- Whew that's a long-ass title! But the title says what's on the tin, and if that's what you need to learn how to rig, then I hope you find part 1 informative!
Please feel free to download the sample rig geometry, and a finished version of the rig for your reference!

This was exactly what I needed to start formalising my understanding of mechanical rigging. I recommend the entire series to anyone looking to build an understanding.
Thank you for your recommendation kind sir :)
That's Awesome.
Thanks a lot😍
indeed, it is the best rigging tutorial so far.
Echoing the sentiment of others, it's so good to have someone actually explaining the basic aspects of armature, what they mean and how to manipulate them. Thanks!
I'm not 5 minutes into this video and I already have more noob-friendly info than I gained from the five previous videos I clicked on. Subbed.
yeye, none of the other tutorials mentioned you have to be in edit mode
this is soo much better than people who teach you as if you are already experienced enough to understand what is happening
Just discovered Dikko's channel and it's a goldmine for anyone interested in 3D modeling! From character design to animation and rigging, the insights and tutorials are top-notch. Highly recommend for anyone looking to dive deeper into 3D arts. 🌟 #3DModeling #Dikko. Excellent video tutorials. Score 10/10.
This was the most comprehensive rigging tutorial I've ever seen in my life.
Finally a person who explains things instead of telling where to click
This is literally the most useful rigging tutorial for blender. Thanks for making such an awesome video explaining all the essential theories
My pleasure :)
Bruh you are a life saver! I learned rigging in Maya and have been switching my workflow over to blender because it's more affordable. I'm so happy you're going over specifics like bone orientation and broke everything down. It's so helpful for transferring my knowledge from other programs into Blender.
Finally. A tutorial that runs at a sensible pace.
I hope he does not speed up in later ones.
Nice pace and clear voice.
Well done.
This is the video I had been looking for! Thank you for making it! I appreciate you breaking down the concepts and showing great examples. I know how to rig in Maya and was looking for a video that just broke down the rigging conventions of Blender.
I've been watching Blender tuts all day, and I'm really glad I finally found this one. Your pacing, clear explanations, and the overall tone was VERY helpful and I'm so glad that you didn't go a thousand miles an hour like so many other creators do. It made it way easier to follow along on a second monitor. Subbed based on this video alone. You are the real MVP.
Hands down the best rigging tutorial I have seen. No other tutorials went into the bones being all part of the same object which cleared up some things for me.
I have always found it difficult to understand all the mechanics of rigging. Until now! thank you very much for the clear and objective explanation. Finally i can deepen my knowledge on how the rigging system works. Excellent work
This is the most in-depth explanation that I have found on almost anything in blender. Good job, even tho you didn't get as many views as you should I would really appreciate you continued making content such as this.
Thanks man! The channel is quite new so I'm planning quite a bit of new content in 2020 :)
Can’t wait
by far the clearest tutorial I've seen yet
thanks!
this is quality (especially when you consider there are guys charging $ for crappy courses on udemy which don't match the tutorials you're releasing for free)
many thanks for sharing your knowledge
subbed
Dude you clearly have the best videos out there. Every question raised in my head is answered almost instantly is crasy. Thank you so much!
Wonderful job describing these basic things that I needed to learn. I feel like this is exactly what I needed to get me moving in the right direction for proper animation. Thank you!
Man i love your videos. Every time i look something up your always pop up. thanks a lot
Subbing to you was one of my best moves of 2019, thank you! (small suggestion, should add blender 2.8 to title for the extra new traffic checking out blender lately!)
Thank you for the incredibly kind words :). Thanks for the suggestion as well!
Thank you very much for a beginner's tutorial on rigging!
This is especially helpful for me, who has a decent amount of experience modeling, but basically no rigging experience.
This is a really good overview, the best I have found in a day of looking!
thank u so much for making this, and the blender file u made public was a huge help too
This is the most esscental tutorial for beginners. Thank you so mutch.
I really appreciate how you demonstrated this, thank you!
you explain everything in a very perfect way, thank you,
Really well paced and explained thoroughly. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Hey man seriously thank you for this amazing series. Hope this channel grows, subbed :D
Cool video! I love the way Blender organizes its rigging tools. There are a lot of advantages to having a distinct object/pose mode.
When I talk about the orientation of the bones, I tend to use the terms Roll (for Y axis), Pitch (For X Axis) and Yaw (For Z-Axis). I think that makes it a little less ambiguous, especially when naming mechanism bones.
I'm working on an addon that adds a lot more features to Blender's armature edit mode, and once I find the time to continue writing it, add new features to constraint editing in pose mode. It's called ChainTools, and it's on Gitlab.
I wish I had found this when I was first learning blender.
Excellent tutorial. Thanks for the depth of explanation.
Thank you for explaining this without the riggify addon, I wanted to learn the basics.
I downloaded the geo only version and learn a lot just examining how you modeled it. i tried to do my best version of it but tailored it to the size and shape of things i need it on. thanks for the great model and tutorial
awesome stuff :). Yeah its great to build something yourself with something to refer to on the side
instant sub, what a pearl among tutorials
Hope You are a good choice (I'm going to work through all your videos about RIGGING). Im begginer in blender.
finally a pure rigging general tutorial
Thank you for an amazing tutorial for beginners. Really appreciate it
thank you sir, this is a very good introduction
PERFECTION! I am subscribing and gonna follow for more amazing tutorials! Thanks Dikko
Excellent tutorial on rigging and armatures! Just what I needed for my next project. You provide just the right amount of detail an explanation for beginners as well as advanced people to better understand the concept of rigging... kudos
Thanks for all the animation tutorial. Hope this channel will grow in the future. Keep making videos that help the community :)
Thanks for the detailed explanation to the armature system in blender!
My pleasure :)
very clear and accessible. thank you!
Thx a lot for explaining the bone roll and specify the global/local space, I really appreciate it! ;)
My pleasure, I was wondering if it was enough information, so I'm glad you found It useful!
Amazing. I watched a few paid tutorials, and they was much less clear and detailed. You made +1 animator to this universe, i hope :)
Very detailed! Thank you very much!
This is amazing you are an amazing teacher
ONLY 5 MINUTES / exellent work...de luxe!, continue...THANKS FROM ARGENTINE...

Thanks for this! Newbie here in blender
This is perfect, thank you!
You are great!! Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge
I'm totally new to this, so your guide is perfect. The content is pretty dry, but as you say: persevere! Many thanks for putting this together. With greetings from Cape Town.
Very detail, thank you👍
Excellent tutorial and so clean explanation :-) Thank you !
No worries, thanks for watching!
Amazing tutorial, Thanks for sharing
You’re welcome 😊
Thank you for this really thorough tutorial. It really helped me! Consider ditching the reverb on your voice though, as it's very distracting. Good work!
"Selecting the shaft of the bone". But really; was a needed catch up, watched it a year ago and totally forgot everything due to early onset distraction of life.
Dude! You are good man and teacher i hope so you progress and make a lot of money
Great explanations! :)
I am facing a problem with rigging. I created a character with a single objective. And then added bone and parented. But when I exit blender and return Again everything gets massed up. I don’t know why is this happening. I need some help here pls
Thanks a lot , perfectly explained !
Subbed. Can you do a box rigging tutorial, where the flaps can be animated?
you earned my sub
Thanks mate!
@@Dikko nw.... i honestly think you're underrated. You r 1 of the only people who show these stuff.I always wanted to learn animation. Till now i only to modelling but maybe i should give animation a chance.
this is reale awesome!
Wow, thank you! Very useful :)
WOW, great video Thanks Dikko man this stuff is kind of confusing when we were getting into the rotation and you were talking about global and local access. I was wondering when the bone was at the 0X, OY, 0Z and you were rotating it on the z-axis you referred to it as a twist. Then a little later the same movement could be achieved using the field called ROLL I was wondering if this was like a slip of the tongue calling it a twist or do they have really have anyways thanks for a great video I really appreciate it I am just going to keep watching the series till it sinks in
is there a way to bind specific parts of a model to specific bones?
Although it is low, the underline music is disturbing.
YOU'RE THE FUCKING BEST MAN!!!
Thank you!
Hi! Beginner here. :) This is actually a bit confusing (very confusing actually). When people make tutorials for beginners, they end up not doing it. Lol A beginner doesn't know how to do much (let alone with certain terms mean because we literally just started). I literally just started and didn't understand about 85% of the video.
Then I suggest you take a few steps back and check out the introduction to blender series on the Official Blender channel :)
What if I can't get the armature object to appear at all?
gonna do this tomorrow but thanks in advance
Hello I have a question though... Why is the vertical axis of the bones Y while the world and meshes have it as the Z axis?
can u help me download the asset, I cant figure it out? also is it really free, or do I have to pay?
Good video!
Thanks Dikko. Subscribed
No worries, thanks for subbing!
Sir can u make a course on 3d animation plz?
If you would add timestamps for this video that'd be really great :D
nice video, thanks
No problem!
When I clear transformations in object mode, the origins go to the World Origin. This seems to cause a problem with Mirroring around an object and snapping the cursor to the center of the active object. How did you circumvent this problem? It didn't seem to happen to you in these videos.
if you want to snap the 3d cursor to the centre of an object that has cleared transforms, just go into edit mode, select all, then snap the cursor to the selection.
@@Dikko You rock Dikko. Thanks for getting back to me.
music in the intro?
Thanks
Very usefull, this tutorial. Thanks man.
My pleasure! I'm glad you found it useful
I think I just struck gold

Sometimes the problems are staring right in front of you
amazing....
Thanks!
hey just a little request for next time, please consider making the music a bit softer while you are speaking, it's distracting
Thanks for the feedback :)
