My mother always taught me this since I was a child and I always find myself taking big heavy deep breaths. People in school used to ask me what is wrong with you? What is going on? And my doctors would always test my lungs and oxygen level and even after smoking a cigar I would still be at 99%... Because I always exercised and I always practiced singing from the diaphragm unless I am pushing for those extremely low notes.

It was really crazy to myself how just a few of your videos, have gotten me to the point I know I can sing in front of a crowd. The crowd will also enjoy my singing. You are a true light worker Sir, thank you.

My old vocal coach always taught me to sing from the diaphragm just like you teach. My 6th grade choir teacher through high school taught the same thing. It made it so much easier to sing.

The passion, the knowledge, the demonstrations, the details, the experience and the students to prove what you preach are just a few of the things that make Mr. Ken Tamplin the very best vocal coach anywhere. And I can not forget to mention the life story that will literally make your eyes leak salty fluid. You are truly an inspiration Mr. Tamplin!
Thank you for all you do and God bless you.

Holy hell! breathe through the nose when you can! Warm moisture. Never even thought of that. Sometimes there's a ton of lyrics and I try to breathe as soon as I get a chance in between lyrics and I always do it with my mouth. Never even thought of the nose I am definitely going to work on that. I often dry out and what easier way to dry out than breathe through your mouth. Thank you for doing what you do!

My FAV tutorial videos are ones we RE-visit yrs later, where you further break down KEY points about a specific technique, often adding NEW R brained exps/illustrations, that only YOU can do, insurin an old ROAD DAWG, who's only 4 yrs in, will be able to GRASP the full concept.😎 Yeah, these are so helpful along the way cuz ALL techniques must be kept "in check" as new tunes, with new muscle memory are being created. For exp, I SEVERLY NEEDED the Head Voice video , vowel mod scale exercises ya made recently, where there was one UP/DOWN the scale exp that REALLY helped (the fast one at the end), that wasnt in the BEG videos of the past. Im sure MANY others getta good "reminder" of what we STILL NEED to focus on , if musckle memory starts slippin. Thanks Ken!

Jay Buchanan from Rival sons is one of the best newer young power rock vocals with so much soul. Guy gets so much power but heard he had some vocal problems, sad cause so young but he's got the best rock voice out there for the newer bands. Got to check them out if you haven't heard the band. Really amazing band.

Hi Ken, I've been watching and practicing a lot with ur videos and i wish i can have the money to buy ur course and meet you one day, so anyway, in my 18 years old of singing, I've always had a tendency to gently clench my stomach when singing, and I've always heard that it causes tension in the throat and all that stuff, so i just want to know if that's true or not, cause I sang my whole life like this, and never had trouble with it, but i waste a whole year of non singing because of preassure, now I lost some muscle memory and im working so hard with your videos to gain it back, much love from Paraguay!!!❤

Thanks for the video. I've been trying to learn _Trial By Fire_ by Journey, with Steve Perry singing (or Deen Castronovo). What I am finding is that the verses are sung relatively low and that it's hard to create power behind the low notes. It comes out sounding more wimpy than I'd like... I am trying to concentrate on my diaphragm, but, in a way, it's harder to sing than a high note where you can really get behind it.

Super important note for people who feel like they struggle to breathe properly.
If you feel like you can’t get the air to go in very easily, then you may want to get your thyroid checked. I just found out I have hypothyroidism and after a week of being on levothyroxine medication I’ve noticed my breathing has improved a LOT.
After doing some research I learned that difficulty breathing is indeed a symptom of an underactive thyroid. Mine is a severe case, so I was having to think of breathing ALL the time. Now I can just focus on how I breathe, and not how to get the air in.
These things should not be that difficult if you’re breathing isn’t being impaired by some underlying condition. If you have trouble doing this stuff then go see a doctor about it. I’d suggest doing research to see if there’s anything else that could be causing it, too. If it’s not the thyroid it could be something else. Hope this helps somebody.
Also, there are many symptoms that can show up at the same time when your thyroid isn’t working properly. Depends on how severe it is and also the person.

I think that many vocal coaches mainly talk about the kind of tension in your abdominal muscles where there is no movement at all. Tension in the stomach muscles and no movement is a great recipe for vocal damage. Tension in the stomach+inwards movement is probably the only safe way to belt. That's probably where the confusion comes in.
