I totally agree with everything Chip said about the TR5 washer. Have not been disappointed at all but had to put in a service call. Turned out to be a motor pulley. It was under warranty and for remaining 5 years. My neighbor has had countless calls for her appliances because there not built to last. My previous Maytag washer lasted 30 years and the dryer is still running. Good review Chip and who would know better!
I’m a Speed Queen owner/user and I approve this message. Speed Queen cannot be compared to other washer/dryer manufactured products. It’s in a class of its own, above the rest
Speed queen outlast but dont really last long 25 years and miele can do better than speed queen and speed queen is just like apple with a cheap parts inside they washing machine
Also speed queen just looks like robust in architecture because more on metal parts and old style parts but that doesn't mean durability.. at least speed queen life span is common in 8 to 15 years but your lucky if your speed queen get 15 years old or 20 years old now since if its Raytheon made
@@johncarlo-us2slI have a Miele. After 6 years of use, I got a leak in my rubber gasket. Ok, that could wear out with any brand. Fair enough. Two service calls later, the leak was found and then I was told that the part alone would be $500. It would require yet another service call. Fingers crossed, I patched the problem but expensive parts and draconian rules Miele places on their technicians are two things Miele owners don’t want to talk about. Miele dishwashers are second to none. I also love my vacuum cleaner and dryer, but front loaders are too finicky in any brand. Not worth it.
@@Wentletrap213 miele is way more worth than speed queen miele is just the advance version of speed queen and also if you live in us or western the repair would be really expensive since there just a few repairman so that will be really expensive
My Dad was a pipefitter and worked part time for his boss that owned a laundromat. He told me to buy a Speed Queen! I did buy a Speed Queen, and I can't remember when! It's a AWS75NW. Fantastic!
I ordered a TC5 and I'm patiently waiting for its delivery. In the mean time I've been reading horrible reviews against Speed Queen, on the Better Business Bureau and Consumers reports website. I'm praying I made the correct choice. 😢
Thanks for the review! Came here after reading negative reviews on the T7. We have a T7 being delivered next week and I’m excited to get a washing machine that won’t have to be replaced every few years. We’ve owned both a Maytag and a Whirlpool in the last 10 years- both molded/mildewed in the plastic drum (getting all over clothes) and both quit working. A couple of repairs and a service fee later and we decided to just buy a new machine because that was most cost efficient. I can’t stand the idea of disposable appliances sitting in landfills. Praying the Speed Queen will last for years to come!
I bought the TC5 and its companion dryer about 2 and a half years ago now and I couldn't be happier with them. I bypassed the safety switch on the lid with a clothespin so it keeps running if I want to raise the lid to add something at the last minute, like the fabric softener I often forget to add. Saves wear and tear on the machine by not having to let it stop and start if ya need to raise the lid. My last washer & dryer was an old style Whirlpool set that were over 20 years old. They still worked, but I didn't know how much longer they would last and I didn't want to have to settle for what I could get immediately if they quit. Had to order the Speed Queen set and wait about a month for the 150 year old Mom & Pop store to deliver them (Billy Matin's Store, Martinsburg, Indiana) but it was worth the wait. While waiting I picked up some ancillary items like steel braided hoses for the supply lines, etc.
@@nealrogers It doesn't lock, but it will stop the machine running if you raise the lid. Bypassing the safety switch lets the machine keep running when I raise the lid to add something to the load.
we went to our local appliance dealer 10 years ago looking for a new washer and dryer. he recommended Speed Queen and that's what we bought. have had zero issues with them. excellent machines.
I have a Whirlpool - ugh. Recently began to shake violently and, as a result, I got a quick lesson on suspension rods. Saw the suspension rods that Speed Queen uses on all of its models - amazing!! Just ordered a TC5. Never thought I'd be this excited about a washing machine ...
You will be pleased. Speed Queen suspensions don’t use the rods, rather a traditional pedestal and spring support type. I think it’s superior to the rod suspension for sure. Thanks for watching.
My Whirlpool machines are from 1987. My aunt bought them new, was careful with them, and I never overload them. They still look new! When they go out .... I try not to think about that day.

Bought a Speed Queen set in 2007. They see heavy use - 2 or 3 loads a day. Just replaced the washer belt & tensioner last week. That was the first time I'd opened it. I opened the dryer and saw the belt was getting thin and one idler wheel wasn't spinning as freely as the other, so I ordered those. Amazing these have gone 17 years before needing minor service.
I'm a Huebsch servicer, I've only been called for one washer job because a sock got caught between the basket and tub. When I can't get parts for my old Kenmore, I'm definately geting one of these!
Very true Chip. I mentioned a few months back that we were considering a Speed Queen set. The wife wasn't sure if she wanted the TC5, or the TR7 set. After comparing she decided on the TR7 set, and has been very happy with them. And quiet they are. I have to stand almost beside the washer to hear it running. I was a bit suspicious about the cleaning ability of the washer, but am amazed at how will it does. Thanks for your help in that decision.
I’m glad she was pleased with it. My sister has one and a few people I steered in the Speed Queen direction have bought them and no one has approached me with a complaint. Thanks for watching!
@@christinecolburn6971 My wife had the same problem Christine. So we went to the appliance store, and she took her time to compare both sets. She decided on the TR/DR7 set because the price difference was mininal compared to the cost, and the TR/DR7 had a 7 year warranty compared to the TC/DC5's 5 year warranty. Good luck on your decision. I don't think you can make a bad decision as both sets are made by Speed Queen.
One thing to consider is that cheap appliances weren't really an option back in the day. Appliances were major investments for working class and middle class families. They were built to last and handed down, fixed when broken instead of replaced. The fact that most companies build junk now is not corporate greed. It's just responding to where the demand is. Most people live way beyond their means in homes they can barely afford, and drive cars that they can barely afford to drive. So if any kind of big expense comes out of nowhere like their washing machine breaks, they aren't looking at a 1300 dollar speed queen. That's not how it used to be. Regular people used to save up for a long time and buy expensive quality stuff and take care of it. I used to make fun of my grandparents for putting plastic on their couch. But man, that was a very high quality couch that was well built and probably cost them about 15% of their yearly income to buy it. Just different times.
I have an older AWN41 Speed Queen washing machine. Basic and my wife and I have had it for the past 11 and half years. The only time I had to even open the front of the machine was for removing a dish rag that the wife was using to clean the tub seal at the top of the machine. She got the rag past the seal and I open the machine and removed the rag I was so glad that she got me as the rag was sitting on the transmission belt. It was a quick easy thing to get the rag out and close up the machine. This machine is stone cold reliable and never have had a problem since we bought it and yes it will wash a large heavy queen size comforters and not have a problem (one at a time) Even after 11 years the Speed Queen still looks new and we used it a lot. We had a Maytag set that went from 1984 until 2013 and I already see the same reliability with the Speed Queen. Yep sometimes old tech works better then the new fangled garbage tech we have in other machines
I have a TR in one house and a TC in the other. Love the TC. The TR was giving me problems but when repaired turned-out to be a loose tub counter-balance and a fill hose with the screens reversed. TR now runs great, as well.
Thanks Chip! your info helped us make an easy decision. We simply bought the TC5 and DC5 dryer. They replaced our 24 year old Maytag LAT2500AAE and matching gas dryer. Chip the new Speed Queens are virtually identical to our existing 24 year old Maytag machines. They still run well but I would rather replace them before they eventually need repairs!
We got a new TR7 washer and DR7 dryer eight months ago..I normally prefer knobs and buttons over touchpad type controls, but the wife had the final say and she loves them. When the wife is happy life is good, lol.
I just bought a washer and gas dryer speed queen coin operation machine this month. I just got hook up downstairs. I washed two time and dry my clothes two times so far so good. I love my speed queen. I bought both from the appliance store.
Our old Series 70 (1988)Kenmore broke down in September and I replaced it with a Speed Queen TC5 and have not regrets. The spin tube support braces on the Kenmore are almost eaten through from leaking tub seal and the spin tube bearings and seals need replacing. I had already bought numerous parts and will rebuild the spin tube and support brackets and sell it.
Based on your review. I went with Speed Queen over other brands 👍. I went with TC5 because I want a stronger washing ability. I don’t need gentle soft washes. Thank you so much for the in-depth review as I couldn’t differentiate the difference between 5 and 7. Speed Queen is smaller in tube size but its wider. The draw back is it is quite noisy 😂 but I don’t live in an apartment or wash it at night. TR7 seems too weak for me. I want durability over quieter. Thank You.
The plastic outer tub is definitely a problem when it comes to smells. I have a 30 year old Miele front loader with a stainless steel inner and outer tub, and the machine has never smelled moldy. My mother has an LG top loader, and even though she leaves the lid open, we have to clean the tub twice a year to get rid of the smell. I don't remember any washer ever smelling moldy back in the old days when everything was made of metal.
Very informative video on the speed queens! I've been delivering and installing these for 11 years back when they had the mechanical timers. I've been told they are more expensive/difficult to repair. They aren't bulletproof but compared to everything else on the market they are a much better quality. But i would rather have a whirlpool direct drive as long as parts are still available. Those ones just keep running! Enjoyed the video, thanks chip!
I posted a while back on a previous review you did of the Speed QueenTC5 and since have now been using the TC5 for a while and love it as does my wife. I believe as you have said this should last quite a while, so lets go find a nice old Luscombe or J-3 to hop around the field in. Thanks again for the professional recommendation ! Blue Skies !!!
The DR7 dryer has been awesome-barely any dog hair on my clothes now. My washer died last week, so I guess it’s time to level up with the TR7 to match.
Our last machine was a LG and it only lasted about 4 years and when it broke down, we couldn't find anyone to fix it. So when I went to buy a new machine, I prayed about it and the man at the appliance place told me a Speed Queen would outlast if I bought 4 or 5 of the cheaper brand machines so I bought a Speed Queen.
Spent 700 bucks on a Maytag “commercial” xl capacity washer and it broke to the point of not being cost effective to repair it after 5 years. The Maytag Bravios dryer made it 6 years. I feel like buying a new washer and dryer every 5 years is absurd, so I’m going with the TC5. Haven’t looked into dryers yet. I thought pretty much all dryers were reliable, but this Maytag proved me wrong.
Great review or compare and contrast of the two different systems SQ uses. We are right around the corner we believe in needing a new washer after our Kenmore, have to be honest, has been going 19 years as a front loader but was one of the units built in Germany. Our biggest dilemma will be TC5 or TR7!
We have the washer/dryer set High efficiency Maytag Bravos XL. .. it is essentially a great big lovely looking piece of junk. Saving for a speed queen set🙏
This is kind of interesting. I have TR 7, which I love. I had an issue with the dryer which will be resolved when the tech comes back (he ordered parts for it). It just randomly stops working but eventually will work again. The TR 7 has a 7 year warranty which is unbelievable. I was still deciding between the TC 5 and TR 7 when I walked into the store. My sales guy recommended TR 7 because of the warranty. You will pay much more for Speed Queen.
1970's I worked in a factory that produced washer and dryers, rebranding was common. These machines were built like tanks. My mothers 1960 machine was sill going strong in 2010.
I have a 1987 Kenmore “Limited Edition” washer and dryer with electronic touch controls. Both still work and have had only one minor repair each. The washer is getting “tired” (neutral drain, noisy spin gear, oil leaking) so I will most likely retire them and get a Speed Queen set. I am not crazy about their dryer design but I like to have a matched set!
Thanks for sharing your experience with the Kenmore “Limited Edition”. I was wondering which manufacturer made those. They look like Whirlpool’s but I’m not sure.
I was watching vintage "The price is right" from early 1980's and a few times speed queen had a washer and gas dryer set for a prize. The cost for both was 1000 dollars. At least that was the price the show displayed!
Bought a SQ when my mom's 1967 Maytag died in 2012. 45 years, amazing! But Maytag is just a brand name these days, like Kenmore. Not at all like they used to be. Spent a full 2 months shopping and found there isn't anything like the older machines except SQ.
I've got 43 yrs on my maytag lat9420. The tub seal started leaking and maytag discontinued the part so put a knock off seal in and got it working. Have rust on the outer tub for the drain and bleach hose connections. I think when those connections go the washer is done. I would probably buy a tc5.
I have a TR3 and I have had the timer wash machine in the past. This machine is so quiet I have to check to see if it's done because I can't hear it running. I learned the spin only setting by holding down the start pause button until the spin light comes on. Just something different than the old timer machines.
From a dyed-in-the-wool DIY'er, I have gotten to the point that I look at the cost of repair parts and the ease with which to make repairs on appliances. Having torn apart our LG washer several times to replace tub bearings, the water pump, hoses, the door gasket twice, and the so-called shock absorbers, the last straw was the unavailability of the drum bearings. When I did find them, they cost $400. To do repairs on any of the front loaders takes a couple of hours, and you have to, for all practical purposes, do an almost complete tear-down. You also need to buy the pliers to remove and install the wire snap-rings for the door gasket, or that will take two hours and lots of cussing to get them back on. For the Speed Queens, you can order the parts from Alliance (the parent company) directly, and the prices are not too bad. OK, transmissions go for around $400, but they do have a re-build kit and the gear fluid for it. Motors are about what you would pay for any of the direct-drive motors of a front-loader, and belts and water pumps are not going to cause a heart attack. To gain access to the mechanical parts you just need to remove screws out of the front panel, and you should have access to everything. OK, if you need access from the back it does not look all that bad to remove screws... Great, the Speed Queens have a dual-action agitator. We thought the front-loader would do a better job than the Kenmore dual action agitator it replaced. Wrong....I tried every HE detergent I could get my hands on, and every cycle and temperature combination possible. With three toddlers who turned into teenagers I had to use the pre-wash cycle and the longest wash time I could manage....usually two hours, along with an extra rinse cycle. I am still scratching my head how this saved water, electricity, natural gas, or time. With screaming tub bearings, we are going to get a Speed Queen washer.
My husband just replaced the bearings and tub seal. The cost was around $40 for both. It was on my 16 year old Kenmore built by LG. He has replaced the pump 3 times. Around $16-$18. Cheap repairs since he is able to do it. Replacing bearings is a big pain (for him). It’s working again. Front loader.
The horrible smell of the front loaders is why I will buy a top loader/Speed Queen TC 5 soon. Just wondering is there anything I can do to lessen the chance my clothes and washer would smell horrible with the TC 5? Also any general maintenance you recommend people to do for these Speed Queen washers or we can just leave it alone without doing anything and it wont have any bad odor or have any other problems with it?
I’ve heard people say they run about a half gallon of white vinegar through a large cycle about once a month to keep it smelling good. Thanks for watching!
I purchased a TR7 and DR 7 new in the fall of 2023. The dryer has required at least 5 service calls. It’s a loud metal on metal rust bucket sounds loud and terrible. It’s worst at the beginning of the cycle, then gets quieter. The technicians tell me it’s just a characteristic of the machine. They tell me they all sound like loud rust buckets. The washer has had 3 service calls, requiring a new lid lock, and a new water pump today. Yes, the warranty pays for everything, but I just spent a week at the laundromat waiting for a service call. These machines are the 6th new laundry set I’ve had in my life. They are very noisy if they’re on your main floor or near bedrooms. They also turn small laundry rooms into saunas unlike the sealed systems of the front loaders. If I could find someone willing to put new rollers or parts on this dryer or even take it apart to see what the rattly noise is, I’d feel better. Also, the dryer will work most times, but sometimes leaves clothes damp. My set was built during the pandemic. Maybe the workers on the line back then were monkeys. But,I feel they are very poorly made. And, they are expensive compared to other brands. The steel is very thin. Easy to twist a door. Nothing like the good old Maytag sets!
Maytag effectively went bankrupt in 2006 and was acquired by Whirlpool April 1st the same year. Ever since Maytag machines are essentially the same animal as the similar Whirlpool versions. Speed Queen is the superior brand over all other American made machines. It’s unfortunate that your experience with them has been so negative. Thanks for watching!
My mammys old Maytag washing machine lasted 37 years, it only needed 4 new pumps, 2 replacement motors, 3 timers and a water level pressure switch every now and then. Apart from that it was the best machine ever. 😂
Good review. When mentioning the past heavy duty, sturdy Whirlpool Washers can this be pinned down to a particular set of model years when such sturdy machines were produced &/or the model or series names?
The last “old school” Whirlpool direct drive washers, known for their durability and simplicity, were manufactured in 2010. These machines, introduced in the 1980s, featured a beltless design with a direct connection between the motor and transmission. After 2010, Whirlpool transitioned to high-efficiency models, such as the belt-driven Vertical Modular Washer (VMW) platform, which were more energy- and water-efficient to comply with new regulations. Thanks for watching!
Hey Chip, I have the Maytag commercial unit (6 years old) , works and cleans great...short cycle full tub of water, no lid lock except during spin. Had no choice because original TC series was discontinued that year (2018?) and replaced with TR series which was awful ..bad reviews from consumer reports, etc. Enough complaints that TC "classic" was reintroduced a couple of years later and TR series was revamped to clean properly. If TC had been available i would have bought that, but my "second best" old school washer is amazing and no issues yet!! Cheers
Wait? What? I understand the classic was reintroduced becuase the TR was so bad at cleaning....but I didn't know the TR was revamped... what exactly did they do to it?
@@One-Day-After-Another Sorry, no expert here but they supposedly made the wash action a bit more forceful which resulted in better performance but I (personally) would buy the TC series still if i were in the market. Maytag commercial series "MVWP" are great machines although the price has gone up from 6 years ago.
@@glennlazenby6137 I'm not in the market for one either I was just curious. If I were going to get a SQ it would be their front loader...I've gotten so used to using one for 20 yrs now... though I agree with you.. if I had to get a TL washer it would be the SQ classic and not that TR monstrosity... but I'm glad they tried to improve it... the wash action I witnessed from videos on that thing was the worst I had ever seen... especially with anything stiff like jeans or builky things... the rag stayed on top the entire time... It couldn't even move it... I mean, don't they reesarch and develop and test these things?? How they didn't test for all scenarios like that is beyond me.
@@One-Day-After-Another Totally agree with you regarding research and development, seeming lack of all scenarios is beyond me as well. Common sense is a rare commodity these days! (LOL) Have a great turkey day, my friend
I used my moms Hotpoint purchased in the mid 1980’s … it was built quite good and did a fabulous job. The cycle selection knob went after 20 years .. the appliance service tech that showed up told me that he couldn’t get that part anymore and all he could do is find a used one to put in … and he couldn’t guarantee how long that would last .. so he recommended that I start shopping for a new machine . I ended up purchasing a new GE top load about 3 years ago …,it’s ok … but definitely not built to last .
Dexter Laundry focuses exclusively on the commercial laundry market. They manufacture heavy-duty washers, dryers, and stackable units designed for laundromats, on-premise laundry facilities (hotels, hospitals, etc.), and industrial applications. Unlike brands like Speed Queen, which has both residential and commercial lines, Dexter does not produce consumer-grade home laundry machines. Their products are built for durability, high-volume usage, and easy serviceability, making them ideal for businesses rather than residential customers. If you’re considering a Dexter machine for a home setting, you’d likely be looking at a commercial unit, which would require different installation, power, and water supply considerations.
Can you do a video on Speed Queen gas dryers? I have seen a lot of videos for their washers but don’t know a lot about their dryers. Thanks. Happy Holidays
Unfortunately I cannot. In my part of the country very few people use gas dryers anymore and I’d say I see them less than 1% of the time. Perhaps only 2 to three times a year I’ll work on a gas dryer and I’d say all of those are Whirlpool made. If there is a Speed Queen dryer within 200 miles of me I’d be surprised. Thanks for watching and Merry Christmas!
They make awesome dryers too. Here’s a review I made on those. How To Choose the Best Clothes Dryer: Speed Queen DR7 vs. DC5 Comparison ruclips.net/video/AicG9R-XU3Q/видео.html
The current MSRP for a Speed Queen (Alliance) TC5 is $1329.99. Pro tip, find a quality used Whirlpool/Kenmore direct drive machine and refurbish it for less than half that price. That refurbished machine will last another twenty years or more with minor repairs. Bonus, not available of the TC5, the direct drive machines will allow the user to select any water fill level you desire, and the agitator is dual action.
The Speed Queen TC5 and TV2000 (TV2) share some mechanical similarities but have distinct differences in their control systems and features: Control System: The TV2 has all mechanical controls, with no water level selector or deep fill option, meaning it automatically fills to a full tub regardless of the load size. In contrast, the TC5 offers more flexibility with its control system, including options for different water levels and a deep fill feature for better customization of the wash cycle. Design and Features: While both models are mechanically close, the TC5 includes features like a bleach and fabric softener dispenser, which are not present in the TV2. The TV2's straightforward design might appeal more to those who prefer simplicity and a no-frills approach to laundry, whereas the TC5 provides additional options for those who might need more control over their wash settings. Washing Performance: Both models are designed for durability and classic agitator wash action, but the TC5's additional control options might offer a slight edge in handling various types of laundry needs. The TV2, being mechanically similar but less feature-rich, might be ideal for users looking for a straightforward, reliable washing machine without the need for extensive cycle options. In summary, while both washers are from Speed Queen known for their longevity and robustness, the TC5 offers more user control over the washing process, including water levels and additional dispensers, whereas the TV2 provides a more basic, mechanical operation with a fixed water level. Since the TR7 doesn't really compare mechanically to the TV2000 we'll leave it out of the choosing. I'd choose the TC5 for home use and the TV2000 if I was going to stick a coin box on it for commercial use. Thanks for watching!
I understand there is an issues with the TR5000. I have a bearing noise at the base and Speed Queen put out a bulletin out of this issue. What is the warranty period? I purchased during March 2020. I've owned SQ many years ago and never, ever had an issue with any component when they were owned by Raytheon. I certainly hope their quality control didn't change.
The only thing I don’t like is the spray rinse during the first spin is not a wide enough spray to hit all the clothes. But certainly not a deal breaker
Thanks for making these Chip! Picking out appliances & going speed queen for washer. Our dryer has to be ductless cause of location, not sure if u've reviewed those or have a recommendation, be curious to hear your thoughts :)
Thanks for making such an informative video! I’m struggling to choose between the TR5 and TC5. The TR5 has a similar cleaning to the tr7, I don’t need extreme clean since my wife and I don’t ever have heavily dirty clothes. I’d love your thought if you have time! Thanks again!
@@mattdecker6791 I’m going with the TC. Fewer “choices, bells, and whistles-fewer problems” has always been my motto. I even drive old, plain Jane vehicles for that very reason. 🤷🏻♀️
Hello Mr. Chip. I really want a speed queen. I used to be a correctional Officer and they used speed quuens in the prison. My question is, what is the largest capacity washer that speed queen makes with no lid lock? Thank you so much.
For that information refer to their website. They can answer those questions better than I. We have a Federal prison here in Oakdale LA. Any chance you ever worked here?
I just ordered a TR5 washer & TR5 dryer but am now seeing some negative reviews of the TR. What are your thoughts on the TR5 vs TC5? I am not sure why SQ hasn’t increased the size of the washer bucket, and am really hoping it will fit our king bed sheets & blankets…
The negative reviews are from die hard TC5 fans. My sister owns the TR’s and she loves them. They are good machines just a bit unconventional on the agitation cycle. The tubs are smaller and that is one of the characteristics that make them so durable. You may want to take the king sized blanket to a laundromat that has a large capacity machine made just for loads like king sized comforters. I’m betting your sheets would fit just fine though. Thanks for watching!
I answered a similar question recently so I’m just going to cut and paste that here. Thanks for watching! The Speed Queen TC5 and TV2000 (TV2) share some mechanical similarities but have distinct differences in their control systems and features: - **Control System**: The TV2 has all mechanical controls, with no water level selector or deep fill option, meaning it automatically fills to a full tub regardless of the load size. In summary, while both washers are from Speed Queen known for their longevity and robustness, the TC5 offers more user control over the washing process, including water levels and additional dispensers, whereas the TV2 provides a more basic, mechanical operation with a fixed water level. So for home use I think I’d take the TC5 option.
I have a 7 year old super capacity LG that may/may not have bearings going bad. There's a lot of laundry going on my house and I need my washer. I've neen wanting a Speed Queen for years. I like the idea of my clothes getting washed with enough water. But I'm concerned about the small capacity. Also, I actually use different cycles to wash and I worry if I get the TC5, I'll miss that. Decisions.
Speed Queen has contracts with the government. TV2000 is what they use on naval ships, military bases and etc. that’s the model you want people. All mechanical, no digital parts. It’s hard to find because it’s commercial. If you can’t find one of those, get a TC model.
@HarperandKnowles How about on the 7? I am looking at which one to purchase. We don't have greasy or heavily soiled clothes, so I think the 7 would be better, but I'm always one for adding clothes after the washer starts. I want to be able to open the washer after it starts if I need to add something.
If you press the start button during operation the machine will pause and once movement stops inside the lid can be opened and once you add items or chemicals you just close the lid and press the start button again to resume. Thanks for watching!
Yeah, those are the old Whirlpool made direct drive models that are still running today. Many people come to my shop looking for them on account of their known reliability. And it does a great job at washing clothes too!
Does the TR7 have a clean out hair or whatever filter or trap. I have a lot of dogs with lots of hair. I do brush their beding to remove the hair but can't get it all. I now have a Samsung that does have the filter I clean out after every 4 loads.😊
For anyone interested... It is possible for a cheaper washer to last 20 years.. My whirlpool duet (from 2005) will be 20 years old next year...it has a plastic outer tub... though I've never had mold.. I think because I use hot water and bleach with whites...I've seen horror stories over the year with mold but never had that issue (luckily)... I would LOVE to have the speed queen front load...which may happen if my washer dies.. I don't see how it could possibly keep going much longer, though it shows no signs of anything going on it at all... Either the SQ front load or LG front load with turbo wash because I like how it washes.. I think my washer drum size is 3.8 cubic feet... the SQ is even smaller than that...which I hate... as it stands I can BARELY wash a queen size comforter
Iam torn between tc and tr7. I like that uses less electronics with a TR seven seems to use more electronics I’m 67 I still get dirty not sure what one to buy

My previous Maytag washer lasted 30 years and the dryer is still running. Good review Chip and who would know better!

I hope it will be the last machine you’ll ever have to buy! Thanks for watching!
It will.

I purchased speed queen washer ten ago. It has operated perfectly, no issues
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for sharing your story!
Question: I thought the TC5 does not have lid lock? Is there something I am missing?

Thanks for this information. So hard to decide!!
Well said my friend! Thanks for watching.
This machine is stone cold reliable and never have had a problem since we bought it and yes it will wash a large heavy queen size comforters and not have a problem (one at a time)
Even after 11 years the Speed Queen still looks new and we used it a lot. We had a Maytag set that went from 1984 until 2013 and I already see the same reliability with the Speed Queen. Yep sometimes old tech works better then the new fangled garbage tech we have in other machines
Thanks for sharing your experience!

That sounds like a good project. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for a thorough and honest review! You're my kinda guy!

Thanks for your informative comment!

You made a wise decision. Thanks for watching!
Our LG just died on us last night. Glad I happened to find this video before we start shopping this upcoming weekend.

You won’t be disappointed. Thanks for watching!
Great review or compare and contrast of the two different systems SQ uses. We are right around the corner we believe in needing a new washer after our Kenmore, have to be honest, has been going 19 years as a front loader but was one of the units built in Germany. Our biggest dilemma will be TC5 or TR7!
My choice is the TC5 but both are great machines!

Thanks for your comment!

1970's I worked in a factory that produced washer and dryers, rebranding was common. These machines were built like tanks. My mothers 1960 machine was sill going strong in 2010.
Those were the good ole days for sure! Thanks for sharing your story!
They’ve gone up considerably! Thanks for watching!
Bought a SQ when my mom's 1967 Maytag died in 2012. 45 years, amazing! But Maytag is just a brand name these days, like Kenmore. Not at all like they used to be. Spent a full 2 months shopping and found there isn't anything like the older machines except SQ.
You are correct! Thanks for watching!
I've got 43 yrs on my maytag lat9420. The tub seal started leaking and maytag discontinued the part so put a knock off seal in and got it working. Have rust on the outer tub for the drain and bleach hose connections. I think when those connections go the washer is done. I would probably buy a tc5.
Thanks for watching!

Thanks Chip, great review. I'm going to replace an old Maytag Neptune set from the 1990's that finally died, and will probably get the TR7/DR7 combo.

I have a TR3 and I have had the timer wash machine in the past. This machine is so quiet I have to check to see if it's done because I can't hear it running. I learned the spin only setting by holding down the start pause button until the spin light comes on. Just something different than the old timer machines.
Thanks for sharing that trick! Thanks for watching too!
You won’t be disappointed. Thanks for watching!
@@HarperandKnowles Thank you sir! You are a scholar and a gentleman and I don't care what your in-laws say about you!😅
My husband just replaced the bearings and tub seal.
No clothes, just vinegar and water?
What is the price difference between Speed Queen and other decent quality washers and what dryer do you recommend. Thanks for your excellent review!!
Speed Queen is typically 2 to 3 times more expensive than low end washers and dryers. I recommend getting the Speed Queen. It only hurts once!

Thank you for your honest opinion 👍!
You are very welcome!
Ha, they’re made by Whirlpool now. And they are making crap! Thanks for watching another one my friend!
Cheers
That’s great my friend! I hope it chugs along for many more years for you. Thanks for watching!
Wait?
It couldn't even move it... I mean, don't they reesarch and develop and test these things?? How they didn't test for all scenarios like that is beyond me.

How does Dexter compare to Speedqueen? If they have a washer for home use it'd be interesting to hear your opinion, thank you ...

Would you pick the speed queen tv2000 over these two washers shown in your video? If so, why?😊
The Speed Queen TC5 and TV2000 (TV2) share some mechanical similarities but have distinct differences in their control systems and features:
Control System: The TV2 has all mechanical controls, with no water level selector or deep fill option, meaning it automatically fills to a full tub regardless of the load size.
@HarperandKnowles Thank you so much for the great information so that I may make a better informed decision on what to purchase.
You are very welcome!
I think it’s 5 years for that model. Check your paperwork you received with the machine. Hopefully you registered it when you bought it.
The only thing I don’t like is the spray rinse during the first spin is not a wide enough spray to hit all the clothes. But certainly not a deal breaker
Thanks for commenting!
Thanks for making these Chip! Picking out appliances & going speed queen for washer. Our dryer has to be ductless cause of location, not sure if u've reviewed those or have a recommendation, be curious to hear your thoughts :)
Oh, man! It’s surprising but I have absolutely no experience with these. Sorry, but I can’t help you with this choice. Thanks for watching!
Thumbs up! Thank you very much, amazing video. BTW, how about the DR5 (DR5004WE) and TR5 (TR5003WN) models?
Anything Speed Queen makes is made very well. Thanks for watching!
My sister has the TR7 and she loves it. So does a good friend of mine. No complaints from either. Thanks for watching!
I have a TR and it has multiple issues. I have a TC on another property and it has been flawless.
Thanks for sharing!

I’m going with the TC.
@HarperandKnowles No sir. I worked at Deerfield in Capron VA.
@@HarperandKnowles and thank you so much for your prompt response sir.
@@HarperandKnowleswhere’s Oakdale? I’m in north LA.
I wish SpeedQueen would start making kitchen appliances.
Thanks for watching!
An old friend is also a plumber. He gets his clothes beyond dirty, and swears by his Speed Queen washer.
Thanks for sharing, I’ve heard the same from many others.
New speed queen owner here! Does the machine have a normal rinse cycle when it is on off rinse or do i always need to have it on extra rinse?
It has a normal rinse. No worries! Thanks for watching!
What washing machine is second to Speed Queen?
Probably Miele if you can find them. Thanks for watching!
Thank you
My wife is turning her nose up at this because our 5yr old hot point is dead.
Can this handle queen size bed covers? Thank you
They say they can but you may have to stuff it in. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the info Chip. We are in the market for a good machine.
You won’t go wrong choosing Speed Queen. Thanks for watching!
I am 80 years so I don't need a machine to last 20 years. Any guide for a good machine with a decent warranty?
I like LG products. They seem to be made well. Thanks for watching!
TC5 all the way!
That would be my choice too! Thanks for watching!
Chip, what are your thoughts on buying a Speed Queen TV2000WM for home use?
I answered a similar question recently so I’m just going to cut and paste that here. Thanks for watching!
The Speed Queen TC5 and TV2000 (TV2) share some mechanical similarities but have distinct differences in their control systems and features:
- **Control System**: The TV2 has all mechanical controls, with no water level selector or deep fill option, meaning it automatically fills to a full tub regardless of the load size. In contrast, the TC5 offers more flexibility with its control system, including options for different water levels and a deep fill feature for better customization of the wash cycle.
- **Design and Features**: While both models are mechanically close, the TC5 includes features like a bleach and fabric softener dispenser, which are not present in the TV2. The TV2's straightforward design might appeal more to those who prefer simplicity and a no-frills approach to laundry, whereas the TC5 provides additional options for those who might need more control over their wash settings.
- **Washing Performance**: Both models are designed for durability and classic agitator wash action, but the TC5's additional control options might offer a slight edge in handling various types of laundry needs.
Decisions.
Thanks for watching!
Speed Queen has contracts with the government. TV2000 is what they use on naval ships, military bases and etc. that’s the model you want people. All mechanical, no digital parts. It’s hard to find because it’s commercial. If you can’t find one of those, get a TC model.
Good advice!
Nice I'm in the market for a washer that will last me 30 years. I don't want to buy a new washer every 2 years. Lol
Thanks for watching!
Is there a way to bypass the lidlock?
There is no lid lock on the TC5.
I want a speed Queen with a mechanical timer and one I can set the water level .Any suggestions? Looks like a Tv2 but can you set the water level?
Check out their website for details of all the models. Www.speedqueen.com
I think no but not an expert. And it’s only for “commercial” use…unless…
Featured on the Price is Right 70s and 80s
Lol, thanks for watching!
I bought a used kenmore elite washing machine. Does it washes clothes as good or better than speed queen Tc5?
Yeah, those are the old Whirlpool made direct drive models that are still running today. Many people come to my shop looking for them on account of their known reliability. And it does a great job at washing clothes too!
@@HarperandKnowles Thanks. Also, one more question. Does the old DD like Kenmore I have, washes as good or better than GE filter flo?
I really couldn’t tell you. I fix em the Missus uses em!
Does the TR7 have a clean out hair or whatever filter or trap.
I have a lot of dogs with lots of hair. I do brush their beding to remove the hair but can't get it all.
I now have a Samsung that does have the filter I clean out after every 4 loads.😊
Check their website for that information. I think the pet friendly machines are dryers where pet hair can be separated easily. Thanks for watching.
@HarperandKnowles Thank you. I have but ould not find anything. I have an email to them.
So should I buy a tr7 or a tr5
You want us to decide for you??
If you take care of those older (pre 2006) washers they may last for many more years.
What about a front load washer speed queen? House hold of 6 people.
Anything Speed Queen makes is top quality. Thanks for watching!
Does the TC5 have an option for gentler washing, for my clothes vs my husband's clothes
Yes, it has a delicate and permanent press cycle too. Thanks for watching!
Iam torn between tc and tr7. I like that uses less electronics with a TR seven seems to use more electronics I’m 67 I still get dirty not sure what one to buy
You’d be pleased with either. The electronics on the TR7 are very robust and tested for over a million button pushes. Thanks for watching!
