Odin: Peace
@@njay4399 loki: peace was never an option *turns into a goose with a knife*
@@chanika7051 😂
In the beginning this is how he thought of it. Use the child to gain power and peace. Gradually, he began to treat both of them equally and treat loki like an actual son. It isnt like he never punished thor he did. He saw thor become egotistic and selfish so he sent him to Earth. Thanos, he was much worse. He adopted multiple children just to use them to get the stones and complete his mission. He didn't really care when they died and he nevr got emotional. Even as time passed by he just treated them like soldiers and slaves and never looked at them as children. While Odin, although it was clear he loved thor more, he clearly looked at loki as a son and soon the idea of using him as a way to reach peace faded away. @@darknessedgelord7998 Still funny.
Tom Hiddleston's acting is superb. Although I'm enjoying the new Loki show, deep down I really miss our original Loki. What a great character and arc. It was glorious to watch.
I mean, technically the Loki in the show is the same one from this scene. He's just different from the one we saw from The Dark World on. It's kind of like playing an RPG game where you have multiple save files, and your later save files get deleted, and you have to go back to an old one. That's still your character - just a previous version of what you've been playing through. Now, when you play through again, things will play out differently to some extent.
Well he eventually watches the future ahead of him, so technically he's still the original Loki
I hope he wins at the end of it all. Our Loki, Tom loki not the woman.
@@sandravermeulen9729 Is it too much to ask for both?
This
It's so weird seeing Loki act like this compared to the calm, calculated, trollish behavior he portrays in the later films. It's true that a lot of that is probably an act by Loki himself, but damn Hiddleston has such a great range to essentially have two different personalities for the same character.
Loki was serious and vulnerable in that moment.
Its also apparent that after thanos found him he got tortured into being considerably more malevolent.
I wouldn't say that the character Loki had multiple personalities. It was more like his personality was so extremely multifaceted and complex that even he didn't understand it fully. A good example of this is the very last conversation he had with his mother, Frigga, before she was killed in Thor: the Dark World.
Frigga refers to Odin as Loki's father, to which he immediately interrupts saying, "HE'S NOT MY FATHER!" Because the way Loki perceived it, Odin never truly loved him and was always too busy being the king and never an actual father(and also being incredibly hypocritical and racist), so he did not deserve the title. And to make matters worse, Odin literally disowned him before throwing him in prison.
Frigga's response is, ". . . Then am I not your mother?"
"No, you're not." Loki says, even though it clearly pains him to say it. Because Frigga was always so kind and loving and jumped at the chance to spoil him to Hel and back. Because Frigga had always favored him over Thor, the actual child of her womb, and was really the only person to ever do so. But logically, if he was going to insist that he was not related to either Thor or Odin in any way, he had to reject Frigga as well.
And Frigga sees this and smiles and tells him, "Always so perceptive, about everyone but yourself." Because deep down he still cares. He still wants to think of her as his mother, because that is all she has ever been to him. And he still doesn't seem to realize that the two concepts can coexist; that Frigga can be his mother, and Odin not be his father. He doesn't realize this and it must confuse him so much to have what he perceives are conflicting desires to the point that he can't even tell what is truth and what is lie anymore. And this only further cements his reputation as an untrustworthy liar(despite how often he actually tries to tell the truth), because he says and does such contradicting things but none of it is technically untrue.
So the character Loki is very complicated and unpredictable, I will not argue that. But I personally don't believe he has multiple personalities.
Loki was at his peak in Thor 1. Avengers 1 turned him into a buffoon. Thor 2 and his own show at least made him interesting again
Its not weird...its called character arc. This scene sets the base for why he acts the way he acts.
“They told you, you adopted”
“Yeah did they not tell you”

I love how Loki's hand takes Odin's in his. It hovers before making contact and is cautious, almost gentle when it clasps his father's hand. Loki would never want to cause Odin harm. Loki somehow suspends the emotional breakdown in his head and terror, the concern of a son, takes its place for a short while. Loki has always wanted to be seen, accepted, and recognized by Odin. Odin kept Loki from the truth, but in the end, it was what fit into the broken, missing pieces of his heart, crushing what remained. I feel so deeply for him.

The line at 2:22 always breaks my heart. The acting dilevered by Tom Hiddleston at that moment is absolutely amazing. Like u can feel the emotions so well behind his voice
I feel like the producers couldn’t find a way to settle the argument other than letting Odin go nap nap🤦♂️
I think it's important that Loki is left with so little resolution and clarity.
Loki's take from this conversation is that he was taken as a political pawn to eventually bring about a permanent peace between Asgard and Jotunheim, but that "those plans no longer matter", and Loki is left feeling like "another stolen relic" - purposeless, with no worth, and like he doesn't truly belong with his family as a loved son.
This is what drives Loki's actions going forward. He seeks to prove himself a worthy son to Odin, and that he truly is of Asgard. So he decides on another "permanent peace", one in which they will be rid of "that race of monsters" for good, with no loss of innocent, worthy Asgardian lives. He kills his birth-father in front of Odin in a staged display of undeniable loyalty.
"I could have done it father, for you, for all of us".
Loki acts in accordance with what he thinks Odin wants, what he thinks will make Odin consider him not just his son, but a worthy son. But he has misunderstood what Odin wants, so Odin tells him "No, Loki". But Loki likely hears only a rejection of himself despite trying everything to belong and be worthy, so he lets go.
This tragedy only exists because of the lack of resolution in this scene. If Odin had the time to say "I changed my plan because we grew to truly care for you as a son", or "I saw greater use for you here, at Thor's side as his advisor", or anything else, Loki would probably not have done everything he ended up doing. And we wouldn't have a villain for The Avengers.
I would have preferred thor movies kept this tone and seriousness. The comedy angle is meh. The mcu has enough attempts at comedy
I'm glad they casted Tom as Loki because he did the best no one could ever. The hurt, the confusion, the anger....he portrayed it the best way and that's how I loved Loki from the beginning...he is my only favorite anti-hero in the MCU 🤩💚

Saw a tumblr post where someone did the math and, in human years, MCU Loki apparently would've been around 16....😦
I only bring this up cuz HE JUST LOOKS SO YOUNG IN THIS SCENE 😭
Is it bad that I find this huge part of Loki's life massively forgettable.
They never brought it up again so…
Hopefully they will in the series.
yes it is
@@ZyliceLiddell no we wont forget # loki deserved better
I legit watched Thor so long ago I forgot XD
Yeah it is it seems you only care about Loki when he's making jokes but there's a serious part of his life that's depressing af 😂
“Loki is beyond reason but he’s of Asgard and he’s my brother.”
“He killed 80 people in two days”
“He’s adopted.”
Thor has likely killed 80 Frost Giants with a single swoop of his hammer on Jotunheim, so 80 people in two days means Loki is severely underperforming in comparison... 😁
0:25 that “no” from Odin made me laugh idk why😂
When people say Marvel movies are just no acting and just smashing things, I present them this!! Exhibit A!
And i present Exhibit B every scene with Star Lord
This scene has Anthony Hopkins and Tom Hiddleston in it. They're two of the exceptions. Not all Marvel stars are good actors.
(cough) Chris (cough) Hemsw(cough)orth (cough cough)
@@indigoward4396 Chris hemsworth is a great actor the fuck are you on lol
@@indigoward4396 thor ragnarok
I already was crying an ocean during this scene, but when you watch the LOKI Series and realize that Sylvie KNEW from the start that she was adopted while Loki got to know when he was an adult made this scene even more emotional.
I completely agree! That's why I came here to rewatch it after seeing both seasons of the show....
Waiting for loki becoming Worthy and says " brother, i am your equal "
How can he do that when he's dead?
@@Wolf-bb1ex won't be for long tbh.

"So I am no more than another stolen relic, locked up here until you might have use of me? You could have told me what I was from the beginning; why didn't you?!"
I don't know what it is about that line that gets me every time, but it does. Tom Hiddleston is such a pro.
Don't get me wrong - I LOVE Ragnarok. But this is pure comic Shakespeare and it works perfectly. Its a believable and relatable family struggle dynamic.
2:41 you can see that he's still care about his father
Compare this masterpiece with Ragnarok and Love and Thunder .... story vs all joke comedy .....
Also, Tom Hiddleston play Loki so well the emotions here his voice he projected the hurt so well it still gives me chills
Loki: TELL ME!!!
Odin: ...........so anyway I started napping.
LMFAO
Underrated
This guy evolved to literally holding the multiverse together
Great acting by Hiddleston here, really felt the passion and anger in his voice in this scene.
It took some time but he finally found his glorious purpose
Literally
Who would have thought?
2:21 That line just makes me want to jump through the screen and give Loki a hug. I hate to see him like this
He’s anything but a monster. He just needs some love
He’s like Sauron but more broken inside
@@Jedi-Of-The-Republic how
@@IzzyIncontrera because Sauron has a dark past that led him into evil and hate and became evil and never became good again but Loki turned good in many occasions
This scene of Toms acting is better than any other in the MCU in terms of talent
True
He’s a Shakespearean actor
