- It's going to be a massive change for SEC fans to get used to. After 33 years, the conference is finally getting rid of the East/West division system. With Texas and Oklahoma joining the SEC, the only way forward is to have all teams compete as one conference. Now the hard part is telling the divisions they've been fired.

As an Aggie, I can assure you we like traditions. The 12th man, the war hymnal, midnight yell, overpaying coaches with 1 good year from the former coaches recruits, going 8-4 (usually). Why would we want to break traditions? Speaking of, we finally get the second best team in the second worse conference again. I'd lose to UGA every year as long as we beat that team from Austin.
Georgia prefers playing Missouri, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, and South Carolina every year.

I know. I'm not sure how I feel about this. There's a reason conferences went to the division format. I'm hoping they revisit this idea in the near future.
There's no reason you couldn't have 4 divisions with another tier of playoffs for the conference title.
@@marcuswestcott The reason for divisions was that it was an antiquated requirement in order to host a championship game. That requirement does not exist anymore from the NCAA. That is the literal reason.

Yeah, but I foresee problems with staying at 8 conference games. I predict some goofy issue, like for who is the #2 team, such as the next two teams have the same w-l, but each lost to a conference opponent that the other beat. And the w-l records (conference and total) of those other teams are the same. Problem.
Now the same can happen with a 9 game schedule, but there is one more game to make it less likely.
@@ownpetard8379 Basketball doesn't have divisions and they still are able to determine seeding in the SEC Tournament. There might be some complicated tiebreaker rules, but they'll figure it out.
@@ownpetard8379 I mean if you think about last year, Tennessee would have made ATL over LSU because Tennessee beat LSU and Bama which gave them the tie breaker over them. It would have made for an interesting rematch.

I discovered SEC shorts last year, since then, I've devoured as many of them as possible. Now, for the first time, I get to watch them as they come out, and I couldn't be more excited! 2023 is off to a great start.

Sometimes they add things to the CC, so Ill watch them twice - once without CC turned on, once with it turned on. Brilliant way to increase view count!

Arkansas @ Vanderbilt (2011)
Texas A&M @ Kentucky (Never)
Before Missouri entered the conference, Arkansas played Vandy fairly regularly and it was never a fun game to watch, especially when it was @Vandy.

If we went back to 12 teams, and let the Big 12 repair itself rather than force it to become the frankenstein that it is now to stay relevant, we wouldnt HAVE this problem. We shoulda never got in the business of looting the Big 12. Whatever that idiom about "pay the piper" thats what Lsu fans and all Sec fans gotta endure for this realignment bs
In all fairness, A&M has only played Kentucky 3 times in their history. I guess now that will likely never change with the addition of 2 more schools.

How about we have to play them just about every year in the conference championship bc that side of the conference is trash. Doesn’t make sense to make them play twice like that. And they’re literally scheduled to play in regular season 2024

SEC Shorts should do a bit with Missouri and Texas A&M welcoming in Oklahoma and Texas to the SEC. Something with them changing the schedule for 2024 in the night so that Texas has to play Georgia and Oklahoma has to play Alabama while Missouri writes Georgia off their schedule and A&M takes off Alabama. Finally, A&M and Missouri are free from their yearly beat downs from their SEC East/West division leaders of the past.

I'm kind of glad college football is changing in some ways as it has been the same format for a long time. However, this season will be bittersweet as it is the last "normal season" for the SEC and college football. I will miss the divisions. It will take some getting used to, but I/we eventually will get used to it.

As a native Texan that doesn't root for either A&M or UT I admit to looking forward to their game because, A. I'll probably be able to hear it over the roughly 60 miles of airspace between College Station and Conroe, and B. the whining from the loser of the first game back will be something to enjoy until the next game is played.

"UT" is Tennessee. The University of Tennessee was a school before Texas was a state.

Thanks you, for this video. I'm sad to see the conferences go. As a Gator fan, I remember the UT and UK games being super winable until recently. I want us to play you guys, I'm willing to get rid of Vandy (and no, it's not because they beat us last year), South Carolina, and Missouri. I'd be glad to get Auburn every year. Chris Doring was talking to Tim Tebow about it and correctly mentioned that Gators fans miss that rivalry. But things do change, I'm just glad we have 12 teams coming up in the playoffs next yar. I can see last year having GA, Bama, UT and maybe LSU in the playoffs.

Hot take, but I’m actually glad the SEC stayed with 8 conference games. I’m a Georgia fan, and Ill happily give up playing Mizzou, Kentucky, SC, and Vandy every year if it means we still get to play Georgia Tech every year.
Absolutely, the SEC east has the SEC ACC Rivalries to maintain. The SEC West on the other hand has no such rivalries, altho it makes sense to let the Big 12 refugees do something with their old compatriots. Where that leaves true SEC West teams like Lsu, Ole Miss, Bama, idk tho. I guess we would have to lead the way doing big neutral site opening week matchups.
Yeah, I agree with Uncle Lou that the SEC should play 9 con games, but if UK does, we can't play Ls Down every year. Though I wish we stopped playing 2-3 cupcake games every year (EKU is not a cupcake team this year).
I wish we still played Clemson every year.
Clemson fan here. Wish we played Georgia every year too. Glad the SEC and ACC are staying at 8 so we can still play SC and get Georgia on the schedule as much as possible too.
