Alex Gubar start with the big things or you’ll never fit them in. Life is far too short for only doing what is essential. Take breaks, turn up the burner on hobbies, creativity, and vacation. Start with work though, and focus to get in and get out. Money is a tool to do the rest, and work and service is the rent we pay to others for our time here.

That metaphor though: mindlessly scrolling on social media doesn't fall into one of the burners (work, health, relationships, hobbies), it's more like poking a hole in the gasline.

Here's my 1% Rule log for this video:
    - Lots of effort put into the thumbnail's composition; it stitches multiple pictures together (see the process in the Production highlight reel on my Instagram profile: instagram.com/tomfrankly/ )
    - Heavy, heavy sound design - made use of a lot of panning, reverb, and clip-specific EQ to achieve a better mix
    - Learned how to create a rising number counter in After Effects, along with a manually-created LCD screen effect
    - First use of a 360 camera
What is the 1% Rule? Essentially, it's the idea that you should aim to get 1% better with each piece of work you do, instead of pressuring yourself to create "perfect" work. Over time, these 1% improvements add up as long as you're consistent. More info, along with my journal for all videos, here: thomasjfrank.com/my-1-rule-journal/
P.S. - how balanced does your life feel to you right now?

    • @rusinsr

You have an extra parenthesis at the end of your instagram URL ;)
I'm a pretty new viewer, so take this following criticism with a grain of salt, but your videos are better at 1.25x speed or more. (i.e., feel slow at normal speed) Great stuff though!

9:50 "The value of time isn’t determined solely by the amount of time itself, but also by the intensity and the strategic value of the effort that you exert during it."
Brilliant. Sometimes I already know what I should be doing, but I can't bring myself to commit to it. The way you word things brings a new way of thinking about common and consistent problems. This sort of mental trickery is exactly why I susbcribed.

the qualities of your videos just keep getting better it’s insane

  • @tharmaster2565
    @tharmaster2565 4 года назад +5

Summary of the video (in detail)
    1. Set obligations that help make the balance that you want to find, more achievable. So if you are trying to find the balance between the quality and quantity of RUclips videos, you want to set a deadline for when the video should be uploaded, but also strive to improve at least one aspect from the last one that was uploaded, which would be journaled. This idea can be utilized for any creation of art, video, or even a school project. A balance that would help with a social balance would be scheduling chat times ahead of time.
    2. Identity negative external factors that often push you to be on the work burner. It’s easy to feel inadequate or feel that you’re not working hard enough with the presence superficial social media (Fomo, acceleration, jealousy) In the end, it’s important to realize the things that genuinely make you happy; the things that you enjoy the process of, instead of only the end result. Make a list and make the habit of reminding yourself of that list.
    3. A lot of times, our energy is spent on zero of the main burners: work, health, relationships, and hobbies. Things put into this category for example would be: scrolling through your feed all day, internet browsing, etc. Ideally, you want to cut a good amount of the energy (not necessarily 100%) that may be in this category, because the four other burners are much more meaningful. Another thing that matters is this intensity of your work. You need to be as engaged in your task as you can possible, and this will be important in making any form of progress. Anything I missed?

Your videos are becoming more professional and mature looking over time. Additionally, it’s nice to see parts of your humour appear in B roll clips. I’m glad you were able to find an editor that understands and shares the same vision for each video. You allowed yourself to focus on research and script writing without a major concern for the editing of the final product. It is really tough to trust others, even with simple things, when one has perfectionist tendencies. Be proud :) And finally, thank you for sharing the process of how you made this thumbnail on Instagram.

The problem with this sudden pandemic situation is that no one is prepared and most of people are not even trying to understand the situation.
Because when you know something is coming the best thing to do is try and understand what's coming because that way you will be able to position yourself to survive and also to benefit from it.
And also when there's crisis there's also opportunities.

I work with Small Business Owners. For most of my clients, work-life balance is hard and the psychological burden can be intense. They have fewer resources to manage essential tasks and a finite amount of daily energy to manage them. I teach strategies for process development and delegation (when onboarding staff is a viable solution). Overall though, your business simply cannot override your self-care. When your business is your output, knowing what is worth committing your energy to is essential!

Thanks as always for this. As a fan for 4 years now I often know the right habits already but I tend to fall short. And I think because they do not address the things underneath -- lack of boundaries, fomo and self-worth. This video hits those things and hits the issues deeply as well. Thank you so much!

    Schedule important personal activities.
Things such as exercise, date nights with a spouse and more can quickly fall by the wayside if they aren’t purposefully scheduled.

Very very good rendition of practical methods AND internal causes for not so rational pressures.
It's more important to work on those beliefs of not being good enough, capable or useful first.
No amount of information+motivation can be as effective as "unmounting" the beliefs that cause our undesirable patterns of behavior.
