    Ah so thats what that means! I kept hearing people say that on tiktok and I never understood what that mean. I mainly do a lot of vocal exercises because I find lessons terrifying (im really sensitive so one critique from a teacher would cause me to literally cry). So these videos are really helpful!

    I love watching your videos. They are delivered really well and very helpful. Just a suggestion though - you could benefit from a different microphone setup and/or some room treatment. There is always a lot of reverb/echo and the sound is very “tinny”. Won’t stop me from watching but it’s a little distracting. 😊 Keep putting out great content!

    This is why I don’t sing. I know I’m not good at it and u hate how my family asks me to Sing knowing damn well I can’t. If I was good at it I’d be singing left and eighth. Which is why I’m trying to learn how to sing from the diaphragm. I love music and I would like to sing my favorite songs but I don’t because I would butcher the songs 😭

    Great explanation, thank you. But do you still allow the upper half of your lungs to fill when you inhale ? When I use my diaphragm/stomach to inhale, there’s still some volume in my upper lungs I can fill if I concentrate to do that.

    @Singgeek yes I know how to fill the Diaphram with air but that doesn't tell me how to speak from it. I can feel the vocal vibrations from my throat or Chest when speaking but I don't know how to get the Vocal Vibrations to go down to the Diaphram, You are only telling us how to breathe we need to know how to get the Vocals Vibrations down to the Gut. Please explain how to do so.

    • @TheAshumms
      @TheAshumms 11 месяцев назад

      Although different people will feel sympathetic vibration in different places. It’s highly unlikely anyone will feel vibrations from the sound at vocal fold level down in the diaphragm. What this video is suggesting as an idea is really a way to re guide your thinking of airflow away from the shoulders and throat area to release unnecessary tension that can be held there. That’s why the instruction “sing from the stomach” or “sing from the diaphragm” isn’t always a helpful one and isn’t really accurate

    Thank you very much, Ronja, for your tips!
    And could you please clarify one thing for me? I find it a bit uncomfortable to inhale for singing both through my nose and my mouth, but it feels more natural for me to START inhaling with my nose only and then switch and FINISH inhaling with my mouth. Is it OK to inhale this way? And I have got a curvature of the nasal septum. Maybe it influences the way I inhale.

    • @singgeek
      @singgeek  Год назад +1

      Hi vy4088, Thanks for your question. In short, yes it is ok :) The goal of your inhalation is that you are able to take in air quickly so that you have support for your phrases and can sing them in time. I often see singers who struggle with this because they try to inhale through the nose only, and as you might already know, this takes too long between phrases when you sing. The reason it is recommended to breathe both through the nose and the mouth at the same time is so that the nose can filter some of the air which makes it a bit less harsh for your vocal folds. But, it is tricky, and a process to learn, and I dare say that many do what you do (first a bit through the nose and then the rest through the mouth), and then slowly the two passageways start to overlap over time as you develop as a singer. I am not an ENT but from my experience a deviated septum is only a hindrance if the curve obstructs the passageway which, from what I can read, in most cases it is not. If you are able to take in air in time it sounds like you are good on that front and I would turn my focus to how you use that air when you sing, which is the next step :) Hope it helps

I recommend you check out my videos on breathing technique to make sure you support your voice and then my video on jaw posture. It could be jaw tension causing the headache. Nice. ... But: Air does NOT set the vocal folds into motion! Since they're muscles, they are set into motion (like all the other muscles in our body) through electrical impulses from the brain, not air-stream (blows gently against his biceps, hoping it might start to work...). Air-stream however certainly plays a role in singing ... for aesthetics, not for vocal innervation. (GeekOut) 😁😉
