    If youtube and your site was around in the 70's and 80's when I was building as a kid I would have been so much more knowledgeable in painting and finishing a model. Thankfully you are here now and provide so much valuable information for the hobby. I've bought many products based on your reviews and improved by painting. Just ordered a 4 pack of the vallejo metal paints. Nice to have an acrylic alternative that is safer to use. Thanks for this review.

    You hit the nail on the head with the gold having that green tint. Most miniature painters consider gold to be the weakest of the line because they're looking for a richer gold, but if a green-gold is what you're after, this is a solid one.

    One thing I love about this paint is just how opaque it goes on. You need to know going it you won’t be able to do any shading with it whatsoever, but if you’re doing hand painting of details it allows really easy touchups, and it’s easy to fix errors. My favorite line of metal paints. I use Steel on my Gundam frames, and you really need to grab some of the chrome from AA Hobbies when Rich gets more in….I may have tapped them out…

    At 24:25 the paint looks like it took quite a bit of damage from your fingernail? This is more the type of durability testing I would like to see, just flicking it with your finger like you normally do seems like a bad test of durability to me, dragging the fingernail across seems more indicative of strength IMHO.

  • @MrMatthewPR
    @MrMatthewPR 2 года назад

    As you mentioned, the caps are really annoying. I've started taking them off, cleaning them of all paint, stuffing the inside of the nozzle with tac, adding a little vaseline to the outside of the nozzle, and then filling the bit that goes over the nozzle with hot glue. Close it up before it hardens, wait a minute and open. Pull out the tac, wipe off the vaseline, and you have a massively improved seal. It's still not perfect because it's hard to judge the exact amount of glue to use and it sets a little too hard to really smush the nozzle perfectly, but it's still a huge improvement.
    You can also paint these on with a brush. They're actually wonderful for that, as you get very smooth and very high coverage from a single coat.

    My only gripe with the Metal Color range is the lack of colour diversity. Mixing the Copper and Gold paints can get you some nice brown-tone colours, but it'd be nice if they made a new wave of paints with bronze, brass and gold tones, as well as colours in the heat-oxidised spectrum.

    • @lifeinjersey9846

    • @Saand1338
      @Saand1338 2 года назад +1

      @@lifeinjersey9846 Yeah, I agree on that. The gold is a bit too green in its bias. It's good for things that are "real-world" in design, but terrible for anything fantasy-esque where a yellow, stylised gold would be best.

  • @johnblack9885
    @johnblack9885 2 года назад

    The Metal Colors look great with a caveat. I painted my NX-01 with Aluminum and Dark Aluminum and when a clearcoated with Tamiya clear lacquer it made the metal look grey or silver. I guess the trick is to use their recommended clear varnish water based not “hot” but like chrome I’ve learned to simply not apply clear coats at all to preserve the metallic finish. Personally I’ll take Liquid Gold and Liquid Copper over it hands down. I’d love to see you test the GSW Interference paints.

    Where do we get that airbrush gun stand from? The Crome one with quick release…
    Love your videos and did what you said about changing needle & higher pressure for the “ Vallejo paints “ and it works great 👍.
    Thanks 🙏🏻👍👍🙏🏻

      That airbrush stand is made by Hobby Mio and sold at Robot Kai. Unfortunately they are not in stock at the moment. Going to be awhile before they are back in too

    I think what was confusing you was the extra i aluminium instead of aluminum. 🤔

    Question for you. I have a anesty spray booth from amazon, yet my wife and I have our PCs in the same room as a gaming room. Which paints would be best to use that won't be so strong?

    How does these paints compare to the regular lines of Vallejo metal colors (Model Air & Model Color)?

    • @barbatosrex9473
      @barbatosrex9473  2 года назад +1

      These are a completely different formula. The regular Vallejo paints have metal flakes in them, you don't see the flakes in these and that makes them look like actual metal

    The Vallejo website says that they recommend spraying over a gloss black primer. It might in return provide a brighter result??

      @@CFster by all means i wasn't putting down your modeling skills and techniques. My thought process was that metal color would reflect better off a glossy surface than a flat one. Also I definitely love your channel!!! I find myself anxiously waiting for the next video!!!! Happy new year!

      Yes you can, they don't look as good as airbrushing them but for smaller parts it can be brushed on no problem

    Hi, I never used metallics and an airbrush isn't feasible where I live but I really like how metallics look. How much harder would it be to get a similar result with a brush, how does it behave?

    • @barbatosrex9473
      @barbatosrex9473  Год назад +1

      It can be brushed but it doesn't look exactly like this and it's super thin. But it can be brushed on

    • @stevenshea990
      @stevenshea990 Год назад

      It's great for brush-on. Part of what makes brushing metallics a bit of a pain is that they tend to split when you thin them with water. Since they're an airbrush paint, these are pre-thinned and have great flow. A good tip when doing detail work with them is to dab the loaded brush on a paper towel before applying so it doesn't run everywhere.

    Rex, all Iv got left is Vallejo surface primer Gloss black, is it shit? Does it need thinning, will be using Tamiya metallic gunmetal over it. I usually use alclads gloss black primer but ran out and it’s expensive here for a tiny bottle, thanks

    • @barbatosrex9473
      @barbatosrex9473  Год назад +1

      I'm not the biggest fan of Vallejo primer. Thin it slightly,, use the biggest needle you have. Scuff the surface a bit too, that helps it stick

      @@barbatosrex9473 thanks, I’ll run it through my badger patriot 0.5 needle then, using it on sazabi inner frame, didn’t want to mess it up. From memory I don’t like it either, just a bit skint at the moment, so trying to use up the old stuff 👍
