    I don't see why the employees have to testify in court to convict the shoplifters. All that should be needed is the video of them taking items without paying for them and them being caught with the stolen items.

    • @agn728
      @agn728 9 месяцев назад +46

      The real answer is you don't HAVE to. I work in Asset Protection and most of the time we will receive a subpoena/request for records and they will state we can either send a Certificate of Records summarizing your qualifications and the evidence provided, and if one is not returned they may reach back out to request testimony regarding the evidence turned over. Otherwise there's no guarantee the files are authentic and/or accurate.
      On occasion for larger/unique cases they may call in the AP Leader or whoever made/ran the stop/Investigation on the subject, but it's not like cashiers are going to court every time someone pockets a steak lol

I only saw it happen once and I shop there weekly. Very little is locked up in stores in my area. I don't understand why the local government puts the responsibility of law enforcement on the store. The reality is we would need to pump more funding into the criminal justice system in order to process and prosecute all crimes. Are you willing to ask Congress to adjust their budget allocations or are you willing to pay additional taxes? We need to get the funding from somewhere. As it currently stands, many court cases are crazy backlogged and it can take weeks or months before a trial takes place. If I were wrongfully accused of a crime I did not commit and I couldn’t make bail and had to wait it out in county jail until the matter can be resolved by a judge, I would be absolutely miserable and terrified of dying in county jail. All because city resources were tied up prosecuting misdemeanor offenses.
      Is it right? No, absolutely not. Criminals should be punished. But it’s going to require a heck of a reform across the entire system in order to start prosecuting every enforceable crime. And bear in mind court cases usually take multiple days for arraignment, motions to delay a case, or if a lawyer has to reschedule due to conflicting schedules, plus jury selection, etc. This is all before it goes to trial. And in between that prosecution will be negotiating with defense for a plea bargain because settling this out of court saves the city (aka tax payers) money. Operating a trial costs money. And we would need to build more courtrooms just to have space to process these cases. And hire more prosecutors, cops, detectives, public defenders, county jail staff, etc in order to process all these extra people.

      problem is in CA, any theft under a grand in total would just make the cops look the other direction and call it a day, then you people question why it then becomes a pain in the ass to buy a quick drink at local "convience" stations and pharmacies.

Now you can double or more because you have to ask an associate to open the shelf for you. They may be helping other customers so you’ll have to wait instead of grab and check out which add to the time tremendously.

    I worked as a front end cashier for Walgreens. I had people come in and simply help themselves to whatever they wanted whenever they felt like it. daily theft of feminine hygene products, razors, hair dye, whatever, I was told to simply ignore them, which I did until I was held up at gunpoint at closing and the manager refused to come out of the back room where he was counting the deposit. He stated it never happened because no cash was taken, however that was an impossibily because the cash drawer was in the back room. Managment ignored my request for a sit down meeting, the police were never called, the take was : It never happened: the guy was just hanging out because it was cold out, and "he was waiting for the bus", despite camera footage which clearly showed the incident: IT NEVER HAPPENED!! The next working day I called in Dead. The manager said :"You can't quit like this! Whose going to do all the work?" I said "I guess you are. Goodby now." Japan's crime rate is low because their society values social harmony over all else. Regardless of what the legal system says, Japanese society assumes criminals are guilty until proven innocent. Prosecutors have been caught faking evidence to maintain the country's high conviction rate, which has resulted in at least 1 wrongful execution (likely many more). And because society values harmony over all else, police and prosecutors will "let things slide" to keep the peace. Japanese police would rather let men beat their wives and let the Yakuza run their racketeering schemes than risk public disorder and the shame that comes with it.

I saw them all come in together, they were standing together, then I realized the lady with the shoping cart was gone! I started looking around, and she had snaked her way down an aisle and was heading towards the front door.
    So I said " Oh, ok , I'll call.911, just hold on! I went behind the counter and picked up the phone and dialed 911, and said " Hey, can you send the police to my store, there's a shop lifting in pogress!" Lol!
