I was jumpin and cheerin like I was there! What can you say about Rush that hasn't been said? To me they're on par with the Beatles, or better. They created gifts to humanity with their songs. We love RUSH
I couldn't understand why they disparaged their own mid to late 80s albums. Power windows and hold your fire are still my all time favorites. Let the synth haters hate imo.
Alex has always been pretty adament on leaving that Rush sound behind. He really wanted to push them away from the synth heavy, jazzier and softer sound of PW and HYF. Another big thing, I just can't see them doing those albums justice unless Geddy busts out the ole' Wal Mk1 again. They have gone back to a few PW songs over the course of the last few tours (I think Big Money, Marathon and Manhattan Project).
This is one of my happy songs I listen to when I'm sad and being used by people, my favorite Rush song, thank you Rush for helping me find my smile again, RIP Mr Peart
OCT 1985. I was desperate, sick & alone. Then the #marathon happened. It took a year to awaken to #recovery but the music of RUSH's Power Windows inspired me to stay alive. Thank you #RUSH
I'm going through a problematic spine fusion recovery. Listening to RUSH gets me outside walking again. Power Windows was my first RUSH concert when I was seventeen. I miss them incredibly!
Same here elmer goad , i was a very unwell kid in hospital in Scotland in 1977 when i discovered RUSH through my brother , all that magical creativity and musical genius made me want to carry on , i was 19 before my issues were resolved and these 3 gents were with me the whole time R.I.P. Neil , you,ll never know how much you helped me to carry on , tragic what happened in your own life , there will never be a phenomenon like Rush ever again . I,m now 55 and still love them
Frankly, this is one of the best songs I've ever heard. I love Rush, whether old-school hard rock Rush or later, synthy Ruh, I don't care - they're simply incredible artists who make epic music.
Love it or hate it: Power Windows was one of the best produced Rush albums. PS - I know Lifeson didn't like the 80s synth era of Rush, but damn some of his solos (especially on PW) are absolutely beautiful.
Indeed.... He did some great ones before, but on Power Windows, just take the masterpiece that is "Emotion Detector" : bass, drums and guitar all make "solos" that are astounding... but Lifeson's melodic part in the instrumental section is plendid, very well crafted... on Marathon, Grand Designs, and later on, on the great Hold Your Fire : Mission, Turn The Page and many other songs on those two albums alone. I mean there are structured, melodic... This is what I like in a guitar solo, most often. What is great on those albums is the drum playing, absolutely perfect, astounding. At one point, when I wasn't listening to the melody I was listening to the bass and drums on those albums... this is what makes the tracks progressive and sometimes complicated to play, especially if Geddy had to sing at the same time !
I don't think he disliked the 80s music per se, I think they are proud of the vast majority of their work (although both he and Geddy dislike Tai Shan), but at the time he got tired of having to play around the synths.
My own Rush journey had started with their 80's albums, and 'Grace Under Pressure' was my very first Rush impression, in '89, and I was instantly hooked already after hearing the opening song, 'Distant Early Warning'! So no, I'm sorry, but I won't fight you! 😄😉
And yet even during the "synth era", the guitar still carried the soul and emotion of the music, those songs would have been nothing without the guitar.
I remember hearing this song for the first time in 85. I loved it then, and it's a life anthem to me now. Word's of wisdom to last a lifetime, in a few moments. Thank you Rush.
Just came to relisten to this song after watching the My Effin Life Q&A in Toronto where Geddy said that this is actually his favourite RUSH bassline, and you're absolutely right it friggin slaps
Glad I wasn't the only one who noticed. Very disappointing and that was the climax of the song too!! I used to crank up the volume on it back in the day because I thought it was very important that the neighbors hear it. :)
Man, oh MAN I am sooooo in love with this era of Rush…everything is balanced on here live & in the original versions from the album..it is where they blissfully rose to the heavens and soul. Miss my Neil Peart so much! And yes Geddy is good looking here!! (Alex too!)
This song changed my life for the better. THANK YOU RUSH!!! How prophetic this song has become. Rush never burned themselves out. They are brothers who gave each other time and space as needed. They ran a 40+year marrathon and bowed out gracefully. Neil has passed into olympus, as most tales of old. To the city of imortals, marble white and pure as gold. GOD BLESS RUSH
Glad I wasn't the only one who noticed. Very disappointing and that was the climax of the song too!! I used to crank up the volume on it back in the day because I thought it was very important that the neighbors hear it. :)
Every time the line "One Moment's High..." comes in, I get deeply emotional. I sing it at the top of my lungs and I almost end up in tears. I have never been able to explain it. Thanks for the great music, Rush. "[...]]Music speaks through many voices, in many dialects." - R. Fripp
I was too young at the time to see the Signal album tour but….I made it for the Power Window tour, my first RUSH concert, and this song…. Will never stop loving the Power Window Album.
RIP Pratt. A Show Of Hands is in need of a BluRay remaster. The concert is flawless and I’d love to see the missing songs, Subdivisions, Limelight, D.E.W. Lock & Key, etc... and a reinstatement of Alex’s rant into Strangiato.
Never understood the dislike for synth peroid. Listened to everything from Signals to Hold You Fire upon hearing of Peart's passing, and loved each and every record. Yes, synths are there, but Lifeson is in no way quieter or less prominent. Songs are splendid, super melodic. So far - Rush synth period is my favourite...
I like how Lifeson uses the cavernous arena's acoustics to augment the guitar sound. A lot of artist get swallowed by an arena but Rush turned them into dream worlds.
This is is one of my favorite songs of all time. The words have resonated with me since I first heard it decades ago. The of course it's Rush so the music is superb. Wow. Humans can be divine.
I've seen my fair share of live performances but nothing, nothing compares to rush in my opinion. I thank my big brother for his influence and introducing me to the best trio to ever live.
My older brother also introduced me! He had his friends Moving Pictures record in 1981. I was only 8! loved the cover and when he wasn't home I played the whole record. Hooked ever since. We saw R40 together in Toronto. Magnificent!
I first saw the band live during the Presto tour, this song featured prominently in the set list at the time. The feeling of momentum is so strong during this tune.

Rip Neil Peart. Who personified the phrase, "a light that burns twice as bright burns half as long". He was an extraordinary drummer, lyricist, and man. Even after all this time I've been a state of disbelief that he's gone.
Another positive, inspiring work of art from the masters. I very much remember Rush's music getting me through some rough times back in the day. Music that tells you to pick yourself up and keep fighting. Nice. Sad that there isn't as much of that that mindset around nowadays, the focus seemingly having shifted to letting feelings and resentments reign supreme, expressions of frustration and discontent without a willingness to get up out of the mud and carry on....
This group helped shape me I floundered between music genres for a long time when I heard this one I'd always heard of Tom Sawyer however show of hands live album was like a religious experience to me. Real fan since 1987
Same 😔 I’m 10 years old, my dad introduced them to me when I was 8. They inspired me to play guitar. My dad has a ton of discs from them, a Geddy Lee signature bass guitar, and multiple books about them. I actually stumbled across one of Neil Pearls books at a bookstore last year! But I can never see a show by them :( Long live rush!
This song is one of the most uplifting songs I’ve ever heard. Thank God for Rush.

Fortunately Big Money, Marathon & Manhattan Project (and Territories!) are among my favorite post-Moving Pictures Rush songs!
Arya Nabavi Agreed, but don't count out signals, that's where they really started experimenting with Synth

Love every stage of Rush, period. This song is such perfection.
Incredible song, and Neal Pearts drumming is superhuman.
