  • After six months and a bit of using the Gabriel Gloves from CHFG, or whatever the business is called, I am still happy.
My hip? Not so much. But physio and a break will fix that.
So if you want to know how the gloves held up for six months of teaching every week and being smacked in the hands, tune in, and you'll see the answer is: very well.

Thank you for the update! It's always good to see other people using the same gloves so that I can get an idea of how other people deal with my same problems. Sometimes they have solutions for things I hadn't thought of. So I'll post my two cents here, in case anyone wants to hear. My gloves are about two years old now. My left Gabriel is good as new. My RIGHT Gabriel is almost utterly destroyed. Lol. On the right glove, both of the Chicago screws on the thumb have broken and I have since replaced them with stretchy ties. I might replace them with rivets later, mostly because I didn't want to increase the size of the hole for a different size of Chicago screw and potentially damage the plastic since it's hard to find Chicago screws in the EXACT size. But I might later, just in case, the stretchy cords on the thumb hinge don't work out very well. The rings around the first finger have broken off and causes the shell to stick out too far and the finger can get hit badly. The fabric cover on the knuckle had the ties underneath that connect it to the glove broke immediately, but that isn't too important unless you get stabbed between the fingers. Also, all the rivets have rusted, but that might be the Lysol. The wrist protection is fantastic, but every other tie has since needed to be replaced. Also, cleaning inside the fingers is a little annoying. All that being said, I enjoy the little ritual of sitting down and fixing my gear. These are STILL, BY FAR, the absolute BEST best gloves I have ever used. I will use these forever if I can. My whole fechtshule is jealous. Will I buy them again? No, I would spend the effort to fix these first while I hold out for another pair of five fingers gloves similar to a pseudo-progauntlet that will probably be sold 5 or 10 years down the line. What I mean is, these are, in my opinion, the best 5 finger hema gloves you can buy.

That's very unusual, to have one glove fail like that, and the other be fine. I wonder if there's a production flaw. Hopefully, if you can pass the details along, and improvements can be made for quality control and in the version 3 or 4. Finger gloves for HEMA are always tricky, but eventually they'll get close enough to what we need!

Seems like a good pair, always nice to see follow-ups on how things are holding up, thanks for sharing!

We lack follow-ups in society, so I’m happy to provide my niche subject with some details. They are good gloves!

I just got the newest version about a week ago. I think so far the attribute that can be improved is the lack of grip the gloves provide. I think the grip of the glove needs to be just glove material so it can get broken in and not allow the sword to slide as easy, or have more grip material like a rubber that can lend to gripping weapons easier.

Perhaps lines or a pattern, not just dots, then. That would be useful. So far I haven't had any problems with cord wrap or leather I've done myself when using the gloves, but I know some grips from manufacturers are tricky and could use gloves with better contact solutions. Of course, getting that tennis wrap tape they make could be a short term solution as well.
Thanks for adding your feedback! It matters!

I haven't used my gabriels as long as you have, but they've been wonderful hand protection for arming sword. I've only had two really painful strikes, and one of the was from a bad block leading to me taking a swing with the underside of my hand, where not even mits would protect anyway.
I have no regrets getting a pair, and will continue to swear by them

Wooo hooray for the Gabriels fan club! I hope your hand wasn’t injured in that underside hit. Even with all the gear, nothing is perfect I suppose.

@@LaurenDangerShaw It stung but didn't bruise, thankfully. A few minutes to let it subside was all it needed to get back into the swing of things

That’s good! I am glad there was no bruise and that you didn’t need to take time off. Well, apart from a few minutes.
