Came here to make a similar comment. Not all metallics are made to be painted over black. But I would also say that using only the top three is a bad idea because these paints already are proven to be good with black.

@@jpf338 Well I simply apply it with a brush over primer,it's actually insane how well it covers everything, straight up just one thin coat is all you need. As for the latter question I highlight it by just doing some color mixing,so you know adding some shades of green and purple to it as glazes and then for the shadows I just mix the bronze paint with bit of black, any black will do but I use Kimera kolors for that.
If you're not a fan of manually painting your shadows or you're painting many models at the same time you could just use a wash and it would be fine.

Shortly after the war, my grandfather made decorative shop windows by hand. It was not like today that you can order everything. So he did everything from scratch letters, posters, decor of the site itself. From my mother's stories, I know that he was just using the kind of gold you presented from green stuff world. In addition, he blown it with a glass tube on the decorated surface, sometimes mixed with various types of medium. In Poland, we call this product "gold", we can call it a gold pigment. You can certainly get these pigments from any well-stocked artist store. Sometimes the best solutions are those discovered long ago, why reinvent the wheel :) At least when you mix paints in this way, you can feel like Leonardo da Vinci creating paint from a combination of pigment and egg yolk. Regards, a very factual review you can learn a lot.

In terms of the 'goldiest' (nice word btw) gold, an example of actual gold to compare the models to might have made for a more definitive or better defined comparison. Thank you, a metallic video without Vince wouldn't be complete. Happy that you tried the greenstuffworld gold pigments mit vallejo metal varnish that gets the Vince approval. I have it but need to check out the mixing ratio again, cause it was a pain to paint with the amounts I mixed. Out of the bottle my favorite is scales necro gold

Talking about gold I really appreciate the retributor armour. But sometimes I gain other variants using different bases and gold on them to variate final results

I was surprised at how poorly the Metal Color did, considering how great my experiences have been with their silvers.
More fuel for the fire of my desire to try more Pro Acryl paints, I suppose. :)

He's not wrong though, the MC gold is dull and lacks the lustre of the scale 75 or the pro acryl. A real step down from their MC other metallics.

@@theinternetofrandomthings7796 Its a white gold. It uses aluminium flakes like all the other VMC colours and I think that won't allow for a rich, yellow gold.

Go on... Gently caress the button... You know you want to and it'll give you GOLD... BUT while being serious with this, I think I might head to the local game shop and grab the Citadel Retributor Armor. It just has a nice poppy yellow gold to it :D

Fascinating test mate. Sooooooo many variations I think I'd still go the colour I want first rather than how it paints out of a brush or airbrush. No point having a colour that goes on well but which you don't actually like the colour of!

Could have used a shot of the paints behind the models +spoons at the end there.
"Which one's your favorite?" I don't know which one it is...
That really dark gold, my first thought was bad, but literally a second later I thought a character with a darker theme, it'd be a way to make it gold without overpowering the rest of the colors.
For a treasury loot, think I'd lean toward one of those orangy golds, with the saturated over color presentation.

For me, nothing will beat Vallejo Liquid Gold. Transfer some into a dropper bottle along with a dropper of isopropyl to keep it wet and it's really not that much of a pain to use.

One thing I would say about it is that it's better as a highlight for a darker gold with some red or green. It doesn't cover that well on its own in my experience.

tbh is it really that big of a surprise? retributor gold has essentially been the only gold of worth for GW and while it really does come out flaky it's also really easy to use. I use it as a warm undercoat sometimes to my better golds.

I'd say Pro Acrylic won then as mixing the powder can have a lot of mixed results for people. Especially if they have never worked with paint in a powder before.
With pro Acrylic you get the gold right out of the pot and it looks good without as much user errors.

Your test is basically reflecting my own opinion and tests. I tried many gold because I wasn't happy with many gold once I applied them with brush.
GSW Pure Gold is by far my favorite, followed by Citadel Retributor and, close enough, Scale 75.
The GSW Pure Gold is a delight when it comes to paint trims and details on a miniature with a brush. You don't have to make multiple passes. One stroke is often enough to have excellent coverage.

I used to get good results with Alclad 2
Especially on a glossy black undercoat

    • @MosoKaiser
      @MosoKaiser 3 года назад

Was just scrolling down the comments if someone had mentioned Alclad yet. Their mirror finish variant metallics look positively insane when airbrushed on a properly prepared gloss black surface. They might not be that ideal for (gaming) miniature painting though, reportedly not being the most durable of paints and any protective clear coatings diminishing the effect.
