- For too many distracted shoppers, a trip to the grocery store ends with a stolen purse or wallet. But there are some common sense ways to protect your stuff. A New Jersey shopper examined a package of chicken recently in a grocery store, as a female thief swooped in and snatched her purse in a split second. Security consultant Bill Stanton showed Inside Edition how to make sure you don't become a victim. “It is so quick, people don't know it's happening,” he said. #InsideEdition
I had an older lady come up to me at the supermarket and say “honey, do me a favor and put the child’s seatbelt through the straps on your purse and lock it. It makes it a little harder for someone to take it” Best advice I ever got from a stranger in a supermarket
Good advice. Also if you wear jeans put the cards and cash with a hair rubber band around them. They can't steal your pocket and it is harder to pick. A fanny pack is good too.

My brother was shopping at Walmart recently and was on a busy aisle and a woman just walked over calmly and grabbed another woman's purse out of her cart. Luckily, her husband saw it and grabbed it back out of her hands. I'm very careful now when out in stores with my purse.

My Mom was the “purse police”. She kept her eye out for others & pointed out that they left their purse unattended & how easily it may not be there next time. My Mom recently passed & I’m picking up her slack.
If, for some odd reason, you can’t hold your purse, at least use the provided child safety belt & hooked it thru your purse handles. This way, it’s more likely a thief with get their arm jerked outta the socket as they attempt a fast getaway. And watch for the “too nice”. Be kind but, DON’T feel ashamed to hold onto your property.

I'm sorry for your loss! I just lost my dad and he raised me the same way. Treat others how you would want to be treated. He was such a good man. I was at Target just before Christmas this past year. A woman stopped me and said that she felt the need to pray for me. So I close my eyes and an effort to not be rude. When I went to pay for my things, my wallet was no longer in my purse. On the video they saw a man grab my wallet out of my purse and then it shows the man and woman meeting up in the parking lot together, with my wallet. It was days before Christmas, it was terrible.
That's horrible, I'm so sorry that happened at all. I work hard to save money for Christmas gifts and do cash stuffing. I'd be devastated if someone stole it under the guise of praying!!!
I tell my Mom, "if you don't need it leave it," at home or locked in the car. So many women take way too much in a big purse that is not necessary. A small side bag is best. The loss is too great at times to replace. Smh :(

I turned my back for a few seconds and had my wallet stolen from INSIDE my purse, went to pay and it was gone!! Security checked the cameras and we saw how the whole thing went down, I was shocked to see it was an older woman (probably in her 50’s) that stole my wallet!! Needless to say, I now use a backpack purse with a tie closure. TIP: you can also use the child restraint belt in the shopping cart to loop thru your purse straps and buckle your purse down, so if someone tries to snatch the purse , they can’t get away with it!!

Me too and someone drove up to me at Wal-Mart in the lot and snatched all my stuff. It was older guys too. I later found my purse due to my phone having a tracker on it. They were unable to use my phone anymore though. Unfortunately I don't think they got caught but I hope they meet karma. Thieves should be ashamed ! Get a job and stop taking other people hard earned belongings. What goes around comes around.

I would tell my best friend. Someone can take your purse one day so we went shopping and when i went to see were she was she had left her purse in the cart so i got it and was. See how long it was going to take you to realize that it was missing she did not see me but i was looking at her it took 10mins when i saw her face and i told her see how easy it was.to take it. And it took you 10mins realize it was gone Put the seatbelt on she said for now on iam i learned my lesson i going to.

I can't imagine having all my personal stuff stolen. Besides the cash, the hassle of getting a new ID, cancelling and renewing credit cards, possibly your social security card as well. And all other little sentimental thing people keep in their wallet or purse. Man that would be a nightmare....

Lmao, I sometimes go shopping with my mom and she always gets me to 'shield' (hold) her purse everytime she turns her back. In my own case, I hold the purse tightly (if it has a strap I put it in my arm and hold the purse tightly lol) and put the things I wanna buy in the shopping cart.

My nanny taught me to put the seat belt for babies and loop your purse holes through it so if they try to snatch it you’ll hear them struggling to get it off the seat belt. 👌

The thief would be dumb to try take a purse that is "secured" to the cart.
Keep a record of your credit card numbers, expiration dates, code, NBR for customer service, same with drivers license in case your purse is stolen. This way you'll have all the information you need to put a stop on your cards. I always put my car key in my bra, so if they take my purse, I still have a ride home:)
Just happened to a lady at COSTCO in San Juan Capistrano. Luckily, she knew something was up and started raising a stink. Other shoppers noticed. And the thief directed her to a display case where her purse was….saying that she dropped it. The rest of the gang were gone and out the store.

Yes, I see so many women that don't zip up their purses. It's so easy even if it's on your shoulder, for an experienced thief to slip your wallet out without you knowing. When I walk down the street, I also carry my purse on the opposite side of someone approaching.

Almost happened to me. I had my wallet ON my nieces car seat with her IN it and I had noticed a women and her daughter not shopping or have anything on them and had been 'following' from a distance, I realized she was trying to go for my wallet when I heard her daughter say "no mama, you're gonna goto jail" and at that point I had my hand on the cart but head turned in a different direction shopping and the lady had gotten way to close for comfort which is why I had heard what her daughter said. I sped walked out of there 🤦🏻♀️ and now am super paranoid about turning my head away from a child and/or personal items in a store.

Keep in mind that if they have your driver's license they have your address along with your house keys! Plus your phone! It's not that difficult to grab a purse under something. Just FYi.

Yup...I accidentally walked away from my cart while my purse (designer) was in it. I was amazed and thanked God that no one took it! It can happen so quickly...bc of doing that I try not to take a purse into the store now.

What my family and I do is snap the child seatbelt through the strap. So if someone wants to take my bag, they gonna take my cart. No one's ever tried to take anything before, but i always imagine the would be thief, all smug, sliding their hand in the cart, startin to walk away when WHAM they're thrown onto their robbin ass by a whiplash baby restraint

Was going to garage sales in the summer with my parents and I happened to forget my purse was ON me when I closed the door- as I was reaching in to grab the purse. The door bounced off my wrist (and I'd shut it fairly hard to bounce off the way it did) and we had to stop off at a medicentre to get my wrist checked out.
Thankfully not even a hairline fracture was on it, but it's easier for my forgetful mind to have a much on my waist at all times than run the risk of that incident happening again with a purse, or even this type of incident given how forgetful I am.
My mom used the seatbelt where you'd strap a kid in to hold her purse more securely in the cart when she steps away- unless I'm watching it.

Something like happen to me I was grocery shopping with my daughter and my uncle. I had a notebook with all doctors appointment for me and my daughter with grocery list including my work schedule. Everything I written down and I turn my back. Next thing you know it, somebody stole it out of my basket. Whoever did it. Probably thought it was a wallet.
My wallet and special information is always home or in my pocket. My purse only contains change,feminine hygiene, and personal items. So unless you want a hand full of tampons and a note that says “haha im broke!” keep it moving.

My grandma always uses the kid buckle on the cart to tie her purse down so no one can just grab it and go. I’ve seen an elderly woman, around 90 or so, and I explained to her that she needed to tie hers with the buckle too because she had her back turned to it and anyone could have easily grabbed it. I do it too when I bring my purse.
