So, dictionaries are real things in programming. They're sometimes called "maps" or "hash tables" (or "hashmaps"). Either way, they're just a fancy way of saying it's a bunch of objects or variables that can be accessed by a key, usually a string name. Obviously, it's not quite like it shows here 😂 Unless that's a visual representation of the heap, which is the part of a program's memory that's used to store arbitrary data... maybe it's a dictionary on the heap? 😂
The ways its shown is actually done as well. Go watch some episodes of boundary break. Objects and characters might be stored under the map until they are called
Most of the reasons mat couldn't figure these puzzles out is because he isnt listening to the Game's clues, or just inconveniently interrupting his dialogue with other interactions...
Off-topic idea here, but when they get to 3.5 mil, I think it'd be really cool to see them react to their first ever FNaF video. Like, their first time playing it.
starting to feel like some of these games should be filmed beforehand and edited down before posting..... its a 5-hour game that he may never finish if he overthinks this much
Yeah. When they did live streams they always said "too bad this is live and we can't cut to the end like other youtubers" when it took too long to make progress. Well now they could and should do just that, because it's really frustrating if you already know the solution
I find puzzle games like this quite interesting to watch (although sometimes frustrating too, but it's not ruining my enjoyment of the let's play) The Full Moon puzzle was to me really simple. I knew the tounge could interact with the moon, but seemingly nothing else could = the tongue is the key, important to remember. I knew I needed to make it a full moon, aka, paint it with yellow because it is so clearly created to already be a painted half moon that hints to the player that you can, indeed, paint it with something. There is paint laying around. So tongue+paint = paint the full moon with the tongue. To me that was a fun puzzle, but MatPat was unhappy with it because it wasn't what he had thought of. He thought of things he liked better. Which is okay, but a puzzle game usually always only allows for one solution, and this game is doing pretty great at hinting the player towards that one solution. MatPat, I think, thinks a bit too hard about it all. He likes to come up with his own solutions that's maybe a bit more out of the box, or at least not what the game is trying to lead him to. And he is maybe trying to think a bit too far ahead and misses the middle steps that he needs to take, and he tends to forget to really pay attention to the game's hints, which are all there for him. He did remember the snow, though. I had almost forgotten that so that would have taken me a bit to find. But that was a great example of remembering the tools, resources and logic of the game, and make use of it. I do hope that he eventually falls into the correct thought process that matches this game, because I'd really hate i he'd end up struggling with it to the point of not enjoying it as much anymore. It's a really great and fun game. Still enjoying this though, I hope Steph can make it to some of the NotLives with this game eventually!
Matt does this. He's very intelligent. Very. However he relies entirely on his logic and analysis skills, pushing any instinctual actions to the side. This is why puzzles that appear obvious can take him forever to figure out, as he fixates on the wrong things.
MatPat: Only the moon causes that licking sound Also MatPat: *dunks everything BUT the tongue into paint SaltPat: Of course the tongue is a paint brush Me: Poor MatPat, overthinking what should be a simple puzzle

im shocked that mat didn't make a comment about the fact that the character Wilhelm is named that after the whelm scream that also happened early in the scene
I came to the comments to say exactly this! For years and years every time I hear it I always say "Wilhelm Scream!" out loud. It's like a reflex. I laughed when they said, "It seems to be coming from our dear neighbor Wilhelm's home," and I was a little surprised Mat didn't pick up on it
Is it just me or is it funny how Matpat in this video is like Holmes from the game: he overthinks most things; ignores possible solutions; and dislikes some puzzles because he struggled with the solution, despite having thought of far more outrageous solutions and claiming that they made more sense. Meanwhile we the audience and the overly tired Watson waiting for him to figure it out because he can't/won't hear us.

When Matpat Kept Licking the moon trying make it Full, yet Didn't use the tounge on the Paint, I was Screaming "The Fact you can Lick the Moon Should tell you that you can use the paint on the Tounge." I wouldn't be so mad about it if he did't acknowledge the Tounge interacted the moon, and tried it multiple Times. That would have given me a BIG Clue.
I know right, I was almost ready to scream at my phone to tell him to lick the paint. But then I remembered that this is a video and yelling would do nothing
There are some things that were super obvious to him that was difficult for.me and vice versa. :P gotta remember everyone thinks diffrently haha
I did the same thing and was so mad
Same!! I was yelling at the screen to use the tongue as a paintbrush with the paint!!
And then used every other object in the paint besides the tongue
Matpat: "The tongue is the brush obviously"
Also Matpat: "licking the moon a million times is the answer!!!!!!"
MatPat : Gets the reference of 'TV Snow', probably the most obscure reference in this chapter.
Also MatPat : Struggles to figure out the tongue can be colored.
I think the TV snow reference is a cultural thing, people call that static, different things in different places. I got that one immediately, but licking paint didn't occur to me either, I got caught up in the classic... thinking the eye was going to be the full moon
@@silvertail7131 I think it's also an age thing. I'm only a couple years older than MattPatt, and our generation definitely referred to it as snow. I suspect younger people, who've never owned TVs that only got broadcast channels and never *really* saw static would have no idea it was ever called that.
@@mritty115 We called it ants so I would never get that one
When you're so smart you start to overcomplicate easy puzzles :
Mat : "The problem of being faster than light is that you can only live in darkness"
You mean suffering from success?
The tongue being the brush actually made perfect sense lmao, you were just bitter 😂
It was either frustrating or funny that he seemed to try dipping everything except the tongue into the paint at one point.
The agony of knowing what he should do and not being able to actually tell him. You Can Lick the Moon, You Can Dye things. The Tongue is the Brush.
I know right?!
What’s even crazier is that he thought the paintless licking was having ANY effect.
Matpat is like, "I can lick the moon" "I need to paint the moon yellow", how he didn't put the two thoughts together is beyond me.
I love how the Help button just sits there, but because of our pride we can't accept that we can't solve a puzzle when it's becoming annoying, and the results? Be dissatisfied with the solution because it was the last one you had.
I suffer this a lot, actually.
@Juan Cruz Garcia funny thing is, the game actually boohs you when you select to see the hint, as if it's disappointed you did so.
I used to suffer this problem, eventually I was able to learn that hints Are THERE FOR A *REASON*
I forgot the help button existed
I kind of abuse the power of the hint, so it’s more of a middle ground lol
The narrator gives you so much help, it's relatively useless most of the time.
"I'm going to be sick! Ha, no I can't I'm a program."
I dunno, you could CATCH A BUG :D
This is "MatPat violently micromanages a game when There Is No Game."

Game theory the program is the soul of GIGI's child
Which has no meaning until the end.
@@loganshaw9198 It's a reference to the old style point and click adventure games. To prevent piracy, games would ship with a special code wheel like that in the instruction manual and at some point, the game would ask you for a code.
The idea being that a pirate wouldn't have access to the wheel and thus couldn't complete the rest of the game. I believe in one game you end up being forced into "pirate jail" in the actual game but I can't remember all the details that well.
@@Hiiyapow he wasted a lot of time on a reference.
Lmao it took mat 10 minutes to figure out how to break a window. He may be big, pulsing brain, not small, smooth brain, but man does he overthink things. No hate tho I love mat. Holy flippy dippy dip 130 likes!? Thank u all!

MatPat: I wonder what I do with this fist...
Me: Oh, he'll get this in no time.
Me: He'll get this eventually.
Me: How is he not getting this?
Me: This is gonna be a long episode.
Me: MatPat, please. You've been on the same puzzle for ten minutes now.
Me: YOU KNOW THE PAINTS DO SOMETHING, JUST KEEP MESSING WITH THEM!!
Me: I can't take this much longer...
Me: ZzzzzzZzzzzzZzzzzz....
even I was like "I'm sure he'll figure it out.

... how long is this? (longer than it should have) Oh boy."
And with painting the moon... it took him at least 10 minutes...
Ikr
Honesty same thing with most youtubers doing thsi its annoying
Basically , dont underestimate matpat but dont overestimate him aswell
That song was “No One is Alone” from Into The Woods.
Dang, you got there first. But ye!
You’re smart. Or a theater nerd. Or both.
Sometimes I forget that matpat is a theater kid lol
I was a part of this musical in high school. It’s a really good one
Mat: All your other puzzles are obvious!
Also Mat: *Takes 16 minutes to find out glass is fragile*
After 20 minutes of "Paint the moon using the mouth" and "Where's Steph when you need her?"
...
Mat: "I can't be imagining that the paint is coming off--"
Me: "You are"
Mat: "Surely you don't have to click it this many times"
Me: "You don't"
Mat: "But I could swear the moon was changing"
Me: "It's not. You have to paint it"
Mat: "But what if..."
Me: *"STEPHANIEEEEE"*
I like how matpat focuses on details that lead to nothing at the current state like the conspiracy theorist he is.
Why is he so slow to understand how to play games?
@@S.B.C-Pixi I've seen some also take more time than really needs to be.
Also.. Maybe need to look at that hinge 😏
You can tell when mat is salty. He thinks licking the moon ob its own is logical but it then takes him 10 mins to realize he could colour the tongue and he disagrees with the games logic lol
Me, watching Mat not wanting to break the tv: My friend, you forget that in this game you are an agent of chaos
Me for literally like half an hour: LICK THE PAINT! PLEASE USE IT AS A BRUSH!! LICK THE PAAAAAAAIIIIIIIINNNNNT!!!!!!
MatPat: no I don’t think I will

Matthew Patrick: "Can I bang the moon?"
Matthew spent 1 hour on a section that’s supposed to take 20 minutes this will be a long game
Well he just got so fixated on licking the moon
The problem is that he got way ahead of himself, focusing on mechanics that weren't useful yet.
He thinks too much. Lol. Just a little bit too analytical.
He OVERTHINKS WAS TO MUCH
This has been one of the most interesting streams I have ever seen. I love seeing MatPat like this, very raw, no stress, full commentary. The way your thought process works is very impressive, clap and a half! Stay safe and all the best to you, your family, and your team.

and also, Matpat the paint didn't change it's called the placebo effect.
I love that after a WHOLE HOUR of struggling, he figured out the last puzzle with ease.
I watched markiplier play already and I’m just screaming at mat for everything he’s missing
Omg I was doing the same it was stressful 😧
same. as soon as i saw that code on the side in mark playthrough i went, i bet matt going to focus on that. he gets a fist and doesn't think to play with it. ugh
Too smart for his own good
PUNCH THE WINDOW GODDAMNIT
I saw Dan TDM play part of it
Instead of "Gameplay Begins" they should have made "Non-gameplay Begins" lol
Literally started freaking out when I heard him singing an Into the Woods song because it's my favorite musical
I just loved how the neighbor to Holmes and Watson was named Mr Wilhelm after the famous scream he made, cute touch I’m sure Mat would have loved if he’d caught it.

I agree. Maybe he will finish it someday.
when mat's stuck and he's says he can't do anything I'm yelling at the screen because he's ignoring the window

No, but I assumed a bunch have

It caught me so off guard when he stated singing into the woods that I had to rewind and do a double take. That was a nostalgia flashback I had no way of preparing for
32:05 Idk if this is true about any other games, but in the original Paper Mario objects/characters would be stored 1000 units beneath any given room. So if there was a cut-scene with Princess Peach (for example) she would be teleported up to the room and sent down when it was finished. It may be an homage to how they did it back in the day! Any% speedrunners teach you a lot man! If Mat ever see this know that I've been watching you since i was like 8.
Mat pat sang into the woods! I love that musical.

I absolutely love the Wilhelm scream reference! At first I was like, oh fun, it's the Wilhelm scream, but then it turned into a lore piece and made me smile!

"Oh, the things I plan to do with that fist..." ~ MatPat (2020)
@@hanakoisbestgirl4752 Sure, but that's not a dictionary (or at least I've never heard that term used to describe that technique).
Poor MatPat. He really went crazy after the tongue and moon thing.
MatPat: "All of the other puzzles were easy"
Also MatPat: *takes more than 10 minutes to figure out how to get a full moon*
"Oh, the things I plan to do with that fist, dear"
Me watching MatPat lick the moon for like a minute, thinking the paint is moving:
Into the woods, love that song and these channels. They're getting me through all this, talk on all you want!
I find puzzle games like this quite interesting to watch (although sometimes frustrating too, but it's not ruining my enjoyment of the let's play)
The Full Moon puzzle was to me really simple.
MatPat: Only the moon causes that licking sound
Also MatPat: *dunks everything BUT the tongue into paint
SaltPat: Of course the tongue is a paint brush
Me: Poor MatPat, overthinking what should be a simple puzzle
I can't be the only one who was yelling "lick the paint" at the screen. he literally started trying the items and stopped at the mouth please tell me he licks the paint
Edit: FINALLY
When Matpat was stuck using the tongue for the moon I literally kept skipping 10sec forwards and was nearly a good minute until he stopped!😂
"Can I bang the moon?" Matpat channeling his inner Sokka I see 🤣
im shocked that mat didn't make a comment about the fact that the character Wilhelm is named that after the whelm scream that also happened early in the scene
I came to the comments to say exactly this! For years and years every time I hear it I always say "Wilhelm Scream!" out loud. It's like a reflex. I laughed when they said, "It seems to be coming from our dear neighbor Wilhelm's home," and I was a little surprised Mat didn't pick up on it
Surprised Matt hasn't played Desolate Hope yet. It's a really cool game and whether or not it's cannon I'd love to see him play.
THIS IS THE MOST FRUSTRATING GTLIVE I'VE EVER WATCHED
I actually yelled "Matthew Patrick!" and scared my dog
"i just like the color purple, it's a nice color"
oh matpat,,,,
Is it just me or is it funny how Matpat in this video is like Holmes from the game: he overthinks most things; ignores possible solutions; and dislikes some puzzles because he struggled with the solution, despite having thought of far more outrageous solutions and claiming that they made more sense.
Meanwhile we the audience and the overly tired Watson waiting for him to figure it out because he can't/won't hear us.
Alternative title: Mat licks a moon for about 2 minutes straight.
to be fair, the tongue thing is kinda a homage to the ridiculousness that was problem solving in things like Day of the Tentacle or Monkey Island.
