DO THROTTLE CONTROLLERS REALLY WORK? Real World Back-to-Back Test - We Prove It!

- Shaun's done the ultimate real world throttle controller test! We've tested the 79 with and without an Ultimate9 throttle controller to see what the real difference is.
If your factory throttle response is dull and unresponsive, or your acceleration is slow & sluggish, installing a throttle controller can make a HUGE difference! Without changing anything inside the engine or risking your warranty, you can wake up your 4WD with better throttle response and get the power down when you want it.

Genuinely thought these throttle controllers were a gimmick.... Installed mine 2 months ago, wish I’d done it years ago. Makes a phenomenal difference when towing loads for work, driving around the town or crawling up a wooded track. I am temporarily running 35’s on standard diffs, this EVC throttle controller has made my truck feel normal with them on 😍
Usain Bolt beat the Hilux and the 79 on the 100m on road with or without the throttle control hahaha
That's exactly what I was thinking!!!
Yeah he was getting 9secs on the 100m hahahahaha
Didnt know Usain Bolt weighed 2.5T
@@cumdogz I get your point but you'd think a huge motor vehicle would do that quicker than a person with some quick legs hahaha
@@cumdogz its honestly just a joke
Made a difference to mine. After using it for a while I switched it off to see what it was like and its like im carrying a tonne behind!
"Thats just marketing hype till tested". This is also just marketing hype post, prior and during testing. They are awesome though.
got to say i was skeptical about these actually making a difference, but after talking with someone who was not sponsering them at all and buying one. i would recommend them to anyone who asked. Made a huge difference in my patrol.
Hey Shauno if started watching this 4x4 videos about 2 weeks ago and its all really really awesome... great videos keep on being awesome
Love the old cable accelerator 😂😎
Its been a while, glad to be back watching your videos!
fitted one of these ( Idrive) units 18 months ago prior to a minor big lap around/thru Oz to my 3.2L BT50 towing 22.5 ft caravan. Found U4 was best setting for our purpose, was great getting across intersections in traffic. I would recommend these to everyone...
Mate, that 79 has everything in it! What a beast!!
Would be cool to see a test/comparison with factory fitted snorkels vs. aftermarket/custom snorkels and associated air boxes etc, would even be interesting seeing the differences on the Dyno between the 2
Just brought one and it's makes a surprising difference it makes it so much more drivable. Very impressed
Got one in my ML triton, absolutely love it.
This certainly isn’t Project Farm kinda testing.
"includes paid promotion"
I Recently got a 4 wheel drive and doing it up and I got on of these and it’s amazing I love it
My 2012 Holden Colorado has a throttle controller an I love it
Saw you driving around the beach today Shauno, hope you have a ripper time while you're up here!
Good video, explained simply and showing measurable proof enabling even the least imaginative people capable of understand the advantage of using these products.
I've had an IDrive fitted for quite some time on my stock 2014 Auto Nissan Patrol. What impressed me the most was when I first fitted it. My driveway is quite steep, and usually it would kick back to 1st to get up it slowly. Now, with the controller, if I hit the driveway in second, it just powers up there. No lag, before kicking back to 1st gear.
Is it only for trucks or suvs? Because I wanna put one in my car
@@likent7992it's for cars too
I've got one in my GWM V200 and what a difference it make like you Shano I'm up bribie beach a lot of the time and live locally and yes that sand can be real soft. Good job
How good does the 79 sound though 👌🏻 bit more spice with that controller aswell
Helps having notifications on love you guys
Great test. Would love to see a egr reduction plate test before and after(not delete). What it does to turbo boost and low end power and the effects it mite have on the economy. Cheers
Loving your work guys! Would love to see a proper real world test on recovery boards... Budget aldi to top range maxtrax...
Ronny Dahl has done that.
Shauno cant wait to see your new dirty 30 do some adventures dude i just love to see what you have done with it
He’s already done a trip to Fraser and the cape it’s on there RUclips page
@@brendandevulder7762 ik i just cant wait to see more vidoes is what i was trying to say
Hey guys great work.
I would love to see the new 200 series vs the new Patrol
Well done Sean, need one for my brothers 3ltr Nissan patrol
i had a kings throttle controller in my 3.0l gu patrol it was ok still heaps of lag
i then purchased the idrive unit for $229and my god it was like driving a new car with the auto it was awesome back to back fraser trips ultimate 9 through nkgala rocks it was like lets go and ate it easy as. i love it i put into auto mode for everyday driving and it adjusts to your driving style
big thumbs up
Most important lesson learned -- A stock Hilux is faster than a tuned 79 ;)
Because it’s lighter...?
Auto vs manual.
79s = most over rated/priced pos on the planet.
Should have run the 79 against the triton 😂
Look at the weight difference 😂
Thinking about a throttle controller on new Ranger Wildtrack but actually really want to see you take a Wildtrack out and give it a real workout on one of your trips. One of the most popular 4WD's in Aus so would be really interested to see you try and break one.
Had to remove a couple due to putting the vehicle into limp mode. Removed it and no more issues.
Awesome product this idrive throttle controller. I have it installed on my LDV T60 and it really does make a world of difference. Cheers from Costa Rica legends!
Thanks for the info 👍 I ordered one thank you can't wait to test it
Can you guys test the difference changing diff gears makes when upgrading tyre size
I think that's already in the plans with the pony lux
@ Samuel Marks
You are in my mind was about to comment the same thing.
Got one in my 79 and hilux. Definitely makes a difference.
I think a throttle controller is just what I need for the new Triton towing the boat and camper trailer. Can you guys do some testing on different winches and metal shackles verse soft shackles. thanks guys
Great video, does it make as much of a difference to a petrol vehicle or mainly for the diesel lag?
Yes it does
It would be ace to see exhaust jacks tested.
The where and when they help the most
They cant have any affect in throttle lag, this is in the ECU. A throttle controller is just an electronic way of putting you foot down more..
That’s what I was thinking. It’s just a device that drives the motor harder than you think you are, yeah?
@@micknoname6466 It just brings the power earlier in the throttle when you push the accelerator down. I've got one. I have mine turned off to be honest for better fuel economy. I mainly use it off roading in eco mode where it makes you have a bit more control over wheel spin.
can you please test awnings ? so many options and designs. would bee good to see what you guys think
Just put one in my D22 Navara to get rid of the soggy pedal. Best mod I've ever done, major difference
Is it only for trucks or suvs? Because I wanna put one in my car
Was this on 2.5 litre d22? I just brought one gonna throw on later feels bogged all the time
I'd love to see you guys put the RAM 1500 in the mix when you do the next Ute comparison. Now that you have used the throttle controller will you leave it in your 79 series?
I installed one of these in my '19 Mazda CX-9 AWD and it makes a huge difference. I found a bit of mucking around with the setting gives the best personal results. I actually keep it in Eco 5 so I get nice cruisy ride out of it like a big S-Class Mercedes and don't use so much fuel. When I feel like putting the pedal down, I only crank it to Ultimate 5 because U9 is too powerful and I'll chirp front Pirelli's. Great product and I'll definitely be installing in my Hilux Rogue when it eventually arrives...along with a tune of course.
Test e lockers vs air lockers what’s the better option to go for ?
E locker. Doesnt require an air compressor mounted. Also, if it goes wrong, it wont preasurise and throw your diff oil out the breather....
@@jordanmcdonald6334 good points my only complaint about the e lockers are speed of engagement
@@ramsnrangers1152 does the dpeed matter? You need to be stationary when engaging them anyway.
@@ramsnrangers1152 lol. speed of engagement?? WTF You in a 4wd, in low range. No slamming gears in a lambo. Had E locker for years, loved it, would never get anything else. Air lockers always have something go wrong with them, somewhere, sometime. Fact!
@@ultimateadventuresblog6564 my only personal experience with e lockers is in american vehicles engagement is very lacking. i imagine a better computer system would help.
Can u go in to the side of how it’s hooked up to ur truck and how it works in detail. Live ur work guys 👌
They make a huge difference. I love mine.
I installed a HikeIt Throttle controller, there are a couple of other brands out there. They do what they say they will do. But when they are on your vehicle also uses more fuel.
Can you do a test on different types of lockers i.e. Air, electronic, auto or manual
Pedal torq here, 200 series. I realise there is a few makes about now, and they all do the same thing more or less. Having said this, standard 200 series throttle response is ordinary, but its what you get used to, until you get a throttle controller, then you will wonder why you didnt get one sooner. I cant offer any advice on this product in this vid as ive only seen mates with pedal torq's and win boosters in 76/79/200/hilux series and they love them. No, it doesnt give you more power, but they will take away a shit load of lag, eg, your foot used to go down 30% to achieve said response from engine, now it might be say 7%.... dont knock one until you have tried one i say.
You guys are legends
Love your vids
Awesome review
Hey shorno, would love it if you tested navigation devices out. I'm in the market for one and have know idea of which one to go for e.g app on the phone / ipad or dedicated device etc. Thanks mate..
Can you guys pls test out different roof rack tray pros/cons, brands vs price points. Steel vs aluminium etc. hope you guys consider this!! Cheers!
I have one on my Triton but would love to install one on my BMW X5 too.
Need to find something like that for my hj60 with 2h motor and after market turbo wish it had more pick up
Need one on my shorty 🤘🏿 got some lag without a turbski
Shauno i wanna see you test the pedal tourqe kit from TJM! and possibile compare to the idrive
test the little brass tyre deflators the ones where you pre set them and put one on each tyre i have never had much luck with them think Staun is one of the brands that do them
I wouldn't mind seeing a review/test on the redarc gauge range. They're at the top end of the market and are they really worth the extra $$$.
Test out the Sherpa winches! Made right there in Australia.
I ordered an EVC from Napa. Makes a huge difference.
What about testing and explaining different types of uhf aerials?
How much of that lag is actually the turbo lag not throttle response.
My thoughts as well.
The throttle controller wouldn't impact turbo lag would it? so the difference in performance would be due to the controller. That's how I saw it anyway
In the age of variable vane turbos not a lot
Drive a car with electronic throttle vs cable mate, turbo doesn’t have anything to do with that
Best money Ive spent putting one in my Lux and they really do work. Like some in these comments I was one of those that was sceptical about it. Once installed and my first time to drive with it WOW...instant response and couldnt be even more happier.
Put your foot down further?
Ranga doesn't work like that mate.
Proper tune would do that and more
Throttle lag is a real thing. I wondered why my RG Colorado always seemed to drive better when the cruise control was switched on and set to 100-109kph than just using the accelerator peddle.
I fitted one of these controllers today and was very surprised with the results!
I don't travel light as I usually am fully loaded with a rooftop tent with all the camping and recovery gear etc so it takes a bit to get moving. Now however, it drives like it's empty (I hate to think how it would go if it was empty) and it's great having that unleashed power when I need it!
Love the vid
Love to see a test of the New Land Rover Defender in the type of terrain you take your trucks to ...
You can see the 2nd run was a bigger launch to really prove if these work get two stock cars launch at the same RPM and then see the difference.
If he had a sharper throttle response then of course he would have a better launch.
@@danbaz6906 I’m sorry what?
If you launch a car with a throttle it doesn’t matter how sharp your throttle response is, you launch from a set RPM if you really think the 0.5 seconds it took him from the drop the clutch and move down on the throttle is made up by the Idrive you’re delusional.
@Krump 7 not arguing they don’t do anything I have one and it makes a difference to the feel of the car but it does not improve my 0-100 in anyway not with my tests anyways. I’m commenting on the fact that in the test the 2nd run was much more of an hard launch.
@@4x4CampingandAdventures sharper throttle actuates the throttle quicker and earlier in the pedal stroke. So yes, a sharper throttle response would produce a quicker launch.
@@danbaz6906 I’ll explain it this way if you have 100% of the throttle down on a launch you can’t make that any quicker it’s 100% on so in this test when Shauno took off the 2nd time it looked like 3 quarter throttle rather than the half or quarter throttle on the first test again this has nothing to do with the throttle response as the timer they use works on the time the car moves. So having a better start by taking off harder will 100% give you a better time down the other end.
Is this product only for Turbo diesels or will it work with gasoline vehicles also?
team 24/7 im thinking of a diff lock for my 2011 d40 navara , id love to know which diff locker is better and why, weather that be air locker or E locker or other id love to get some great info ...cheers guys love the content
I had front and rear arb air lockers and 7in lift in mine. It out performed comp trucks.
Can you guys now test the Sprint Booster to compare with the ECV?
Test hid lights older tech I know but how to they stack up to led light bars
Good comparison, not sold on the idea but a free one would be worth testing. Oh well it's a shame I don't have Facebook, would like to see some touring mods and comparisons for economy and engine longevity as that is what my budget could do with, keep up the videos though, cheers 🍻
Brilliant boys,
I've got one.
And I can attest it gives much better control out bush and sand
I have a 2004 gu di z30 patrol with a tune would love to win on of your ultimate 9 evc for when we go around Australia thanks guys
i notice driving my 79 on any U. mode milks the diesel, nearly thought i had a hole in the tank
Hi, very informative, advanced, and complete information regarding the throttle controller, thank you, but I have a question I hope the admin or 4WD 24-7
can answer regarding safety issue, My question is what if the throttle controller's device suddenly fails? or the little wire cut? Do we still have the control of gas pedal? or it will be back to normal mode? Thank you for hoping 4WD 24-7 can enlighten us. thank you again!
Unplug the TC from the pedal and change it back to factory
Have been contemplating a ECU chip for my Pajero Sport. Looking at ECU=shop ultra boost . Have you tested these ?
Quick question mate...when you talk about a vehicle tune, do you mean one done with the installation of an aftermarket EMU?
Is that bribie island where he did the soft sand test ?
i wouldnt mind a testing on elocker vs airlocker
Test the lokka auto locker, how do they handle on road, are they a pain?
What about fuel economy dose it go up with the throttle controller or dose it stay the same to what you normally get in your pacific vehicle???.?
I’d like to see you test out some winches big name like warn v maybe the cheep runva and throw the kings domin8or . May be some gps options the vms hema both the iPhone and dedicated hema unit and probably throw another brand in . Love your work 4Wd247
Put one in my Ranger. Absolutely love it. It changes the response of the engine, not the power whereas a tune is power not the response... Both together would be sweet...
They skipped the installation... About 3-5 minutes and you're done. Easiest install of anything.
On the ranger what setting do you have it on

Can you compare the 4wd wagons like you did the dualcabs plz
can you use these on any vehicle or just 4wd?
second pass on the 79, you definitely started with more right foot before you took off. At least makes the take offs the same....
He had a sharper throttle response, hence more right foot.
@@danbaz6906no chance, you allow for that when you're doing a speed test and accelerate early. It's about how much it improves, doesn't mean don't try give it stick without the controller.
@@neebean in the first run he is guided by his factory throttle parameters, it doesnt matter how hard he stomps his foot he will always get the same launch result.

I see the name has changed, and there are so many similarly named and looking units out there. Is this the same as the Idrive windbooster? That one has a similar look, but above the 'ultimate performance' label, there is an 'idrive' label, but the description of the product on ebay says windbooster.
Kings power pedal is awesome for the money and Bluetooth controlled so you can put it up behind the dash with a bit of double sided tape. Done 👍
can you please test a snorkel should i do two or 1 or just are they worth it
I have a Hilux and it made a heap of difference, but I have a HIKEIT X9. Can you do a test on it just to see if there's a difference.
is there a difference between the throttle controller working on petrols
Bloody stock hilux on eco mode did the sprint faster than 79 with a tune .... it's all just noise I supposed.
That is no surprise mate 79s are farrrkkking gutless. The hilux is also pretty bad
Can u test a after market intercooler
