    I find it interesting that the rarity and prices of some DQ games are very different in France. For example, V and VI are opposite. I bought DQ VI a few months ago for about $20, but DQ V is extremely expensive. You can't find a used copy for less than $50, and a new copy is more than $100. The 3DS port of DQ VIII is also very common and cheap in France. You can easily find a new copy for like $15. Same goes for DQ VII.

    • @foolboyv5
      @foolboyv5 4 года назад +10

      I think that's the same throughout Europe, in the UK DQ6 and especially 9 are really really common, but 4 is rare and 5 is extremely rare, it goes for about £50-£60 but just finding a copy is a challenge in itself.

    • @VA77E
      @VA77E 4 года назад

      @@foolboyv5 Yea, DQ6 is very common in Northern Europe. I bought my copy new in store for ~$15, alongside DQ9, DQ8 (PS2) and DQMJ 1 & 2 for around that price as well. The old DS games were so cheap at the end of their lifespans. DQ5 and DQ4 are a different story entirely, the PAL versions sell for a lot - more than the US copies. I personally cheaped out and got the US version of DQ5 for around $20-$25 new when it was common on ebay and other places.

As much as I enjoyed ff12, dragon quest 8 was a great experience through out. 8 was my first dragon quest game and comparing the two is like comparing a well made dinner to frozen pizza.
    Aside from that, my most valuable dragon quest game would be 6 CIB. For personal value I say dragon quest 8 because it got me into the series.

    I finally snagged IV after chasing it for 20 years. That was the first one I played - I had to sell 2 boxed Atari 2600 games, a pile of controllers, 2 boxed NES games, and a whole bunch of other stuff to get it from the local game shop - basically was a $156.00 trade in - well worth it. I could have had it boxed, new, for $11 bucks when I was a young Mario fan - still kicking myself for passing it up at Toy Liquidators when I was 11 back in 92', but I was not into DQ yet.
    With the other three I got lucky. I I bought in 1998 at a K-Mart that sold used/refurbished loose NES games for about $15.00. III was next from a local game store where I lived at the time for $35.00 in 2003, and then after that was II from the same game shop I got IV from for $56.00 about 2 years ago..
    However, I don't buy these for value, I buy them because I want to play them, over and over again.

      Ahem, i propose a solution: an unlocalized dragon quest game pack for all the unlocalized games, all edited so that the less important screen can be access from another menu or is shrunken and put into a corner, all of these ported onto one cartridge and brought over to the US. The only reason i refuse to emulate DS and 3DS games is because they were made for a specific 2 screen system which looks weird on a single screen.

    How about an updated mid-2021 version of this video? :-) Recently I decided I'd like a copy of DQV DS - oof. Absolutely out of control prices. One guy on Amazon wanted $600. I bought a JP copy for $53 in the meantime, until I can find a decent English copy. I'm so disappointed with myself that I didn't buy this during release time, and actually very shocked to find out that I didn't have it. I spent an absolute fortune on DS games during its run, both US and JP games. I honestly thought I had DQ IV and V DS remakes and couldn't believe that I didn't. I do have VI, plus the VII and VIII 3DS remakes, but kicking, kicking, kicking myself that I never picked up IV and V. I had better get my wallet out.... :-(

    So this weekend, I came across a vendor at Tampa Bay Comic-Con 2023 who had the NES carts for Dragon Warrior II, III, and IV. Priced at $65, $120, and $165 respectively. He also had the first one, but I already picked up a CIB copy at another convention for $60. So, naturally I wanted these for my collection as a huge DQ fan, but of course the price tag was a bit iffy. But... he was open to trading and negotiation. Normally I'd just take some of my excess stuff, but this was on the other side of the state, so I had to be a bit creative.
    So now came a bit of negotiation, buying from other vendors and trading. So first, I haggled DW II down to $50. Then I picked up DW IV through haggling the guy down to $140, and then a combo of $85 cash and $55 trade. And finally, I picked up a Wii Metroid Trilogy from another vendor for $70 and did a flat trade for DW III.

    As I am from Germany I can assure you it is way more expensive to collect DQ in Europe.
    For instance it is hard to get the DS remakes of IV, V and VI for under 100 Euros. The PSX version of VII (and the superior one in my book) hasn´t been released in Europe at all so you have to rely on import services. In fact Dragon Quest Monsters for the GBC was the very first DQ to be released in our territories, VIII being the first of the main line.
    I am aware of this series since the 90s but my first contact with Dragon Quest as a Gamer ( as a collector I already owned VIII for the PS2 at this point) was DQXI on PS4 and DQXI S on Switch respectively, which was the last Game I did beat in 2019. And I absolutely fell in love with the series at this point. Hence I imported Dragon Warrior VII from the US, Dragon Quest III for the Super Famicom (will play it with a translation patch on the Retron 5) and Dragon Quest V for the DS also from the US. I plan to get myself a copy of the GBC edition of 1&2 as well as versions of IV, VI and IX for the DS.
