Tht was my first Rush show too - myself, one of my brothers and one his friends (who hd travelled on the ferry from Ireland for it) got gig nd coch trip tix and travelld from Manchester where we lived. We used to live in Ireland until I was 15 and this was my first ever proper gig as well as first Rush gig - I was equally scared and excited and found it quite surreal to see Nel, Alx & Geddy right in front f me as I've loved Rush snce I was about 11 but they never came to Ireland. That was until 2011 and I did go to that one and only gig they ever played in Ieland (at the 3Arena in Dublin - Time Machine Tour). I'm a bass player cos of Geddy (got my frst one at around 14) and when they released the show I was at on A Show of Hands I played to death and decided to learn every sone on it. I can play some note fo note, not so much on others, well, cos it's Geddy !!! 🙂
I was there, and at Wembley on the same tour and it was an absolute blast - Rush at the peak of their powers were a privilege to experience. And Big Money was the all time BEST show opener..........period.
this was an awful era of concert video editing, where each frame is like 1/2 second or less. What an amazing performance. Super enjoyable just to play loud while you do something else.
I can never get enough Rush! Thank you for posting this! Such a joy on Christmas Eve to hear Getty, Alex and Neil. Especially the older songs that remain timeless in our hearts.
One marker of great entertainers is having fun while performing. Rush always seemed to have fun on stage while producing some of the most incredible music ever. Long live the Kings!
Really no need to utter words. Just listen and wonder at the skills and imagination that ooze from this unique TRIO. Lie back and enjoy some REAL magic....................................................................Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!!
My brother was at the Glasgow gig and described it as a near riot. I was too young to go (only 14) but was able to see them on the following tours….some of the best gigs I’ve ever seen!
Geddy is a freak of nature. There are great bassists , singers , and keyboard players out there. But to jump back and forth between the three while playing the bass parts he plays is nuts.
My first Rush concert to see in 1988. I was just getting into rush about this time. Went with some rush fans who were a bit older than me, they were not happy that Rush did not tour the UK on grace under pressure and power windows tours. But they agreed Rush more than made up for it on this uk hold your fire tour. Happy memories
I saw this at the forum la. did lots of boogar sugar woke up in mission beach and i was never the same .phoenix before the last show!! every tour great times with rush
A version of a perfect world would find those who have used their lives to their best possible achievements and they should be granted the gift of not immortality, but of suspending their age at the pinnacle of perfection so that they may decide when they have finished what they began. The level of skill, perfection and passion of each and every one of Rush, Geddy, Alex and Neil have moved us and inspired us for generations. If i may dote on Neil Pert for a moment, I remember listening to 2112 for the first time, looking at the album's artwork and credits, trying to separate stem and seed from flower when I landed on "Lyrics By", and I was completely blown away, equally again and again as the years went by they bringing so much genius in music. To look at him behind his kit, so serious, so focused, almost detached, to think that such deep thoughts run through his mind, telling story after story often in prose and a "read between the lines" style, epic. RIP Neil. What you accomplished with your friends, your peers, has made you and they legends written on the studio walls. Much Love.
I had this on VHS when it came out. I saw them in 82 and 83 (signals and GUP) First time hearing them was 2112 on 8track that people were passing around in 77. Good stuff and good memories!
I saw this tour several times in the Southern California area. Eleven years after my first rush show in 1977, the A Farewell to Kings tour. I miss these guys something awful. I was privileged to see them 87 times. It wasn’t enough.
I had the VHS of this when I was in college - I wore it out I played it so much - then made sure I went to see them when they came to the UK on the Roll the Bones tour (and every subsequent UK tour)
I had this on VHS as a teenager and it played endlessly in the family room (when possible - ha). I feel like I know every frame. An incredible document of Rush at one of the heights of their powers. Still have that VHS (and the cassette tape)…
I remember this gig really clearly because I got a puncture in the back tire of my GSX750 on the M62 while riding back to the parent's place in Formby.
I was there too right at the front and my brother pushed me out of the way when the camera came by, he got on the video and I didn't, never forgiven him lol.
The version of Subdivision is so much better than the studio version. Fullness, nerve... There's a reason why ASOH is probably my most played CD. The improv ending of "Closer to the heart" is the chefs kiss!
hot take-this is rush at their high water mark. this show (and accompanying album) is the best this band ever played on tape. i always found 70-early 80s peart to be very clunky and stiff. his chops are smooth and off the charts on the power windows and hold your fire materiel. this is their "steely dan" era.
Isn't this the Show of Hands video from the Hold Your Fire tour? I still have the laserdisc of this show and went to one of the Wembley shows. I miss these times.😢
Anyone ever notice that in the editing of Rush's live videos, so little time is given to Geddy's playing? I'm not talking "Oh, there's Geddy." I'm talking up close and personal with what his hands are doing, like they do with Alex and Neil. It happens, but it's so infrequent.
I remember watching this on vhs with my roommate in college. Super cool. Watching it now: great playing but instruments need to be changed. Not a fan of that chorusy, thin guitar sound and geddys fender is greatly missed. Keys and drums sound great😉👍
Just got finished with Ged's book. A great, great read. But I was surprised to find out Gershan was quite the coke-head. Oh well, like the lyric goes.....illusions are painfully shattered right where discovery starts. RASH!
Power Windows was a very consistent album. So was Grace Under Pressure, but it didn't have a Big Money on it. Test for Echo was their worst. The vocal melodies were just bad to mediocre.
Someone should have told he producers that this is a concert, not a music video for MTV. Christ this thing is hard to watch. More damn cuts than my depressed ex boyfriend.
It's Neil... They never substituted another drummer throughout their entire careers... Maybe you haven't seen them in this period.... I think they were a little influenced by the fashion sense of what was going on in 1988,but that's where the similarities ended...
Awful what many great bands did to themselves, their sound, the annoying synths, drumcomputers, already dated the moment it was released. Yeah, I see they still did old stuff. Having to wait for those must have been like going to a slow sadistic dentist.
@@analogkid4557 what do you mean? The video footage of Subdivisions, Distant Early Warning, Time Stand Still and part of the Rhythm Method don’t exist.

Not to mention GUP, their most guitar heavy album. I pity you since I have an entire decade of rush to still enjoy while you guys sit and pout
They sucked so bad at this point. Look at them. Sellouts. Trendy. They were taylor swift. They were a boy band. Absolute garbage. Just like flock of seagulls.
They definitely didn't stay static like other bands such as the Rolling Stones or AC/DC but if they hadn't grown as musicians and refined their approach to songwriting, there never would have been a Moving Pictures. Yes, they kept on going but I can honestly say that growing up in the 1980's, I found something on every single album back then I liked and their last 3 albums were absolute BANGERS which all of their years together contributed towards. They were each very gifted musicians and I can't fault them for trying to keep up with the times. Otherwise, they would have just been another old band that played tribute to themselves. Rush wasn't like that. They always had new material to play along with their classics.
@@Brent-y1x exactly! And they kept making music because they WANTED to, and because they had awesome ideas, not because they just wanted more money. If you compare them to other bands, they’re some of the most honest and humble guys in the music business.

For me is a wonderful concert very good filmed!
You just hate high frame rates?
Yes, videos from late 80’s and 90’ are annoying like stroboscopes. Switching scenes before you are able to look at it properly.
Unfortunately it's still a thing with some recent filmed concerts I've seen.
I agree.
Just stellar, have probly watched the DVD a few hundred times, just never gets old. Ahhh the days when bands had REAL talent.
