Maybe it’s just because I was young but back then there was something in the air that felt exciting and dangerous. Music like this ruled the airwaves. Going to the beach in the summer and walking into head shops seeing all the band Tshirts hanging and hearing bands like Alice In Chains blaring over the stereo is something I’ll never forget and will probably never experience again.

Just the absolute top of his game. Unbelievable vocals from Layne here... I forget who spoke of it, but I often recall someone stating that he could hear Layne's voice over the music and monitors at some points. The sound from his throat was so strong that he could overtake what came from his monitor!

    • @kevincoady5248

Barrett Martin drummer for screaming g trees n Mad Season said he could hear his voice from his chest louder than out of monitors. Insane!
Mark Lanegan said Layne would stay up for days and go out and unleash the most powerful vocals he has ever heard, on par with Mercury n plant in his opinion and he has seen them all live.
      He was awesome!

I can never remember who said this, either. I don't know if I've read the comments in this thread before, or if I've seen the same quote you saw haha. I'm pretty high right now, so that's not helping anything, but I swear I've heard that Layne's voice could be heard over the monitors or from the side of the stage before. I kinda felt like maybe it was Tom Morello who said it, but the next comment said Barrett Martin. Guess he would know between the Screaming Trees being out with AiC, and Mad Season.

AIC is not the biggest band of the era, but they are the best. If Layne wouldn’t have lost himself, they could’ve been the greatest ever. I put a lot of blame on the media for how they portrayed layne and AIC.
Layne Staley is one of the greatest rock vocalists ever, his range and control are unbelievable and nobody can make you feel the emotion of the song like he could.
Freddie Mercury had the greatest voice and was the best performer.
Chris Cornell had the most powerful voice in rock.
All of them legends, all of them lost far too soon, all of them loved and missed dearly. May the Legends RIP...

AMAZING!! I’ll never forget it was 1990... my older sister had a cassette from the band I never heard of called “Temple of the Dog“. I was 13 years old and I had no idea what to think other than it sounded like nothing else I’d heard before and from there I went to either Sam Goody or Tower Records I’m not exactly sure and I bought the Facelift album... and from that point my life literally changed! Once I heard Laynes voice I felt emotions I’ve never felt...and 28 years later his voice still evokes all kinds of emotions... believe it or not those songs got me through some tough times and continue to do so! I was hooked... And still am! The Temple of the dog cassette opened up a whole new world of music for me and I hate to think what my life would be like without Alice In Chains,Soundgarden, Mad Season, Mudhoney, Screaming Trees... Nirvana...

Nooo, please tell me you're kidding. Lollapalooza doesn't have those types of "artists" do they? I grew up in the early 90's and remember when Lollapalooza was the tour event everyone was talking about cause all of the great BANDS from that time were playing it. Nirvana was supposed to headline for crying out loud and now it's Cardi fucking B? I mean if that's the type of music people like, then that's great but Lollapalooza is supposed to be a rock and roll tour. It's always been synonymous with bands, especially this era. Anyway, obviously I'm not following what's hot musically now days as processed music is about as good to me as a McDonalds processed meat. Sad day for me.
