    Seriously, thank you for doing these videos. I was pulling my hair out trying to figure out which brand to try as a lot of what was available online was incomplete. I started about 6 months ago trying to adopt a consistent paint system for my metallics and candy coats, and after going through at least 13 different brands of metallics, ended up with Alclad due to price and availability.

      Thanks for the positive feedback. It's always welcome. Alclad is the best paint the not many talk about. Reasonable prices too. I love the stuff. Now I do have more Metalizer paints to test including SMS, Splash & MRP so stay tuned for that. I'm also planning a mega test of every silver paint from every manufacturer, that's going to be fun

    You don't see a difference between the grey primers but I so see a shade difference! But I seem to pick up on subtle shades like this. I will say that the difference is indeed incredibly minor - especially after applying something over it - and your advice to close your eyes and pick one is still solid.
    The gun metal is really pretty! You say you wouldn't use it in large sections but I am sitting here looking at Deathscythe Hell and wondering if gunmetal would be a good paint for the black areas. I thought about black chrome and chrome but I've worried that would be too much shiny and not enough shade differentiation.
    Thank you for demoing the Alclad paints, your videos have been SOO HELPFUL.

    • @barbatosrex9473
      @barbatosrex9473  3 года назад +1

      The gunmetal would definitely look good on those parts of the Deathscythe. I'm considering it for one of my frames, the type where you see parts of it exposed on the Mobile Suit. Thank you for watching my video. More Metalizer colors coming soon, I just got more in the mail 😀

    Although we recommend a Gloss Grey Primer with all our High Shine Plus paints, I personally prefer the Gloss Black Base as my primer. It gives a true mirror finish that I look for on airshow polished aircraft. When you use Alc-600 Aqua Gloss over any metallic, try using a soft wide brush. and paint on the AG in thin coats. This way you will not lose the lustre on the Metals.. Great test as always Sir!. Mark, Alclad 2

    • @barbatosrex9473
      @barbatosrex9473  3 года назад +1

      Thanks Mark for all the advice. It helps me greatly. My most asked question is how to protect the chrome without losing the chrome effect. I get that question the most. Are you saying brush it on instead of airbrushing it ? Is that the best way to go?

    • @grandaduk3
      @grandaduk3 3 года назад

      @@barbatosrex9473 When I want a mirror finish Chrome on my models, I use a very soft wide brush and layer on the Alc-600 in thin coats. This protects the Chrome and helps to keep the lustre.

      Rust-Oleum is canceling the Model Masters line up because Rust-Oleum doesn't want to sell to small hobby shops and that's where Model Master is mostly sold. They only want to sell to big box stores, so with that kiss MM goodbye. Alclad is easily one of my favorite brands. I have another 6 colors to test as I just got them in. Thanks for watching

      Welcome to the channel. It is true, they discontinued Polished Brass. Not sure why. I know they started a distribution deal with Ammo by Mig throughout Europe and I've been checking those to see if it shows up. I do know it's one of their more sensitive colors meaning it rubbed off very easy.

    I love all your videos on alclad. I recently got into gunpla. I painted a part with black gloss base then applied stainless steel over it. Without and clear coat I used tamiya panel liner and it completely took off all the paint like it was thinner. I waited 2 days for drying. People say enamel over lacquer is ok. Has this ever happened to you? Is the metal paints different kind of lacquer?

    • @barbatosrex9473
      @barbatosrex9473  3 года назад +1

      Alclad is a bit different from your standard lacquer. You can tell when you look into the bottle and you see mostly clear fluid with just a tiny bit of pigments on the bottom. So it's pretty sensitive. It's best to coat it with something to protect it if you're going to be adding to it. Enamels are tough to work with when compared to other paints, it's stronger. So I would do either coating it with something, say Vallejo Metal Varnish, Testors Model Master Metalizer sealer or Alclad Aqua Gloss, or switch to a acrylic based panel liner like Ammo Mig panel liner. You could also make your own by thinning a black acrylic paint and use that

      @@barbatosrex9473 thanks for the quick reply. I'll definitely use aqua clear from now on. I love all your videos they really helped me out.

      You never really get that super shine back after clearing it. It's just the way it is. You lose a bit for protection. That said, you can coat it in 24 hours. But I've tried others like Vallejo Metal Varnish and you still lose that awesome chrome shine I just got in a new chrome Gloss coat and I'll be testing it week behind the scenes to see if it works better than Aqua Gloss or others.
