  • My washer behaved like it had a caged, wild animal inside: it would bump and jump and "walk" out of the designated space in the garage with every wash, and it would never complete a spin or drain cycle. Eventually, the "UL" error code (unbalanced load) showed up during the initial phases of spin early in the process rending it completely useless.
This video shows how to FIX THE RODS instead of replacing them. As far as I know, no one else on RUclips has tried this, and it works perfectly! The manufacturers of these rods used a SECRET INGREDIENT that has baffled tinkerers and professional repairmen alike for years (and sold untold numbers of new rods and new washers in the process).
And now, this knowledge can be yours in less than 20 minutes.
Huge props to @WasherDryerMoney. Without his curiosity and desire to refurbish washing machine rods, I would not have figured out this solution. You can catch his video about the "grippy fuse it thing," here: • Cheap Permanent? fix f...
Edit: 2023-05-22 - Have just been made aware of this video. It is easier than the epoxy part of my video, but I am unsure if it will last as long. (Because: surface area) Still, I love the simplicity of it, and it is worth mentioning as an alternative: • Whirlpool Maytag Washe...
Edit: 2024-06-05 - Unfortunately, I think my washer is coming down with a bad case of corrosion on the controller board and is giving me sporadic F2 errors. After all, this is Hawaii and the humidity and marine air are good for skin, but bad, bad, bad for exposed circuit boards. I have not had to touch the rods since the original repair, so that's incredibly satisfying. But ... I don't think this washer is going to be in service much longer. There's a ton of rust on the thing, now, and I'm not sure I'm up to the challenge of replacing the circuit board with a Raspberry PI (yet).
