- Is your Nest Protect nagging you for new batteries? Mine was.. So I made a quick how-to video about changing the batteries. I've changed the batteries several times so I have a few tips on how best to do it.
It's pretty straightforward, but there are a few 'gotchas' along the way .
The batteries best to use are the Energizer AA Ultimate Lithium Battery - You need 6 of them - (UK - amzn.to/3q9c9TR / USA - amzn.to/39njc4C )
Hopefully, this will help some of you - if you have any questions, please do drop a comment.

i was not ready for that beep when you removed the battery from the nest protect smoke detector and it got me to jump little and waking up little more 😂
The beeping was driving me crazy! Thank you so much for this tutorial!
Happy to help! X
Thank you for this video!!
You saved my life. It’s been beeping all day! I just moved in to my new flat and the estate agent said they’ve replaced all the smoke alarm batteries batteries and 3 months in it’s beeping. Guess they didn’t change the batteries after all and I had no clue how to remove the nest device from the ceiling! Thank goodness for your video
P/s: that energiser lithium battery tip is so helpful! Cuz I replaced it with normal batteries and it didn’t last me a month!
Posts like this make me really happy. Thank you so much. Hope you've given the video a 👍 and perhaps subscribed too.. It all helps RUclips recommend this video to people needing help with the same issue! 😊

Thank you!
Changed mine already just to be safe
Thank you, but my one is different. Is this the older one?
To be specific, to change the battery there is a cover that you need to press on a switch and the cover pops open and you can easily change the battery
@@BukuiZhao Yeah - mine is an older one! I've got a new one to install!
The one with battery door only takes 3 batteries. Right?
How to change sensor
Also, any idea that the micro USB there is used for?
Perhaps software updates or diagnosis - I've certainly never seen much reference to it!
that is battery charger ..if you charge it, the alarm last longer
How long do ghe batteries last with normal use?
Several years
Mine told me when I walked by it in the middle of the night. Scared the crap out of me!
I bet!!
I’ll definitely know this
Excellent
@@kiphakes I am happy

The wired units are similar, but take only 3 batteries.

Do you have to do the test after installing new batteries?
Ps. Good easy to follow video. Thank you
Changed 3 batteries but did not do the test afterwards because late at night! Now nest app says no power !
Yeah, probably a good idea!
