Dude don’t be stupid. This scene just show you that it was Loki pretended to be Odin the whole time. So that’s mean this scene was played by Tom Hiddleston, not Anthony Hopkins.
TBF they are stronger than most “human” creatures in the realms. And going by the films Asgardian protocol seems to be “Treat powerful asgardians like you do normal ones.” When Loki turned traitor in the 1st movie Heimdall straight up attacked him. Later in the move all the soldiers just squared up with hella even tho she just came from a portal that Loki and Thor entered….without Loki or Thor.
It's not cool that these hack fraud so-called filmmakers dismiss an important plot point from a previous movie in such a surface-level, throwaway scene.
Especially after he turned into a snake, tricked him and stabbed him in the stomach. I can never get enough of that story. Such a simple yet amusing story made so much more funnier by Chris's delivery and the other's reactions
You can tell Hopkins had a lot of fun being Loki here. He was really in his element with the character. I am just sad it was only about 90 seconds of him being Loki. But as they say in Hollywood no such thing as small parts just small actors. And Anthony Hopkins is certainly not a small actor. The guy is a beast at whatever character he plays.
yea Hopkins scenes were phenomenal. For such a low screen time his character served more memorable than leads you see for 2/3 the time of other movies. Ragnarok is just one of the best directed and produced action superhero movies out there.
I love how the whole time everybody feared Loki becoming the ruler of Asgard but in this scene, he was just chilling, eating grapes, and doing plays which kind of shows what would he do if he were king 😭 Yeah sure, he wasn't doing his part and keeping the peace between the nine realms… but I'm sure he didn't do it on purpose and he thought it would be fine without him for a bit ( and he didn't know how too)….
But that is exactly why he shouldn't have been on the throne, he was so self centered that like Thor says "all the nine realms falling into chaos and you Odin all father are sitting around in your bathrobe eating grapes"
A weak ruler is a bad and dangerous one, just like an oppressive ruler is also bad and dangerous. A good ruler can tow the line between anarchy and oppression and find the sweet spot in the middle with just the right balance of freedom and authoritarianism.
Odin. COnquer and Oppress the other realms. Loki, pretending to be Odin. Peaceful and respecting their neighbor. in the end, Loki was better. Odin's daughter, who helped Odin conquer, came back to destroy Asgard. and te enemy Loki allow to get stronger , saves what's left of Asgard by destroying it.
I have always said that this is one of the most impressive acting feats to me. Acting like somebody else is pretending to be you. You have to act completely different than you normally would.
It's always really interesting when you see that. Like in Deathly Hallows, Helena Bonham-Carter watched Emma Watson act out her part to get a feel for her mannerisms before acting it out in her own right, so we got Helena Bonham-Carter pretending to be Emma Watson pretending to be Hermione Granger pretending to be Bellatrix Lestrange.
0:24 is brief, but it is my favorite Anthony Hopkins moment in the MCU. He is trying to not react (as Odin) but letting the insult sink in so he starts to look offended (as Loki) then trying to keep his cool again.
you have to understand how amazing of an actor you must be when you are able to pull of a performance of a different character (one you never acted as before) posing as your character this flawlessly. anthony hopkins never dissapoints!
I was about to correct you like "why wouldn't he be??" and then I remembered that show Loki was plucked from his The Avengers era and I felt the exact same disappointment all over again
I do like how this scene while comical, also depicts how once he no longer has any remaining trick up his sleeve or able to rely on his illusionary magic (having now been explsoed in public), Loki knows damn well he has no chance against Thor in straight up fight. Hence why he immediately told him where Odin was
Especially with how unprepared he was. No Asgardian armor, no Gungnir (Odin's spear), no Scepter or Tesseract to help him fight Thor like he used to. I also think that at this point Loki doesn't want to fight his family unless really unnecessary. His grudge towards them slowly faded away over the years.
@@Altherot agreed there. I mean, his actions by the end of Thor Ragnarok show he’s not really interested in power, ie control/ruling, anymore (certainly not in terms of the dealing with the responsibilities that come with it as we saw), but rather just enjoying the perks of it (eg merely basking in the “royal life” watching plays, and not carrying out any duties to maintain said power & order). And also of course, again, he knows that once he’s got no tricks or resources to fall back on, he cant match Thor in straight-up combat

I thought it was Loki being Odin until 4:00 through the hammer and then he became Loki again
If it was Odin, he would have just reached out his hand and grabbed Mjolnir.
Correct.
Mjolnir is actually Odin's weapon and then he passed it down to Hela, when she was imprisoned it was given to Thor.
That’s why Thor saying “not even your face will stop Mjolnir” is funny because the real Odin’s face can actually stop mjolnir
My first thought too, I'm pretty sure Odin is the only one it prioritizes more than Thor.
