I bought one recently as I have a diesel with throttle lag. The difference is amazing. Yes, you are not actually getting more power, but instead simply more throttle, but I’m telling you from experience. If you have a turbo diesel, the improvement in drivability is amazing. The low end lag is gone completely. I just set mine on auto.
Finally someone that explains it well. They’re nothing more than a cleaver illusion of more power because you’re getting more throttle than you’re used to for a given input.
Yes but as stated they have their uses. Eco modes are nice on corrugated roads and responsive throttles can be nice when your driving tracks that require you to slow down for obstacles but want get moving again instead of yielding all momentum.
If he’s talking about a throttle response controller. Then he hasn’t a clue what he’s talking about. It changes only the response time from pedal to throttle body. If does not change the pedal to throttle body ratio.
This is a good piece of information for those people wanting to learn more about throttle response. I would like to add some more info on the subject. When talking about electrical adjustments such as a throttle or volume control and speed of response it is referred to as gain. Gain is the rate of response. You can have positive gain and negative gain. Negative gain gives you more control over at system but may reduce the overall output. The throttle controller does not reduce the total output but as stated modifies the lower 50% of throttle travel. While this works well on all in engines it is particularly effective for petrol engines as 70% of air flow through the throttle body is achieved with only 30% of throttle opening. Any negative gain given in the first 30% of throttle movement will give more control over power in this area.
I have a throttle controller installed in a 2010 3l diesel manual Holden Colorado, when driving in traffic I like to have a very responsive throttle so I set mine on setting 9 in race it works fine, when I'm out on the open road I just use Auto setting ,it's all about experimenting with the throttle controller and finding what best suits you.
Thank you adventure corp for a true and simplified explanation! Definitely helps, recently got a 2013 colorado with one, dont know what previous owner has done but its just puffs a ton of black some when it reachs 3000rpm, but exhaust ends just before back diff and i swear their should be a rear muffler ( correct me if wrong)
I have ordered one for my Infiniti Q50 3.5 GT Skyline hybrid 364 hp. I have been told it will reduce the lag and rev almost instantly. There is currently a bit of lag and won't rev up instantly which is annoying sometimes. They say the lag is to make accelerating more smooth and more controlable. it will be interesting to see how it goes.
I have just installed the IDRIVE throttle controller it definitely makes a difference on the pedal response I used to push the vehicle hard before the IDRIVE installation now it’s not the case so I would say it’s worth the money but if you want more engine power this is not for you doesn’t change much on the torque or kilowatts people need to understand the difference that’s why it’s called a throttle controller
Great insight mate. I purchased an EVC controller this morning and will be fitting it later. Glad I did some research first and came across your vid. No unrealistic expectations on what it will do and im excited to use mine. Cheers!!!
Hi, Great video! I own a 2023 Pajero Sport, love the vehicle however when pressing down on the accelerator pedal and being a diesel all / most of the power is mid range so there is quite a delay until acheiving power. Would a throttle controller help in this scenario in removing this delay? I’ve found the delay frustrating especially when merging in traffic and going around round-abouts. Hopefully I’ve explained my situation correctly. Looking forward to your thoughts. Cheers!
Hi i own a 1litre car 3 cylinder automatic gears with serious lag in speed and shifting. I looking forward to purchase this device my only worry is about the effect of the throttle control in the engine in the long run and in case the device malfunctions as i drive in the highway with my family quite frequently. Can you please suggest.
I have a 09 civic and it has a really annoying throttle lag is a throttle controller something that would really help get rid of thenlag I've got (I've found out it's not just me I've spoke to a fellow civic owner who has asked about his throttle lag also)
What about the safety aspects of aftermarket throttle controllers? Most of these aren't certified. No throttle in a rail crossing or failure to decrease throttle in a highway?
The amount of people I talked to that have bought one and think that it gives them more power well, it's pretty much everyone. I have a background in electronics computers and also EFI. I've given up trying to explain it, people just don't believe me.
I purchased one for my mitsubishi delica d5 2010 petrol as the throttle lag was killer. most times i have it set in auto control but sometime power 5 setting and it made heaps of a difference compared to when i didnt have it connected. the factory throttle lag is terrible lol
Thanks for the video. Question though. I have a Patrol ZD30 Di. Most (if not all) of the throttle controllers I find only support the ZD30 CRDi model. Why is this? Is there a throttle controller that will work for a direct injection ZD30 engine? Thanks!
Most of the reactions are positive reactions when you plant your foot. No the throttle controller does not give you more power but it does give you your power quicker
Nothing substitutes for a professional engine tune, Factories don't tune for engines to run at there best. Just ask yourself, If there tuning IN throttle lag.... what else have they tuned in, or should I say tuned OUT in performance ....
Gday, You can fine tune how you want it to feel, as well as making the throttle response lessen when you're trying to back it into a tricky spot. I'd recommend it.
People use them at about 25% and see a power increase relative to how much they are accelerating, they assume this will continue at 100% throttle. Very useful bit of kit but companies indirectly mislead people saying 'unleash the power'. Honestly not worth the effort of explaining and treading on eggshells to avoid lawsuits.
@@jmac822 After seeing 'A Current Affair' (TV show) walk into his shop with cameras trying to make him look like a con artist and the other bad luck he's had with competition businesses... I'm complimenting his efforts but it's a fight he doesn't need. ACA treated him like shit didn't they, just wanted a story that they could throw on the tv. Yeah hats off to him, he does well with all the corporate bullshit.
Appreciate the comments guys! Didn't see ACA mention the special needs school defibrillators we donated that's already saved kids lives, the vehicles we donate to the rescue services to cut apart for experience to potentially save a loved one's life one day, multiple clean up initiatives and fundraisers we are involved in. They are more interested in drama because it gets people talking. But that's what happens when a "news" show is actually just an entertainment show in disguise. I guess ACA were just lucky it was me, because a story like that could easily wreck a business if reacted to wrong. Onward and upward!
@@adventurecorp spot on, they didn't mention that at all. You should do a vid on the stuff you've done for people and the community, just a quick one with shots of what's been done in the past to help out.
You appear to be talking about some sort of throttle ratio controller ? Which I have never heard of and frankly makes no sense Or Are you talking about a Throttle Response Controller ? Which only increases the response time or in other works reduces the lag time, from pedal to throttle body. It does NOT change the ratio of pedal to throttle body. 0=0, 25%=25%, 50%=50% and so forth. If you are “trying” to talk about the latter. Then I suggest you check your facts.
Great Vid. Ta. Gotta ask though... There must be something about the throttle controller that causes the ECU to react differently. If you stab the pedal to the floor there is quite a delay before the engine responds. On U9 the engine responds so quickly. It is almost as though there is more than just a TPS value being sent to the ECU by the pedal. That extra response is a bit addictive. :)
Its due to the throttle signal being allowed to ramp in faster. Factory settings are similar to an "economy" mode, otherwise people would complain about it being jerky.
@@adventurecorp Nice explanation/vid. There are many (unverified) reports online of a reduction in lag off the line. How does a throttle allow the TPS to ramp up quicker? It isn’t replacing a control module so I assume it is only providing an altered signal value to the ECU not providing it quicker. There is very little time difference in depressing a throttle 50% or 70%. Thus an altered signal tricking the ecu into thinking 50% is 70% (or similar) shouldn’t have a material impact on lag. I have a Triton with noticeable lag from a standing start. Simply pushing the throttle to 70% (compared to 50% over the same elapsed time) makes no difference to the lag, just the behaviour post lag. Are the claims of reduced lag false?

@@dalefaurschou3167 no such beast mate, just cleaver marketing.
But changing the mapping does change felt-power delivery which can liven up the driving experience.

Without it, your ute is better.
With it, your ute is amazing.

If a throttle controller eliminates the delay, will the vehicle consume more fuel?
I have actually been getting more kilometers to a tank since I got mine because the engine doesn’t rev as hard but accelerates better
