Indeed! The plotline in Heavenly Bride was amazing. It's hard for me to pick a favorite between DQ IV, V and VIII. I love III too, and DQ1 along with Final Fantasy 1 introduced me to the incredible genre of JRPGs as a kid with NES.
Lie Feral The story is definitely forgettable but it's a ton of fun and in the end that's what I play Dragon Quest for. Although when you get a great story like V, it is a nice bonus ;)
ParagonKevin I’m playing 11 now. When I finish I’m gonna go back to 8 and finish it, then play 5. After that I’ll see whether I feel like playing the first 3 on switch, or 4 and 6 on ds.
How time flies. I have fond memories of going to a DQ art gallery in 2011 to celebrate the 25th anniversary. It was amazing, original works on display by Akira Toriyama was especially cool. I should stop by the DQ store in Akihabara and pick up a few things, DQ is one of my favorite series after all.
I was playing a Dragon Quest game for the first time about a month ago. It was Dragon Quest VIII, and 30 minutes in, my TV died. Emerson TV could not handle Dragon Quest VIII.
Dragon Quest IV is my favorite. I remember playing it back in the day, and the separate chapters were just so good on their own, and then they bring it all together in chapter 5. It is actually my #2 game of all time.
Hello! Looking at buying my first Dragon Quest game and came across your video. I'm shocked I never got into this--I mistakenly grew up thinking it was an action rpg series and I was awful at those as a kid, so I never asked for the Dragon Warrior games even though I played Final Fantasy. Looks like I may have a lot of games to keep me busy! :)
Johnny, I am extremely happy you made this video! I am an American living in Japan and seeing the hype for Dragon Quest here has been amazing. Dragon Quest Heroes 2 came out and I bought it and it is extremely, extremely good! Much better than the first! I am a casual fan who was first truly introduced to the series through Fortune Street and this game has its hooks in me! 30 great years and I'm looking forward to 30 more. Thanks again, Johnny!
Yeah funny derp moment for me! I have been soo concentrating on 7 coming out I forgot I had talked about 8 coming out here!

I love how I got my friend into Dragon Quest. It all started with my favorite game, Chrono Trigger. Made him play it, he loved the world, and asked him if he'd like to try Dragon Quest. Low and behold, he had a copy of fucking Dragon Warrior for the NES for YEARS and never played it. So I got him to play that, and now he won't return my Switch because he's addicted to Dragon Quest Builders. ...And buying him IX didn't help, he just plays both back to back.
I have fond memories of playing Dragon Warrior for the first time when I was 10 years old ( 1990). Dragon Warrior 2 is one of the hardest games I’ve ever played on the NES. 8 is my current favorite with 4 a close second. I have 11 pre ordered and can’t wait to delve into it, only 11 more days!
I remember my parents rented a few games at the local video store in Dragon Warrior was one of them that was literally my very first jrpg and I was 8 at the time. I never got a chance to play the other Dragon Quest games till I got a lot older Dragon Quest 8 was definitely the game that really made me a hardcore fan.
Love the series. I remember as a kid getting my free copy of Dragon Warrior in the mail with my subscription to Nintendo Power. This was back when they thought Americans wouldn't understand the complex stories and battle systems. Also I love to see the collection of slim plush dolls.
I remember picking up Dragon Warrior: Monsters on the game boy color when i was a little brat. Played that game to death, and it really brought me into the JRPG genre.
I started out with the NES version of Dragon Quest/Warrior IV, and I LOVED it! Later on I played the SNES remakes of Dragon Quest 1, 2 and 3, I've only finished 1, not 2 or 3, but I plan on getting back to them, then I played 5 and I got pretty close to finishing it but then I kind of didn't know what to do anymore, and well, Dragon Quest IX was one of my first DS games, and it's my No. 1 Favourite DS game of all! I've put the most time into IX than any other DQ game, well over 200 hours, and I LOVED it! I loved all of them, and I'll be sure to buy Dragon Quest VII and VIII on the 3DS when they come out, I'm SOOOO Looking forward to them!
So my story with the DQ series is when I was 8, and first played the NES, I had Dragon Warrior. I didn't know how to play RPG's back then so didn't get far and gave up. My introduction to learning how to play RPG's and realizing I loved them was FFVII (oOoOo, big surprise, right? xD). I didn't start playing this series until like 2 years ago for the first time. I started from the beginning, Dragon Warrior again on NES, this time, I know how to play RPG's! After finishing that, I went to the Super Famicom remake of DQII. It felt like the series didn't have a true identity yet personally for me, until that is I played DQIII. DQIII was great and had more of an identity at that point, it was my favorite so far. Then went to DQIV on DS, that one was amazing as well. I started to become a huge fan of the games now. At that point, I couldn't choose which one was my favorite until I played DQV next on the DS! DQV is the last one I played so far and it's my favorite in the series because it did much more with the story. It was a lot more interesting than the traditional story and had some crazy stuff happening that was very mature themed and a lot of fun! Can't wait to play DQVI next, but I'm too busy engulfing myself in Chrono Cross xD
started with monsters on GBC. My friend told me about how he played Dragon Warrior on the NES and neither of us knew that that was the same thing as Dragon Quest. DQ8 was my first real experience and it knocked my socks off. Never got much further than halfway cuz I played in my friends room but I've recently got hyped for 11 started playing 1 on the iOS and just looking forward to collecting and beating the whole series! thanks for the videos Johnny, you're the best!
You have so many DQ vids! I'm going to try and see them all. I swear I was the only kid in my town, maybe the whole state, with all 4 dragon warrior games at release time. Awesome video
I love the dragon quest monsters spin off games because that is how I was intoduced to the series, but I also love 7, and 8 because I have so many memories of playing them with my grandpa and he was the one who got me in to playing video games. I've been playing video games for 21 years now all thanks to my grandfather.
i seriously can't wait for 11 i started with DQ9 on the DS when i was 9 or 10 years old after my dad went out and bought it for me on release day, and i can remember him getting really excited to see me enjoying it, because he was so eager to share his dragon quest collection with me. we played through the whole game on co-op, and, honestly, it was one of the best gaming experiences i've had so far. by now, i have played every dragon warrior/quest game, and my dad and i are so excited to get DQ10 on both 3DS and PS4, although i can imagine there'll be lots of fighting over who gets the TV. i think i'd definitely recommend 9 as the best starting point, as i feel that the co-op aspect is what really helped me get into the series , as well as the wealth of content and the fantastic alchemy system (i spent days upon days with the alchemy system when i was younger).
My introduction to the series were Dragon Quest Rocket Slime and Monster Jokers 1 for the DS; not the best place to start but both games were being sold at a blockbuster clearance sale for dirt cheap prices. I recently acquired Dragon Warrior 1 for the nes and you are so right; there's something so enthralling about old rpgs.
When I was a kid in the early 90s, I used to watch my dad and older brother play Dragon Warrior 1 on NES. My dad would give me the map and tell me to help him find places to go. After he beat the game, my mom went out trying to find Dragon Warrior II for him to play. She couldn't find it however but found Dragon Warrior IV and bought that instead. My dad played it for a bit but he lost interest and my older brother took up the challenge of playing it. He was five years older than me so I would watch him play it and help him. He got to the point where you get the hot air balloon but couldn't figure out what to do next, so he never beat it. Years later when I was old enough to play it, I tried several times to beat it but never did. Finally, when I was in high school and my brother came back home for college break, we got the rom and emulator and played it like the old days, where he would play and I would watch and help. He finally beat the game we had spent 10+ years trying to beat. It was a great memory. Dragon Warrior IV holds a special place in my heart.
I started from the beginning. A little over a year ago, I found the first game on NES at s swap meet for $7. I decided to try it out and thoroughly enjoyed it. Then I went online and bought all the other main games, 2 and 3 on NES, 4-6 and 9 on DS, and 7 and 8 on 3DS, and have been playing through them all in order. I just finished 8 and am about to start 9. I have enjoyed every single one I've played so far.
my first dragon quest game was 3! I remember when 8 first came out and I was SO excited for it other than that as a kid the only other dragon quest games I played were the monsters spin offs. I have rediscovered my love of the series recently and am trying to play through them all in order now. I beat the first game last night! Really excited to play all the others c:
Dragon Quest 8 is my favorite in the series. I also think the Dragon Quest Monsters series is also a great place to start, especially of you are into Pomemon style monster collecting.
The Dragon Warrior 1 and 2 on Gameboy is alot better than the nes ones since it cuts all the fat that was in the nes versions and fixes alot of the problems the nes versions had
the iOS/Andriod version is even better. it is the super famicom port on a mobile phone. the graphics are super Nintendo quality and less grinding, however you still need to grind to complete the game. what would really be great if Nintendo make DQ 1 - 2 - 3 on the WiiU , japan got an exclusive on the Wii. better yet I like to see DQ 1 - 2 - 3 released on a multicart., for now its only a dream.
@Bblurre Well the GB version easily cuts the grind time down by at least half. They literally double the amount of gold and Exp. that you get from each enemy. The mobile ports follow that same trend doubling both the gold and Exp. that the original game gave you. I'd recommend that mobile ports just for ease of finding them and honestly, the graphics are a nice plus.
@Bblurre That's cool. I have the mobiles too and also have 7,8, and 9 on the 3DS. and of course 11 on the PS 4. One of my favorite series of all times.
I always feel the reason 8 (and soon the 7 remake on 3DS) and subsequently 9 and 11 are slightly better is simply due to being able to see your characters in combat. For diehard DQ fans its not such a big deal but 8 really is the perfect place to start if your new. Most new DQ players find the lack of character visuals in battle to be dull, and it's not until your in love with the charm of the series that you appreciate the broader gameplay and experience that you no longer really notice that as much. For me though I'm excited to play the remake of 7 for this reason specifically. As a FF fan I just grew up used to seeing the combat animations, and it made the earlier games hard to take initially. But now I love all of them because I appreciated the series as whole so much more. Nice Video! Thanks!
Absolutely adore this series, my favorite video game series. My favorite game and favorite game of all time is Dragon Quest VIII, that game blew me away and got me into RPG and gaming in general. Here for more 100 years :D
i love your videos. your stories are awesome brings back alot of my childhood memories. i m 34 I m still a gamer til this day. i love your channel .keep up the great work.
I first played Dragon Warrior 26 years ago on the NES, and it was the game that turned me into the RPG fanatic I am today. Love the Dragon Quest series. I think that VIII is the best game in the series, and the best starting point for newcomers. Very excited for XI!
DQ 1&2 for SNES is the best introduction, since they're easy to pick up and play. Those are also the shortest in the main series and don't complicate things too much for newbies. DQ3 and DQ8 are the best this series has reached personally.
8 Was the best for me. Had 7 but the puzzles went on and on. lot of people complain in 8 about how long it took to level up, but that's the point, you see and do new stuff while exploring and doing side quests.
DQ8 was epic. Not just one of the best rpg's for the ps2, but one of the greats of all time. I agree w/HappyConsoleGamer. If you're new to Dragon Quest start off w/ DQ8. Your entry into the DQ franchise will begin w/ a bang, and make you want to play the older, dated games.
I remember going into a Gamestop back when they still sold retro games and looked through the NES bin. The cart art design struck me and not knowing anything about it picked it up. I was entraced by it. I couldn't find 2 but 3 was released on the Gameboy color and loved it. Couldn't put it down. No SNES Meant no 4. 5 and 6 never came here and 7 and 8 were on Playstation and I was a Nintendo kid. I was so happy when I heard 9 was going to be on the DS (probably one of the few) and was sucked back in. Now I'm in the middle of playing through all the remakes and am happy I can play all the main games on Nintendo hardware. (I plan on getting XI for the 3ds when it comes here despite me having a PS4. Even though my experience is limited playing DQ games, the ones I have played I thoroughly enjoyed.
One of my long time favorite RPG series. Especially 8. I've remembered it since 6 on emulator, because we didn't have translated back then and I loved it from the first look. Now I'm waiting for the 7 and 8 rereleases on 3ds.
Also, I'd recommend IV as a great starting point and Dragon Quest Heroes, too, because it introduces the different types of spells and monsters and what not. Here's to 30 years Dragon Quest!
I think it's important to note too that in the re-release of Dragon Quest 1&2, the games were less grindy. It didn't take nearly as long to grind for the xp or gold that you needed. You just got everything faster. So it depends if you want the classic experience or something more modernized on which version you want to play there. As far as I can remember, the games are the same otherwise.
Dragon Warrior Monsters :P Loved that game when I was younger. Dragon Quest/Dragon Warrior wasn't really a thing over here from what I know of at least until Dragon Quest VIII which was... 2008... so all of my stuff has been imported. I keep a mini collection of games installed on a Raspberry Pi with an 8BitDo bluetooth controller at the ready to play the classics of years gone by. Its nice to dig through libraries that I didn't have access to back in the day.
I just started playing an import copy of the 3DS version of Dragon Quest VII - it's my first Dragon Quest - and oh man, I'm already hooked. I'm about 15-16 hours into it so far and knowing that I've got another 100+ hours ahead of me is an amazing feeling! The soundtrack is to die for, too.
DQ8 was my first one and I enjoyed it immediately, the music is beautiful and the art style and character designs endeared the game to me so well. Can't wait for the 7 remake on the 3DS (so glad they were able to wise up and decide to localize it) and of course 11.
my first Dragon Quest game was Dragon Quest 8, and I only got it to get my hands on the Final Fantsy XIII demo, but I beat it, and loved it. I recently played Dragon Quest 1 on my phone. I beat it, and I'm glad I did. i'm now oficially a dragon quest fanboy and wanna play through them all.
I’ve just started my dragon quest adventure. I’m really into game boy and super famicom so played through 1 on my game boy (loved it) and currently doing my play-through of 2 on the super famicom. I’m hooked and bought 3, 5 and 6 too
I have fond memories of playing Dragon Warrior with my father as a kid, battery save still holding on! I really enjoy playing RPGs on handhelds so I've decided to go for a complete handheld DQ collection. The only games I'm missing have yet to be released. However, in the States you can preorder both VII and VIII for the 3DS.
I have only played Dragon Quest Heroes, but I really loved it, despite not being into Dynasty Warriors at all. DQH had amazing graphics and it was fun. Watching this video has wet my appetite to get into this series. I remember a friend playing Dragon Quest 8 back in the day, but I wasn't really into JRPGs then. Anyway cool video Johnny.
My very first DQ game was Rocket Slime on the DS. The gameplay is nothing like the main series but it has a cute style and is very approachable for beginners.
Started with Dragon Warrior 1 on NES, and worked my way up for the most part. Love them all, aside from DW2. Still have to get around to playing 7 and 9 though... Oh, and I even played some of the remade versions of DW1 on GameBoy Color and Super Famicom.
I just recently became a Dragon Quest fan. I wasn't familiar with Dragon Warrior back in the day as I was strictly a Final Fantasy fan (which clearly used DW to begin their games). I have played a few of the games on the Nintendo DS system and I really enjoyed them. I believe there are 3 or 4 for that particular system so I may track them all down. I am now looking forward to VII and VIII coming to the 3DS this year. It's a fun franchise.
Dragon quest was my introduction into RPGs. I got it for free with my nintendo power sub. And fell In love. But 4, 4 is probably my fav nes game. Deff top 3. The way they structured that one made it a lot of fun and really made you connect with the group in a way that hadn't been done yet. I'll never forget seeing a little article in nintendo power that said 5 was coming soon for the snes , and they showed like one or 2 pics and I was so so excited, and then it never came out here :( . One of the things this series does is the awesome side games like "torneko the last hope" or other dragon quest heroes. Not new concepts gameplay wise, but they improve on them or change em a bit, and they always come out fun. Honostly can't think of one I wouldn't play.
I love 1-4 as they were games that got me hooked on RPG's, why people who have never played any don't just want to start at the beginning and work your way in order through them all is beyond me. DWII is my favorite since it blew me away compared to the original game, I got it for Christmas 1990 and played the hell out of it. III and IV are great too.
My first DQ was the remake of DQ1 for Snes. I played a translated version of the game on an emulator and it was magical! Since the game had both DQ1 and 2 I played them both in sequence. I hold them dearly to this day, specially since I didn't get any other DQ game until DQ8. I'm very happy that we have them all available for Android devices so I could finally buy them officialy. I highly recommend those ports for anyone who has a good tablet or a good phone, they're gorgeous and play very well! Just stay away from the DQ8 port. For this one I say it's mandatory to play on a PS2!
Dragon Warrior 1-3 on Gameboy Color was how I got started back in the day. Glad I was introduced to them on the Gameboy Color too, cause they simplified some of the menu mechanics after the NES version. (The concept of Context-Sensitive buttons was still new when the original came out.) So they were MUCH more fun for my on Gameboy Color. Otherwise they're pretty faithful to the originals. In my opinion having played most of the games quite a bit (haven't finished many, though.), I think any of them are fine starts to jump into. I can't think of any reasons for any of them as to why they wouldn't be a good introduction, especially when Dragon Quest is one of the most traditional franchises out there when it comes to keeping their games faithful to their original design. They all pretty much play and feel the same, with some minor differences in mechanics. The stories vary quite a bit of course, but I don't personally think any are better than the others. People like whichever one appeals to their tastes more. The only games I wouldn't personally suggest to start with are 9 and 10. I didn't like 9 as much as the others as I think it felt the most different, especially with it's focus on creating your own characters and trying to fit multiplayer mechanics in. 10 is of course the MMO, and I don't think MMOs really count as a good start for a franchise, unless of course you are a big fan of MMOs. Otherwise I don't like that Square Enix numbers their MMOs and think they should be seperated and considered spin-offs. The Dragon Quest Heroes games are a very Your Mileage May Vary titles, just like the Warriors Franchise. A lot of people loathe Warriors games, even Hyrule Warriors or Fire Emblem Warriors, but others can tolerate the more repetitive nature or otherwise love them. I think the Dragon Quest Heroes games are better for people who already appreciate the franchise and want to play a game that celebrates the many games and their characters. Otherwise, maybe you're not big into RPGs but really like Action Games, then maybe it's worth trying for those people.
I originally had Dragon Warrior I as a kid, and played and beat it a few times, then later on I jumped to VII with the Playstation, didn't finish it... then got DQ8 for PS2, played a lot through.... didn't finish it. Then went back to DQII on mobile phone and beat it. Now I'm going back to VII with the 3DS and possible DQ3 on mobile. The point is you don't need to play them in order, each game has its own story and characters.
I agree with you on having folks new to the Dragon Quest series start with Dragon Quest 8 on the PS2. It's also an option if you have a backwards-compatible PS3. Folks who like the more retro feel, start with Dragon Quest 3 or 4. Dragon Quest 1 is a bit archaic, and I wouldn't recommend starting there, but you certainly could. Dragon Quest 2 is not balanced as well as 3 and later, which leads to a sharp difficulty spike, in my opinion. Dragon Quest had a huge advertising campaign way back in the day when Enix teamed up with Nintendo Power to push Dragon Warrior here in the US. They were giving it away with a new subscription to Nintendo Power. I suppose the series did not sell as well as was hoped by Enix, as I didn't hear any advertising for any future DQ games. I personally only discovered they released new DQ games when I went to the rental store and saw Dragon Warrior II and went "when did this happen?" Maybe an advertising push would get DQ better sales in the west? I'm very excited about DQ 11 coming on the next Nintendo console. It's actually a system seller for me. Anyways, I've rambled on enough. Cheers!
They just announced that they are bringing Dragon Quest Builders to the West, and I'm super pumped about that. They also have confirmed that 7 and 8 are coming to the 3DS this year, we just don't know when yet. I can't wait, this is more dragon quest than we've ever got in so short a time, and I'm pumped.
I just finished playing the first two Dragon Quest titles on my phone (literally just finished 2) and I loved them. Waiting for 7 and 8 to come out over here on the 3DS. Time to look for other titles to play in between
I've been replaying the first six games in preparation for the release of VII and VIII on the 3DS, neither of which I ever got around to playing. I think what really strikes me about the series is how unpretentious it is. Simple stories, graphics, and gameplay mechanics, along with memorable music and really charming characters (especially from IV onwards). I do think that IV on the DS is the best jumping in point, though playing from the beginning allows you to truly appreciate how the series evolved with each title. They're the kind of games that remind me why I got into gaming in the first place. :)
I think that IV is a good place to start. It has a great cast, some awesome music, and it's just a really fun time all around. There's also three versions of the game (NES, PS1, and DS) so you have options depending on what era of console you prefer to play on (although the PS1 version doesn't have an English translation).
Dragon Quest V, VII, VIII are three of my favorites. I still need to play IX and I'll be getting the 3DS versions of VII and XI (getting that also on PS4).
Long time Dragon Quest fan over here myself, not as long as HCG but I did start my adventure back during the PS1 era.. I have to say Dragon Quest 7 is a wonderful experience and a great starting point for anyone looking to get into the series. The handheld games are great too, I've yet to dive too deep into 9 but all the videos I've seen on it make the game look fantastic. I also suggest Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 1 & 2 for the DS if you're looking to expand into the series..Haters are going to hate but I messed around with them through roms on a R4 cart..Never got around to finishing them or again, getting too deep into either due to R4 cart bricking but it's another good series from what I experienced. Every time I see physical copies I get the urge to buy them but for some reason always end up passing due to limited funds sadly. With that being said I'm curious on HCG's opinion on DQMJ..I don't remember hearing him talk about the series.. Correct me if I'm wrong lol.. If he did it must of been too little to remember.
From the future: DQXI on PS4 is so darn addictive
Would love love love to see Square release Dragon Quest 1-4 in a Legacy Collection like what we got with Mega Man.
Hell yeah, I could play them then! I'm not a handheld fan so to have them on a console in a colllection like that would be a dream come true.
@@eminemfan50098 didn't 1-3 get released as a collection?
@@Jazzadrin They’re fine, but the GameBoy Color versions are still better.
If they are going to, here's how it should be:
Dragon Quest I - III: GBC era
Dragon Quest IV - VI: DS version
For the first one.
1-3 hd2d coming soon
got my cup of coffee, and ready to watch my favorite youtube channel.
Just got my bowl of cereal and to watch it as well :3
got myself a lil bit of applie pie mates :)
just got my enima set up.. ready to watch now
My favourite is Dragon Quest V but for anyone new to the series, I would recommend VIII and IX.
Indeed! The plotline in Heavenly Bride was amazing. It's hard for me to pick a favorite between DQ IV, V and VIII. I love III too, and DQ1 along with Final Fantasy 1 introduced me to the incredible genre of JRPGs as a kid with NES.
I really disliked IX as my expectations were higher after playing VIII.
The story was absolutely forgettable imo.
Lie Feral The story is definitely forgettable but it's a ton of fun and in the end that's what I play Dragon Quest for. Although when you get a great story like V, it is a nice bonus ;)
Then 5 for story :)
ParagonKevin I’m playing 11 now. When I finish I’m gonna go back to 8 and finish it, then play 5. After that I’ll see whether I feel like playing the first 3 on switch, or 4 and 6 on ds.

Hello! Looking at buying my first Dragon Quest game and came across your video. I'm shocked I never got into this--I mistakenly grew up thinking it was an action rpg series and I was awful at those as a kid, so I never asked for the Dragon Warrior games even though I played Final Fantasy. Johnny, I am extremely happy you made this video! I am an American living in Japan and seeing the hype for Dragon Quest here has been amazing.

30 great years and I'm looking forward to 30 more.
Thanks again, Johnny!
Loved it dude, have played dq1 and playing dq2 currently. Loved your attitude keep it up you are great at this.
The 3DS version of 8 is coming out later this year actually.
I'm getting that day one. I played the shit out of the original so having it on the DS will be awesome.
I wish we would get DQ7 instead. DQ8 is great and all, but I really want that remake. Also don't forget the 140+ hours of just story content.
+Robbert van Loon it's coming out either by the end of the year or early next year
+Robbert van Loon We are getting DQVII on 3DS. I think the tentative release is late summer, with DQVIII coming late fall/winter.
I have 11 pre ordered and can’t wait to delve into it, only 11 more days!

ladynikkie 8 is hard to beat for sure, something tells me 11 will top it.
Dragon Quest XI is one of the best games I've ever played. Up there with Bloodborne and Ocarina of Time for me.
Love the series. I remember as a kid getting my free copy of Dragon Warrior in the mail with my subscription to Nintendo Power. This was back when they thought Americans wouldn't understand the complex stories and battle systems. Also I love to see the collection of slim plush dolls.
I played 5 like a year ago.I had a great deal of fun with it. You were a great inspiration. I have you to thank for it.
Dragon Quest 8 was my first DQ game, followed by Dragon Quest 9 Sentinels of the Starry Skies.
I remember picking up Dragon Warrior: Monsters on the game boy color when i was a little brat. Played that game to death, and it really brought me into the JRPG genre.
I started with DQ 8 but 5 will always be my favorite. It got me back into gaming more. One of my favorite games of all time.
I've been playing video games for 21 years now all thanks to my grandfather.
i seriously can't wait for 11
i started with DQ9 on the DS when i was 9 or 10 years old after my dad went out and bought it for me on release day, and i can remember him getting really excited to see me enjoying it, because he was so eager to share his dragon quest collection with me. we played through the whole game on co-op, and, honestly, it was one of the best gaming experiences i've had so far.
by now, i have played every dragon warrior/quest game, and my dad and i are so excited to get DQ10 on both 3DS and PS4, although i can imagine there'll be lots of fighting over who gets the TV.
i think i'd definitely recommend 9 as the best starting point, as i feel that the co-op aspect is what really helped me get into the series , as well as the wealth of content and the fantastic alchemy system (i spent days upon days with the alchemy system when i was younger).
Dragon Quest is my absolute number one favorite series of all time.
Will from the future here,
Dragon Quest 11 on the Switch is
INSANELY GOOD
my favorite series of all time. i love the snes remakes of 1 2 and 3
When I was a kid in the early 90s, I used to watch my dad and older brother play Dragon Warrior 1 on NES.
Dragon Warrior was the first RPG I ever played in the late 80s. I was 4 years old.
I'm looking forward to Dragon Quest builders
I started from the beginning. A little over a year ago, I found the first game on NES at s swap meet for $7. I decided to try it out and thoroughly enjoyed it. Then I went online and bought all the other main games, 2 and 3 on NES, 4-6 and 9 on DS, and 7 and 8 on 3DS, and have been playing through them all in order. I just finished 8 and am about to start 9. I have enjoyed every single one I've played so far.
DQ 1-3 (Erdrick trilogy) have the most nostalgia for me. 8&9 are great too. And 11 really brought the series back to the originals.
my first dragon quest game was 3!
“A lot”. “Alot” is NOT a word. “Allot” is a word but means something else.
Dragon Quest is so amazing, can't wait to play 11 on the Switch in a few years, it will be incredible.
the time is coming friend :)
Finished it yesterday :) Hope the two of you had a blast as I did. Amazing game and I am going for V, VII and VIII (DS, PSX and PS2 versions) next.
i love your videos. your stories are awesome brings back alot of my childhood memories. i m 34 I m still a gamer til this day. i love your channel .keep up the great work.
We are getting Dragon Quest 8 you can already pre-order it on Amazon.com. It was also announced the same day the announced DQ7.
I first played Dragon Warrior 26 years ago on the NES, and it was the game that turned me into the RPG fanatic I am today. Love the Dragon Quest series. I think that VIII is the best game in the series, and the best starting point for newcomers. Very excited for XI!
I love eight so much! This was the one that got me in the series. I have spent so many hours on it.
4 and 8 are great places to start! Thanks man, your love to dragon quest and video games: Rock n' Roll!
Dragon Warrior was my first rpg when I was a kid and I'm still a huge fan till this day :)
One of my long time favorite RPG series. Especially 8. I've remembered it since 6 on emulator, because we didn't have translated back then and I loved it from the first look. Now I'm waiting for the 7 and 8 rereleases on 3ds.
you got me into the series from your dragonquest series review videos. i started with the nes dragon warrior. intensely grindy from start to finish
The soundtrack is to die for, too.
yep, Koichi-San rerecorded the entire score for the 3DS rerelease.
One and seven were my favorites. Three was great too. I remember seven being massive; like, 80 hours or so.
i recently finished iii and am about to finish v. This is the good shit
I started at Sentinels of the Starry Skies, loved it.
Also, is there anymore Time Warp SNES games?
I love Dragon Quest!! Johnny I agree 8 was awesome!! One of my favorite RPGs!!! Thanks to you for showing DQ the love!!!
5:27 He got DQ I&II from where? Time Warp games? Can't see to find them on google...
They are not in business anymore sadly!
Available on 3ds vc
You know the series is phenomenal when nobody can agree on which one is the best.
Dragon Quest 8 on 3DS has been confirmed for the West.
I was one of those few people that actually enjoyed Dragon Quest Swords on the Wii haha!
My very first DQ game was Rocket Slime on the DS. The gameplay is nothing like the main series but it has a cute style and is very approachable for beginners.
Did you hear about the Dragonlord's Castle quest on Dragon Quest X? It looks GORGEOUS in 3D!
Started with Dragon Warrior 1 on NES, and worked my way up for the most part. Love them all, aside from DW2. Still have to get around to playing 7 and 9 though...
Oh, and I even played some of the remade versions of DW1 on GameBoy Color and Super Famicom.
Dragon Quest 9 and Dragon Quest Rocket Slime and Dragon Quest monster Joker are my all time favorite games
Nowadays, the best is to start from XI, then VIII, then 4-7.
I think Dragon Quest 8 is indeed coming to the 3ds. Also DQ Builders
It's a fun franchise.
love the dragon quest series. can't wait to hear more about dragon quest heroes 2!
only for japan for now........however you can watch the release videos at Square Enix japan.
Honostly can't think of one I wouldn't play.
i agree start on 4 its fun to see the games get better looking over and over again
Dragon Quest V was my first DQ game. You can find it on the DS relatively cheap still. Highly recommended as a starting point!
I love all the games if your going to jump in , jump in , Dragon Warrior on the NES
1&2 (packaged together) and 3 on Gameboy Color, and 4, 5 and 6 on DS. You're welcome.
pretty happy they are bringing builders over here too.
Dragon Quest Monsters on DS is really good too.
SE needs to localize DQ monsters Terry's Wonderland 3D and IRA + Lucca's adventure for the 3DS !!!!!!
One of my favorite series, I need to start playing the DS versions.
Cheers!
Wonderful video, thanks for sharing. Hopeful will atract more people and serve as a intro to the series.
Started with 1 and 2 just this week - no regrets
They just announced that they are bringing Dragon Quest Builders to the West, and I'm super pumped about that. They also have confirmed that 7 and 8 are coming to the 3DS this year, we just don't know when yet. I can't wait, this is more dragon quest than we've ever got in so short a time, and I'm pumped.
I just finished playing the first two Dragon Quest titles on my phone (literally just finished 2) and I loved them. Waiting for 7 and 8 to come out over here on the 3DS. Time to look for other titles to play in between
¡I can't wait for Dragon Quest XI, I need it! :3
New to these series. Into it all the way now. ❤️
