    The production cuts out Dr. Manhattan's best lines in this chapter: "I've walked across the surface of the Sun. I've observed events so infinitesimal they could be said not to have happened at all. But you? You are just a man. And this world's smartest man means no more to me than does its smartest termite."

    It’s the most amazing motion comic conversion I have ever seen.

    • @periodicpete
      @periodicpete 5 лет назад +8

      @Stellvia Hoenheim Wouldn't the high production value be even less reason to justify it?
      For all the budget that went into everything else, they couldn't afford a single extra voice actress?

      Super man Red Son is good too

    • @periodicpete
      @periodicpete 5 лет назад +4

      @Degree7 Why is having a single voice actor more preferable?
      Why are the only options to have a single voice actor for all the characters or one voice actor for every character?
      Why can't it be something in between?
      And how would having more voice actors be more distracting than a single voice actor doing every voice, even the women?

    • @periodicpete
      @periodicpete 5 лет назад +1

      @Degree7 How would that cause disruption in the flow of voices?
      Is that not something that can be fixed through editing?
      Why isn't this same disruption not present in other productions with multiple voice actors?
      Also, do females not generally sound feminine?
      Is it that much harder to find a female voice actor that sounds feminine than it is to find a male voice actor that sounds feminine?
      Why is it sexist to want a female to do female characters?
      Is that any more sexist than wanting a male to do male characters?

    • @periodicpete
      @periodicpete 5 лет назад +1

      @Degree7 First of all, this isn't an audio book. Motion comics are drastically different from Audio books in terms of production and have a much larger budget because of that.
      Second, this goes to show what you know about motion comics because most have more than one voice actor. Superman Red Son, Batman Black and White, Ultimate Wolverine vs Hulk, Iron Man Extremis, these are all motion comics with more than one voice actor and I can list off more if you want.
      Third, the audio editing process for most productions involving multiple voice actors tends to be very similar to one another, regardless if it's a movie, cartoon, or motion comic. So I ask once again: What disruption are you referring to and how can't it be fixed through editing?
      Fourth, don't straw man me. I never said I needed a full cast. There are plenty of voiced productions that reuse voice actors while still keeping everyone sounding unique because of the talent of the cast. Find one female voice actress who has even half as much talent as the guy they have working here already and I think I'd be fine.
      Fifth, stop straw-manning me. I never said all female voice actresses had to voice exclusively female characters. But generally, females will sound more feminine than males will, which is why most productions will pick female voice actresses for female characters. That's why I suggested hiring a female voice actress because they'd more likely sound the part of most female characters than most male actors would. Certainly not the guy they already have.
      And finally, maybe if you took the time to read my comment for more than a few seconds you might actually understand what I'm trying to say instead of some fallacious misinterpretation.

    I love the Irony of Veidt’s plan , and the brilliance of Allan Moore: To stage an alien invasion (a traditional comic book/sci fi gimmick) in order to save the world from nuclear war (a very real possibility during the Cold War) is highly symbolic. This series really flips the tables the superhero narrative genre. Next to The Incal, Watchmen is my favorite comic.

    I love how they all start to compromise and Rorschach still sticks to his values.
    He was a man who had such a grim view of human beings, thought they were selfish and cruel. We never see him witness kindness from one person to another that was not Nite Owl.
    And yet... and yet he was the one who could not stand by as others were silent of Veidt's crimes. Maybe he thought back to those people in the apartments who were silent.
    Still, this man who saw nothing redeemable about humans, was the one who stood up for them when all the other heroes fell silent.

    • @dodec8449

      The people in the appartments were silent for a different reason. They wouldn't start a nuclear war when helping Kitty Genovese.

      Rorschach was morally superior, he was extremist with criminals because they deserved it. Yeah, he got out of hand with Moloch, and his biggest flaw were his political ideas (Alan Moore said that), he even defend The Comedian only because he worked for the government. I mean, I'm right-winger but I would never accept any kind of abuse of power.

    • @naejimba
      @naejimba 5 лет назад +41

      To Sir Nils Olav and Samir Mayhua, first I would ask, was he really standing up for humans? Those 3 million were already dead, sticking to his inflexible code would only mean the rest of humanity would die. Placed in such a situation it is the most logical course to take if you value human life. Even Jon who is largely uncaring about humanity and its affairs could see that clearly. He doesn't care as much about humans as he despises what he thinks is immoral and wanting evil to be punished. He would rather all of humanity die if one person he deemed evil could be punished.
      I do not think he was "morally superior," as Samir claims. He talks about one instance in which he hurt 14 people needlessly to get information. Remember the story about Captain Carnage? The man who pretended to be a super villain only so he could live out his masochistic fantasies? Rorschach killed him by dropping him down an elevator shaft. Given his psychology I imagine he would have been disgusted by the sexual nature of his act.
      He brutally killed those two dogs because of the crimes of their owner. Along with his heavy handed treatment of the elderly Moloch, who was no longer a villain mind you, he chastised him for illegal prescription painkillers and an unregistered weapon. Neither of these have to do with his personal code, but rather, are simply enforcing the rules of society.... which he breaks constantly. He was quite hypocritical, specifically making exceptions for the Comedian, describing his attempted rape as a "moral lapse," yet he would never show one of his victims the same sympathy.
      Sure, we tend to have respect for those who live by a code. However, his code included torture and murder.... a code is simply a set of rules that is separate from morality. They can either align with moral behaviors or not. This is why he was able to have such an appreciation for the Comedian, who was the most amoral character in the comic.

Rosarch's last entry made absolutely no reference to Veit's genetic monster and even if Veit were to be charged with murdering Comedian and the other people he killed to keep quiet, it wouldn't be enough to cancel out his plan to trick the world. If Rorshac got to New York and spoke to the Government about Veits plan and tell his journal then they would belive him and would end differently. It makes sense that only a genius such as Veit could do such thing and desing the giant genetic monster and Rorshac could tell the journal from the very begging to the end and pinpoint the location of Veits hideout and the government would eventually check it out and belive Rorshacs evidence.

      There is only Alan Moore’s Watchmen. Everything else is DC/HBO profiting off the Watchmen brand by churning out schlock. Don’t pretend the HBO series is canon just because Damon Lindadorf and DC tells you it is. Watchmen was written as a standalone work without prequels/sequels. That’s the vision that shaped it, that’s the context through which to understand it.

      @Foul Gerbil "great reverence" In what respect? Because a costume doesn't include nipples and they included the squid monster? Those are details. Story/Theme matters more. Thematically, Watchmen (1986/2009) was a masterpiece of conflicting existentialist philosophies and an psychological exploration of the superhero confined to real human dilemmas. It reads like a great Russian novel. This new show is cheap PC drivel.

      Informal Geek People are acting like the original Watchmen wasn’t political, which it is. It’s a series that deals with the Cold War and the fear of nuclear war wiping everyone out, a very common fear many people had during the time period. It has always been a comic that deals with political issues. If you want a comic that still delves in the whole “fear of global superpowers” thing, read Doomsday Clock, though it’s less relevant. The HBO series dealt with more pressing issues that were and currently are still going on in America. In the words of the film: “The times they are a-changing”

The reason why its pirates is because superheroes are now uncool because of the real world events with in watchmen so people now do pirates. The story goes of a man who tried to save his village but became the evil he was trying to stop in the process. Like how Adrien tried to save everyone from the evil of mass destruction bur by doing so became the evil and realized what he did at the end. Which is why the last pannel of him shows him with his head to the wall alone and disconnected from the rest of the world.

      Instead for what he did, he would give the world years of peace... or inclusive decades, Ozy is more hero than Rorscharch, Nite Owl or other character in the novel (And im saing this being Rorscharch my fav character)

    Why didn't they get any female voice actors like everyone's sounds the same? Wait cuz they are played by the same person but not like in an audiobook? I mean the animation is surprisingly pretty great but the voice acting got some work to do.

    Rorschach was an amazing hero. With all his faults he clung to his ideals and beliefs above all else. But it wasn't enough. And no matter how sad i was about his death, He knew he wouldn't want to live in the Utopia. He must have known someone was going to stop him. I admire him for that. Keeping true to who you are till the end.

      @@corning1 "Possible" peace, indeed... a peace based on lies and genocide. When people think of Rorschach as a bad guy for not wanting peace based on lies and genocide, that says more about them than it says about Rorschach. Rorschach may have been a scarred man, but he had a moral purity that was lacking in the other Watchmen. And he's by far one of my favorites because of that...

    • @ischeele7203

      @@OutOfTheBoxThinker But isn't that the mark of a true hero? The willingness to carry such mountainous sins on your back, staining your conscience for the rest of your life so that everyone else may live to see a better tomorrow?
      Regardless of what you think of Veidt's plan, those 3 million people are dead; exposing it will not only make their deaths meaningless, it'll turn the _possible_ peace into an assuredly finite one.
      Rorschach didn't care about everyone else; he just wanted to appease his own sense of moral superiority. And ultimately, that's really the point of his character.
      The black-and-white morality of superhero comics of the day, where good people are good, and bad people are bad, where the right thing is assuredly the right thing, and the wrong thing is definitely wrong, would not hold up in any world resembling ours. Yes, you fought for the truth; but you killed the human race and doomed the planet. "Moral purity" is certainly a common concept... But it cannot be found anywhere in Watchmen.
