  • Today, I want to give you a good answer to the question “Tell me about yourself”.
This is truly the best way to answer the question, tell me about yourself. Its authentic, genuine, sincere, honest, and HUMAN.
I see so many people out there giving these cold, corporate, inhuman-type answers, because they talk about just their accomplishments and their work experience, and that’s it. But a good answer is an honest answer. So, when an employer asks them, “Tell me about yourself” they just rattle off their accomplishments and some of their work experience and then stay there.
Learn how to give a good honest answer to: TELL ME ABOUT YOURSELF by hiring expert: Don Georgevich of: jobinterviewtools.com

Out of all the videos I've watched on this particular subject, you're the only one who talked about this question as being a way to make a "connection" with the potential employer; a warmer, more personal, and more human way of answering this question instead of interpreting and answering this question as a "tell me about all the great things you did." I love this method! If it were me hiring, this is what I would want to hear from the candidate, and not "all the great things you did. I know your great, that's why I called you in for an interview" kinda thing. Thank you for this great and insightful video!

Today I had a job interview. Thanks to you, I was prepared for anything that could happen and had a plan, detailed like the one they had to invade Normandy back then. It turned out a walk in the park. Easiest ever and I think this was so easy, because I knew exactly, that with the prep you provided for free here, I will be safe no matter what. Normally I am overexcited, fearful and make mistakes in interviews based on my insecurity. None of this today. I copied your bodylanguage and way of talking, as you are an absolute pro in communication

This is such a dangerous question for an employer to ask as it opens them up to such risk. “Tell me about yourself” invites a person to give interests/associations/details that, if the recruiter doesn’t hire the candidate, puts the company at risk for discrimination accusations. “Oh they didn’t hire me because I told them I was involved with X.”
I really appreciated how Don made this about the professional journey without going into the truly personal.

I must say, THIS is the answer that simply resonated and made the most sense to me. I have another channel I subscribe to and I've been watching DOZENS of videos in preparation for an upcoming series of interviews. The other channel is good, however, that channel offers a rapid-fire reply of generic positive attributes about myself that I personally wouldn't feel comfortable saying. This is by FAR a better fit for me and these 15 minutes gave me a boost and direction to take when this question is asked. Thank you Don.

What makes things even more difficult for me is that practically every employer uses them - they're a really big thing here in the UK! HI Mr Don,
I have been searching for the answer of this question Tell me about yourself. I found many of the interview coaches saying that we must focus on our accomplishments and experiences to sell ourselves in the answer of this question.
Last month I went for an interview with a multinational company . When the HR guy asked me this particular question i told him my story how did i enter into the health and safety field and how i helped organizations and workers to stay safe.
But i felt by the end of my answer everybody in the interview panel was boored to death.
I think they are not sitting to listen to the stories. They want us to show them our skills and accomplishments and what values we can bring for that particular organization.

they don't want to hear about skills and accomplishments with "tell me about yourself" when they want to hear about skills, they ask you to tell me your greatest accomplishments. those are two different questions.

You are the first person in many years that says to go back to childhood or Highschool, they don’t have time for that. As an IT Director, I don’t want to hear this when I do interviews.

Mr. Don i always used to follow your above mentioned approach but here is my own take of tell me about yourself answer... In the start of your career when you dont have to talk alot about your professional career yes you should start with your earliest days and inspirations etc but when u are interviewed for a senior level position i suppose they dont expect you to tell when did u start and how you got inspired they are actually looking out for what you have achieved so far in your career and there is a difference in the two phases... A young graduate can talk about his early childhood stories and people listen to him and often be careful but if you are 35 yr old story teller they wont even bother going back to your early career.... they will get bored to the point of indifference...

Of course, the interview panel might have gone through about background information like name and nationality, and city/country where we reside, etc. I would like further know that can we start our introduction by telling our name and Nationality or country we reside, please advise thank you.

I had an interview 2 days ago. Two Interviewers, both about 20 yrs old, and both primarily interested in wanting me to tell personal, not work things about myself. I think it's more about finding followers and social clique fit.

I told the actual hiring manager at Petco corporate on how I started my product development career after my internship @ a fortune 500 corporate office , the experiencewas directlyrelatedtothe positioni applied, she cut me off and said we might be running out of time! I was rejected but I treated it as my warm up interview for my next dream job interview coming up
    I don't have a pet anyway
