Yea I was just about to ask why Odenkirk would be talking about these things. I like the guy, but I have a feeling he wouldn't be venturing into race waters, saying the things he's saying here. It's pretty good, the AI. I am also terrified.
honestly I thought it was real on the belief that maybe he just really liked the graphic novel. Then he said "Loli will talk about that later" and the bamboozlement was made clear lol
Also on a side note to the Rorsach stuff, I always took the final pages as a testament to his character. Even after he made a big deal out of how much he hated the people of the city and how he wouldn't save them, when the chips were down he decided to die for them. Personally I always took it as Rorsach being at least somewhat a good person behind all his misanthropy and trauma.
I think way too many people overlook the significance of Rorschach's confrontation with the prostitute mother late in the story. She's nothing like his own mother, and he sees that.
@@LevantineR1 Yeah, that was my take from that scene too. At first he saw her as being like his mother but the second he called her a whore and she said "Don't say that, my kids don't know" is when it was clear she wasn't. His mom did nothing to hide this fact from him, he has caught her and has had nightmares about it, meanwhile this mom did and was actually trying to protect her kids. I imagine that's why he leaves, he realizes the land lady isn't the type of person he assumed.
Rorsach didn't die for the people. He died beacuse he couldn't cope with reality. That's why he removes his mask dying as Walter J Kovacs, the crazy little man and not Rorsach the "uncomprmised" vigilante
@theunknownuser9609 he explicitly went out of his way to try to stop Ozy or at least make sure he was punished for what he did and that's why he was killed. It's not ignoring reality, it's taking a stance based on his morals.
@@jamesmcdonald1108and to get a bit more into what I think is the heart of the comment, if not wanting to just roll over and go along with Ozymandius' plan because he succeeded in the false attack and revealing the truth after the fact would just make all the death's "pointless" is being "unable to face reality" then yeah, I can see why he'd rather die then live in that reality.
I realized something a while ago. The actual contents of a source material is irrelevant; hollywood writers can turn anything into a ridiculous, convoluted soap opera. And they'll give it a nice injection of modern day propaganda for good measure.
I think the reason Rorschach became so popular is because 1) his mask is cool & 2) back in the 80s Alan Moore was a good enough writer that he knew to make his characters interesting even if he didn't like them. Rorschach isn't just a cartoon strawman who gets off at the thought violating civil rights. He's a flawed, traumatized person who thinks he's doing the right thing. That's why Watchmen is so popular and stayed popular as long as it has.
I think the main reason Rorschach is the most popular character of the story is because he is the only character who holds true to his principles. The only character who never compromises.
Frankly, I think Alan's recent quotes about Rorschach is historical revisionism. I think Moore is a loon but he's not an incompetent writer. I refuse to believe he screwed up making a character that represents everything he reportedly despises into such a sympathetic character. I think he started getting backlash by his ancap peers and started this story about how Rorschach's positive reception was unintended.
@@PepsiMan666 I think he always intended for Rorschach to be wrong, but he left it open for the reader to decide if they agreed. Alan Moore used to do that with stories like V for Vendetta which he said it was up to the reader to decide whether or not V was right.
I agree and there are scenes in the comic that support this. The biggest one being the interactions Rorschach has with the Psychiatrist while he is in prison. The psychiatrist is first shown as a self centered guy who only wants to interview Rorschach to further his own career instead of actually helping him. However, after listening to Rorschach, the psychiatrist is shown to become more sympathetic to others to the point where he is trying to help strangers before the squid attack. The second instance is where Rorschach returns to his apartment to get his costume and ends up confronting the lady who was lying about him on the news. Instead of dispensing "Justice" as an unhinged extremists would have, he instead walks away and lets the issue go. That was a moment of self restraint that a character who was not suppose to be a hero would not have done. So ya, Alan Moore is just trying to do some political backtracking. @@PepsiMan666

I'll never forget being on the hellsite formerly known as Twitter, and someone saying that they hated the original Watchmen because "it's racist" and saying how much they liked this show. Trust me guys, once you leave that site, you will genuinely start to feel better about life and other people. We humans are not meant to be subjected to such ... paste-eating opinions in such a quantity for such a prolonged period of time.
I never joined in the first place. I spent some time on the site without an account, but it was pretty obvious that arguments there never convince anyone.
The idea of Dr. Manhattan being so in love with a woman that he not only gives himself amnesia but also race changes himself is so absurd its frankly offensive, none the less for a dull as dishwater woman, whose biggest feat is her melanin levels. Also doesn't this technically mean Dr. Manhattan is blackfacing?
It's dumb just by the fact that Manhattan is supposed to be so far gone in terms of being a "human" that one would have to ask, why is he even here? Manhattan was barely holding on to his humanity and was at the point where he really didn't care anymore. He specifically said at the end of the comic/movie that he was gonna leave earth and stay out of human affairs. To even have Manhattan come back in such a short time just spits on the original material. Even if he did return, there is zero reason he'd take the form of normal person. In all his time since gaining his powers he never altered his blue form to try and fit in as a normal person. Manhattan was barely holding on to his humanity and was at the point where he really didn't care anymore.
@@Zikk0_o The comic did have a similar thing to it where Manhattan, despite having this near omniscience before Ozymandias started messing around with tachyons, kept going after young women to the point of engaging in infidelity. Sort of like that his thirstiness kept him tethered to humanity. So this seems pretty on brand for the character. I guess that also makes that Robot Chicken sketch a pretty accurate portrayal of him too.
@@crazyinsane500 Yes, but by the time he leaves Earth after the attack, he's pretty much done with humanity. He says that he's going to create life in another galaxy.
@@Galvatronover Same reason he did an infidelity as a nearly godlike being: Guy wants some tail. Or at least that's what's confirmed by him going back to Earth to get some in the show. Kinda undermines the whole cosmic aspect to the character, doesn't it?
Then he goes on to complain about the most prevalent interpretations despite his writing pushing viewers to that interpretation. Why should I care that Rorshach is some overzealous wacko when his obsessions are the ONLY thing that even attempt to stop Veidt's plan?
He and his friends also made an entire "documentary" about him where they just sat around and mocked him for a couple of hours. Be pretty ironic if someone did the same to him.

The way Alan Moore wrote Rorschach reminds of how the director of Elite Squad (the brazilian film) wanted to portray the main character as a psycho abusive policeman, but the audience ended up loving him, because he... beats the shit out of favela cartel leaders, who kill and robs people like the audience. Both Alan Moore and Padilha are very talented individuals but they live in a bubble, and accidentaly delievered beloved characters unintentionally.
I just think it's telling that Rorschach was supposed to be disliked for... Murdering pedophiles and serial killers, standing against a genocidal madman, and dying for what he thought was right, despite all his character flaws?
It still baffles me that movie director and main actor are commies. That is one of the most based movies ever made, how much commie brain rot it takes to watch that and think Captain Nascimento is the bad guy? The second movie tackles the problem of political corruption, in a country with over 30 parties, most being shades of red and the most corrupt of all being the labor party. Some even say the labor party's "petrolão" was the biggest corruption scam in history.
Granted by the end of Elite Squad 2 he was fighting corrupt cops and actively working with his ex-wife’s leftist BF to topple corruption in the Brazilian government
@@getthegoons also, really gives you a look into Alan Moore's soul if he'd considered that was something to be derided and balked at and insulted or dismissed
The thing is, the show actually could've actually said something about the hardships of black communities. That would've required them to be critical of the government and maybe even black communities themselves, so instead they took the cheap route and made trailer trash the bad guys. The American government has absolutely done some shady, terrible, and even racist things. However that would require legitimately critical thought and could've been, dare I say, controversial.
You don't even need to make up half the shit this show does. There's enough real racist awful things the government did to black people that can fill entire fucking novels.
Boondocks did a much better job. Hell, MLK Jr. even comes back from the dead and criticizes the black community rather harshly for their failings. But you can tell that the show is done by blacks who care about their communities.
This is a weird complaint. The original comic was never about individual hardships of specific communities. It was about fascism being the dominant force in a world filled with masked vigilantes and cults of personalities that are inherent to authoritarians. The third cavalry being trailer trash secretly controlled by cyclops is really on point for watchmen. Rorshach was a far right extremist who hated all types of minorities and anybody that wasn't as extreme as him. Like he shares his distaste for women and minorities multiple times. Its not like its a secret. We also see that his journal is filled with classic fascist conspiracy theories and is a jumbled mess because he is so mentally unwell. Then when he dies he literally sends his journal off to an 80s version of the daily stormer. And they can't even figure out what he is trying to expose because its just the scribbles of a right wing mad man.
@@kingpinavatar The point is that this show is about trailer trash and that doesn't say anything about society. They started saying something about the government around the end, about their willingness to cover up what they want. But then the show immediately switches to a flat power-hungry villain. The original Watchmen comic was a Satire of society at large. The show has a basic ass message of "racism bad" and I've seen that same topic covered with more grace in kids' shows.
thats because you have a decent head on your shoulders and dont view the world like Alan Moore views the world. His intent from the beginning was Rorschach was the villain, Ozy was the hero.
Is he? From what I saw in this video, the only thing about Rorshach is that racists like him. It doesn't seem to be about him at all. Unless the show says something specific?

This wasn't mentioned in the video, but Jackie Earle Haley is actually a big fan of the Watchmen comics. He sent an audition tape where he quoted Rorshach's beginning monologue wearing a bootleg version of the iconic mask he made himself. He's also did his own fight scenes in the film, as he's actually a black belt in kenpo and taekwando, and did his own fight scenes, but inegrated a sloppy form of boxing into his fighting style, as Rorschach is a boxer in the comics.
Good shit. Couldn't agree more about stopping the hatewatch trend. Nobody owes bad media and creators who actively despise them their time. I also think the writers are so terrified of AI because you could absolutely use existing footage as training data to fix these kinds botched movies/series.

There does seem to be some hate towards traditionally heroic characters from a lot of writers. It's like their world view is so cynical that they can't even imagine that some people do good things just to do good. That not everyone is some kind of horrible hate monster deep down. I've never really cared much for that narcissistic view on humanity.
They can't imagine any other personality, but their own.. I see everywhere nowadays.. And they are all the same self important, stupid af, nasty af, and just a general pos.. It's even in the games from the west now
Even Rorschach who had a bleaker view of humanity than any of the other characters (justifiably so given his life experience) still layed down his life to bring Adrian to justice for his atrocities, making him ironically inspirational.
It’s why I can’t stand modern Superman stuff. People are just so damn bitter and cynical they can’t believe someone being truly altruistic because he loves people. At this point we might as well live in the grim dark future of the 41st millennium.

Rorschach is a jaded conspiracy theorist that gets proven right at every turn in the story and is the only one with the balls to blow the lid on one of the greatest atrocities even committed. How exactly did Allen Moore think he was even a parody? Let alone a villain?
He doesn't think he's a villain, that's straight up a mischaracterization. It's that his objectivist worldview leaves very little grey area between the worst of the worst, and literal saints. He's also adjacent to all the other Randian bs, but he does seem to have a good head on his shoulders. The point is, that even if what he's doing is right, it's actively making his life worse.
@thisgoddamusernamestoofuck2694 Allen Moore has expressed outright disgust at the idea people like Rorschach. Doesn't seem like the actions of a man that doesn't see a character as a villain.
I remember going to see Watchmen in the theaters back when it first came out. Having zero knowledge of the graphic novel, I didn't know what to expect. Rorschach was by far my favorite part of the film and his speech on never compromising even in the face of Armageddon stuck with me all of these years later.
little did you know that Rorschach was the villain the piece you were supposed to hate and Ozy was the hero... 'Schach had all the qualities that the writer/creator hated and attributed to right wing people. essentially he was the right wing boogeyman/strawman. of course this was the comic and the movie adaptation differs a bit.

I mean it’s not hard to see why as the guy was more of a hero than the others and his greatest trait about himself was that more than anything else, he would never have compromised his principles even in the face of Armageddon. In short: Rorschach did nothing wrong.

Sure that would have had major negative consequences but he went down doing what he thought was best for the world. It is so obvious and makes Moore look so out of touch that I can't help but think that this is Moore finding reasons to bitterly shit on his audience/DC comics in retrospect again like he does every now and then and not something he really intended from the start.
Sorry but a character that kills a child molester/murderer because he knows the guy is just going to be cycled in and out of the prison system, will never be a bad guy to me
I mean i feel like the reason for that is because he was apprehended by a vigilante lol. Rorschach is kinda solving a problem that only exists because he's doing vigilante work
I always found it funny how Rorschach is hands down the biggest example of death of the author when it comes to the character's portrayal. Alan Moore wanted his readers to view Rorschach as this sociopathic right wing racist but instead he comes off as the most redeemable character in the graphic novel who was willing to die for his beliefs that a lie shouldn't be kept for the sake of a fragile alliance between the superpowers of the world. The fact that the HBO series went with Moore's take on the character and not the audience's views that has analyzed him for over 25 years, shows how out of touch the show really is. Edit: Made the comment before finishing the whole video, so Loli hits the same beats as I did, but you get the point.
Oh he's definitely a bigoted right-wing fascist character. He only looks good because all the other characters are either spineless, indifferent, or mass murderers.
Death of the author has been destroyed in recent times to make games fit the far lefts narrative, so I am glad that this example still holds up. Seriously if I see someone claim Fallout I'd about how evil America is again in gonna snap
The villains following Rorschach is ironic when you learn that Alan Moore originally intended Rorschach as a critique of Randian Objectivist heroes like Mr. A, but the character ended up being the most traditionally heroic member of the entire cast.
@@murderman8578 The writers of Watchmen 2019 made the villains followers of Rorschach because they were driven by the same political bias that Alan Moore had against the characters Rorschach was based on. @@murderman8578Because objectivism focuses very heavily on morality and what is good and evil and that both should be treated as they deserve to be. Tried to make him a vicious sociopath but ended up making him the most heroic of the main cast by refusing to follow through on Ozymandias' plan. Moore kinda messed up there if he was trying to argue heroes keeping the truth behind the deaths of millions a secret was a good thing.
Alan Moore created a character to make fun of the uncompromising hero by making him a murderous psychopath that refuses to ever change in anyway. Then makes him somehow one of the more morally upstanding people in the book and is perspective is completely understandable. Not to mention gives him a backstory where he feels completely justified in how he turned out. His worst traits are either implied (or told to us) like his racism and sexism or don't seem that bad in such a horrible world. Then his best traits are highlighted throughout most of the story since he's the only one trying to do anything. He's the only person to not give into apathy and is still trying. His ideals are SO strong that he sticks to his guns and never compromises even in the face of Armageddon. Then is not only surprised that some people like the character but is angry that they do. Dude is either salty that people connect more with his parody character or believes they morally incorrect. Either way I'm happy cause Alan Moore is insane and it's fun to see him freak out about people not interrupting the character he wanted. The very reason he created this character is because he didn't see Steve Ditkos character the way Steve Ditko intended.
And then there's Alan Moore mocking another author: Robert E. Howard, creator of Conan The Barbarian. Mocking him post-suicide, saying his mental breakdown from watching his mother slip away in hospital (she was in a coma at the time) proved how fake his hyper-masculine ideals were. Yikes!
@@thedarkmasterthedarkmaster Appaling but true. Now I regret ever thinking he was worthy of respect having been an artistic pioneer. But sometimes the best craftsmen turn out to be the worst individuals.
Jean Cocteau once wrote: "The worst tragedy for a poet is to be admired through being misunderstood." Alan Moore wrote Rorschach as a parody of Steve Ditko's objectivist and the heroes he used as his mouthpiece: Mr. A and The Question, both of whom were insane fascists. The reason Moore's character was so well-received while Ditko's characters were savaged is because Ditko couldn't back up his characters with things like good writing or characterization. Consider that Spider-Man, Ditko's greatest achievement, is the complete antithesis of his own personal views and if Ditko had had his way with him, he would've ended up like the other characters he wrote: mocked and condemned to obscurity, at least until a competent writer got a hold of them. As much as Moore hated Ditko's views and characters, he refused to settle on making a blatant, on-the-nose parody and instead gave Rorschach the characterization Ditko refused to give his own, because he refused to compromise his own principles. Sound familiar? It's not Moore's fault for being a good writer. This is same thing that happened with the DC character Lobo, who was written specifically to parody the hyper-violent edgy antihero archetype that characters like Rorschach, The Comedian, The Punisher, Deadpool and Frank Miller's Batman would eventually popularize in the 90's. Ironically, despite having been written as an ironic, satirical character, fans took the satire at face value and he became just as popular as the antiheroes he was made to mock. If a writer has to blatly announce his views on a character or idea with a big fat sign rather than with an engaging and entertaining story, then that says more about the reader's intelligence than it does about the writer's skills. In a rare twist, Rorschach's popularity is in equal parts because of Moore's writing skills as much as it is in spite of said skills.
You can tell how terrible this show was when the creator of the abortion uses his father's death to defend this from anyone who dares to criticize how racist this show is.
It must be AI, but the speech sounded so real. The little intermittent breaths throughout the sentences, the slight stumbling over words here and there. It sounds legit.
There's something delightfully ironic about Moore writing Rorschach as a critique of objectivism but then being upset when people end up agreeing with Rorschach because Moore believes and intends for him to be "objectively" wrong.

I know we talk about how this show wasted Regina King, but Wokemen also wastes Hong Chau as an actress. She was amazing in The Menu and The Whale; she's an incredible actress, but she's wasted as this generic villain who just wants to beat Dr. Manhattan and take his powers. I also want to bring something up, too: it's very subtle, but Watchmen does imply that Laurie wanted to take her father's mantle as the Comedian in the final scene of the comic, a after she and Night Owl visit Sally Jupiter; she talks about wanting a new costume that included a mask and guns. It's a very brief line, but it is there. What I don't get is why Laurie would have such a hate boner against vigilantes when the end of Watchmen outright states that she and Night Owl are still acting as costumed superheroes, which was why they had to assume new identities to begin with, which itself doesn't make sense, since I imagine the US Government would want to keep tabs on the US's former nuclear deterant and ace-in-the-whole. It doesn't make sense to me. Also, despite Watchmen's 1985 being pushed forward technologically, you see fuck all trace of that in this show. Where are the floating blimps and electric cars? What happened to the signs of Utopia that were in the end of the comic? Why would Dr. Manhattan leave Earth and Laurie when he's going to come back to Earth just so he can bang a black chick, and why did he have to make himself black in order to do that? EDIT: As a black man, thank Christ someone finally addressed all that shit behind the Tulsa Massacre. A few minutes of research would reveal that Wokemen's interpreation of the massacre and people's lack of information on it has been skewed in order to incite anger in woke people. Thank you for clarifiying that.
If it helps, I believe that Dan and Laurie got caught at some point and where strongarmed into being government agents. Dan said no (Hence why you don't see him in this show.) Laurie said yes. As for the technology, in universe they tried to get rid of that Dr. Manhattan made. Out of fear that it was extremely carcinogenic. Remember the last time the general public saw Dr. Manhattan he was on a TV show and was accused of giving a bunch of people cancer where he had a big freak out over it. You do see bits of the alt-tech thing going on. Ever notice that all the computers are old MS-DOS ones from the 80's? But we can add the fact that technology stagnated due to people growing to reliant on Dr. Manhattan to the ever-growing pile of actually interesting things this show could have covered.
Alan legite didn’t realize how much better of a character Rorschach is for being a nutcase with a very awful personality, it shows he still knows what is right, at no point do you see him go after gay people or minorities, he targets child predators, people you cannot sympathize with, it’s insane to think he tried to make him unlikeable but gave him such strong conviction.
Alan Moore: Wants to make people consider Rorschach as a bad person and hate him. Also Alan Moore: Made Rorschach a guy with uncompromising morality (albeit verbally bigot at times) who only targets bad people.
He's not a nutcase. And he isn't racist either. His internal turmoil and self loathing does not synergize with his moral compass, decision making, or thought process. His mind is like a living hell that he lives in. He still manages to be functional to the point of solving complex crimes and interacting with his team members as a professional crime fighter. He's not a bad guy. His subconscious is violent but that doesn't mean he agrees with anything it says. That wouldn't make him crazy either. He eats uncooked beans because he never got over the guilt of losing that girl and he hates himself for it. Every action he commits to outside of wearing his mask is an act of self loathing. He wants to die, but not at the expense of him not being around to take out awful people. He took his mask off when Manhattan killed him because he was finally able to redeem himself as himself without the mask. He stood up to a God as the man he always wanted to be but couldn't let free

I don't have a problem with critics from our side of the aisle watching and reviewing it since otherwise it is just the bought out critics and far lefty reviewers who will praise something just because it agrees. Otherwise people won't be able to point out why it sucks, normies might make it popular if they think it looks good, and TAL would be hypocritical for covering it at all. It shouldn't be hate watched by the people who would probably disagree with it though so I agree there.
I really like how you tackle the whole hate watch mindset that people just must see a new piece of media even if it’s bad and actually hates the viewer, more people need to stop hate watching because it’s basically just consuming junk food and doing nothing but eating junk food is not healthy

I despise the fact my Caucasian American counterparts are really fighting against an objective view of our history be it in a tv show or in real life. How sad! In the words of Donald Trump
Had no idea Allan Moor intended Rorschach is the villain, I seriously thought he was pushing something more complex, sure Rorschach is an insane asshole, but it really seemed like in a world as insane as he is, he would be the natural hero
I feel "intended Rorschach to be the villain" is a bit overstating it a little. I think like the rest of the crimebusters/minutemen Rorschach was intended to a flawed kook whose simplistic moral and worldview just doesn't in the real world. Rorschach is just more flawed, repulsive and demented than the rest because Moore doesn't respect him or what he represents. But to Moore's credit as a writer Rorschach - while a send up of Mr A - doesn't feel like a caricature because too much of a pro to leave him as that. I think Loli right in that the context of the world around him that make Rorschach more... admirable than Moore intended. The one way he could be considered "The villain" depends on what you believe the effects of his journal is: If you believe it's the wetch in Ozymandias and set the dominoes to nuclear war then, yeah, Rorschach the dumb arsehole who ruined everything and dooms the world. On the other hand if you believe Ozymandias plan is vain deluded madness I duded by doom mongering hysteria and a God complex then the Journal exposes the bastard as the mass murder he is. In that context Rorschach actions and instinct to not compromise the truth - for all his sins - is ultimate meaningful. Virtuous. Heroic even. Whether the world knows or a small bunch of kooks. Or maybe the journal has no effect. That Rorschach life amount nothing more than killing a tiny percent of the world's criminal. Drop in the ocean in the grand scale of things. All sound and fury. Signifying nothing.
I hadn't read the comic or even heard of it before I saw the movie. I just viewed it as a dark and gritty take on the genre. Maybe I'm just a simpleton but even though he had some issues, I walked away feeling like Rorschach was the "good guy" in the end and was bummed he got liquefied. Most of the "heroes" in the story were dealing with each other, where he was actually trying to save people and make the world as better place in the end. His tactics may have been questionable, but in that setting and circumstance... A lot going on there.
I always saw it as “how bad have things gotten that THIS is the best man around?” To me it was never the point to notice how bad Rorschach was but to notice how evil the world that created him is
Saying you're an Anarcho-Communist is like saying you're a meat eating vegan. Yeah I hate the government, so I adhere to a system that requires strict governing over wealth.
Fuck me I should have known the channel called "AlmightyLoli" was gonna be filled with shit takes. 😮💨 Listen, try learning about Communism from actual Communists. Communism is, based on my base knowledge of Marx, the aspirational "end goal". The end goal being a STATELESS society. By definition, Anarchist. What you're talking about is just a Socialist state, or more accurately, "State Capitalist". The whole point of Communism is for the WORKERS to own the means of production. Not private individuals or corporations. And not governments. And even your perception of the "tyranny" of Socialist countries is a product of Western Propaganda. Every nation creates propaganda, and you are certainly not immune to it. And if you wanna talk about the tyranny imposed by Socialist states, then I'd ask you if you're willing to apply the same level of criticism to Capitalist/Imperialist states. Because Capitalism has a death rate too. And I can say with some confidence, it's higher than Communism. By several magnitudes.
Anarcho-communism is not a contradiction. A system where all economical and social aspects are managed by the state is called socialism. Communists believe a socialist state will gradually abolish its power once the system has stabilized, leading to a classless and stateless society; communism. Communists honestly believe communism is a totally free system and the way to achieve it is through socialism.
i think it fits fairly well with baseline human psychology. small groups capable of governing on principle rather than code due to basically no logistical or bureaucratic strain. warlords and strongmen hoooooooooo
The plot about the millionaire wanting to steal Dr. Manhattan's powers sounds so eerily similar to the same stupid plot for She-Hulk. At least on there it was played for "laughs". Edit: Just for clarification, at no point I'm advocating for She-Dull, I just find funny the similarity which is obviously an over simplification of the plot from my part.
Hey now, at least this show still has some redeeming qualities (even the author pointed them out) and good special effects, She-Hulk has none, being "played for laughs" or not, it's an utter trainwreck writing-wise and visually.
Makes me glad I tend to be apathetic towards any new shows nowadays. Even when people I watch bring up the woke, far-left elements, I just simply ignore it and move on, because there's no point in me indulging in something I know I won't like.
Hate hearing the w-word now. It's peak boomer buzzword that didn't die because we live in a world where a single woman couldn't handle criticism over her forgotten game.
A family friend tried to get me and my parents to watch this at his house (after we showed him episodes of The Prisoner 1967) and it was the most awkward thing ever. In the first or second episode there’s a sex scene in a closet which haunts me sometimes when I go to sleep. Watchman was so bad that it caused me to experience that existential horror where you watch your parents fumbling a social event the same way you have before and you feel dirty for being the quintessential fruit borne of their failures.
Is it wrong to enjoy just regular fun, adventurous comics than the continuous edginess being made to this day, there’s so much bleakness a person can take until the nihilism can make you depressed at every turn.
I started One Piece 'cause I just wanted a fun adventure to take my mind off the shit in the real world and the job I hated at the time. Worked like a charm.
@@BreakEm22 As opposed to what? Living and breathing passive-aggressive snobbery like you lot tend to bask in? Particularly towards those who hold contrarian opinions?
The whole point of Watchmen was that it was the exact opposite of a traditional comic book. Bad people doing bad things to debatably worse people in a world beyond salvation. Turning it into a traditional superhero narrative misses the point.
Walter Kovacs is a damn hero. Doomsday clock and this make him just seem like a villain. I'd love a comic series that has his complete story from his first day to the moment Manhattan atomizes him.
In the end he is the only one of the main cast who is willing to die for his principles. In his quest to provide humanity with the truth of what just happened to it, rather than letting it labour under a delusion, he stands up to a literal immortal god. And he doesn't even break eye contact. Genuinely inspirational.
Jews will never allow him to be seen as a hero. Literally IMHO they made that comic and this show to hammer it in. They literally made him a black guy (spoiler it's the therapist's son cosplaying him) in the comic and kkk wear his mask in the show
@@alphaotakux Yeah they kept saying that Kovacs was bad but I believe the therapist *was* looking for fame (given the world they were in and lack of good people) and they should have demonized ozymandias a lot more because essentially that was what caused nu-rosarach to go insane.
Alan Moore is so weird. He put alot time and effort into his works yet he disavows them for really petty or strange reasons. Also this show sounds like it was written by a room full of redditors who vaguely know the comics.
Seriously lol, and I’m saying this as a leftist how Moore managed to fumble his own narrative this horribly is comedic. I didn’t know Rorschach was even meant to be a right wing caricature. He always seemed like the only rational person in the story.
Something that made me incredibly sad when I went from the comics and movie to the 2019 Watchmen dumpster fire was that there was no longer any ambiguity. You can't have a character like Rorschach anymore, one that is a hilariously terrible stereotype strawman to some while being a legitimate hero with good morals to others. It's so painfully obvious how you're supposed to feel about characters now. There's no room for interpretation or seeing the good in bad characters or vice versa. Morality is a hardened pipe with which the bad writers hit you repeatedly over the head. You're not allowed to question, you're not allowed to think for yourself, you're not allowed to like the bad guy. You're only allowed to have one opinion, and that's the one the writers and director want you to have. An integral part of art is being lost. It's no longer about being posed with a question and left to think about it in uncomfortable silence. It's now about being screamed at by a mob in a way that makes you uncomfortable. Those are two very different things that "artists" today don't seem to understand.
Exactly! It makes we want to as offensive ve as possible, all the time. I'm so disappointed humanity is CLEARLY evolving backwards, and no one is trying to avoid it!
Yeah, I remember this show. It sounded like it was written by millennials on twitter, and was about as smart. Dr Manhattan literally teleports a mansion from earth to Europa, but can't just zap away the power stealing ray into the sun. Yep. Totally made sense.
It was a massive fumble and one of the biggest signs media is really taking a high dive into a shallow puddle. Not many franchises left to destroy just a few years later.
I recall reading some speculation that the "Tulsa attack planes" thing possibly came from the civilian plane that was surveilling the riot dropping message canisters to try and communicate with police on the ground. Since this was before radio was really viable as a method of communication, aircraft communication had to be made with signal flares or by dropping literal written notes inside of canisters onto the earth below, so to people on the ground, it may have been perceived as dropping bombs.

My man you nailed it at the end. I've said this during the star wars sequel crap. Entertainment should be treated like a novelty you put to the side. It's not your life to consume something just because you have love for an ip. That's why these companies buy these ips in the first place, to strongarm you into coming to them for that specific ip. Years of fans complaining about their franchises being ruined and I always ask the same thing "Then why are you still paying attention to them?" The usual response I get is that it's to stop others from feeding into the bad reboots, but I keep coming back to the same point. Just leave it alone. The amount of dedication fans have to franchises is what feeds into the success for these rehashes of old works. You get mad enough to keep an eye out for what they're doing, try to convince people not to watch it, usually leads to hate watching it to justify being mad at it or to prove you gave it a chance. Then you spend the rest of the time clashing with people who defend the soulless media that are only passionate about getting to fight someone over a damn movie. My belief on things is that you can't become so attached to something you can't let it go. If you dislike some new spin on an old brand, just walk away. Don't waste your time fuming or arguing, because you're showing that you can't ignore a piece of fiction. The trend of hating the rehashes while consuming every piece of bad new media and calling everyone else sheep makes me sick.

Alan Moore is kind of a nutter. He’d have no problem with killing off most of the world if it meant “ the greater good” for humanity and the planet. I like the movie’s message better.
26:08 This is actually quite a powerful moment in the review, especially with the soundtrack of SIlent Hill 2 where we see Saul Goodman explaining the Tulsa riots and talks about the dangers of emotional biases when one analyzes history. Well done, TAL.
@@dannyknightblade4592 I completely disagree with the notion that Rorschach was intended to be viewed as the villain, Moore has never said anything like that and the text doesn't support it. He's the protagonist of the story. That said, Rorschach is basically a serial killer, he's shown torturing innocent people for information. He doesn't bathe and owns only one set of clothes he doesn't wash. He's alienated everyone in his life with the exception of Dan, who he doesn't even respect enough to not repeatedly break into his home. He's a lot like Travis Bickle. Monologues a lot about corruption and wanting to clean the streets, and by the end he manages to do good. But Travis is an anti social weirdo who almost murders random politician for no reason and inspired the real life assassination attempt on President Reagan. Is Travis a villain? No, would you want to hang out with him, or anyone who strongly identified with him? I wouldn't.

I'm baffled by how not even the writer did not catch any of Watchmen's cues, at all. I suspect he only watched Snyder's movie. When you read the comic, everything just clicks and makes sense thematically. But also, it's great commentary on comic books and the genre of super hero. In this day and age, imagining a Watchmen sequel could make sense if you know how to make a careful analysis of the state of the genre in film. But clearly the real-life soyboy behind this show didn't catch the hints at all.
Despite their extreme and horrific flaws, The Comedian and Rorschach remain two of my favourite fictional characters of all time. Never gave this show a second of my time, but I always enjoy people ragging on it

@@Astorath_the_GrimAbsolutely not. Most adaptations of his work is brainless garbage. The only ones that don't absolutely suck are that one episode of Justice League and parts of the Zack Snyder Watchmen movie.
Alan Moore when the character with the badass design, best dialogue in the story and least hypocritical viewpoints ends up being the character he is most remembered for creating:
While I get what you mean by Doctor Manhatan fitting thematically, it really does ruin Ozymandias' plan. The whole reason it was a giant alien squid, basically an unknowable eldritch abomination, rather than anything more tangible, even a Klatuu style giant robot or something else to that effect, was becaus there is no arguing with a squid. There is no bargaining, there is no solution to this kind of interdimensional threat, other than global cooperation for the sake of preparing for the worst scenario, as it serves to people as proof that at any moment, the most unexpected, borderline apocalyptic thing can happen to anyone, to any country. The only way to respond to that, is to try and establish the best possible means to prepare for every scenario for the sake of avoiding human extinction the next time something like this happens, which means putting away the nukes and working together, becaus you're going to need your worst enemy's help against enemies you can't see coming and do not understand. More importantly, the squid dies. They can be killed. Whatever that thing was, whatever reason it came here for, whoever sent it if it was sent at all, can be beat! It looks to be a herculean effort to do it before such a thing wipes humanity out, but it is blatantly possible, because it died on its first attack. On the other hand, Doctor Manhattan is a man. He's a person. He is a terrifying person, akin to a God to most people, but that is exactly why he cannot fulfill the same role. If Doctor Manhattan attacked the entire world without warning, and without even giving a reasoning, then the reasonable response is not global cooperation. The reasonable response is figuring out what angered God, and trying to appease them. Worse, not only is Doctor Manhattan repeatedly, explicitly established to be an All-American God in mutliple ways, from "The Superman/God exists, and he is American" through his involvement with the Vietnam War, he was just recently very publically attacked by the American media who pulled such a vile stunt against him, that the last thing anyone knows of Doctor Manhattan before the attack, is that he got so pissed at how the media cornered him, that he disappeared. This means the entire world has reason to blame America for the global attacks, which in the movie are not limited to just one American city, cleanly putting the blame for all the dead people globablly at America's foot for creating Doctor Manhattan, but on top of that, God is angry. And God has been very publically angered by 'the capitalist pigs in the lying American media'. And you know how I brought up that the squid can be killed? The only thing everyone knows about Doctor Manhattan is that he is basically as invulnerable as he is all-powerful. He single handedly won a war, where every conceivable thing short of nuclear bombs were deployed straight at him, and all of it did absolutely nothing. The dude can change his size, multiply himself as many times as he wants, teleport... Really, it is painfully obvious this is not someone you can kill, no matter what you throw at them. Him being immortal isn't really a big revelation at the story. It's simply an extremely obvious fact, that sets up that the reason real reason Ozymadias pulled the "same accident" trick wasn't so he could kill Doctor Manhattan, but just to distract him briefly, because "the world's smartest man is no more threat to me than its smartest ant" is a surprise to no one in that world. The logical next thing to happen after this series of events is not the world coming together in a giant prayer circle and singing a song of love. The logical next step is the total, global cooperative annhilation of the United States of America, for not only did they birth a vengeful God, but they are for all that anyone could see, the primary reason said God is angry right now. The logical step, is to find whatever they can think of to appease Doctor Manhattan, and do it. Because global cooperation cannot beat Doctor Manhattan. Unlike the squid, there is no vain hope that they can prepare a weapon to kill the next one before it can do its damage. There is no sense of safety that maybe these things are limited to only one showing up at a time, only being able to do so much, and you can focus on relief efforts in the aftermath. Doctor Manhattan is a hopeless foe. Doctor Manhattan is for all intents and purposes the Biblical God in this world in terms of power, and as of Ozy's stunt, in psychology as well, unleashing a new flood in the form of a global attack to show his wrath. You can't cooperate against God. You can only kneel, and do what you think would make God happy. This is my one big complaint with the Zack Snyder adaptation. It's a fantastic movie in almost all other regards, but due to this one change, Ozymandias' plan falls apart, because with the Squid, there is reason to think that the wake-up call for the fragility of human existence would be followed by nations working together. Replacing the squid with Doctor Manhattan can only lead to a new age of Crusades.
Rorschach is not the perfect hero, but for a story which main appeal was to show superheros as "more human", he gets the worst treatment out of the cast. Both Moore and the showrunners throw shade at him,But Ozymandias and Dr. Manhathan get to not be condemn for their clearly despicable deeds. So We must agree to kill people that know the truth about conspiracy just because is convenient?. NO, I will not agree, if humanity is so evil to that degree then we deserved to be banished.

Rorschach is the best, no compromise.

Guess that adage "some of thebest things come out of accidents and mistakes" rings as loud as a county bell for this picture
@@DarkenedArc Remember when they used to sterilize black and Latino poor people because they were considered delinquents?
He's performance is iconic

@@murderman8578 The writers of Watchmen 2019 made the villains followers of Rorschach because they were driven by the same political bias that Alan Moore had against the characters Rorschach was based on. When you try to make a masked psychopath vigilante and accidentally create batman.
Yikes!

Jean Cocteau once wrote:
"The worst tragedy for a poet is to be admired through being misunderstood."
Alan Moore wrote Rorschach as a parody of Steve Ditko's objectivist and the heroes he used as his mouthpiece: Mr.

Also, if I don't see at least a few King of the Hill jokes at the expense of Oklahoma from the fans of this channel, I'll be gravely disappointed. Stay blessed everybody.
How's tulsa now??

Had no idea Allan Moor intended Rorschach is the villain, I seriously thought he was pushing something more complex, sure Rorschach is an insane asshole, but it really seemed like in a world as insane as he is, he would be the natural hero
Plus he had himself be killed so that he wouldn't thwart Ozymandias' plans
The one way he could be considered "The villain" depends on what you believe the effects of his journal is:
If you believe it's the wetch in Ozymandias and set the dominoes to nuclear war then, yeah, Rorschach the dumb arsehole who ruined everything and dooms the world.
@@The_PunisherAnd in the same action he kept to his morals and wasn't willing to go against truth and justice like a real hero.
I always saw it as “how bad have things gotten that THIS is the best man around?” To me it was never the point to notice how bad Rorschach was but to notice how evil the world that created him is

Listen, try learning about Communism from actual Communists.

@@LoganBryant-yl9qh I'm not confused by the Anarcho part, It's the communist part that doesn't work without governing oversight.
Clearly you have not watched the show. This is solid gold compared to she hulk.

Just goes to show how delusional Alan Moore was to believe that people would see him as a villain.

I can't believe saul goodman himself helped you narrate this video. What a great man..

I'm sure my past-due college assignments can wait. 😅
Years of fans complaining about their franchises being ruined and I always ask the same thing "Then why are you still paying attention to them?"
The usual response I get is that it's to stop others from feeding into the bad reboots, but I keep coming back to the same point.

The fact that in 2024 no one even thinks about this show anymore is pretty telling.
