I also changed the idler pulley by retrofitting the old bushing into a new pulley and replaced all thermal cutoff components to ensure the dryer was running safely and efficiently. How to Fix Persistent Out of Balance Issues in Maytag & Whirlpool Washers!
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.Месяц назад
In this video, I tackle two common issues in Maytag Bravos MCT and Whirlpool washers: stripped tub hubs and worn-out splined spin basket inserts. These problems often lead to the motor overspeeding without the basket spinning or cause load balancing issues despite new suspension rods. Using the machine under these conditions will quickly wear out the new linear dampers. I demonstrate how to rem...

Nice repair & nice vid ... Thx
Thanks for watching Eddy!
great video Chip, sorry no Wally, but saw Ruby? My first seeing her. Wow so much rust and wear on that unit. You aways amaze me with your knowledge and creativity.
Yeah Ruby stopped by to say hello. Thanks for your kind words!
Nice video ….that’s a typical dumb South Korean LG (Samdung copycat) design😅💪 I love them guys ….I make tons of money fixing their stuff 😅
Thanks for watching another Ike!
Hi Chip, I could use some help troubleshooting my 20-year old direct-drive Whirlpool washer. It can still agitate and drain properly but hasn’t been spinning correctly when called upon. The clutch appeared worn, so I replaced it and hoped for the best. Since then, the washer can sometimes wash several loads in a row without issues, but then still intermittently fails to spin at times. Here are some clues that I have gathered so far: When the washer enters a spin cycle, it either works properly the entire time or doesn’t spin at all. It doesn’t cut out if it’s working or kick in when it doesn’t spin at the beginning of the cycle. In instances where the washer fails to spin, I can sometimes get it to spin if I advance the cycle to Extra Rinse or another wash mode. Typically, I just use Normal or Permanent Press, so if it fails to spin in one, I can usually just change modes to make the washer happy again. There have also been times where is alternates between spinning properly for one spin cycle, doing nothing for the next, and then working properly again without intervention. Can you recommend any additional troubleshooting steps to help narrow down the issue? My best guess is that this is an issue with the transmission, but I’d like to go on more than a guess before sinking money into new parts. Given the quality of most newer washers, it seems worth it to keep this one going for a few more years. Any insight would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
There are a few things to consider. Is there a dirty ring around the inside of the case about clutch level? If so there is a seal leaking water on the clutch making it slip. It could also be a worn spin gear. In that case change the neutral drain kit. Use this video to learn about that. How To Overhaul a Whirlpool Direct Drive Transmission: Complete Guide ruclips.net/video/UbybdNrfYvg/видео.html. You might have a motor coupling that is broken or stripped out. Check that. The ears on the spin tube might be stripped and slipping on the spin block. That’s all I can think of at the moment. Thanks for watching!
I have to agree with what many of the other folks said; this technician is very thorough and very clear in his instruction; I was able to quickly diagnose our washer issues. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
You are very welcome! Thanks for watching!
Great video. Any tips the budget laundry centers or stackables? my laundry closet can't fit side by side.
I really haven't looked into which is best. I have heard good things on the GE's though. Thanks for watching!
Is this all new GEs? Geeze, you think they'd fix this
You would think so. Thanks for watching!
Where the heck is the interior light bulb located at inside the Speed Queen gas dryer? Mine burnt out and I can’t find any reference in the owners manual.
Look above the door just inside at the top.
@ Thank you so much , that’s exactly where it’s located. Geeez I’m such a dumb ass…🤓
Can one bypass the door switch
Yes , but I don’t recommend it. Thanks for watching.
Thanks Chip. I just made me a suspension rod puller like yours.
Thanks for sharing! Thanks for watching too!
I have one where the drain pump constantly runs and won’t compete cycles. I’m assuming that would be the control board? Any input is appreciated
Hold down the start button until the pump goes off.
Thanks man just helped me diagnose my problem, appreciate it
I’m glad my video was helpful. Thanks for watching!
The whirlpool duet dryers are the most fun to work on so many parts to remove just get it apart and I had one with a button that you would have to push and once you pushed it a rod came out so you could hang your clothes on as you take them out of the dryer and it was the most amazing thing i ever seen.
LOL, thanks for watching!
I have an Estate washer and recently it stopped working, now it will still fill with water, but when it comes time for the agitator to start it does nothing, could this be the lid switch or maybe something else like a blown motor maybe?
That is the symptom of a bad lid switch.
Man your tub went back in easy. I tried for thirty minutes to get mine back in and it still didn't fall back into place.
If you clean the shaft up real well with a wire brush and fine sand paper it usually slips right in. Thanks for watching!
I have a TR in one house and a TC in the other. Love the TC. The TR has circuit board issues and shakes the house apart while in Spin.
Thanks for watching hing!
When I start the test and make it to the 6 o'clock and push the button. It starts filling with water. Should I replace the board
That all depends on where you start your test from. Thanks for watching!
Belt is fine and my resident saying it’s not spinning all the water out could this be speed sensor ?
Change the belt and clean the pulleys. It might look fine but isn’t. Make sure no water valves are dripping on spun out clothes too. Thanks for watching!
@@HarperandKnowles there was a lot of grease on belt and pulley
Yeah, that means you should replace it. Grease compromises the belt tension.
@ what do you clean it with imma try and clean it and replace belt tomorow hope it helps
@@HarperandKnowles what causes the grease on like that
Your video’s are very informative! I just did the neutral drain repair on my old Whirlpool direct-drive.. which was successful. But since I reinstalled the gearbox it’s been leaking water quite a bit… never leaked before. Why do think removing and reinstalling the gearbox would cause a leak?
You may have damaged the spin tube or transmission shaft seals. Look through my playlist about how to fix Whirlpool and other washers and you’ll find one about changing those seals.
@ Thank you 🙏🏻
What size and where can you get the spanner wrench?
Here’s a link. amzn.to/3Zfz8Qr
Go with Speed Queen. Commercial grade quality without the unnecessary bells and whistles. There’s a reason they are renowned for laundromat’s.
Thanks for sharing!
Sounded like even the bird in the back ground was cracking up and cackling at you finding the “slingshot” thong in the washing hose lol
Lol, you think so? Thanks for watching!
Hi chip. I have ran the trouble shooting mode and had a stuck button code F2E1 and took the button out (previous owner had it stuck) i ran the same test and no codes. I went to start a large load and it would fill half way up then drain. Same thing with the medium load. But i can wash things on a small load. Ive tried calibrating it but now im at a lost. Can you please point me in the right direction. Thank you!
Your water valve isn’t filling the tub fast enough. It times out before the correct pressure reading is met and will pump out and shut off so that you don’t flood your house. It’s a safety thing. It starts on small loads because it reaches the correct pressure reading before timing out. Change your water inlet valves and you’ll be good to go! Thanks for watching!
Chip, great repair. Those tops are always a hassle to open.
Yeah, I’d like to say a few words to the guy that designed that.
Whirlpool should be totally ashamed of themselves. They purchased Maytag, a longtime manufacturer of quality machines. They purchased Kitchen Aid, and they have proceeded to destroy both reputations. They should follow Speed Queen's example. Make a quality product and people will buy it. Make the cheaper stuff for those who can't afford it.
Yeah, once they gobbled up all the competition they shifted into engineered obsolescence. Thanks for watching!
Good fix Chip ... Sadly no train horn Thx for another great vid
Thanks for watching Eddy!
Those washer are a gold mine for me. People say they need a control board because that wont drain and the technician replaced the pump and it still wont dain. Its always just a broken wire.like 1 foot up the wires that go to the pump
Hey, hey! Thanks for the tip. I just got one in with the same issue. I was scratching my head trying to figure it out!
@@HarperandKnowles your welcome
All and I mean all new ones any brand are JUNK !!
Nah, Speed Queen’s are built very well. Thanks for watching!
Thanks, good video. This is the repair my GE Hotpoint needs. Plus it probably needs a new belt and rear bearing because it's so old, 25-30 years. It squeaks, on and off, and catches clothes along the top, time to time, but otherwise has never failed me or needed repairs until now. The squeaking started slowly almost 2 years ago and the clothes getting caught about 8 months ago. I recently had my washer fixed by a repairman and also wanted the dryer looked at. He only stuck his head in the drum upside down and told me to buy a new one because it was the bearings and too costly to fix. This GE looks identical to my machine. Would the same kit for work for me? Do you have a video for the rear bearing, by chance? I'm hoping my drum didn't get worn. In that case, I'll buy new.
Order your drum bearings from your model number. There are at least two different types. I’m planning a video now about replacing the rear ball and cradle on the rear of the drum, do stay tuned. Thanks for watching!
@HarperandKnowles Subscribing
Thank you!
It may already be in another comment but i watched a different video, disassembled/unclogged/reassembled my drain pump and then none of the lights would work even for diagnostic purposes, it was just humming. Then I stumbled across your video and obviously couldn't start diagnostics without lights.... I watched 10 more videos and stumbled across something called "flood mode" and apparently all I had to do was plug the washed back in and let it hum for 30m to "reset". Flood mode is apparently a thing 😂
I belief the correct term is a “suds lock” here’s a video I made on that. How To Reset Your Washing Machine's Control Board: Fixing Endless Cycles & Suds Lock ruclips.net/video/avLVuDeG84c/видео.html
Your video is a waste of time. I don't care about all the other crap going on. Please learn to edit your videos. Now to find something helpful.
Thank you!! Some how I have turned on the door lock test mode twice. I do it when I decide to cancel my current load settings and chose another. I think holding the start button to cancel for too long sets it to diagnose. Every time I push start it locks and unlocks but that's it. Holding the start button again to get out of the trouble shooting mode is all it takes to fix. Thank you!!
Lol, thanks for watching!
God Bless you gentlemen here! Single woman here, I know my way around a few things, but not these newer washsers. My brand new 2 year old washer just started doing this, so thanks to you I will know where to look and what to do. Ill try blowing it out first then move forward. Thanks so much for the info. Now to man handle these items in my washing room so I can gain access: my fridge, dryer must be moved to get washer out. Good lord..... I think I will rearrange how these go back in. Thanks again!
You are welcome. Thanks for watching!
Hi Chip my whirlpool ultimate 2 is leaking, it looks like from the transmission? What needs fixing? I thank you for your helpful videos.
Well, is it leaking oil or water or both? If you look under it can you see a ring of oil around the inside of the cabinet? If so, I’d say you need to change the transmission shaft seal in the top of the spin tube.
Normal use TR5 lasted 6 years. Bearing failure. Repair Tech says not worth repairing You can buy a new one for the price of the repair. Is this true?
No. He’s too lazy to fix it. Find someone else. Thanks for watching!
By gawd, I followed your video for my dryer and IT WORKED! At least for now it is....THANK YOU!
I’m glad it helped you. Thanks for watching!
Thank You for the informative videos!!! Really detailed and makes this easier to understand!!!

Thank you so much! Tapping the relay worked like a charm.

I love my Amana washer and Dryer. Dislike the Whirlpool, clothes come out very wrinkled. .
Lol, Amana is a Whirlpool brand name. Whirlpool Corporation acquired the Amana brand as part of its purchase of Maytag Corporation in 2006. Maytag had previously owned Amana, and when Whirlpool acquired Maytag, it gained Amana along with other Maytag assets. The acquisition allowed Whirlpool to expand its portfolio of appliance brands. When you disassemble an Amana washer every part in it is interchangeable with Whirlpool parts. So, what you really have is a Whirlpool machine! Thanks for watching!
You stud, you nailed it, mine works but it pulsates like a machine gun? Any thoughts? Thanks

Can you do an upgrade on straightening those spin tubes
I’m not sure what you are asking.
I meant an update I'm sorry it was a little fast and I couldn't tell what side you were going from the bedside to the good side or vice versa
Which video is that?
You're spin to straightening tool
Oh! Well I’m not straightening the spin tube. I’m pushing against the agitator to push the basket out. So, if you rotate the basket and take notice of where it comes closest to the splash guard then you should push exactly opposite of that point. In other words, if you rotate the basket 180 degrees from that point you can see where you need to push the basket outward enough to even the distance of the basket relative to the splash guard all the way around. If I make another video in the future and do this I’ll try to explain it better.
I just got the Speed Queen TV2000WN commercial washer and dryer. I’d rather pay double for metal parts and no computer with proven (lack of) technology (totally analog). The washer is about 2x as heavy as the one it replaces. No bells and whistles but I expect these to last a long time.
I expect they will. Thanks for watching!
thank you so much been tech for 7 years and just ran into this problem yesterday for first time and couldn’t believe the fuse burnt out over night and sure enough i go back today check element did exactly what happen on the video thank you for taking time out of your day to explain
Glad to help my friend. Check out my other videos for more great information. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for this! Just bought a new house with a front loader that leaks and is full of mold...needed to replace and was leaning SQ, now I know what I want!:) Do any of them work for a King size blanket?

Thank you for the help.

Thanks Chip! your info helped us make an easy decision. We simply bought the TC5 and DC5 dryer. They replaced our 24 year old Maytag LAT2500AAE and matching gas dryer. Chip the new Speed Queens are virtually identical to our existing 24 year old Maytag machines. They still run well but I would rather replace them before they eventually need repairs!
I’m glad my video was helpful. Thanks for watching!
