    Being Norwegian, I must admit I was hoping Magnus would win. That being said, I was impressed with the gentlemanly conduct of Anand, who to me seems to be a thoroughly sympathetic and decent chap. His record speaks for itself, and he will always be among the greats in world chess history.

    • @Kulumuli
      @Kulumuli 11 лет назад +8

      I am also Norwegian. I think it was a greater loss for Anand than it would have been for Carlsen, given the excitement in India over the match. It looks like it was great sportmansship from both of them and it looks like the event in Chennai was very well carried out. I expected it would be a closer match. I respect both Anand and Carlsen deeply.

    Anand, please don't apologize. You accomplished so much. Take a step back. The tension, the pressure, forget it. Look how far you've pushed the understanding of something as complex as chess. My hats to you, and please try not to feel bad.

  • @brianbernstein3826

    what ridiculous questions for Anand… they may as well have been 1) what was it like to get destroyed? 2) you feel really horrible don't you? 3) which game did you screw up the most in? 4) are you going to apologize to India? Just totally unnecessary and disrespectful… was agonizing to watch. He clearly has a knife in his side right now, is it really necessary to twist it? Give the guy a break… he is a SPECTACULAR player… we are all human, we all lose sometimes. Life goes on.

      Ivica Čajavec I also don't like how they say it is the dawn of a new era of chess, as if "out with the old, in with the new." Like Anand is some old broken down automobile that's being replaced by a shiny red ferari. Im no expert on these events but couldn't Anand end up refacing Carlsen next year and possibly retake the title? What would the announcers say then, "this ushers in an old day for chess, where the old generation will make old rules, set old boundaries, like the world has already seen before!!!"

    • @securuslol
      @securuslol 11 лет назад +2

      John Dykes I think he still could have a chance if he really commited, he's still not too old. He maybe has become lazy I think or even tired. I mean, he has been playing in the top since the 90s, to be honest I would also be tired. Speaking of talent alone, I think Anand is still top three in the world right now, but he has to put in a lot of work to even consider regaining the title. I hope he does, but if he decided to retire from chess soon, I couldn't blame him.

      when you step in and play the game you play with everything you got, i saw that Vishy Anand did few mistakes or moves that could have been better.. but u sit there so long and even just sitting there is tense and adrenaline pumping trough ur body.. just like playing casino.. u dont move ur body.. but u feel it in ur body.. its a real tough mental sport and i'm pretty sure Vishy Anand will learn from his mistakes and come back stronger. Its not a shame to loose versus a such good player..

      Anand is still one of the greatest chess player in the world. Even Kasparov and Kramnik surrendered before him. Carlsen must win WCC 5 times and must get atleast 6 Chess Oscars to match Anand's position in Chess. He may be World No. 1 but as a personality he is no match to Anand. Also Anand is literate and has a Bachelor of Commerce degree but Carlsen is not even Matriculation pass. That makes a difference.

    My love for chess has been renewed thanks to RUclips and aicfofficial for providing me the great honour to witness this championship half a world away from the comfort of my home. I extend special thanks to the legacies both world champions have inspired and will set for this and future generations across the globe. Without the expert commentaries supplied by the IMs and GMs, I never could have come close to appreciating the depth of the plausible strategies employed during the match despite being an avid chess player myself. GM Susan and IM Tania looked beautiful each wearing a traditional Indian sari during the final game. Perfect touch to cap off an event like no other! It truly is a beautiful game.

    The 2013 World chess Championship has revived interest in chess. For a long time, I have not heard any reports from news channels such as the BBC, Deutche Welle or VOA, etc) about chess. There is interest in Chess in Africa. We have a Chess Federation in Ghana that organizes tournaments form time to time. I hope this enthusiasm and initiatives would be sponsored to better heights to truely world class levels

    Thanks for loading this press conference. I've got to confess that I like both Vishy and Magnus. They are both fine chess players and decent men. The conference was revealing in that Vishy said that he tried a strategy which didn't work. It is an honest assessment. The page of chess history has now turned. Magnus is the champion. Well done to him and Norway.

    Magnus' rating has to be close to, if not above, 2900 w/ this victory. He looks pretty much unbeatable and might be world champion for at least a decade. It might be time to start talking about Magnus w/ the all time greats.

    • @ZoeTheCat
      @ZoeTheCat 11 лет назад +5

      I have zero doubt that he will be regarded as the greatest of all time if and only if he maintains his hunger for chess. Look at Fisher. After achieving his one goal, he was done with it.

    • @DvorskaRocks
      @DvorskaRocks 11 лет назад

      I don't think Magnus' Elo rating can increase too much more because he's so far ahead that beating players ranked below him by at least 80 points will have only a negligible effect if any on improving his own rating. His rating would jump noticeably quickly if he could beat higher-rated players but they simply don't exist.

    • @splendorverse
      @splendorverse Год назад +1

      Being from the future: You were pretty much correct 😂 He's now definitely among the all-time greats if not the greatest of all time. He held the World Chess Champion title for 10 years and he got so bored he decided not to defend it anymore. As of right now, Ding Liren's the new champion after a fascinating battle with Ian Nepo.

  • @DvorskaRocks

    Press conferences viewed by the world conducted immediately following hours of intense mental battle would certainly challenge the rest of us especially when presented in a foreign language. Diplomacy, etiquette and sensitivity may be difficult to balance with wanting to identify the honest yet very intriguing cold hard facts about the players themselves. Winning or losing on the world stage with $2.55 million purse split 60 victor/40 vanquished while negotiating a mine-field trying not to say anything which could be miscontrued as offensive to anyone is tough for most. Interviews are meant to reveal interesting facts. Ms. Karlovich is to be commended for starting with open-ended questions where each player can reveal anything he chooses to say whether about the game, match or whatever. She was stellar in showing sensitivity to Anand by rebuking a reporter's comment suggesting a new era has begun despite the non-concluded match at the time. Magnus too showed his maturity remarking about needing to be correct this time regarding the reported comment.
    How ironic is it to leave blood at the chess board only to walk to a figurative chess board, i.e. press conference and restrain the beast you've just unleashed moments earlier?! That's the hallmark of a world champion... in my book anyway!

    It's kind of wierd these press conferences. I love them, don't get me wrong, but in many cases, the thought processes and decision making over a chess board can't be summarized in a pithy soundbite we've come to expect from ESPN style interviews.

    • @PrincessPaleface
      @PrincessPaleface 11 лет назад +1

      I agree with you. I enjoy watching them, but it seems hard for the players to describe what was going on in their heads in such a brief period of time. I think it's also hard for them to go directly to the press conference from the match, as in most cases they had just played very high level chess for multiple hours and were probably exhausted.

    • @alcubierrevj
      @alcubierrevj 11 лет назад

      Chris Walker
      I do like the fact the players can refer to, and navigate the miniboard while describing the play. I appreciate the fact, though, that while it's not easy to explain all the calculations driving a particular move, the players do make to effort to do so, sometimes crossing a language barrier even. That's real classy and professional of them and I can't wait for the next candidates cycle.

    • @PrincessPaleface
      @PrincessPaleface 11 лет назад

      I definitely agree with you on both points. I'm constantly amazed by how much the players can recall, even days or months later. Sometimes I wish that the players were speaking about the games in their native language with a translation provided, as I feel that would sometimes add to the level of the commentary.

      You can’t blame him for playing 700 ELO less than Houdini. It’s not like you can do better in front of cameras, people and under pressure.

      Um, if you look closely (or not), you can see Magnus is clearly smitten (and elsewhere on videos from the London tournament) and who would not, cause Anastasiya is clever. and his support. she obviously likes him more than Anand haha, look at her body language (omg).

      Diamond Louis XIV No we 125 crore Indians are very Proud to have Mr Viswanathan Anand as 5 time World Chess Champion. He is Brand Ambassodor to India. We all are very happy. In a game we sometimes win or lose. There is no question of him being ashamed of. Only a fool like you will doubt him.

      Dhruvil Purani I respect Anand very much, I don't respect all of these harassing reporters who treat him like he is a loser. The reporters make me believe his country is shaming him.

      Diamond Louis XIV Yes the media people are asking silly questions. Because they are cheap. But that doesn't mean that whole country is ashamed if Mr Anand. Mediapersons are sick and bloody fools. They don't care of anyone except their tv shows.

      Yeah, she doesn't know how to be terse, and her accent is annoying. She totally wrecked the one-on-one interview with Magnus by asking long, jumbled compound questions. Someone needs to fire that bitch. Anand even used that word at 4:02. It was code for her, I suspect.

    Anand must be filling bucket with his tears that's why he left early. He should retire before losing his reputation among his fans. I regret following this whole championship, but well, congrats to Carlsen may be next time he will get a better opponent. The lucky era of Anand got a well deserved end.

      This is the second time I've hear this and it is an insult. Anand was not lucky in his chess career. He won the 2007 Fide tournament, beat Kramnik in 2008 who outside kasparov had the highest elo rating at the time, beat Topalov another strong player. There is no way in hell anyone can achieve this by pure luck.

    • @jasonbmraz8590
      @jasonbmraz8590 11 лет назад +16

      He will NOT lose his reputation among fans. One case is Michael Jordan who came back out of retirement to play for the Washington Wizards. Was Michael Jordan clobbered by the younger generation? Yes, he was. He wasn't the same Jordan from the Bulls. And yet, after Jordan left the Wizards, Jordan is still considered one of the greatest basketball players of all time.
      Anand will still be considered one of the chess greats and he will still have his fans.

      you have no idea to what you are talking about ask Magnus if he thinks anand was a lucky world champion before this world championship im fairly sure that anand had the best record throughout the world vs magnus

      jasonb mraz I see where you're going with this and I agree except I want to point out that Anand isn't Michael Jordan in basketball, he hasn't quite dominated chess in the way that Michael has in basketball, but Anand is still a genius and a great fighter nonetheless, more importantly he is a gentleman, and even though he lost the match, he does not lose respect. There is only one Michael Jordan, but, come on, being Kobe isn't that bad either.

      what a completely disrespectful comment. Anand is a legend… one match does not change that.
