Great video. One minor correction though. G.I. Joe was actually a weekday cartoon and not just a Saturday morning one. And it’s about time somebody said that about Duke! I always felt he had a Steve Rogers a.k.a. captain America vibe!
I’m guessing this guy isn’t actually a G.I. Joe fan. He mispronounce “Spentor” throughout the whole video making it hard to watch. He also left out Scarlett who is without a doubt more of a main character than Beachhead or Sgt. Slaughter. Scarlett is shown as taking on leadership in Revenge of Cobra after it appears Flint was lost in battle.
Actually, Actually it was a weekdays syndicated tv show. Depending on where you lived, what city what state, the Local channel owners in partnership with the Syndicates, would air the programs when and where they had a place in their schedules. I knew people who worked in film & television at the time. I would get the industry trade magazines. They featured full page ads for syndicated television. Gi joe Transformers my little pony care bears jem etc. Were all mostly set for weekday 65 episode runs. The magazine included Ratings & promotions. Affiliate Networks are local channels owned separately from the main national channels, A Parent company (ABC NBC, CBS) most of them worked with their affiliates schedules to air Saturday morning shows. Local channels, not affected with a "Network" aired weekly syndicated television programs.
Where I live GI Joe, Transformers and Thundercats were never on Saturday mornings. Always after school. TMNT was the only Saturday morning cartoon that moved to weekdays.
The thing is, as kids at the time, we knew most if not all the cartoons were advertising toys. Sometimes I'd get a really cool toy and be kind of sad that it didn't have a cartoon.

When I was collecting the original 1980s through early 90s toy line I had everything available except for 104 pieces total. Roughly 2/3 of that were figures and the rest were vehicles and or playsets. I did this during 1990- 93 back when we didn't have such things as eBay. When collectors had to pound the pavement go to physically to stores and buy the merchandise from merchants. I practically gutted Tulsa Oklahoma and the surrounding area. My single biggest and best resource back then was Toys R Us. With that stores help I was able to reach all over the country to find what I was looking for.
GI Joe was great. It didn't puss around like He-Man where the characters couldn't really directly fight with each other (He-Man was forbidden from using his sword in an offensive manner; he could only block lasers and stuff, not get to slicing Trap-Jaw's good arm) GI Joe gave you gunfights (I know, not good in retrospect) fistfights, swordfights, dogfights, submarine battles. It gave us...violence, but with consequences. I remember the episode where the Lady Jaye took down a Rattler that crashed into some guy's house and nearly killed his family, and how anguished she felt for her role in the accident. This guilt led her to help the schmuck attempt to get some revenge on Cobra and learn a lesson about vengeance. I did think it was ridiculous how every Cobra Viper or grunt managed to jump out of a vehicle before it exploded or magically parachute before being blown to bits. But the show worked; the Joes always took prisoners and with a few exceptions, treated them humanely (looking at you Gung Ho)

Great video as always. From the UK here. Even though I grew up in the 80's I remember so many great cartoons but this is one that I don't think I saw even a single episode of. At that time, He-man and Thundercats were pretty dominant. Another RUclipsr I follow covered each character from GI Joe. Some of the characters were much deeper than what the pop culture gave them credit for. I did however have a GI Joe Jigsaw that I loved when i was little. Some toys you grow out of, and some things you wish you kept for nostalgia, getting rid of that jigsaw is one of my regrets.
In retrospect, GIJoe could have played Serpentor and Cobra Commander against each other. And the Autobots could have played Starscream and Megatron against each other. (Just like how in real life Communists play American blacks and whites against each other)
In the first two generations of toys, Cobra always seemed to have inferior and fewer weapons. -GIJoe had the hovercraft, but Cobra only had the puny Water Moccassan swamp boat -GIJoe had the Dragonfly helicopter, but Cobra only had the puny F.A.N.G. gyrocopter -GIJoe had the big Skystriker F-14 jet, but Cobra only had the smaller Rattler A-10 Thunderhog plane. -GIJoe had the big HAVOC vehicle, but Cobra only had the puny STUN vehicle -GIJoe had their own headquarters, while Cobra had no counterpart at that time -GIJoe had the USS Flagg aircraft carrier, but Cobra had no counterpart Around the third generation of toys, Cobra started to gain more “equality” with GIJoe in terms of armament. Cobra got “upgraded” with the Night Raven SR-71 plane, the hydrofoil, and the TerrorDrome. (Still no aircraft carrier, though)
“You got to have guts to stand for your rights!” Best lyric ever. And it contradicted the nonsense that public schoolteachers brainwash kids with - “Just walk away”.
Can’t believe you didn’t talk about Gung Ho. Based off of a Marine or Zartan. The toy would change colors in the water or something. Or vehicles like the Hovercraft.
For me, while GIJOE definitely contributed to my favorable view of the military...Cobra really got me excited about science. I learned DNA the same way the joes did, :)
GIJoe was where I first learned of the M-16, AK-47, Navy SEALs, and Army Rangers. However, they didn’t have a Green Beret until after the franchise was past its prime. They never had any Marine Force Recon or Delta Force, either.
That means just like all those other GI-Joe live flicks. Lady-J is gonna suck like the rest. Bring back the 80s talent s (If they're still alive) to do this. They had passion for the GI-JOE craft.
sometimes i wonder if this show wasnt propaganda for kids who would later face the "war on terror", after all cobra was a terrorist organization just like alqada. and when those kids are 18, that's when the towers fell
Wet Suit frequently called Leatherneck a “Jarhead”, but Leatherneck never called Wet Suit a “Squid”. In fact, I never heard the derogatory term “Squid” throughout the entire G.I.Joe series run. Was that term coined in the 90’s?
I collected g I Joe when it was a foot tall dolly. And when the cartoon came out I liked it. It was more than just casual watching because there was nothing else on. Wasn't a toy dolly collector. But when the classified series came out. I picked up a few. Hascrap did a great job with this line. But after hascrap pulse tried to rob by trying to charge me twice for my preorder for the blue variant Cobra commander. And then denied me my preorder I have vowed vengeance upon all unscrupulous action figure dolly corporate goons and their henchmen and will henceforth be known as super Todd! Sword of justice, lurker of hallways and alleys. Doer of goodiness and righter of wrongs in the universe. And crap like that 😝
I don't know how these youngsters doing these videos think they're qualified to do commentary on them when they always get the facts wrong!😂 I love that they're doing them, but at least get the history of it right! Thanks for this one! About time, too. And just in time for the 4th of July. 🇺🇸 G. I. Joe’s animated series was good, but it would’ve been better had it been consistent with what Larry Hama established in the Marvel Comics series and stuck to intelligent scripts similar to Jonny Quest. It should’ve been as serious like Space Battleship Yamato, Super Dimensional Fortress Macross or Thunderbirds 2086. While it had several good episodes (The MASS Device, Jungle Trap, Cobra’s Creatures, The Invaders, Cobra’s Candidate, The Viper Is Coming, The Battle For the Train of Gold) , it was marred by loads of utterly bad episodes like Lasers In the Night, The Conch of the Sirens (essentially a riff on Star Trek The Animated Series’ The Lorelei Signal, minus a smart character driven script); The Greenhouse Effect and a scad of others. It didn’t help that the series didn’t even bother to use the right Joes for a given episode (something MASK did), or that it promoted lies like Duke was ‘the leader’ and that he and Scarlett were an item (Larry Hama never supported such balderdash). And Story Editor Buzz Dixon claimed in G. I. Joe Yearbook #s 2-3 that the stories would be true to Larry’s characters, yet we see Lady J afraid of heights (she’s Airborne qualified); Spirit and Quick Kick able to take on Storm Shadow (who’s a Ninja), and the miswriting of Lt. Falcon in G. I. Joe the Movie, with Jinx’s ties to both Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow ignored. The 1986 Transformers the Movie was way better.
Sir, your Quick Kick slander will not go unchallenged in this sacred comment section. Quick Kick is, according to his Hama-drafted filecard, a RANKING black belt in Tae Kwan Do, Go Ju Ryu, Southern Praying Mantis Kung Fu, Tai-Chi Sword, Zen Sword, and Wing Chun. And, JUST LIKE Snake-Eyes, a qualified expert in all NATO and Warsaw Pact small arms. Snake's card says Snake is a black belt in 12 different fighting systems and highly skilled in the use of edged weapons. I believe based on this, they are equally skilled which means QK can hang with Storm Shadow. Now Spirit, I don't know where the cartoon got that silliness from, especially since Spirit was always losing their "blood feud." Quick Kick is the only Joe on the series to give it to SS even though SS got QK in the Excalibur episode (which you prolly hate, LOL!)
READ Marvel’s G. I. Joe #52. That’s the problem with the fans who actually think the cartoon’s true to the Marvel comic. Beside’s Quick Kick’s a joke in the cartoon.
@@dinomonzon7493 Umm, but like I said, I'm quoting the file card, not the cartoon, and QK IS JUST AS WELL TRAINED AS SNAKE EYES. So if SNAKE is Storm Shadow's equal, then QK can get up with him.
Best episode worlds without end, it was a kids cartoon that didn't talk down to kids just like batman TAS it was serious topics unlike the goofy cartoons you saw in the late 90s or on nickelodeon!
Arise, Serpentor, Arise - was the best GIJoe story. Serpentor was based on real historical figures (many of whom were later featured on Deadliest Warrior). In the story, Cobra attacks the real capitol of the United States. Bad@$$!
On my RUclips channel I like to make cool Cobra vehicles like a double cockpit water moccasin or a multi troop carrying Hydrofoil using Lego, but I did get several of the 2inch Kreo GIJoe/Cobra mini-figs.
Why the movies didn't just follow the weather dominator or mass device plot in live action is beyond compression so they fkd it up, it could have been great!!

I don’t think it was shown in the UK?
@@Warrior8bit I was almost starting to think that. I vaguely remember Transformers, which seems similar in a way on the surface. Conflict, explosions.
@@Warrior8bit In the UK I believe it was released on vhs as Action Force.
Cobra Commander actively worked AGAINST Serpentor's creation. Have u ever actually ever watched the show? Have your 'Editors'? 😏
In retrospect, GIJoe could have played Serpentor and Cobra Commander against each other.
And the Autobots could have played Starscream and Megatron against each other.
(Just like how in real life Communists play American blacks and whites against each other)
Great synopsis good work 👍
Robot Chicken spoofed the hell of the show in several episodes.
all episodes are available on hasbro yt channel
Why does Cobra have the cooler weapons, armor, people & etc.
Because thier cooler.Cobra is more slicker and the Joe's more utilitarian
In the first two generations of toys, Cobra always seemed to have inferior and fewer weapons.
-GIJoe had the hovercraft, but Cobra only had the puny Water Moccassan swamp boat
-GIJoe had the Dragonfly helicopter, but Cobra only had the puny F.A.N.G. gyrocopter
-GIJoe had the big Skystriker F-14 jet, but Cobra only had the smaller Rattler A-10 Thunderhog plane.
-GIJoe had the big HAVOC vehicle, but Cobra only had the puny STUN vehicle
-GIJoe had their own headquarters, while Cobra had no counterpart at that time
-GIJoe had the USS Flagg aircraft carrier, but Cobra had no counterpart
Around the third generation of toys, Cobra started to gain more “equality” with GIJoe in terms of armament. Cobra got “upgraded” with the Night Raven SR-71 plane, the hydrofoil, and the TerrorDrome. (Still no aircraft carrier, though)
To me, the DIC intro is more fun.
“You got to have guts to stand for your rights!”
Best lyric ever. And it contradicted the nonsense that public schoolteachers brainwash kids with - “Just walk away”.
Cobraaaaaa!
Okay , i know baroness its evil....buuuut she is very cute 😍
Yes, she was prettier than Lady Jaye.
I played the voice of Snake Eyes in GI Joe: A Real American Hero and the Revenge of Cobra. True story.
It's pronounced " Ser Pen TOR" not " Ser Pen Ter"
Thank you.
Can’t believe you didn’t talk about Gung Ho. Based off of a Marine or Zartan. The toy would change colors in the water or something. Or vehicles like the Hovercraft.
Gung-Ho never argued with Torpedo, but later on Leatherneck was always arguing with Wet Suit. They could argue and still fight Cobra at the same time.
First he says Saturday Morning Cartoon, then he says Sunday Morning Cartoon... GI JOE was a weekday series my guy!
sometimes i wonder if this show wasnt propaganda for kids who would later face the "war on terror", after all cobra was a terrorist organization just like alqada. and when those kids are 18, that's when the towers fell
Wet Suit frequently called Leatherneck a “Jarhead”, but Leatherneck never called Wet Suit a “Squid”. In fact, I never heard the derogatory term “Squid” throughout the entire G.I.Joe series run.
Was that term coined in the 90’s?
The way you're saying serpentor's name tells me you've never watched the show and is reading the script lol
And crap like that 😝
now we need the conan cartoon video
And now the reboot will be exposing the evils of anything not far left
good video
I don't know how these youngsters doing these videos think they're qualified to do commentary on them when they always get the facts wrong!😂
I love that they're doing them, but at least get the history of it right! The first two miniseries and the miniseries that kicked off the regular first season of GI Joe what's syndicated for weekday afternoons after kids got out of school exclamation point! What a time to be alive, so many great things happened in that era and we were much stronger and more free than we are today. Today, our children are pussies and the boys want to have one and the girls want to flex their Macho.
Fukin' sad, but one thing's for sure, Gen X love to fight back in the day call my so let's go out swingin'!
SER-pen-tor? You mean ser-PEN-tor!
I hate when someone who was too young to even be there tries to review something he knows nothing about. 😒
Quit watching at 4:12.
They forgot to mention that a new cartoon series is in development
Henry Golding returning as Snake Eyes is bad news.
Gi joe one my favorite cartoon from my childhood.
YO JOE!!! 🇺🇸🪖
Thanks for the video!! See you later!! Stay safe.😁 Happy 4th Of July.
Great toy line. Still enjoying watching the cartoons, but it's been 35+ years and I'm seeing with older eyes... Holy Propaganda!! I love watching and laughing along, but I'm not sure who the heroes are...G.I.Joe I guess...YO JOE! ( With love to Baroness ❤️). 🤣🤣
Canada still owes us an apology for their crap attempt at G.I. Joe
You talking about DIC? We don’t talk about that era of GI Joe or GI Joe Extreme
A series revolving around Lady Jaye. Figures.
Lol I’ve never heard anybody say serpentors name the way you do 😂😂
Cool video but your pronunciation of Serpentor is killing me! It's "Sir Pen Tour"
Sunday morning cartoon? Wtf weird alternate dimension is this guy from?
Saturday morning or weekday afternoon, and GI Joe was weekday afternoon.
That’s a hell of a botch to lead with.
G.I. Joe was weekdays after school.
I all ways thought Sgt. Slaughter voice self
Good video but the constant mispronounced of serpentor name got annoying especially given it said clearly with in the show clips
I am convinced that this channel mispronounces things on purpose to get more comments. They do it every video multiple times. But it could also be that people nowadays don't seem to know how to research, or say things correctly, at all. Serpin-tor, ugh.
The toyline was released in Spring of 1982, not Summer.
When mentioning the main Joes, you left out the most popular one of all, Snake Eyes? Blasphemy! :)
He had a very minor role in the cartoon although not as bad as stalker.
Sgt. Sluaghter is when it jumped the shark.
Nah, their demise came after the 1987 animated movie.
@perfectsplit5515 before!
I remember we used to just wait for them to show those first two adventures.
They had higher production value.
A year before the movie they were phoning it in.
@@secretsquirrel6718 "I remember we used to just wait for them to show those first two adventures."
Are you referring to the Mass Device miniseries and The Revenge of Cobra (Weather Dominator) miniseries?
How you say ... SEPENTOR over & OVER! LoL 😆 ... as'well thus series was on 5 day's a week, Every week... I'm NOT sure if I too heard you say ... Lady Jayne!? Cause it's LADY-J . Yet decent & good video... as'well HASBRO is NOT doing a Lone series on Scarlett noo more!!! Especially after how Snake eyes completely bombed!!!! Yet ..... what may be in development is a back story on DUKE! I'm sure they will scrap this too ...
Good times! Before the woke nonsense we have today in children cartoons. If GI Joe was on today first episode would be titled Pronouns for Peace 🤮 I was blessed to be a child in the 80’s!!!
Do you know what woke really is?
@@BrotherDerrick3X I do! a bunch of babies that want to see this country be destroyed. I thank God I live in part of my state that doesn’t tolerate such nonsense!
@David Bonanno why stop at past sins. America hasn't stopped committing sins. Some people like you won't admit that America was and IS guilty of sins.
@@BrotherDerrick3X
Not constantly dwelling on our past sins and current problems isn't the same as denying them. A show like GI Joe isn't the place for beating ourselves up, but during today's sensibilities of crapping on the US to satisfy the self-righteous guilt complex of virtue signalers, the show would be an "America and its values suck" lecture-fest, or it just wouldn't be made at all.
Are you someone who can't ever celebrate America's achievements and merits, or are you someone who doesn't recognize them?
@@demoskunk it is denying them. Especially when you are the one benefitting from it.
Constitutional Republic 👌🏻
Thanks for this one! About time, too.
And just in time for the 4th of July. 🇺🇸
Bad@$$!
#cia #whitehouse Yo Joe ' where's my stolen passport and identity cards??? #fcc
Lady Jay not Lady Jane
You need to watch the cartoon you are talking about before talking about it
Getting to many names wrong
On my RUclips channel I like to make cool Cobra vehicles like a double cockpit water moccasin or a multi troop carrying Hydrofoil using Lego, but I did get several of the 2inch Kreo GIJoe/Cobra mini-figs.
Why the movies didn't just follow the weather dominator or mass device plot in live action is beyond compression so they fkd it up, it could have been great!!
Cobra lalalalalalala 😅
Please watch the cartoon to learn how to pronounce Serpentor.
Can you do G1 transformers video please
Destro is a Scotsman, though he was played by a Black man (Arthur Burghardt).
Who wants a body massage?
GI Joe came on 5 days a week twice a day it never came on Saturday
GI JOE. WAS NEVER A SATURDAY MORNING CARTOON. IT. WAS SYNDICATED. AND CAME ON EITHER IN THE MORNING OR AFTERNOON 5 DAYS. A WEEK
You changed When Gi joe Aired. 3 times in thjs video😂😂😂😂😂
Wow
It wasn't Saturday morning it was after school. So you're wrong from the start.
Why is there logo the Dutch flag?
