The Chrome is more an aircraft chrome, and not a bumper chrome so no comparison. The Liquid Silver line is more designed for hand painting. Because it does have powdered aluminum mixed with the paint, it isn't recommended to spray with an airbrush. Be like taking 400 grit sandpaper to the inside of your airbrush. Use the the gloss that comes in the Vallejo Metal color line to overcoat these, and they really come to life. As far as cost comparison to Alclad. Up here in Canada, both lines are the same price, about $12/bottle. But you get more of the Vallejo, and you can hand paint with them as well as airbrush them. No hand painting with Alclad. As well the Vallejo line has little to no smell, unlike Alclad. The Liquid Silver line is like $8, but again, not really to be airbrushed.
Alclad is also a brand that I just heard about that isn't available for me to purchase here in Australia. Vallejo is better for hand painting anyway, which is what I do.

I'm not knocking your test or results, but I do have to ask, did you apply a varnish to the Vallejo metallics after they dried? The company's own demo video [ruclips.net/video/E1MVvS1phcE/видео.html] does say that a coat of gloss varnish makes the paint look more realistic.
Just FYI I wouldn't use the Vallejo Liquid Series that much. As nice as they are. The liquid series is notorious for damaging brushes or air brushes. You have to have a separate brush or airbrush for them. Be careful they do damage things

Guess I'll have to stop trying to spray mine... another issue I had with them is that they can dust like crazy - one figurine comes out perfectly fine, the other grittier than 400 grit sandpaper :| I don't know if its the alcohol drying just too fast or me doing something wrong (too high pressure, too far away from the mini), but it's lottery for me :| At least they are cheaper in the EU, about 4-5 bucks a bottle.
The main drawback i found when using Alclad was that Tamiya tape left marks on the finish which is a real bug bear ...i haven't found that with the Vellejo ones..but as you have pointed out they don't have the ''Mettalic ness'' of Alclad..the new Tamiya Lacquer has some metal colours and they have been the best for me..very hard wearing paint and no problems with tape marks
Gotta say as someone who has particularly enjoyed Vjellos metal colour range this is interesting. Though working on the fairly small scale sometimes being close enough is enough compared to the convenience of working with an Acrylic over alcohol. I might keep an eye out for allclad though, I would like to give it a try.

You have to spray those colours over a super gloss surface in missed it on just like you would miss on alclad but build it up somewhat slowly and then the effect of the colour comes through even better it will not be as bright and shiny as alclad but the lustre will definitely be superior than most acrylic paints
Great vid. I was just at Andy's looking at Alclad colors. Think they might be my go to for metal's wasn't a lot in stock. Going to try some mission model metal's and see what comes from it.
They look really good on DnD miniatures where they mimic a matt metal finish, and can be hand painted. But yeah, at large scale some of them don't look super realistic.

I too agree that Alclad II is the better metal color, but you're comparing apples to oranges. Alclad II is Lacquer Based (as you know) and Vallejo is Acrylic. I can't paint Lacquer during the winter at my location as I don't have enough ventilation. Your vids are great and I've learned a lot, but please keep the comparisons to paint in the same class. Acrylic to Acrylic, Enamel to Enamel, Lacquer to Lacquer, or at least when you say X Paint doesn't compare to Alclad, but put a reminder in that Alclad is a Lacquer. Have a great day.

Hi, i was wondering if i could use tamiya's retarder with this? It's the only acrylic retarder i have on me atm. Metal colors seems to clog my airbrush after just few seconds of spraying :( I'm using 20 psi with ps-270 (.2mm), i can't get that nice thin layer you are getting for some reason..
I just to test them with a lot of difficulties to spray them, i thinned with airbush thinner and flow improver i surprise the spray it so different on your vidéo. Can you tell me if you thinned them? What the size of your needle and pression please. Thanks
Wow, they just don't hold up to Alclad...I guess the main draw is that they are safer than Alclad? But I have a respirator...so not too worried about that. They might be more competitive if they were $5 a bottle...but with Alclad being $7-8...I'll stay with Alclad.

@@MrDLRUclips you are limited to your choices for sure. Vallejo Metal paint would be your go to I'm just not crazy about them. Now if you want your standard metallic metal colors you can try AK Interactive 3rd Gen paint or Ammo by Mig metallics. Both of those have a bunch of metal colors to choose from like silver, steel and gunmetal that give pretty nice results. Plus they're inexpensive so you can try a couple of each for under $10 and see which one you like
Yes, the spoons are painted with Alclad Gloss Black Base. Most Metalizer paints require a black base. I believe Alclad makes the best. Check out my Alclad Chrome video, I show it there

@@madosa.customs No thinning necessary. Use it straight out of the bottle. Clean your airbrush with regular lacquer thinner or acetone. I airbrush them at 15 to 20psi. Also for the record, my Mr Hobby Procon airbrush has a built in air valve that let's you adjust the air pressure while your painting. Great feature
You got that right. I'm a lacquer guy without a doubt but I also love paints and supplies and I'm interested in trying them all. But in the end lacquer will always win
Never was a fan of vallejo, the primers are hard to work with, the "Air" lineup is ok for small parts...those results are nowhere near what you did, the vallejo results look like my alclad test- terrible! lol
If a reviewer follows the instructions for using a product wrongly, are they a good reviewer? or just spreading disinformation lol? prime and gloss the base first.
I used Alclad Gloss Black Base as my primer and gloss base. When I contacted Alclads office in Tennessee I asked them about the primer for the black base. They told me the their Gloss Black Base is itself the primer and that I didn't need anything besides the Gloss black base. So since then it's what I use when I spray chrome and Metalizer colors. I keep about 20 spoons painted with the Alclad Gloss Black Base so I'm always ready for testing.

The product worked, with not that much paint even tho I believe you complained about cost, as you then went and kept on spraying and spraying and spraying and spraying. Rewatch your video, look at how little it takes and then when the gloss disappears keep watching as you continue to add more and more paint. Acrylic paint is transparent by nature. The product is good, you just tried too hard to make it look like something it wasn't.

I hear ya. I'm not the biggest Vallejo fan. For my metal colors I prefer Alclad. And after them I like the AK Xtreme Metal line up

Alclad is great. My go to brand for metal colors. Grab a couple bottles of your most used colors and give it a try. You won't be disappointed

valejo is amazing just of the fact it doesent harm like laquer or acryl from tamiya or else. Valejo is realy a good brand,

Allclad looks better for chrome and brass/copper. however, for the steel color I think vallejo looks just a tad better.

No surprise the lacquer paints kind of murder the acrylic. It's hard to compete with lacquer.
How is the durability of the Vallejo’s? In other words do I need to top coat them even if say they are on the bottom side of a model car?

I use now the same vallejo metal paints. What on psi do you flow on the video aproximetly? And what nozzlesize do you spray it?
Here I am using a 3mm nozzle and I run around 15 to 20 psi

What airbrush do you use?
For this video I used my Mr Hobby Procon Boy Platinum. I also use a Harder & Steenbeck Infinity
