I'm glad you kept emphasising how smooth it was Phil. I have the short course truck version of this. It possibly has a slightly longer wheelbase, but the far larger body makes it look great whilst it so smoothly glides around. It's one of my absolute favourite cars because it offers good looks, great fun and plenty enough speed, all for under £200. And I can't recommend it enough for our firm British beaches. 2WD makes it easier to clean up afterwards and it just flies along. The only minor drawback is that the body likes to parachute, so definitely add plenty of vent holes to try and control this on 3s speed.
I just filmed a video of the jumpshot SCT flux which im still editing, and it wanted to wheelie a ton too, but once i vented the rear of the body it settled down and was able to go over 50, but i think the way i vented it acted like a stabilizer. Excellent cars they are, and amazing deals for the performance and name brand.
I still think HPI is a slept on brand. The Venture builders kit will go anywhere any of the larger brands will and I have used the WheelKing as a crawler and its held up better than anyone else's rigs. Hell its had more straight vertical falls than a couple Axial and Traxxas rigs I know of, and I broke one knuckle in three years.
Some of the best fun I have had with RC is with 2WD trucks. My Rustler was the same, even as an XL-5, it was just a wheelie machine. And my 2WD Slash is a ton of fun as well, I have more fun with it than I do my 4WD. For the price, though, this HPI truck looks like a no-brainer. It may even show up on my front door step soon.
This whole christmas calendar thing is going quite well. That truck is pretty good. The only HPI car I have is a 5b Flux, it goes well, is durable, quality seems very much there. Haven't bashed it really hard though.
I have 2. Nitro rs4 3evo with m3 body and very little the most reliable nitro I’ve ever had and an e10 with brushless conversion goes very well for being a cheaper model. They sit among various Tamiyas, ftxs and Trx4 and my trusty umg 6x6. I had a nitro savage once but it wasn’t a good experience at all 😂😂
I have one of their racing/drifting ones and it goes over 50mph now and everything is stock except the motor and esc and I've crashed it many times and it's never broke
It's a fun stadium truck for sure 👍 Just takes a little more skill to drive because of the 2wd, but that's part of the fun. And a change of pace from all the 4wd trucks 🙂
I've found the best & most under rated 2wd is the Team Associated Trophy Rat (available in other versions now). Handles like a 4wd when you want to, or a 2wd at will, but not a basher being based on a buggy. The HPI is a member of the fun, rather than 'kill it with fire' market.
My favorite so far! I have a Traxxas 2WD Rustler fully upgraded. And i can say im not sure why because 4x4 is better but i can't leave it alone! 2WD is such a fun and challenging platform to drive that i can't move on! It holds a special place for me i suppose!
I love the chassis plates, makes me think of the HPI Savages. Still got my E-Savage (all-time favorite), would love to still bash it, maybe put a brushless in there, but finding parts got so hard. So if anything breaks 🤷 Been thinking about buying a used one if I find one.
I love seeing some love for the 2wd stadium trucks, HPI especially! It’s such a fun type of truck and I’d love to see a resurgence of the stadium truck
Yup, that decides it. I've considered this or an Arrma Typhon or Senton. This truck is cheaper, at least as fast, and unlike the Arrma models, it's actually in stock. This looks like a solid little stadium truck indeed.
Those bits in the bag that you said you didn't know what they were should be replacement shock pistons for inside the shocks. maybe they're stock replacement or they have more or less holes for different oil flow allowance.
This car has a 4000kv motor, and it hits 48 on 3s on stock gearing. That's good. That's enough power The crazy thing is that the traxxas rustler vxl has a 3300kv motor, and with the stock gearing on 3s, I was able to get one to go 55. The rustler is absolutely MENTAL in terms of it's speed
Had mine a couple of years now and found pretty much the same issues as you had out of the box. I got a 3D printed flexible wing for mine in the end which is holding up well.
Loving the advent callender idea. You'll definitely earn yourself a break after Christmas and these videos are all done. The parts you didn't know what they were are toe adjustment cups for the rear end. The hole is a slightly different offset in those cups to the ones fitted so you can either add, or remove some rear toe to help with either straight line stability, or turn in, depending on which way you adjust it. The 3 dots around the outside of them are so you get them both in the same way up, otherwise your rear end will be all cockeyed. lol As for the TVP chassis. I used to work in two different hobby shops, and the majority of repairs were guys who had bent the plates in their Savage. They give great vertical rigidity, but laterally they fold like like a handkerchief. I even saw one that the front and rear tyre on one side were touching after getting T-boned by my mates MTA4 when he tried to cut in front of our drag race. My mates damage was a pivot ball popped out of his front knuckle. Since that day, I've never been a fan.
It's a great truck but I've had to tie the steering arms to the chassis so I don't loose them when they come off. I ordered the wheelie bar about a year ago from modelsport and still waiting on it.. That would have helped the wing last longer for me
Phil, I've heard from multiple reliable sources that if you say "stop, read" in the GPS speed app, it helps get a satellite lock. And it SHOULD get you more viewers too. You're welcome.
Not owned a hpi yet but the chassis design has always seemed such a good idea, but other manufacturers have not tried it (to my knowledge) so I'm left wondering... maybe someday I will get to try it out. Great video and enjoying the advent calendar.
It looks like a great little truck and it could be a lot of fun. It's interesting that HPI is using the ladder chassis in a variety of trucks. I think that chassis first appeared in the original Savage decades ago. I can't find it in the states as cheap as you mentioned. On Amain and Amazon they're about $255. This an excellent review.
Just rewatched this. I think the trash bag around the body feels like something they could look into( 1:10). I think part of experience is the unboxing.
I dont like or own any 2wheel Bashers but I must say this could be my first had you not reviewed it most people wouldn’t even know it performs so well it already looks good.
This video was epic. I remember wanting one of these so bad as a kid. I had an RC truck but I didn't do 40 miles an hour!! Lol. 😂 Seems like a lot of fun, great camera work as well on the skate park. Tomley RC.
This looks pretty great for the money. I remember my old HPI RS4 drift car from 15 years ago cost more and that was brushed with an unbalanced chassis.

Im a gorgon fan but churning out brushed crap in 2023 takes the piss,id even be happier if the gorgon was sold as a roller but they dont... Yet !?
Awesome video!. The only HPI I own is their old Nitro MT that I've owned since around 2000 and I still love it but was considering converting it to electric..
It is my birthday today and I got my first ever 4x4 rc truck because I saw you where reviewing in and also love watching these vids of the advent calendar keep it going well done 👍
If you make another video on this car it would be cool if you could test out the other 2 mounting locations for the middle tray that holds the battery, radio & ESC to see how it affects the handling. By default it's in the rearmost position, and by moving it forwards you should get less wheelies and more front wheel grip while turning. It should be similar to how the battery position affects handling in the Firestorm, I usually keep mine middle-rear-ish for a some slightly better traction but still lots of wheelies on command :)
Ive been looking at the EAZYRC 1/18 RC Monster and the HYPER GO H14BM , and i seem to like this one the best it has way more control vs the other ones, and has speed like the other ones but just way more control.
i got one of these given to me as it kept making noises when pressing on the throttle, i took it apart and i noticed no diff oil in the diff .so i put some on and it works perfect now
My Firestorm Flux was my first hobby grade RC (bought in 2009) and it's still my favourite, you should definitely get it out for a blast! 2WD stadium truck handling as well as all the wheelies just make it so much fun to drive. I've been thinking of getting one of these as well since it seems very similar, might see about getting one during the usual holiday sales.

Other than being heavier I feel sometimes it is an advantage because of the extra weight on low bite tracks. You should set that up for offroad carpet racing. I would love to see you review a Nitro Stadium truck.

Only big downside to rwd or fwd is that only 2 wheels do the braking compared to 4. Doesn't stop the fun though just need to remember you need more braking distance.

It's a Mini T copy imo, but more capable with 3S, looks better, cheaper, built tougher, and tuned to not be ridiculously overpowered unless you choose to do so. They did good on this one!
A mini T copy? That's 1/10th scale? By that logic my AE Rc10T6.2 is a mini T copy lmao. Stadium trucks have been around for like 3 decades in this hobby..
@@ChrisP576 Yeah I haven't been back in in too long so I'm going off of what little I know. It is a 1/10 scale.. didn't think so in the video but that gives it even more value for the money. Whatever the full size mini T is would have been a more appropriate comment but that thing is like $400.
Love me a hpi car iv got 2 wr8s 2 micro rs4s hpi maverick rx rally and a hpi wheelyking plus thay have some awesome trucks and nitros for the nitro fans out there 👍
Awesome video Tomley that truck is quite a lot of fun. I'd honestly be more than happy to just run it on 2 S. It looks alright too. Funny thing occurs to me now though that with a lot of officially licensed bodies I'm getting kind of spoilt if that's the word , so when a vehicle that is not based on a real world car pops up it kind of feels strange now. But hey when Tamiya released there buggies in the 1980's they weren't actually licensed real life body shells and everybody grew to love them . HPI have got quite a racing pedigree too. I reckon this is an AWESOME truck. Have a great Christmas and a happy new year. Wishing all the best to you and your family and friends.
I wonder if the arms and front end could be modified to fit my old rush evo 🤔 too scared to even get it out as old plastic and no spare parts whatsoever and I wonder if they still run the stupid front wheel bearings as the old 2wd’s like the rush?
Super love that thing! I honestly like the 2wd stadium type trucks better than the 4wd stuff sometimes. You need better driving skills normally with a 2wd. Keeps me on my toes! 😂
What radio upgrade do you like/use/recommend? I just need a better than RTR but not crazy flashy with things I don't need or use. Just for SCT, and any other vehicle I get down the road.I don't want to spend big money but I do want a solid feeling and quality put together RC car radio. I'm in the U.S.
They Should Bring Back the ORIGINAL Electric E-Savage 4WD... Not the Newer Ones but the One from Mid 2000's and older... That was a GOOD Truck. Update it a Little where needed.
Hey phil i was curious how you feel about the maverick line and if they should ax it and put more into their core lineup? Short story long i had rc car action magazine back in the day and was enamored by nitro as electric was still running series parallel round cells then .. and yes i still want one, it was the 1st gen rs4 nitro mini .. everything from the unique muffler to the profile of the chassis and that adorable lil hatchback body.. its really a shame how things have gone for hpi and do hope they keep the torch

Only big downside to rwd or fwd is that only 2 wheels do the braking compared to 4. Doesn't stop the fun though just need to remember you need more braking distance.
Yeah, not as easy to stop for sure
Or you modify it to use brake pads on the unpowered wheels like the ones that are on nitro cars. What with the mixing we can now do on some remotes
@@cazadon sorry you've lost me. If you're talking about the servo activated disc mounted on the drive cup on the spool gear it won't work ,how would you connect the front wheels to it as there needs to be a shaft to a diff to CVD's .If you're talking about hub mounted discs and calipers they don't fit behind the wheel of anything smaller than a 1/8 might even only be 1/5th size wheel.
This seems alot of fun, what are the future plans with this .... ?
It’s cool seeing Hpi’s designs. Something different 🚗
My GNSS has been playing up since August. Thought it was just mine.
I’ve ordered a new one.. see if that helps
@@TomleyRC Guess I'm going to have to do the same. 🥺
Hopefully by Christmas I'll have found my missing RC tank and cars, they were put somewhere but I don't know where.
They're the tint ones. 🧐👍
Nice. I liked it when they made their 4wd stadium truck the rs4.
I can't say too much, but the Maverick line will soon get a refresh, and I'm hoping what I've seen is as good as it looks ;)
another good video, i had one of these and did have trouble with motor slipping on it, found 2wd a bit of a pain so let it go to new owner
Yeah, 2wd is just a little different to drive and can be frustrating on certain surfaces
That's a cool truck especially for the price! The calendar rocks‼️👍👍🦾🦾🤘🤘
I have a traxxas rustler 2wd that screams on 3s. I think it would do 60-80 mph. So far I have broke it 3 times, and usually within 10 minutes.
The Rustler is uncontrollable about 60mph on stock tyres.... but a great platform
Thank you for your video! All of your Amazon favorites are "currently unavailable". Do you have any other recommendations that can be purchased from Amazon?
There's a solar flare thing going on right now
Rustled vxl 2wd vs this?
It looks fantastic! Those are the type of RC that I like, very high, so I can jump and drive on dirt without craying 😂
I think those big cars can Benefit from bigger, softer wheels
On the 9th day of Christmas some cool dude gave to me ...and Kool 2wd HPI rc
Hi tomley.love your stuff dude.how about doing a simple intuitive video of rc maintenance and what to look for problem wise.slipper clutches, suspension starting points etc.I mean like how they should sound and feel after a rebuild.think a video like this would save me and others a bomb in trial and error.also I can’t seem to find vids on how to jump/land cars properly.cheers dude n merry Xmas
Fantastic bashing and review, Phil! What a great truck!!! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
And happy holidays!
Thanks mate
Muy buenos dias Mr Tom como estas , hoy es el dia noveno del calendario navideño de Papa tom, me gusta ese auto es rapido pero muy inestable a toda velocidad , muchas gracias por compartir , feliz dia desde Panama con cariño saludos
P s ,hpi should have a motor guard ??
Looks a fun car not overly strong or designed for jumps and bashing but good speed :)
hi, what's your opinion abouth maverick Quantum Q2 brushed vs jumpshot MT V2? one is 2WD and other 4WD but regarding quality and for first car? thx a lot and wish you a good day from France.
Any recommendations for someone just starting off, would a 4x4 be a better starting point i have a 300 dollar budget, would like something that can go over 35 maybe 40 mph, great content btw.
My biggest gripe with hpi was parts availability but now with internet i might try again
The Alan/Allen bit never gets old.
I dig the advent idea 👍🏼 Cool ST
Great cars for the money, know a few people with these and they've had very few issues and had a lot of fun.
Great car. Absolutely an animal and ended up trading it off for a king kong scale rig 6x6. Something that would last longer.
I love your videos! I stopped watching Kevin talbot when last year he made that trump escape from jail video and called literally everyone in the comments a snowflake.
But I really want to see more content on the higher end of the RCs. I’m not super interested in the cheaper ones. I do have a mix hyper go and I love it though.
I want to see sledge content, super Baja ray, being out your Capra again!
Just wanted to share. I really love your content! I think I watch every one of your videos.
Tomley your killing it with these videos i look forward to seing the rest i think you might need a small break after this series
Day 9 I’ve watched all & it’s my routine now watching everyday. Views may be lower then you expected but that doesn’t mean a lot of us love watching these everyday👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏
Awesome rc another great advent video 👌
Hi phil no you dint mention the price til you did lol n that link you sent for the truck doesn't give you the option to buy it just gives you all the info about it
Yes, my audience are all over thew world, so the HPI sight gives you a search tool for your local HPI dealer :)
I've had a 100 off-road stadium and sct trucks I toss the slipper cover first thing never got a rock in them
I like the look of that.
Did you say this comes with a battery? I've got a £200 budget for my first RC car (as an adult). Was wondering if you think this might be a good choice for a first car? I'll be mainly using it in forest tracks/gravel.
You have to get batteries separate
You need a simulator rig on a trailer so you can drive VR and feel what the RC's doing.
That one looks way tougher than my ECX Ruckus. Looks more as a MT than a ST.
Hi Phil, I follow you since 2022, I am looking for 4 well drive car not too expensive for my son do you have some suggestion?
Where is the link for the car? And nice video, keep it up man
