You guys are an awesome duo. A couple who presses A and B together, goes from A to Z together.
GBC versions is what she should play! Maps are a bit more compact and leveling up and progress is a bit faster and IMO it's for the best. Plus the graphics are super cute. And it can be played on a GBA with a nice screen
They are the versions I played, many, many years ago now. The Switch versions look horrible
The battle music is better on the gbc and I heard they toned down the endgame in 2 so it's not so freakishly hard and unfair
Played the GBC version of 3. Loved it. Never played the 1+2 version. I have it for my collection though.

Agreed, they should Fire that version up on a Gamecube Gameboy Player with either Component Cables or HDMI out and sit back with a Wavebird and enjoy.

When I played this game for the first time, I immediately got it. I was eight years old and hooked on RPG's.
I replayed dq 1 and 2 for the first time since the 80’s on my phone. I was blown away by how perfect that experience is. It’s a perfect one handed game to play on the go.

ive gotten my wife into pokemon and animal crossing, but not much else. i even put together a fightstick for her, but shes not into it. my point is: as long as shes not playing mobile games then its fine.

I would seriously recommend to wait for the DQ3 Remake. You’ve waited this long to finally play it so might as well wait a little longer and get the Remake. I also don’t think you’ll have to wait “years”, I dunno where that came from but that’s a 2022 game at the very latest.

I got the fortune to go to Dragon Quest island here in Japan a couple of weeks ago and had an absolute blast there. It definitely got me in the Dragon Quest sort of mood, and I made sure to buy a lot of souvenirs while I was there. If you're a fan of the series and ever find yourself in Japan it's worth taking the trip there.

This is so cool! I’m currently doing the same thing but with Final Fantasy, only have the last dungeon of II and then parts of XI left. We have a baby on the way and the goal is to have beaten I - XV before she is born 😃

I remember playing Dragon Quest on the NES when I was really little I really couldn't get into it back then but when Dragon Quest 8 arrived for the ps2 I fell in love with the series all over again! I remember saving money to buy that as an early birthday gift for myself I have so many good memories. I bought the switch version of the Dragon Quest realty a while back because I never played two or three at all
I love DW 2. I know it's lower on most people's favorite list and the story isn't all that great, but there's something about it that I can play over and over again.
Personally I'm a big fan of the GBC remakes myself.
Dragon Warrior the first game I stayed up all night to beat a long long long time ago.
Wow, an alternate angle of the game room for a second there.
The font on the Switch remakes is burning my retinas.
I've played the original Ultima and Wizardry games and was sorta baffled at how very simple the first Dragon Quest was because it was inspired by both those games. Ultima had a ton of stuff to do and Wizardry was a different beast of difficulty and depth. I still love Dragon Quest though.

Favorite JRPG series of all time.
I’m currently playing DQ VIII on the 3DS. Love the DQ series. The physical DS and 3DS have went up so high now. The DQ XI remake on the PS4 was so good. I can’t wait till they release some more remakes of previous games.
Damn, I'm glad I picked up VII while they were in stores; they are stupid expensive now.
@@bluebomber301 Definitely. I have all the DS and 3DS versions of DQ and I’m so glad I was able to get them for retail.
If you have a PS2, try out DQ VIII on that platform. It has a orchestrated music soundtrack. There are also other differences like random battle encounters instead of seeing the enemies wander the field like the 3ds version.

Play the updated translations of the snes version of dq 1 & 2. It just got a lot bug fixes earlier this year. Maybe play lunar 1 & 2 next on psx? Another great rpg series.
You think the updated graphics and sound work well with the Super Famicom remasters of 1 & 2 instead of playing the Famicom originals? Sometimes too polished graphics and sound don't work too well with a game that clearly feels a generation behind, eg the Super Mario AllStars versions of Super Mario Bros 1 and Lost Levels where the games felt clearly old school and the modern (at the time) graphics and sound felt out of place with the simplistic (but still awesome) gameplay. But I love the look of SNES 2D RPGs.
Great to see some DQ love!!! Such a chivalrous feeling when you get someone to check out an older RPG -- whether it be DQ I-III, Final Fantasy IV, V, and VI, Chrono Trigger, Lunar 1-2, Suikoden I-II, Phantasy Star I-IV, Breath of Fire I-II, Secret of Mana, Trials of Mana (aka Seiken Densetsu 3), Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia, Terranigma, Earthbound (aka Mother), Beyond Oasis, etc. etc. etc. -- and the person straight up deep dives into the entire series and loves every minute of it! You feel like you passed on the torch of ancient forgotten secrets which must never be buried beneath the sands of time.
IMHO, Dragon Warrior I & II on the Gameboy Color, plus DW III, are the definitive versions of these games. Track down the original carts, or score a low cost repro cart, play it on a Gameboy Color, GB Advance, GBA SP, Gameboy Advance Player, or Retron 5, and you will absolutely not regret it.

I hadn't played a Dragon Quest game since Dragon Warrior 1 on the NES. I played Dragon Quest XI and absolutely loved it. Can't wait for XII. I'd love some remasters of the 3D games or better ports on IOS and Android.

For me the switch trilogy is great, having never played the originals and now I own them all physically.
Those Timewalk DQ SNES releases were so perfect, I don't think I can ever part with them, and SNES DQ3 is just tops.

Back in the days there was a special offer that you would get a Dragon Warrior 1 NES cartridge for getting a 1 year subscription to nintendo power. Easiest sale ever! So easy to convince parents as a 10 year old to get this deal (a single game was worth twice the value of the subcription)...

The world of Dragon Warrior 1 is so lonely. You're just one young man in this expansive land. Every step you take could be your last. Every town you visit is filled with kind folk that beg and pray for your victory against an unimaginable evil. I think the music perfectly captures these emotions. There's so much tension in each choice you make. Whether your opponent is a red slime or a Wolflord... Your shoulders alone bear the weight of everyone's hopes and dreams. The suffering that came before and will last until you defeat the indomitable Dragon Lord. He is cunning, powerful and wicked to the core. You are the lone force that can end the suffering.
I of course view this all with rose-tinted glasses. I don't think I can deny that. I am in my mid-twenties but I grew up on Dragon Warrior one and two. What I am trying to say with all this is... The battle music in the first Dragon Warrior is the best in the entire series.
