Chip, great repair. Very thorough step by step coverage. With the rest of the washer in such good shape it was definitely worth it to replace the transmission.
Finally seeing you use power tools on a machine!!! Lol, love your videos on ge washers for some reason I like getting them to fix over the newer whirlpool models, also do you have to do a calibration after this repair?
As far as I can determine GE’s don’t require calibration. They do have personalities though that you can manipulate. Your machine’s personality should be set from the factory. Ha! I get a lot of grief about using hand tools. It’s what I enjoy doing! Thanks for watching!
Usually when this happens it’s either the capacitor or one of the motor windings is burned out. You can check continuity on the motor windings to determine which to change. Thanks for watching!
What a shame to throw it away, nice box to repair. The strange thing is that there are no signs of rust due to water leaking from the tub seal; that is the primary cause of premature damage to the bearings, especially the upper one.
@@HarperandKnowles oh man, that’s rough. here all major appliances washer, dryer, refrigerator etc have 2 years full warranty and additional 3 years parts only on the big ticket components like gearbox, motors and compressors

Hey Chip I have a whirlpool washer that does the same thing the clothes end up on one side and I was wondering if replacing the capacitor would help.

Yeah, no rusty water anywhere. Thanks for watching!
Hopefully GE would give a 2 year warranty on a new washing machine ?
Limited warranty. I don’t think it covers the gearbox.

5,Ocala Florida , where does the oil come from?
The oil is coming out of the gearbox. A seal has failed and leaking oil. Thanks for watching!
You should buy yourself a 3/8-drive impact. It's way lighter, and it's perfect for stuff like this.
Imma search for that right now! Thanks for the suggestion!
What is the going price for a new transmission?
I got that one for $109
