@@magnum4989 When Carlsen lost to Karjakin in 2016 and didn't go to the press conference afterwards, there ended up being some sort of dispute with FIDE, because according to the contract, they could have decreased his prize money by some 10 % or something. I don't know how that story ended, but unless they changed the contract since, attending the press conference is required. So did you read the current contract or are you just guessing?

Now that Ian is down a point in the match each draw brings him closer to defeat. With this in mind the meta of the match has changed and he’s going to have to start fighting for wins harder than ever l. We’re in for some exciting chess. Perhaps we’re going to start seeing some Sicilians and grunfelds

Nepo is a grunfeld player and everytime magnus plays d4, nepo goes for it, but magnus going for the catalan prevents nepo playing the grunfeld. i think its magnus idea not to allow nepo to play what he is familiar with. as for magnus playing the grunfeld, i dont think he'd want to create such a double-edged position with black when he can go for more solid lines.
Yeah, so far it's magnus who was trying to find tricks in position while nepo went on with less risky lines even when he had advantage. My only fear is they'll reverse their styles but output would still be a draw.

Ian really played well: it's incredibly draining to sit at the board for 8+ hours with adrenaline surging, having to consistently find the best move in order to hold a draw. For the first 30 moves or so, he even seemed to have the advantage, and as black at that, so to play for another _hundred_ moves without many winning chances takes immense skill. Not that Magnus played poorly: that was an endgame worthy of Capablanca.
Great sportsmanship from Ian to attend the press conference and answer questions so calmly, and also mad respect to both, they must be so exhausted after an almost 8 hours long crazy chess battle

Yeah, that should be standard. Especially after such a long game asking about Magnus playing Rd1 instead of the idea Rcc2. I'm pretty sure that could apply to many positions and while the players have an insane memory and visualization of the moves, they could go much more in-depth if they and we were shown it. Absolutely no reason not to give them a computer which they can show moves on and which we can see.
Agreed. I know they don't have the production value, but they should try and take cues for how the NFL uses graphics to convey information and make the game more approachable for amateurs. Great game and obviously the coverage overall has been pretty great. Just the increase in production value over the past few championships has been great and very promising for the future of the game.
That's one of the main qualities that separates Magnus from the other Super GM's, Magnus is the only one who keeps fighting when it doesn't look like there is much to be done, he's done it to other GM's, he's tried in the first 6 games here and finally his relentlessness pays off and it's totally worth it.
Except Magnus is the world champ for eight years and world number one for even longer, while Jan is the underdog, going fom "only" world top 40 five years ago and now, very surprisingly, a world top 10 world champion challenger. But yes, in the game you might be right😁

That was not only a insane game, but also a very high level of competition. They could've agreed to a draw a lot of times or made a 3 fold repetition, but they kept playing and trying to find the imbalances to be able to aim for a win. Best game I've ever seen for sure!

Well they usually consider most good moves so it's interesting when a player just skips over an obviously winning move when there aren't even a lot of other choices.

Well he did play d1 instantly so that's why, but that move isn't easy to see without the engine and both Magnus and Nepo didn't see the line that the engine shows there, so like magnus said in the past: Who cares if I missed a line if my opponent missed it aswell.
The Rd1 move is just the difference to playing with or without an engine. No player would ever recognise they should sack their entire queen side to create an attack, it's not just counter intuitive, it's down right insane.
Magnus had like three minutes on his clock at that point. If he had an hour, he quite likely would have noticed it, but to spot that with three minutes to play multiple moves is nigh on impossible.
Korchnoi and Karpov had the record for most draws at the start of a match (7). It was Karpov and Kasparov jointly who held the record for the most consecutive draws.
Ian has the talent and skill to nuke anyone from orbit on the board in any format, hopefully he realizes this and can make it even more exciting, this entire match is crazy.
I love both these players Nepo is a very likeable man I wish him well in his games to come. Magnus must grind through these conference questions with no small personal difficulty from fatigue … but he did well fielding these dry questions Finally - Magnus played his knights in an L shape motion all game long … and so did Ian … The white knight came out on top.
Magnus will have a confidence and morale boost for a while, but Ian definitely is tricky, and when the games head to rapid basically anything can happen.
