63 with bad knees here. My doctor (at my request) prescribed sodium diclophinac tablets for my severe knee pain. A 100 mg tablet would last me 2 days. Sometimes even 3 days. Even after I showed him the small amount I was using, he stopped prescribing them. I tried Volteron and the the wally world equate version. It usually took 3 applications in one day before I felt relief, but it didn't last long. Not even over night. Now I do some herbal and natural oral stuff, but discovered your channel and have been doing some of your exercises. They seem to help, but nothing has worked better than those 100 mg tablets.

Gave the unopened tube away to someone else. Later, I found out another member of my family bought a tube thinking it might help with his back pain but after reading the instructions decided that wasn't an appropriate use and he gave his unopened tube to me. I am a US Marine Corp, Desert Storm/Shield Veteran. I have Arthritis in every joint in my body, along with Degenerative disk disease, bone spurs, pinched nerves, Radiculopathy and Plantar Fasciitis.
I used to use diclofenac for about two years, but it really did not relieve any pain for me. I have also used Lidocaine patches (5%) and those take some of the sharpness away from the pain, but those patches don't stick long and I have to wear 5 or 6 of them just to get any relief.
The only thing that has ever helped get rid of my Arthritis pain completely, is smoking weed!
If I take a few puffs off of a one hitter, I will have Zero pain for the next three or so days.

Also available in pill form (highly effective). The Osteo Gel version (In Australia) at 23.2 mg/g is the strongest available over the counter. The stuff just works. It is not as long lasting as a topical application as the pills are, and everyone's situation is different but it has kept me working and playing guitar for the last couple of years. The applied quantities shown in this video are ridiculously over the top and must appear on the US packaging. A 6mm (1/4 inch) application does my thumb, palm heel and inner wrist easily. Generally considered to be one of the safest NSAIDs. The generic Diclofenac products are cheaper, Voltaren is just a brand.

After abandoning the pills for a few years (which completely stopped the reaction) Diclofenac/Voltaren became available OTC and I bravely tried it in the topical form. I'm sorry, but I have to push back on this advice. I was diagnosed with knee arthritis about 15 years ago, and it was left untreated for some 10 years, because my doctors said, oh well, it's a normal part of aging. Eventually, it got bad enough that I could walk maybe one block before I was howling with pain. I asked to be sent to someone in sports medicine. We talked about physical therapy, different shoes, etc., and then the doctor said, oh, and you should be using diclofenac. Two weeks. That's all it took to make a noticeable difference, with no PT yet. I am back to leading hikes. I bring the diclofenac along, and apply it half-way through the hike. I do not apply it four times a day unless I am hiking. Never had skin irritation. And it's not necessary to apply as much as the instructions say. I am using a generic, rather than Voltaren. The generic is a 1% gel, where Voltaren has a slightly higher amount of diclofenac. People use diclofenac long term. You do not need to stop after a few weeks. Most of the listed side effects are for oral use. Also, do not let any fear of something being "made in a lab" or "unnatural" dissuade you. Yeesh, consider all the poisons that will kill you in short order...that are "natural".

I certainly am. I am allergic to all NSAIDS & when I applied a small amount of Voltaren I immediately started toi feel unwell. I can't even take 1 Advil safely.
Some gp's will try to push this medication even if you tell them you've had allergic reactions to drugs such as Naproxen or Advil. This cream goes into the blood stream all the same.
I just hate the thought of patients feeling pressured by their doctor to use this because the majority of people don't have a bad reaction. Beware!

I found this medication absolutely worthless, I am over 65 and have had a stroke about 20 years ago. It was actually an arthritis medication along with an other prescription drug that caused my stroke in my 40’s. Natural products and the doctors RUclips site are the only thing that has helped me survive. Thank you!

The heart attack and stroke warnings are based on adverse events when diclofenac is taken orally (and I would not use it by that route). FDA requires the warning. But with topical application there is no evidence of that effect at the concentrations used in these gels. There is quite a bit of literature on that.

Good reminders: I was taking oral dicofenac after a car accident about 8 years ago~had whiplash~decided to go to Physical Therapy and did that for quite some time, an hour of various exercises every day! Cut back was taking the oral med still, had plantar fasciitis treated by a great podiatrist, he urged me to only "pulse dose" it for a few days at a time. Then I switched primary care doctors thank goodness. Well, I developed stomach problems (polyps) and had my 1st endoscopy 2023, then another 2024, polyps etc. removed and have completely STOPPED oral NSAIDS. Have had a neck injury from a smaller accident 2 months ago, back to PT, not taking oral NSAIDS, I can use the topical for thumb arthritis and knees. However, I avoid these things. I am a pianist and my hand doctor told me that practicing helps keep the arthritis in the thumbs at bay! I have found that to be true. Yeah long story, but doctors who just keep writing Rxs w/o periodic evaluation and updates can cause HARM. Glad we switched primary care provider in 2019 before the pandemic.
Sorry for the long comment but I have watched your videos for advice for walking for the knees and feet troubles, and your suggestions are helpful! Thanks for your videos!

A year ago I was hospitalized for mental health, and they noticed the way I walked and I told them I had osteoarthritis in both needs and I couldn't take NSAIDS because of a medication I was on. They gave me Voltaren up to 4x per day, I did it twice. It really seemed to help. I used it every day for 2 months. Then when I returned home. I only use it 2x week or when I went out. The extreme pain returned and stiffness. I am trying to use it at lease 1x pe day or 2x per day. You didn't mention it is quite expensive and insurance doesn't cover it. My pharmacy has it for $22 for a large tube. My neighbor found it at a discount food warehouse like Costco. It was $35 for 2 large tubes and I small one. Thanks for your video!

Please lift the tub up higher as what you are doing is hidden behind the subtitles. Also, why keep going to the Dr. for every little question. Why not just ask the pharmacist at the shop (it is free to ask the pharmacist) who dispenses all medication and they specialise in the combination of taking the prescribed medication and the over the counter medication and their interaction with each other.

I live in Ireland and it's called voltarol here. I have been using it for a short while because age is catching up with my joints😔 it gives very effective relief for many hours. I use it once or twice a day, and only if I really need it. My doctor recently prescribed difene tablets. But I won't be using them. They can cause stomach issues and heart attack and stroke. I am surprised the tablets were prescribed for me, as I am already on meds for cholesterol, blood pressure, gout and stomach ulcer! I think I will be sticking with the voltarol gel while seeking out a more natural method to help my aching joints.

I have used VOLTARIN gel, since it first came out. I have not had any side effects. I use it at night so I'm not awakened by pain in my knees and lower back. I also use Celebrex, which dulls the pain. I had to go off while using a blood thinner and realized how much it helped the pain. I am never without pain completely. I have very severe arthritis with multiple joints affected. But between the VOLTARIN and Celebrex I can at least tolerate the pain and be more mobile.

Hi I began using this about 1 month ago. The stuff works and I got relief in 2 days!. I used it for 3 more days and felt great. The downfall for me is that because it's a Nsaid like Advil and other pain relievers..it caused my blood pressure rise from 130/70 to 170/90. So I use it maybe every other week. Still helps me tremendously. I get gel injections in both knees every 6 months. Stopped the cortizone because my knee got worse after 2.5 weeks.

Severe arthritus in Right Knee, began using Voltaren several months before my TKR surgery. It was one of the few medications that both my Doctor, the Surgeon and Physical Therapist all told me NOT to discontinue in prepraation for the surgery and during rehab. I'm into 14 weeks after the surgery, Voltaren and Ice are my main go to meds to control pain and swelling. I only need it once a day, generally at the end of day, prior to going to bed, along with my final tread mill & recumbent bicycle training, and ice pack use.

I'm in the UK and it is called voltarol on this side. It's the same. I was having constant fingers stiffness and pains as a result of arthritis. I've used a different anti arthritis cream made in africa called IBONIKI for over 4 months and though it temporarily soothed pains for couple of hours after each use, the pains intensified and I could feel my fingers clicking and it was a sheer
struggle for daily chores. Please note, I'm not suggesting or believe the aforementioned cream actually made my pains worse to be honest. Others claimed it worked for them yet I'm amongst those for whom it did not work.
Before heading to my doctor, I've decided to switch to VOLTAROL having seen ads on tv. Wow!! And I really mean wow a million times!! This thing is a Jehovah-send miracle because I was worried I could loss complete use of all my right hand fingers hence already my middle finger of this hand is deformed as a result of a past illness. There were intense sharp pains everyday but voltarol not only reduced my pains by 98 percent it also kicked out my fingers stiffness by 90 after few weeks of light use. I can now fold and even now regularly exercising my fingers to avoid a return of this problem. I couldn't even try exercising fingers due to searing pains prior.
I'm angry with myself. Why didn't I buy this thing ages ago because it's regularly advertised and this is a medication that I see over the counter all these years.
