    Three or four years ago, I completely rebuilt my grandparents' Whirlpool-made Roper machine. I think it was originally manufactured in January 1997. Mechanically, it was in rough shape -- it didn't spin right, sounded terrible, and had been leaking oil like crazy. Well, with a lot of learning and quite few new parts and seals (surprisingly, the transmission wasn't ruined), it's still going strong today.
    Love your videos, Chip! Keep it up.

    Chip, great video. Easily the best video on repairing a Whirlpool direct drive washer.

    I honestly just worked on 6 of these style washer this weeks. I had 3 really nice looking ones that leaks. And 3 horrible looking one that ran fine. So i just swapped parts instead of replacing seals.

    Hello Chip. Hope you are doing well. Do you know if any of the motors used in direct drive washers have two separate speeds. One for a slow speed spin and one for high speed spin? Thanks.

      @HarperandKnowles  11 дней назад +1

      No, none of them that I know of made before 2012 have multiple speeds for either direction. Thanks for watching.

      @ thanks for your reply. I have a friend with a direct drive washer. He says it spins slow and someone told him the motor had a low speed winding and a high speed winding. I told him to check the clutch.

    Where do you get your snubber pads from Amazon? I haven’t been able to get them to snap on the ones I’ve gotten off Amazon, love the video!

      You can get them from Amazon. Try using a pair of channel lock pliers to snap them on. Just offset the jaws a little bit so the pin will clear the holes. Thanks for watching!

    I used the hammer trick to get my stuck basket out ,but now I can't get the drive block out of the basket

    • @HarperandKnowles
      @HarperandKnowles  3 месяца назад

      It should come off by hammering upward on it.

      No ,it's inside the basket, and I can't get it to come out the bottom

      Oh! Poke it out with a broomstick. It's easy enough.

    I've got a older kenmore direct drive washer that's leaking underneath, but I got the basket out and, there's no cracks or holes in the tub ,could it be leaking at the little black tube that goes to the bottom edge of the tub?

    • @HarperandKnowles
      @HarperandKnowles  3 месяца назад

      I’m not sure what black tube you’re talking about.

    • @aarongrainger2545
      @aarongrainger2545 3 месяца назад +1

      @HarperandKnowles I'm thinking it's called a bleach tube, on some models it's at the top ,sometimes on the bottom and sometimes no tube at all,on mine it's at the bottom

    • @HarperandKnowles
      @HarperandKnowles  3 месяца назад

      The only tubes I know that go anywhere near the bottom are the pressure hose (clear) and the tub to water pump hose (black).

      @@HarperandKnowles mine has a black rubber tube that comes from the top ring and goes through a black grommet in the side of the outer tub

      @HarperandKnowles  3 месяца назад

      Oh, you said the bottom. Yeah that routes the bleach into the tub, it’s too high to cause your leak.

    @HarperandKnowles. Chip was there a reason why when you had transmission case open and changing oil that you did do a maintenance kit on the inners or is that just overkill? thx

    • @jaytyler6203
      @jaytyler6203 2 месяца назад +1

      excuse me 'I meant didn't do a maintenance kit to transmission?

    • @HarperandKnowles
      @HarperandKnowles  2 месяца назад +1

      Yeah, this transmission tested okay except for the contaminated oil. I try to keep cost down as much as possible when flipping a machine and I didn’t see any reason to change it.
