Thieves Steal $1,600 Worth of Paper Towels and Detergent

- A team of four masked shoplifters filled a minivan and SUV with the stolen goods from a grocery store in Connecticut, making away with about $1,600 worth of detergent and paper towels. Onlookers seemed more interested in filming and berating the shoplifters than calling the police. Most large stores have a “no chase” policy for shoplifters. Connecticut State Police advised that had 911 been called, they could have intervened.

Why do bystanders even give a damn? Mind your own business
The fact that the employees now a days will get fired for stopping a theft is ridiculous to me, it’s like “why am I here then just to hope you buy something”
That's not a now a days thing. That's always been store policies to prevent harm to their employees. It's a policy that protects the business as well so employees can't sue the if they get hurt while trying to stop a crime. Retail workers don't get paid enough to prevent crime. So, actually yes that's exactly what their job is, to help the people who wanna buy things, buy things.
Found the dude who's never worked retail or at a grocery store
If those thieves had a knife or gun, the employee would be harmed.
Yep its cause they dont want to be liable if the employees get hurt trying to stop a shop lifter. I knew someone got fired from walmart cuz they stopped the thief.
My first job was at K-mart back in 1995 and it was always stressed to us that physically attempting to stop a theft would be grounds for immediate termination. That’s why they have an asset protection team, who work hand in hand with the police. One of my managers attempted to stop a man trying to walk out with a stereo one day that I was off work. The man ended up stabbing him in the face, head, neck and chest with a 3 inch pocket knife, killing him.
The guy who yelled "Todd Stop" gave everyone there a reality check fr
Someone on here who was an Employee at a store said that someone stole about $30 in steaks and stole something else, so he chased the Thief to their car and got the Thief's face and their license plate number, showed this to their Boss and the Boss didn't call 911 and instead the Employee got into trouble for chasing the Thief to their car and taking pictures of the Thief and the license plate number. Posters were like,"What a messed up world where YOU got into trouble with your Boss and the Thief was able to get away scot free."

That is not shocking. A solo thief here in San Francisco would get more in less time and wouldn’t even use a stolen car, because robbery cars can be rented here.

The policy exists because, in the event anyone involved (employees, customers, suspects) sustains an injury or worse, dies in the process of trying to stop them, the company can be held liable for that and sued since it is on their property.
