My favorite punisher scene is the one at the shop where he try’s to get some gear and is about to leave then the guy tries to push CP and said “shes barely 12 guaranteed” and Frank doesn’t says anything and grabs a bat and does his work, like you see how he believes what he does is right when he has to deal with monsters like that on a daily basis.
It reminds me of that joke Matt made in the sbfp punisher playthrough about how frank has a crime aura that makes people suddenly commit crimes when he's around them Cause that shop dude had no reason to try and sell him girls at all lmao
There're was another one where Frank burned down a place and a criminal that made CP. It was a photographer with a shotgun. Frank grabbed the gun. Knocked the photographer down. And then Frank's friend suggested he burn the place down.
I remember watching the old Tom James Punisher movie with my old man Dubbed in Russian He was a bit confused at first But during that stand off bit in the bank he piped up and yelled in broken English “AH ITS A GUNSLINGER MOVIE! LIKE CLINT EASTWOOD! I understand now” He loved the movie so it will always hold a special place in my heart ❤️
Frank's a man out of time. If he had been born into say, the Old West, or any other historic era, he'd be a classic hero. He does what sometimes needs doing.
In the 2004 film, I think I'd agree. There were definite Western influences (they talk about it in the film commentary). In the comics, less so. Plenty of iterations make him look like an unhinged lunatic serial killer and I'm not really fond of that version.
Batman is Abel. The righteous man with incorruptible morals, that hones his body and mind to that same level. He is still just a man, but he is aiming to hold himself to the ideal. Frank is Samson, a man who is there to judge those who commit the most wicked of wrongs and will die enacting his justice. He is a moral actor, but he is not the ideal nor is he aiming for it. This is, of course, when both characters are written correctly.
That last part, “that is, of course, when both characters are written correctly,” should be emphasized more, because I am sick of the mischaracterization of both of these characters just because they just so happen to be looked at as just “edgy” characters that are written by people who hate and/or do not understand their characters. Batman and the Punisher are both comic book characters I like despite me not reading comics, but I truly find their characters in other media interesting.
"What is justice without vengeance. Simply a slap on the wrist and an invitation for evil to continue. Unabated." Sometimes the villains does deserve death, and Punisher is the perfect character to deliver. Merry Christmas Everybody!
It's why I consider Batman to be the biggest villain in his series. He KNOWS locking away these people almost NEVER does anything, and he KNOWS they'll always break out and continue to do the same thing, yet he continues to put them away only for them to get back out

I’m not much for his writing (his super edgy content) but I remember someone once summing him up by saying “if anything, he’s honest, if he doesn’t like something he’ll say it.”
@@DMAN99you see Ennis is actually one of the nicest dudes in the industry. He is unironically uncritically of almost every person in the industry. Like he’s critical of the industry itself in vague terms but he has beef with almost no one, and has praised everyone from fellow writers to artists to editors I think one of the reasons the Boys is so substanceless when it comes to parody is that it parodies character but it’s not making fun of any particular storyline. In fact Ennis has only critized two superhero comics ( Secret Wars II and Web of Spider-man #22. )
That's what i don't like about modern marvel. they have characters that anyone can of all ages can enjoy like Spider Man, Thor, Xmen or iron man etc. But they also have more adult characters like Daredevil, the Punisher and Wolverine (Depends how you write him. He can work as a toned down version only with the xmen, but not by himself) But they seem to just want every character to be kid friendly which i think is the wrong way to go.
Really, Frank Castle can be part of the problem. There's a lot of people in this world who go after people they deem evil and say it's because it's the right thing to do, but they really do it because they're vindictive sadists who want easy targets nobody will defend. People like MamaMax. We always have to be vigilant, and make sure we don't let people slip into that level of sadism
@KarazolaX Well, in Punisher and Daredevil dialog he basically says that when someone decides that he, the Punisher, has to be punished too (so when he commits a crime that makes him just as evil as those he punish) he hopes that they won´t miss. He knows that everyone running around and killing everyone who they consider to be bad would suck, but he knows that he himself isn´t bad and so he "is right", atleast until he either changes for worse (in which case its ok if someone else will hunt and kill him too) or normal legal ways start to actually solve the problem.
@@KarazolaX you say that but i guarantee you live in good contry with at least reasonable security now people that live in gang infested countys yearn for a punisher
Considering this video is being released right around Christmas, I propose that just like Die Hard, The Punisher is a festive series where Frank Castle spreads festive joy to all the little boys and girls
The critics were FAR too harsh on it, so were the fans. Honestly, I didn't mind Frank being a cop instead of a Marine. But I DID hate how they wasted The Russian. Sure, the fight scene's awesome, Kevin Nash took that knife like a CHAMP IRL, but that character is such a blast in the comics. They could have done more with him.
The whole "no kill rule" of superheroes doesn't work when the writers made the villains to be extremely monstrous (Case in point, Batman and Joker). Sure, Frank is not a "hero" but he is a good balance for the irredeemable villains who keep committing atrocities and should be taken down forever.
@@leviticusprime4904 To be fair, Batman has an excuse for the no kill rule. It's usually either he doesn't want to inflict the same kind of pain he felt or he is afraid of what might happen if he crosses that line. Characters like Hal Jordan however really have no excuse. The guy was a fighter pilot. There should be zero hesitation against some of his villains.
@@kostaspassias3815 To be fair with Hal, thats just a rule of the Corps and the ring, which he has to follow somewhat cause its programmed into the ring. @stefansauvageonwhat-a-twis1369 hal has killed plenty times after that rule was revoked, some aliens just gotta die. in sinestro war he was a front line fighter, so he killed plenty
This is an excellent take on the Punisher. It treats him as a complex character. And not “a ‘villain’ who’d happily gun down a black man”, or “rape women in Vietnam”. Yeah, nobody’s ever had a bad take like that, right?
Punisher has a tendency to spark partisan input because of the way the character is portrayed, and the fact that real life groups and individuals have adopted his symbols. Because of this, Punisher was always a character it was hard to get a read on because like you said, you have people that have a kneejerk reaction to demonize or idolize the character, or you have writers that flat out hate the character and only seek to portray him to his extremes, almost out of spite. This video, is the most informative and level headed approach to the character and what iterations of him work the best. I appreciate the way you handled it and don’t think anyone else could’ve done the dude justice.
You could say the same thing about Batman Since he might as well be the US equivalent of Guts just minus the no killing rule And by Georgia, What I wouldn't give to see a Batman/Punisher X Berserk Crossover comic or an Hour long crossover animated film That would literally break the internet in half

The punisher ps2 was also a psuedo sequel to the Thomas Jane movie. He did the VO, and jigsaw was based off of Howard saints son that he thought he blew up with the mine in the movie. It's truly great.
If I remember right, the 2004 film also had Jane going full force through the brick wall toward the end of the Russian fight instead of playing it safe. Absolute mad men on that one
I love that the scene in the Punisher movie where Frank Castle fights the Russian the dude playing the Punisher stabbed Kevin Nash with a real knife instead of the prop version and Nash just literally shrugged it off and kept going with the day's filming. He said later he found it funny and wasn't bothered.
45:30 the moment was actually in the courtroom when Matt says "Frank, is it okay if I call you Frank?" and Frank pauses because Daredevil asked him the exact same thing, with the same voice.
Nick Rekeita actually had a really good take on the Punisher and his appeal. He talked about how the Punisher is an avatar for our responsibility to police our neighborhoods. That when law enforcement becomes corrupt it is our duty to act.
Punisher is the kind of anti-hero that you want to "solve" that villain problem when everyone else are too scare or incompetent to act. Great video, Loli bro! ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Razor has a review where reviews the "Shadow", and points out how stupid Batmans code is. Millions are usually affected because Batman lacks the balls to pull the plug.
On the point of Punisher being "political" more or less just stems from the scope of certain concepts being politicized to the point that they want sides being taken. What with the Left going the route of being soft on crime and frothing at the mouth over gun use. Or, hell, just how often Pun-Pun goes after PDFs, but I can't imagine why they'd hate him for that... He himself isn't political, but what he does has been made political. Thus he is a target for censorship/deconstruction much like any media they don't like.
Did you take a break from Fox News to comment this? Talk to people in real life and you’ll realise not everyone is the strawman you’ve drawn them to be.
Eh. Punisher being political goes beyond whatever ineffectual liberals blabber about online. When systems fail the people, or are made to fail through corruption, people will turn to the Punisher and relate with that frustration for a better world, violent as it may be in execution. No pun intended. It's not been *made* political as much as it's incredibly hard to not interpret as so with that common lens.
I don't think that's true. It's more that the punisher proposes a idea, and while at that core that is idea of simply dilemma of humanity, the actual conversation of it is political. The punisher is about punishment, full on punishment and that's the point. He is vengeance and retribution, but also gratification and a turn away from the concept of redemption. And the left isn't really soft on crime. They're notoriously over vindictive on certain crimes, especially social and political crimes such as misgendering someone which is more of a side effect of radical attempts to gain political social control than true political conceptualization or loyalty, it's one of the reason they can be so break neck switch about that stuff. You see the same thing in the growing trad right groups who feel they are materializing as the personification as the collective right wing reaction to that stuff. Many of the other heroes skirt the law but live by a strong sense of ethics. Punisher dosen't really have much ethics outside of justifying who he is allowed to target and so there are a lot of things to call him out for. Politics follow the man because he is a man vs society and society attempts to implement justice. If someone says "This thing is flawed. Look at this cool guy who goes against it in the most brutal way possible as a free agent" that statement and depiction is always going to be sort of anti-establishment in some form because frank by default is a ideal power fantasy for people who feel that way about the establishment and its attempts and rules of justice. It wouldn't matter what side was in power. It's just that as that core idea gets batted back and forth, he eventually picks up political baggage. The punisher is obviously not pro-cop, but somehow he gained that status for a while because he became associated with being tougher on crime. But it wouldn't be hard to just as much argue that such a man COULD include social issues into his targeting, especially when those social issues may allow crimes legally via social allowance. You saw a lot of this psuedo-punisher stuff in the tropes of the "racist getting punished" that was common for a while, sure it wasn't directly the punisher but it's the same thing. Strangely, this trope evaporated when blacks became more vocally and collective racist towards Asians and whites.
I think Punisher would have a problem with cops worshiping him...the problem is the scenes were he confronts them are always so corney and out of character lol Frank wouldn't give a very practiced and preachy lecture to them, he would just stare them down and keep tabs on them just in case
You put it into words better than I could have. However there are a couple scences I would recommend. First, punisher 2099 is a cop but also deals with a corrupt police force Also punisher nightmare
The Punisher is one of those characters you have a hard time disagreeing with. I mean with how often villains in Marvel escape and cause more trouble and show no regret for it, it's hard not to agree with his no nonsense method.
Your typical superhero believes in redemption and rehabilitation, Frank has seen the worst of the worst humanity has to offer, those that laugh in the face of those noble ideals, and while many heroes would reject his methods there is that little tickle in the back of their head that has gratitude for a man like Frank for removing the trash from society.
Yea its hard to pull off in a universe like the marvel universe, I like the mix of reality and fantasy and all but the reader has to do some of their own detachment for the world to work a lot of the time
In an interview with John Bernthal between Daredevil and Punisher season 1, Bernthal was asked by a fan "what kind of pizza does the Punisher like?" Bernthal said "The Punisher doesnt eat pizza". When I saw Frank getting excited about pizza in season 2, I knew the show was garbage.
@@stevendiaz9034 he embodied the character, he was hired based on his ability to interpret the character. Meaning the OG Punisher Bernthal portrayed in Daredevil and season 1 isnt the same in punisher season 2. the writers changed and him eating pizza is an example of how they dont understand the character.
@@pepperpeterpiperpickled9805 Like I said bro, it's not that deep, it's a slice of pizza, sometimes in life you eat stuff you dont want, it does not matter, the writer still nail the military aspect and flesh out his character as a human alot but hey let just bitching about whenever Punisher eating pizza is in character or not
Ironically, the Punisher could save the marvel (and Disney) franchise. It's masculinity is something the REAL "modern audience" digs. NO superpowers, rather "normal" background, real victim of crime, dedicated to success and having "bad" sides is what runs deep with the audience
The "oorah" shit is real, because frank is a marine and not a soldier. Marines actually talk like that . I actually think the writing staff did a great job with the military stuff even making frank and his squad wear ocps because frank was in a socom unit while being a marsoc LT
You made a really interesting point talking about Punisher Max and the Thomas Jane film, they’re dark, somber and a little depressing because Frank isn’t a pleasant person. He’s lost everything and instead of trying to move on he just let the pain sink in and simmer until it turned into something awful. A punisher movie wouldn’t be like other superhero movies at all if you do it right.
The Punisher is an amazing character. My first ever real introduction was the 2004 movie with Thomas Jane. Then it would be better known with the Daredevil show and his own with Jon Bernthal for me. Both really enjoyable.
I dont care what people say, Punisher War Zone is underrated as fuck! I know people love the Thomas Jane version, and i dont hate it, but War Zone hits that spot for me
Couldn’t agree more. War Zone is brutal and entertaining. I liked Thomas Jane, but wasn’t a fan of that movie. It was slow, boring and had a terrible, generic villain. Travolta was awful. War Zone embraced the inherent insanity and brutality of Punisher(particularly MAX). It seemed like all involved really cared about the source material.
I think you'd really enjoy the 'how did this get made?' podcast episode on the Punisher Warzone, the director has some wild BTS stories from that movie.
I LOVED Punisher in Daredevil. I loved how what's his name Shane from walking dead played him... but man... the actual Punisher show we got was underwhelming. They nailed it in Daredevil and then kind of neutered it for the actual show. The writers of Daredevil really understood what's appealing about Punisher.
I miss daredevil show so much, that was really the best of mcu, writers really understood the characters, I don't think they even show the religious part of Matt's character in Born Again let alone give us a really good punisher without watering his character down or make him political, Even in his own R rated show in Netflix they couldn't have gone all the way
@@spider-mah3973 I mean, one persons "not watered down" is another persons "too political" and so on, its hard to not have repercussions on politics when discussing ideology and philosophy which comics do a bunch

@@jackdaone6469 the castlevania series was awesome! (We dont talk about nocturne, that was a mess, gay vampires, dei, and slavery is bad, it was a clusterfuck)
The "almost" relationships they keep doing with Frank is important to the narrative. By making it clear that - if only he would consider an alternative path - Frank can have a normal (or at least happy) life, it reinforces the tragedy of his choice to keep being the punisher. The punisher is ultimately a noir figure, who is doomed by his own obsession with vengeance and inability to move on.
My favorite Castle story has always been the 2014 run. In that run, he's practically embodying the "veteran philosophical gunslinger" old west archetype. A lot of things could have been handled better, sure, but I do believe that's the best way to go forward with such an "out of place" character like him.
ngl i love The Punisher because of his level of sheer brutality. Maybe im getting old but im less interested in cosmic stories and more interested in brutal street crime and mystery. Batman, Punisher and Daredevil are all sick. Whether it's the MAX comics, the movies, the show or playing him in Marvel Rivals, I love the fact that he's just a pissed off dude.
Same, honestly. I just find gangsters, corrupt politicians, serial killers, and any number of other more grounded criminal types to make for significantly more interesting bad guys than aliens or demons, and Punisher at its best scratches that itch beautifully.
Dude, I'm in the middle of re-watching The Expanse right now, and I just now realized that Thomas Jane (Miller) played the Punisher. How did I never realize this?
Speaking of Carlin What I wouldn't give to have Almighty loli do a video where he talks about Carlin and his Stand Up Material for 7 and a half hour video material
Here in Nigeria, the Punisher skull symbol is quite popular among a lot of guys in our armed forces😂 So when i hear some westerners call it a hate symbol, i know they are lying. Also, my first introduction to the character was when i randomly read the issue, owned by my older cousin, when he got plastic surgery to become a black man😂 It was so weird but i enjoyed the violence and action, and i still enjoy the character. One of ny favorite moments of him is when during Hickman's Secret Wars, all the villains gathered in a bar to watch the earth be destroyed and Frank showed up with a smile on his face and a fully loaded assault rifle🤣🤣👍

You Barely made it before Christmas and glad you did, I've never really cared for the punisher but you've changed my mind about it and now I feel like at the very least watching the movies and shows.
Ennis's work has a very distinct British/Irish charm to them that has always drawn me to his works (especially the boys comics which I absolutely adore and hate what Amazon did with the adaptation) as an English-man and in the least preachy way possible, it's so nice to finally hear someone else who appreciates his works on the internet and understands why he writes the way he does without just pointing the finger and repeating the same old "hE HaTEs SuPErhEroEs" over and over again.
I appreciated Ennis’ work with Preacher. People take it as a condemnation of religion in general, but there’s more to it than that. It criticizes dogmatic perspectives and organized religion (i.e. Catholic Church), yes. But it also shows the other side of that coin: the godless behavior our fellow man is capable of when turned away from faith. The comic even poses it’s god as a megalomaniac narcissist seeking our validation, as opposed to being a righteous deity. The series even ends on a rather dark note when the Saint of Killers assassinates god and takes over his mantle, implying the world is about to stumble into even further chaos on an incredible scale.
@@brainiac.computerI mean, Garth Ennis is from northern ireland, so no wonder his head would be filled with anti-catholic propaganda, especially during "the troubles", how is a "religious war" less justifiable than any other war? Also what is a "non-oraganized religion?" Some new age BS? Or just being "spiritual"? Also he just repeats a common trope of "God is kind of a jerk or in the gray zone" that a lot of more edgy writers use, thinking its the most "innovative" thing ever.
@HortonSalm It's more of a feeling I get from the way he writes most of his characters, especially in something like The Boys where you really feel that all to familiar cynical, sarcasm along with the overt bluntness in the team but Butcher especially. Butcher is like the embodiment of the 'hard man' stereotype from a lot of British films from the 80s - 2000s. Like he looks straight out of something like Snatch (2000) or Lock, stock and Two Smoking Barells (1996) and embodies all of the cynicism and sarcassm a true Cockney boy like himself can bring to the states. Hughie emanate's that small amount of hope and optimism left within the British people that's been crushed and weighed down due to our history and the way our class system works which discourages working class people from ever pushing themselves to do something more with their lives. Even the non British characters embody a distinctive British essence that I can't describe.
I feel like Garth ennis is probably more cynical towards superheroes but still loves the super hero genre, I can’t really say I fully love Garth Ennis’s work but I just feel like Garth ennis work probably can just never really work as an adaptation because really your not seeing Garth ennis your just seeing someone trying to emulate Garth ennis, I won’t say some changes in the boys Amazon series I think does stuff better then the comics but it is also vice versa
The only part of season 2 I really like was when the girl had to shoot a dude and she's freaking out about killing him, and Frank tries to comfort her by saying "You didn't kill him, you just shot him." BANG "I killed him."
i think his appearance in daredevil season 2 was flawless. it felt like garth ennis's punisher from the max comics come to life. by the time he got his solo series, it just felt like the writers wanted to make a wolverine story and slapped the punisher in it. or maybe im just so used to ennis's punisher who is so ingrained in his violent nature that hes constantly looking for criminals to satiate his rage. punisher born was an incredible story btw.
Fun fact is originally James Cameron wanted to adapt Spider-Man and he had an R-rated film in mind with a graphic sex scene between MJ and Peter and plenty of profanity and blood. He originally had Leonardo DiCaprio in mind as Peter, Nikki Cox as MJ, Kevin Spacey as Green Goblin, Bill Paxton as the guy that kills Uncle Ben, Michael Douglas as J. Jonah Jamison, Michael Biehn as Sandman, Katherine Hepburn as Aunt May, Lance Henricksen as Electro, and Arnold Schwarzenegger as Doc-Ock.
glad you mentioned the whole ennis hates super heroes myth, it always bothered me that this is usually the most common argument to disregard the boys comics as a whole. it sure isn't perfect but repeating something you saw on some comment section once to defend some *mediocre at its best* tv show by putting the source material down is silly billy behavior.
@augustusfren133 bro the boys fanboys have the most aggravating fanbase I have ever seen on the Internet. Theyre just so pretentious and cringe in every level
I still remember the adrenaline coursing as every episode passed. The first season ending with such a good climax, only to be elevated higher in the second season. He's unapologetically walking a road of his own ruin while trying to pave the path for others even if he doesn't often succeed. In the most respectful way, quoting Deadpool, "fucks hard". Here is my alternate universe arc: We keep season 1. Season two we have him travel to overseas like in a jungle where he is taking down local trash there following a lead. Basically a lot of jungle warfare. At first there are some things getting the better of him 3-4 of the final episodes frank is working these traps and his environment so well it’s giving the local groups a hard time. End with getting a lead about super terrorists being planed. Season 3 as Frank investigates more about these super terrorists, have him team up loosely with something like shield, have him bankrolled and travel to these different countries around the world finding clues about this super program to put a stop to it. End the season with shield and Frank parting ways because their head division something got fired or they were order to focus on another issue or word got out they are working with The Punisher and so they have to distance themselves to an even greater extent and deny their relationship or something. Meaning season 4 frank has to fight in the middle east a group of terrorists as he hones in on some super villains, but low enough level (the Rino, jubilee, real low level but a different challenge of criminal to fight) not to throw power scaling out the window, this is to focus him back up on lower stakes story wise. We just had the over seas building to the punisher gets a huge budget and neat gadgets part, now we need him to use up his toys and perks mostly before heading back to the US. Once the super terrorists get cleaned up, we get a lead that brings Frank back to the US where a company seemed to be funding the work was also preforming other sinful activities. So frank suspects them of being tied to the situation. This one would only really have one main villian/obstical for frank compared to the several last season and refocuses more on Frank’s investigative and planning operations. We could if we need to have, this be a wrap up season for Frank where maybe he has to face his own punisher, while he’s been away. Except this guy’s code is a lot looser than franks. It ends with frank trying to think about retiring or not but we keep it open ended. If we need him in a future movie or team up it’s there but that would probably be the end for his run in my arch. Intro, the super arch, then closing arch. 5 seasons, end it there. But this is just a larger overview.
Well, considering Frank’s popularity during the 80s to the point that DC tried to have their own version of the punisher, even bringing back vigilante until the success of watchmen and the dark Knight returns.
I was born in 05 and this was one of the first "superhero" movies I ever seen. I was maybe six and unsupervised, sneaked in my dad's room and snagged some cool looking movies (also watchmen what a double feature) and I was blown away by how sad and just evil the world(s) can be. Just an amazing movie
This videos helped me to realize that I don’t dislike the character the punisher, I’m now realizing that it’s probably very good at marvel has a character like him. I just don’t like some of the people who idolize the punisher.
Im a lifelong NYC resident..& i love the fact that Punisher is based on the old school... much more crime ridden NYC..& the Netflix series was actually filmed at Greenpoint Studiosb here in my neighborhood...& scenes have been filmed on my block..& all those warehouse scenes were fillmed here on West St on the East River waterfront..
Was such a shame we never got a The Darkness 3. While it did veir off from the comics, the first game's atmosphere and the second's being the monster that hunts the bad guys, such a damn shame. But onto The Punisher, thanks for covering it and giving some recommendations. Fingers crossed Marvel doesn't mess things up as you don't have to have a single focused audience. Hell, a large amount of the audience are mature adults, maybe not mentally, but there is definitely that audience that loves Deadpool, Logan, etc. But, it won't be a surprise if Marvel or Disney waste an opportunity they have (if they didn't burn it to the ground already)
BTW I met Ennis at a comic book store in Ireland. I have a signed Punisher Marvel Knights comic. He's a lovely human being who took time to talk to everyone at the store. Also amazing video dude. Keep it going you've become one of my favourite RUclipsrs this year.
Definitely don't understand how people can say the punisher should be retired cause he's "insensitive" while shows like invincible and especially the boys are still popular.
Eh I wouldn’t cancel the punisher cause he’s insensitive. I would cancel the punisher because he’s overdone. The apolitical Vigilante who suffered by the hands of a corrupt system is a constant crutch that people do if they want an anti-hero. “He lost his family cause the system he trusts failed him” that practically screams about a lot of Americans who feel scarred.
@wjbushjr So does that mean we should just cancel every other anti hero/underdog out there in all forms of media? If you ask me, future stories should definitely try a little something different from the punisher, but never canceled for good or you'll just be taking away future writer's potential. Just look at some anti heroes from manga like Guts who (long story sort) starts off wanting revenge, but later on, learns to let go of some of that hatred to focus on redemption for himself and his few comrades. No matter how cruel their world is. But as for punisher, it should already be 5 years since we last saw him, at least in live action since session 2 of his show came out in 2019. So if we can see him again in Born Again, but done right, I don't think that would hurt anybody.
That himt about the Punisher knowing who Dare Devil is, I think you missed a scene in the courtroom when Frank was acting like weird, looking around like he recognizes that voice from some where.

He understood the assignment
That scene was so satisfying lol
It reminds me of that joke Matt made in the sbfp punisher playthrough about how frank has a crime aura that makes people suddenly commit crimes when he's around them
Cause that shop dude had no reason to try and sell him girls at all lmao
There're was another one where Frank burned down a place and a criminal that made CP. It was a photographer with a shotgun.
Frank grabbed the gun. Knocked the photographer down. And then Frank's friend suggested he burn the place down.
And that scene isn’t even from his own show lol
I remember watching the old Tom James Punisher movie with my old man Dubbed in Russian
He was a bit confused at first
But during that stand off bit in the bank he piped up and yelled in broken English

Heroes of Old were mostly conquerors, often times ruthless and brutal. Frank, imo, would've been a paragon in most periods pre-Christian morality.
@@rramdohr7548 that’s because a lot of marvels “””talent””” can’t handle frank castle properly, they make Matt Ward of 40k look talented.
yes. but he was born now. so hes no hero, hes a murderer with a conscience.
Did you just straight up stole a quote from Sin City?😅
Batman is Abel. The righteous man with incorruptible morals, that hones his body and mind to that same level. He is still just a man, but he is aiming to hold himself to the ideal.
Frank is Samson, a man who is there to judge those who commit the most wicked of wrongs and will die enacting his justice. He is a moral actor, but he is not the ideal nor is he aiming for it.
This is, of course, when both characters are written correctly.
Good comparison
I'd buy that for a dollar.
It's why I consider Batman to be the biggest villain in his series. He KNOWS locking away these people almost NEVER does anything, and he KNOWS they'll always break out and continue to do the same thing, yet he continues to put them away only for them to get back out

An edgelord with a heart of gold.
The world needs Spider-Man, Thor and Cap.
But my God does it DESERVE Frank Castle.
Yes it does
That's what i don't like about modern marvel. they have characters that anyone can of all ages can enjoy like Spider Man, Thor, Xmen or iron man etc.

Writers really need to stop making joker so over the top in terms of his evil.
@@leviticusprime4904 To be fair, Batman has an excuse for the no kill rule. On the point of Punisher being "political" more or less just stems from the scope of certain concepts being politicized to the point that they want sides being taken. Leftist can't go 1 minute without ruining something for political gain. 😂😂😂
@@weezersthebluealbum9479 what part of the comment triggered you? Was it the pdf hate?
I think Punisher would have a problem with cops worshiping him...the problem is the scenes were he confronts them are always so corney and out of character lol
Frank wouldn't give a very practiced and preachy lecture to them, he would just stare them down and keep tabs on them just in case
You put it into words better than I could have. However there are a couple scences I would recommend. First, punisher 2099 is a cop but also deals with a corrupt police force
Also punisher nightmare
Honestly him telling cops to look up to Captain America as an idol is definitely something he would do tho.

The "almost" relationships they keep doing with Frank is important to the narrative. The punisher is ultimately a noir figure, who is doomed by his own obsession with vengeance and inability to move on.

I laughed so much at that scene 😂😂😂
i think his appearance in daredevil season 2 was flawless. it felt like garth ennis's punisher from the max comics come to life. by the time he got his solo series, it just felt like the writers wanted to make a wolverine story and slapped the punisher in it. or maybe im just so used to ennis's punisher who is so ingrained in his violent nature that hes constantly looking for criminals to satiate his rage. punisher born was an incredible story btw.
Punisher always will be my favorite Marvel and Comic book character.
Well this is a nice early Christmas gift. Thanks Loli and Merry Christmas!
Ar old Schwarzenegger as the buff scientist super-villain? Sounds like something out of Always Sunny in Philadelphia. 😂
The Thomas Jane movie is my favorite. It feels so authentic and dedicated to its story. Almost like an indie passion project.
glad you mentioned the whole ennis hates super heroes myth, it always bothered me that this is usually the most common argument to disregard the boys comics as a whole. it sure isn't perfect but repeating something you saw on some comment section once to defend some *mediocre at its best* tv show by putting the source material down is silly billy behavior.
The Punisher is what Batman could be, if he was without his code for different reasons.
The long awaited video.... The lore behind "That guy in the Punisher shirt.'
Oh my god, I have ALWAYS thought that the song “The man comes around” is a perfect fit for the Punisher
The most political thing Frank does is not pay taxes
Nor listen to gun laws… both are incredibly based
Dude, warm hugs. Finally, someone beside me understands this character. Links clicked, like placed, subscription commended.
7:12 When the political series is political about republicans instead of gay people
I love how you go from dead man's party to 89 batman soundtrack.
More of a War Zone fan than a 2004 one, but Punisher is definitive top tier character regardless.
Its been awhile since I've visited your channel. Glad nothing has changed for the worse in fact you've improved in every way. Editing. How you get your thoughts and ideas around. Also the Johnny cash reference as the title just works fucking perfectly as tell me any clip from the 2004 movie wouldnt be BAD ASS with a Johnny cash song playing.
I remember getting barracuda as a kid my dad didn't proof read it when I picked it off the shelf.
Same with the PS2 punisher game
*_It's videos like this one that made me a fan of your channel back way back when you were chewing out Druckman and his failure of a sequel. Exhaustive dedication to establishing context that, despite me already being pretty familiar with the subject material, has me revisiting it with new interest._*
*_Because of you, Loli, I will never not be floored by the Russian Fight scene. Thank you._*
*_Merry Christmas in advance, and a Happy New Year._*
Here is my alternate universe arc:
We keep season 1.
Man , I would love to get an actual adaptation of Garth Ennis' The Punisher Max but sadly , we will never get something as good as that
Red dead redemption one soundtrack option was *chefs kiss*
Well, considering Frank’s popularity during the 80s to the point that DC tried to have their own version of the punisher, even bringing back vigilante until the success of watchmen and the dark Knight returns.
What comes around, goes around. You can't run from yourself forever.
I'm pretty sure the punisher, moonknight, and Deadpool would "get along" just fine with each other
Yaaay! Something to listen to while I work! Thanks, Loli, love ya!
This videos helped me to realize that I don’t dislike the character the punisher, I’m now realizing that it’s probably very good at marvel has a character like him. I just don’t like some of the people who idolize the punisher.
I wonder if this video will boost the amount of Punisher mains in Marvel Rivals
Punisher MAX is fantastic! Was especially fond of Valley Forge, Valley Forge and Widowmaker.
Finally a video about the Punisher that gets the character
Damn. Out here hitting us with the Peter Wolf Crier in the intro.
This gon’ be a good one.
The real reaosn for the Punisher logo being changed is because Disney cant get royalties for it. Thats the only real reason.
7:26 Same here, man. Jackie screaming at the Angelus-possessed Jenny in Hell is still a sight that haunts my very nightmares ever since I was a kid.
BTW I met Ennis at a comic book store in Ireland. I have a signed Punisher Marvel Knights comic. He's a lovely human being who took time to talk to everyone at the store.
Also amazing video dude. Keep it going you've become one of my favourite RUclipsrs this year.
Aw hell yes, this is gonna be awesome.
You should consider covering Berserk next.
Berserk? Never heard of it. What's about?
@SIGNOR-G some guy who's pissed off about his gf leaving him for the drama club leader or something gay like that
Definitely don't understand how people can say the punisher should be retired cause he's "insensitive" while shows like invincible and especially the boys are still popular.
@wjbushjr
So does that mean we should just cancel every other anti hero/underdog out there in all forms of media?
If you ask me, future stories should definitely try a little something different from the punisher, but never canceled for good or you'll just be taking away future writer's potential.
Just look at some anti heroes from manga like Guts who (long story sort) starts off wanting revenge, but later on, learns to let go of some of that hatred to focus on redemption for himself and his few comrades. No matter how cruel their world is.
But as for punisher, it should already be 5 years since we last saw him, at least in live action since session 2 of his show came out in 2019. So if we can see him again in Born Again, but done right, I don't think that would hurt anybody.
@@ktsalinas5444 yes we should totally get rid of the genre entirely. Just get rid of it. All of it, that’s clearly what I meant.
@wjbushjr
Well good luck canceling the punisher yourself as we wait to see if they do him and Born Again as a whole right.
@ I am severely being sarcastic.
That himt about the Punisher knowing who Dare Devil is, I think you missed a scene in the courtroom when Frank was acting like weird, looking around like he recognizes that voice from some where.
24:00 - my man... Main theme of Jane's Punisher still, after all those year's and inner changes gives me shivers. Like a first time.
Such simplicity in execution contains so much pain, emptiness, rage and vengeance. And brass, full of determination... Uh! My god...
