i love watching the way you knit. When I lived in Germany, everyone knit this way, but when I moved to the US, the way they knit here is to throw the yarn over, which is slower. I am going to try to knit the way you do; it looks much more efficient! Lovely, lovely sweater to be making. This is an excellent tutorial.

I am from the US - I have tried to purl the way you do in the video, but I just cannot figure out how to purl! I can knit your way and I really like it. I keep working on it😉 It IS faster than English knitting.

Hi, I leave in the US . But I knit like you ,we called it combined knitting. Thanks to a German Friend , she thought me combined knitting. I was tought when I was a child to knit English style But from them on i only knit combined and will never go back. Combined knitting is fastest and I love it . Love the way you knit the sweater, but i wanted to learned to knit the arme hole differently like from top button . Which now I learned
but when making designs have to calculate in the chart where to start can’t figure it out. I love to knit from buttom up seamless swearter. Maybe you can figured out?
That was astounding to watch her method of making a tubular edge for the sleeve! I’m totally using that method for my next sweater. That was brilliant!
Exactly! Maybe the first time it seems to be a bit complicating, but once you do, you will never get back to the ´classic´way :)

Fabulous! I loved watching you knit just like my grandmothers taught me. They were German and Swedish. Interesting that you also pick up the stitch from the back of the needle for both the knit and purl. This is also the way that I was taught, but when I went for knitting lessons as an adult, they said I was doing it wrong and taught me a different way. Some tutorials now show “Continental” knitting, but they usually have the stitches slanted so that you go through the front of the stitch. I eventually figured it out and realized that the old way was better for me, more comfortable, and faster. It just goes to show there is no exactly “right” way, and if anyone is confused, there is a very good book called “Knitting the Old Way” that explains it all very well. That is a new way of doing an invisible cast on, it is fairly easy, and yours looks GREAT. I think I will try this method.
Thank you Jill for your comment! I was taught both ways and it's very personal how do you prefer to knit. I do both ways and even mix them if I find it more comfortable. So you're absolutely right, there is no right way, all of them right enough. We call the old one - grandma method :) enjoy your knitting!

My Aunt knitted the “Continental” method, and she could knit twice as fast as anyone knitting the English method. I think I have gotten almost as fast. The fact is that Continental method might vary between knitting flat and knitting in the round. You just have to do what works.

I've started knitting this exact patern for my sister as an upcoming Christmas gift ( she loved it when I showed it to her!) and I have to say : I was really stressed because I've never knitted a patterned sweater before and have done only one work so far involving working on four needles at a time... And yet! I've already knitted the sleeves for the sweater, all thanks to your amazing video! It was very instructive, full of useful and easy to follow tips. I watched that cast on two times. I don’t understand how it is not too tight since the beginning still only has 20 stitches. It is indeed magic! I am ready to try this on my next sweater.
I would love to see a video of you doing the cast on part of the sleeve by itself! It looks so great but I wasn’t really following what to do when when you started picking up the stitches between the waste yarn. Love this sweater.
It looks to me like it's just a long tail cast on, but she's using her right hand to cast on instead of her left (which is more common).

I think most of knitters start with socks and hats, but later go for bigger projects :)
I love the way you cast on half the sts then pick up for the increase after 3 rows of purl. Another game changer for me of 64 yrs knitting. As for the cast on ... Mum taught me to knit them on, but that leaves holes, however the way you do it with your thumb is how I do it now as it makes a neater edge.
I tried this edge for the sleeve and its such a cool method! I thought i was going to fail but now it looks like its going to work tho! Thanks alott

I learned in Germany so watching your style was comfortable and warming like a good sweater and a cup of tea. watching other videos and knitting tutorials, I was amazed at their style but it made me think there was something wrong with my knitting. Thank you so much for this video. I followed along and despite many mistakes, I finished! I couldn't afford the fancy yarns, so I used a deep crimson, charcoal and a thin grey and beige yarn (doubled up)I had in my supply to create the contrast you demonstrated. many thanks!! 💕💕💕

Just in case you've never tried this technique, for small diameter circle, I love using two pairs of circular needles (with shorter cables, not really short but not super long so they don't dangle to much while you're working with the second pair on the other side of the sleeve) and you knit with one pair, then turn around and knit with the other pair...etc... round and round. since I tend to have tendinitis if I knit a lot, it has been great that way as it's more fluid in the posture than with 4 or 5 double pointed needles. (I used to always use the double pointed ones, but now I just love this method ^^)

Will be trying out this casting method this weekend. Will be swatching with purling the back loops as this is new for me too. Noticed that after pick up of new stitches you knit from the back loops as well. Ver well done video! Thanks a lot 😁
Thank you Eva for your comment! When I knit loops, I mainly check that they are not twisted and don´t really pay much attention whether it is back or front loop :)

Hi your written pattern and your video pattern are not the same I should be following the witten or the video ? so confusing and you dont mention it in the video that thier is a difference with both ? e.g increase 2 sts every 10 rounds in the video and on written pattern every 8 rounds Sleeves cast on 36 sts for Large size on video cast 42 ?? they are all different you numbers. None the less your video and explaination are great ty love the pattern. But why the difference in the written and video Pattern ???

I'm using this pattern to practice continental knitting and try out some of these techniques - never seen this cuff start done this way before, and eager to try the neck bind off as well - and I tried out unpicking the waste yarn vs cutting and it works great. So if you wanna be able to use your waste yarn again, you can just unpick the cast on stitches after you to the pick-up increases round. :)
I do it sometimes this way too if yarn is quite thick, otherwise I’m too lazy to unpick it 😅

I would love another lopapeysa sweater tutorial in the same style as your balaclava tutorial--with measurements and a simple "guide" for how to calculate the number of stitches for every part! I made a balaclava so easily from your tutorial, but I can't do the same with this lopapeysa tutorial, not exactly.
Hi Alan! It is a bit more complicating because you have to consider the number of chart stitches and match it to the sleeves and yoke. The height of the yoke matters too as if you choose too thin yarn for the pattern made for thick yarn, you can end up having too short yoke. Therefore sweaters with colorwork mainly have one particular gauge.

I have had three attempts at this method of casting on them cutting the thread and I find it really difficult. Got better with every attempt though.
