I have a set of their previous version (test version). They are good. As protective as SPES, and even better in the fingertips. There is a issue with thumb flexibility, but the thumb is far better protected.
@@heirihunziker I talked to a few people and they claim after about a month it does improve a lot, however it might depend on variability in the leather manufacturing (no clue if they have a single supplier and what qc is but natural materials always have some variability) or perhaps slightly different cuts being used. Or maybe some people just have stronger thumbs and force the glove to adapt more idk lol It definitely does NOT let the thumb slip out of the shell thanks to nylon reinforcement at the tip
@@Sk0lzky In the meantime, I've received my pair of HF mittens and have been using them for a couple weeks. Lateral thumb mobility has improved a bit but still not quite ideal. Another issue is that it's kinda hard to get the thumb lying flat on the blade, even with a good amount of pressure it's just the tip of the underside of the thumb shell touching the blade and the rest of the thumb is hovering in the air at an angle. Which makes it easy for the thumb to slip off the blade sideways when one doesn't want that to happen. Hoping this will improve as I continue to wear the gloves in. Overall they're imho the best longsword glove on the market right now, though I have not had a chance to test the very newest version of the Kvetun gloves yet which are supposed to have improved a couple points over the first edition (I didn't like the first edition of the Kvetuns quite as much as the HF glove).
Thx for the review. The latest version seems quite nice. That shop is improving ! It's also quite similar to superior fencing clamshell gloves, and about the same price It's always good to get more options on the market !
I have been fighting in the SCA in about 20 years and have had my thumbs busted on two or three occations in different steel mittens. Took about a year each to heal... Now gone over to HEMA since moving to a place with no SCA clubs around and have to change my equipment. I have been having my eyes on theese mittens for some time without beeing able to decide. My main question is how the thumb works: I am not worried about bruises, busted nails, broken fingerbones et c, since the protection from such damages seems just fine. The injuries I have had have instead all come from compression - the thumb is bent from a hit on the tip, or pushed backwards/sideways so that the joint(s) or sinews gets hurt. Do you have any input on this?
Both are good options and in use at our clubs. I slightly prefer these HFA's as if I am going to wear mittens I want maximum protection and the hard shells of the HFA are superior in that regard.
How much does the cuff interfere with crossed hands (e.g. left Twerhau / right Ochs)? Can the insides of both wrists be held close together as required for most two handed swords?
@@MichaelGThomas Thanks in advance - any update on the crossed arm positions? (especially with the newer version of the gloves with longer and wider cuffs)
This is the most important question. And also if the inner part of the wrist protections are catching against each other during this movements? Also bigger size of it could mean bigger hit-box. Also I have some concerns about fingers mobility because of stitching of the mitten to the finger tip plate

So the thumb did not loosen up over time, or at least not sufficiently for the quick grip switches required for German longsword?

Very similar, just a little more close fitting on the hand.
Very informative. Just waiting for my pair at the moment. They just shipped out from HF yesterday.

Informative.
How does the thumb mobility compare to that of the SPES V2 Lobsters?
I find it the best of the mittens so far. Better than the SPES V2

How’s say, thumbing the blade on a longsword, and the resting position in a handshake grip?
Interesting. Have tou tried their cuirass, btw?
Great reviews as usual guys. Hey have you tried the superior fencing knock off of Dario's thokks?
No, but we will very soon
Great review thanks! Do they comfortably fit inside a Kvetun Easton or similar sabre?
I have a similar bowl hilt, a VB Light Saber, and no.
Your progauntlets failed in an hour?! How? Is there a review of this? I want to know everything!!
would you recommend these or the Sparring glove mittens? ( hourglass cuff)

I will double check tomorrow night at fencing for you.

Was there any update on this? Torn between these and the Kvetuns
You can have your forearms touching without an interference of the glove.
May I ask how they are those?
The price?
@@MichaelGThomas *how heavy are those : ) somehow lost a word lol

@@Skywalker_UA Thx for the info!
What's the protection on the thumb like?
Like a tank on all sides other than the underside which is toughened fabric
@@MichaelGThomas great to hear. My thumbs will be so happy.
@@MichaelGThomas yeah I'm so glad for the toughened fabric. Keeps the thumb safe from the bottom as well.
