  • This week we have a much anticipated tutorial for the Poochie Keen Dog Sweater by Beth Aidala, from Kraemer Yarns. Information on getting your yarn kit and pattern here on my website:
    verypink.com/2...
    The yarn kit (includes pattern) can be found here:
    patternsbykrae...
    The pattern on its own:
    patternsbykrae...
    The yarn used (if you want to build your own kit), Perfection Worsted:
    patternsbykrae...
    There is also a crochet version, you can see all of the options here:
    patternsbykrae...
    The ChiaoGoo interchangeable shorties set can be found here:
    amzn.to/3ahu1qG
    Videos I reference in the video:
    Getting Started with Magic Loop: • Knitting Help - Gettin...
    Simple Magic Loop: • Knitting Help - Simple...
    Getting Started with DPNs: • Knitting Help - Gettin...
    Here is the math I was unable to do in my head. :) The pattern gauge is about 4.5 stitches per inch. To increase 3 inches I would need to do about 12 increases, or 6 additional increase rounds. I would work these with a plain knitting (no increases) round between the increase rounds.

    So far I have made two of these sweaters for my little Daschund. He’s a tiny little guy so I make the small for him and just make the back part longer. Lol he loves these sweaters. I thought for sure he would tear it off and ruin it, but the fit is so perfect and comfy. Thank you for the instructions on here. Although I am an experienced knitter, the extra little tips you give in your videos make my knitting so much better. I have gone back to many of your videos when I am stuck on something and refer people to you all the time.

    I have learned so much from you. When I was a child I learned to knit from my Mother but she only knew one way to cast on and she always took what ever I was knitting and she would knit off. I learned to knit off from RUclips from videos of yours. I learned how to make 2 at a time from you and toes up from you. Because of your videos I now have a ball winder and a swift. I got them for Christmas last year. Now I think I can teach you something! It is easier to add stitches with your right hand with your pointer finger than with your left hand and thumb same idea just easier hold the yarn like you normally would wrap over and around Pointer finger and place on needle. Slide left needle in front yarn over and pull through. You have just knit the stitch make another and do it as many stitches as you need. When you come back around no messing around with loose or wobbly stitches.

    I just want to add: you may need to downsize your needles at the points when you’re knitting back and forth in rows. My tension is different and looser with flat stockinette, and after some experimentation, I found for me that going down two needle sizes evened things out.

    Thank you for the tutorial! I have a couple of questions: When working the leg holes how did you manage your needles? Did you put the stitches that you were not working on a stitch holder? Or can you just keep stitching on the circulars? Also, is there a way to add a hole for a dog harness being worn under the sweater? Or would you put the harness on over the sweater? I've noticed that some of the store-bought sweaters have a hole to attach the leash to a harness. Thanks again and it was fun seeing your dogs 🥰🐕‍🦺

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  3 года назад +1

      Your first question - the pattern gives instructions for putting the stitches you're not working on a stitch holder. I don't bother with that, they are fine hanging out on the circular needle. Regarding a hole for a harness/leash - I would put this sweater on under the harness. But if you choose to wear it over a harness, you can just place a buttonhole where the leash attachment will lie: ruclips.net/video/JNNqXQTIFfY/видео.html

    Every dog sweater i have knit or crocheted has ended with the neck stretching out like crazy after they wear the sweater for a bit.. does this have stretchy neck issues?

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  3 года назад +2

      I explain in the video that keeping the leg cuffs short enough so that they don't cover the dog's "elbows" will keep the whole sweater fitting better. Sweaters always stretch out around the neck when they get pulled down because the sweater covers the dog's elbows.

    • @softycadence3340
      @softycadence3340 3 года назад +1

      @@verypinkknits that’s exactly why I wouldn’t do the ribbing for armholes. If I crochet around the armholes to make it look tidy there’s no problem of unnecessary pulling with movement and then the neck won’t stretch. I love this pattern but I think it’s best to alter and make changes that accommodate your pet. Made the extra small size for my Sphinx cat cuz she tends to get cold. No neck or arm stretching issues yet.
      By the way I loved your dog cameos - made it super cute and special. Love this pattern too. Always used variegated yarns before but thanks to this I know how to mix in some other colors too. ^^ still can’t believe you live in Texas but don’t have an accent. Lived in Dallas and grew up sounding so hick - took years to get rid of some of that southern twang ^^

  • @PiaLiljebladh

    Not to be rude, but why bind-off the chest stitches? Wouldn’t it be easier to place those stitches on a scrap yarn, and then just put them back on the needle when it’s time to knit the ribbed edge?
    Then you don’t have to fight the tight bind-off stitches, and you dont get the ridge on the inside of the chest.

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  3 года назад

      Hmmm...that would work, you could do that. But you kind of need the structure of the BO there to add some stability to the piece, especially if you are knitting a larger size with more fabric.
