    Let's get something straight. Self Checkout has NEVER been intended to make checkout easier or faster for the customers. It's ONLY purpose is remove employees from the payroll.

      @GigaChad_169 5 месяцев назад +12

      EXACTLY...in other news sales of bananas have skyrocketed since people were forced to check themselves out with these kiosks😁

      Exactly. It’s about making the customers do the work.

    • @UmmYeahOk
      @UmmYeahOk 4 месяца назад +11

      Not really. Most of the places I’ve been to that have self checkout, simply repurposed these workers, and even hired more. You see, the real labor needed is fulfillment. Instead of standing all day scanning items, employees actually get to walk around, pulling items off shelves that people ordered for pick up. Where I live, most big box stores that have added self checkout in the last few years are STILL hiring. There is work to be had.
      People who pick a human cashier simply on the grounds that they believe they are providing someone a job, tend to also be the same people who refuse to put products back, refold, or hang up merchandise because they believe the very same, they’re providing work for someone who needs it, when the reality is that they already had a billion other things they needed to be doing rather than picking up after sloppy people.

    • @c5cpe
      @c5cpe 4 месяца назад +3

      Correct. And what happened to 20 or less isles? Nobody ever enforced it because the lack of professionalism just trickled down to to cashiers…

    • @UmmYeahOk
      @UmmYeahOk 4 месяца назад

      @@c5cpe as a former cashier who worked at those 10 items or less registers, dealing with people in general was a constant fear, so most of us kept our mouths shut just to avoid dealing with “Karens.” But I will never forget the time when someone was upset that I didn’t say anything to the customer with 11 items in the 10 or less aisle. She was so upset that not only did the customer not enforce the rule, but that I didn’t either. But what made this person so memorable was that she had three separate transactions, each 10 items or less. Sure, she might’ve had 3 different forms of payment, or it was for three different people, but the fact remains, she was complaining about someone having 11, when she had almost 30, but it was somehow ok for her, since each transaction was under 10. Of course, how do you talk to someone like that? With what little the company paid me, was it worth getting into an argument over? So I continued to keep quiet.
      I am glad those lanes were replaced with self checkout. They should have never been that close to the door because people by nature walk to the closest without reading signs, or even noticing that the cashiers light is off altogether.

      Yup those guards aren't going to blow a slightly above minimum wage gig getting into a confrontation with someone stealing. Even if they do apprehend someone, the negative backlash from the activists would force the security company to fire the guard to take the heat off them. This happens a lot, companies are weak and bow to pressure of radical activists and chuck the low wage schmuck overboard. This is why that guard didn't want to do anything when that old man complained, he wanted to keep his cushy job chatting with the other guard while playing security theatre.

    Shoplifting has become a major problem in London (England UK) and probably other cities and places, but it is London that gets most of the publicity about this issue. There are many complaints that the police don't turn up, but it would take the recruitment of many hundreds of thousands of police officers for London alone, to guard and monitor all the shops in the capital city. According to media reports this week, there are many Albanian (Eastern Europe) gangs that are sending people over to the UK, specifically to shoplift, including children. It is a difficult problem to solve, but very stressful for shop staff, who are also attacked. There is one major supermarket, the Co-Op, who reported recently that three members of staff have become HIV positive, because they were injected by shoplifters. There are also numerous physical and mental attacks. It's a really bad situation, and getting worse and worse every month. My local supermarket tells me that there is extensive shoplifting every day. Apparently, quite a lot is sold on EBay and the Internet. At the end of the day, it is the honest and decent shopper that pays for higher prices, as a result of shoplifting.

    • @happycook6737

      Everyone who buys a used item online or at a price too good to be true is also guilty of shoplifting in my opinion. Self check outs in my local grocery store was updated with one's with more security features so theft near impossible......glad to see the updated self checkouts and I love them as the bagging area little bigger now and makes checkout easier for someone in a wheelchair have more accessibility

    Why not reached out to shop lifter mafia and DA to stop this madness that we have to suffer on their “best” behaviors.

    A friend of mine loves the self checkout. He scans his items quickly and heck if they scan they scan and if they don't they don't. His response is he is not trained as a cashier.

    Most of the self checkouts I see in NYC would quietly notify an employee if it thinks I didn’t scan a product.

    Simple solution. Close all retail to foot traffic, app only, curbside or pickup

    LOL, so nix the self-checkout?! I've been waiting for an upside to all this thievery so I guess this is it, never thought it would be just this simple. I loathe the self checkout line and have only done it ONCE, I honestly thought some fat security guard was gonna tackle me as I walked toward the exit even though I did everything right, eventually. Also this ensures jobs for unionized checkers throughout California so it's a win-win!

    I wish all stores would get rid of self checkout and go back to hiring American workers as employees.
