  • In this video, I'm showing the step-by-step procedure of removing the driver door lock module on a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta. This video should cover the MKIV series which runs from 1998 through the midyear of 2005. This procedure requires the removal of the outer door panel, the outer lock cylinder and the door carrier assembly along with the driver door lock module. I've included notes in the video to cover those folks who don't have the plastic bracket on the door lock module that anchors it to the door carrier. Also, special thanks to Thomas where is channel is 'Thomas EXOVCDS' for some of his tips. You can find him here where he has a wealth of videos on VW's and Audi's. / @exovcds
    Thanks to everyone for watching and hope you enjoy the video.

    Hello,
    I just want to say thank you very much for taking the time to video how to install the lock on VW. My wife has a VW GTI but the door interior is the same. On this model, the car did not have the plastic part that you had. Regardless, I watched your videos several times and was able to do the job in 2 hours. Had to replace the switch for the fuel door as my wife was not able to refuel because she was not able to open the door for the fuel compartment. Actually I end up replacing both the switch as well as the actuator for the fuel door.
    Once again, many thanks for these and other informative videos and look forward to watching future videos. Saved few hundred dollars for what the dealer wanted for replacing door lock alone.

    This is by far the best video on uTube! The window on my 2004 Jetta fell into the door and this video is the only one to show how to remove the door lock assembly which is attached to the regulator. The other videos out there conveniently skipped over this part and showed the plastic door lock assembly bracket broken off because they did not do it correctly. The only tool I did not have was the M8 12 point metric bit. I found a 4 piece set at Canadian Tire for $24 CDN. Well done & thanks!

    Thank you so much for this video! I appreciate your attention to detail. I was stuck for some time on trying to disconnect the door latch electrical connector. You saved me from having to take my door further apart. 14:40.

    Just for consideration, I have seen multiple videos of these door lock replacements and some actually access this by taking the external door panel off, rather than from inside door card. This means you do not have to bother with the window mechanism and relatively speaking when it comes to door latch replacement seems easier. Personally speaking I can't speak to either method but thought worth mentioning people to consider tackling this job from the outside rather than inside.

    Excellent Terry. Did you happen to scan the VW with your autoenginuity for a code? Not sure if it would show a malfunction on the module. They make it so hard to get to.

    • @stuzman52
      @stuzman52  10 лет назад

      The generic version of autoenginuity would never show up codes for this since its not emission related. Of course, if I had the more expensive version, it would have showed up. I do have Ross-Tech's software and looked at the code a few months back. It was saying there was a driver door lock issue. In fact, this problem has been with the car since it was bought two years ago, and I'm just getting around to it. Man, I know how to procrastinate uh... When I said that I didn't do any troubleshooting and would explain later, I was thinking of how most people wouldn't have a scanner to read such codes. I was thinking more of using the wiring diagrams to do a diagnosis. But with VW diagrams, that wasn't going to happen until I reverse engineered it. I'll explain it all in a future video to show you what I mean. Thanks Steve for dropping by and sharing your thoughts.

    If the courtesy light, map light, and dome light don't come on when you open the door that suggests a faulty door switch. Upon doing some research it looks like the door switch is also part of that assembly you removed and not a separate switch like most cars. I think you'll find at least part of your problem begins with that switch.

    • @stuzman52
      @stuzman52  10 лет назад

      You are correct DJ as there is a door switch part of the locking assembly to detect when the door is open or closed. I'll cover more of this along with other stuff about the device in later videos. Thanks for your observation and for your comments.

    Wow, i'm glad to found your videos. I have exactly the same problem on my VW Passat b5.5 2003. I'll see the rest of your videos about this problem, and try fix it by myself. I hope my module is the same as yours, so it would be easier for me to do it right. Oh, and i just remembered one more problem with my door's. When i'm in the car and press the button on drivers door for locking all door's on my car, front door's lock, but both rear do something like this " lock-unlock-lock-unlock". And they stay unlocked, what can be problem with that? Sorry if my english is not understandable enough.
    Thanks!

    • @stuzman52
      @stuzman52  9 лет назад

      Headingmashine1 Your car must be a car which is not from North America. Other cars from other continents uses an extra micro switch on the pc board inside the door lock module for this lock/unlock status. From my understanding, it's more like a safety feature. However, others have said from other continents such as Europe, South America who uses this extra switch have replaced their door lock modules made for North America. If this is done, then you will get this lock/unlock going on. So, you have to replace the door lock module with the correct one. Be sure to watch all the videos as I cover this also not to mention of how they work, how to disassemble them along with the issues that causes them to fail and how to repair them. It will be the most detailed stuff about VW's door lock modules on the Internet. Your English is good enough that I understand you, so not to worry. Good luck on your repair!

    • @Headingmashine1
      @Headingmashine1 9 лет назад

      Yes, my car is build for European market.
      I probably won't replace my current module , if i make to fix it. That lock/unlock happens only when i press button inside, and doesn't happen all the time, sometimes it works. I thought it is just a error in the board computer.
      When i lock it on my remote, it works perfectly all the time. Only thing that i must fix now is that he sometimes (so micro switch sometimes work, and sometimes don't) don't know when the doors are open, and automatically lock the car.
      I will look you oder parts. Thank you.
      And one more question, if i sometimes replace my module, do i need to change the code on my remote?

    • @stuzman52
      @stuzman52  9 лет назад

      Headingmashine1 If you do have to change the door lock module, there's nothing to program as it's just a few switches inside along with a small motor. The program for remote operation is stored in an electronic module under the dash.

    Hello Mr Stuzman! I have an error on the driver's door lock 00928- Locking Module for Central Locking;Front Driver Side (F220).When I open the door,the warning light does not come on and does not indicate on board that the door has been opened. The problem accurs when it is cold outside. When it's hot everiting is ok! It works every time I try. It doesn't work in cold anymore. Please According to your experience, what can it be? I checked the mechanical swich and it looks ok!

    • @stuzman52
      @stuzman52  3 года назад +1

      It sounds like the switch which indicates when the door is open or closed. It's probably sticking during the cold weather. You can try a little silicone spray on the switch to see if that will loosen it up.

      Ok, I spent 5 hours and finally figured it out. The small clip that goes into the handle MUST be not pulled all the way. It's ideal to put it as close to the inside of the car as possible. Otherwise it has too much tension and it won't work. Beyond this, your video was AMAZING. Thanks for saving me a lot of money and being so clear.

    Although you did a respectable job, unfortunately. this will not help with my problem. I can't open the rear door behind the driver. First from outside then a few days later from inside as well. I wonder if could help, how can I solve this problem and open the door. My car is a VW Polo 6r 2009. I know the Lock Module is faulty and has to be repaired. Thank you for your advice.

    Dear Sir. Actually I have a problem with the rear right door. it is closed and locked so besides i saw all your videos (excelents by the way), I can not unlocked the door in order to open it and do the necesaary either repair or replacement of the module. my VW is a 2004 model. Can you be so kind into provides me any tips to unlock the door?. Again. I really appreciatte your kindly share of knowledge with us.

    • @stuzman52
      @stuzman52  9 лет назад

      Feña Perez Maybe you can manually pull up on the door stop to unlock the door. Also, I believe I've seen someone on RUclips where someone was actually able to get to the bottom screws on the door panel and got it removed. I can't think of anything else at the moment. Glad to hear that you liked the videos.

    • @FernandoPerez-qb3fh
      @FernandoPerez-qb3fh 9 лет назад

      Feña Perez . I removed the panel, disconected the window, and remove partially the electrical wiring. So I can see part of the module. the problem now is how door still closed and locked, I can not remove the module. I am trying to produce any movement of the mechanism (module) with either a wire and my hand and all was faulty. My last expensive chance this weekend will be to leave the car into the VW......but it will be an expensive experience, thinking that your videos show me exactly how to do the possible module repair, saving important quantity of money

    • @stuzman52
      @stuzman52  9 лет назад

      Feña Perez Okay, sounds like you've got a good part of the interior removed. Disconnect the negative battery cable as there may be current on the lock module to keep it in a locked position. When you disconnect the battery, you should be able to have a little more success in unlocking the door. Maybe the manual door stop will work at that point. Or if that doesn't work, you could take a nine volt battery and supply voltage to the wires feeding the motor to unlock it. Hopefully, you have a wiring diagram to know which wires these would be if you use this method.
