    --------------- Quick video showing you how to replace the secondary air pump on your 1997-2004 Chevy corvette. This is a very common problem with these cars. If you have a check engine light on and the code reads insufficient flow then you should check to see if your air pump is working.

    Thanks for making this video. It is one thing to read directions that say to inspect replace secondary air pump, it is far better to see it done!

    Mine simply stopped working one day. After ECS did the blower, it was noisy! Especially when cold. Then the noise went away. Again, one day, it simply stopped working. Thanks for a great video.

    Just curious, how long did that Dorman pump last? I never had much luck with their electrical replacement parts. Nice job and thanks for this post!

      AFAIK, it’s still functioning. I buy cars at dealer auctions and this was one of them. Had to replace the pump to remove the check engine light. Car was sold locally and I haven’t heard anything about the pump. This was 3 years ago.

    Does the check engine light on your dash go off by itself or do you have to reset it somehow?

    Great video. My question is this. Considering it’s an “air” pump, when removing the old one should water come out of it? Not engine coolant but water. As if maybe I drove through a big puddle, not likely since I rarely drive the car or maybe condensation from sitting. I live in NC and it’s very humid. Or maybe cleaning the engine with water hose. That I’m guilty of.

    • @HelpingHandAutoRepair
      @HelpingHandAutoRepair  3 года назад

      There shouldn’t be water in it, however considering it’s proximity to the ground and only small plastics covering it, it is very possible to get water in via rain or small puddles or the car wash, etc…
      This is especially true if the small plastics are broken.

      you can take the 3 screws out on inner wheel well but the reason why he stopped the video there is because he broke his inner lining out in the video, there's no way to take that lining out without breaking it, i took the 3 screws out and the ones that he didn't have that someone already removed and was easy access

    My pump is very weak on my 2001. Wouldn't it be easier to remove the headlight? I just rebuilt both headlight motors and replaced the DRL sockets... I can remove the headlight in 10 mins. Your thoughts? Great video!!!

    • @HelpingHandAutoRepair

      Eric Schnidrig I’m sure you could honestly. But I don’t like touching the pop up lights if I don’t have to. Removing plastic shield underneath is hardly invasive.

    what’s a good website or place to buy a secondary air pump my check engine light came on my c5 just recently & it’s a p0410 do you have any sites you’d recommend?

      @HelpingHandAutoRepair can't a pump anywhere. A previous comment you made said pretty much any pump will work. Can you elaborate that? Like which one?

    • @HelpingHandAutoRepair
      @HelpingHandAutoRepair  11 месяцев назад

      @chieftallboy which comment was that? The pump should be for this car definitely. I mean I suppose you could wire up any air pump but they all flow different amounts of air.

    will the dorman 306-010 also fit a 97 corvette? the parts sites I check say no. I know the 97 has a lot of one year parts, but wondering if the one references will still work?

    • @HelpingHandAutoRepair
      @HelpingHandAutoRepair  3 года назад

      It says that part number is only for 2000-2004 base model corvette. And the 2001-2004 Z06. So no that wouldn’t work.

    I have a 98 and unfortunately have a different pump with three prongs and some kind of internal solenoid. Just took mine out to tear it apart as I can’t find a new one.

    • @HelpingHandAutoRepair
      @HelpingHandAutoRepair  5 лет назад

      jose saucedo It should Mount exactly the same as this pump correct? If so you should be able to run this pump utilizing the same wiring harness and hoses?

    • @tenpermental
      @tenpermental 5 лет назад +1

      Well it’s three prongs, not sure the purpose of the solenoid but I’m going to jump the solenoid and fan wires so they both switch on when it’s given power, I checked the hose near the bypass valve that’s easily accesible and I’m not getting air, leading me to believe since I hear the fan kicking on, that the solenoid is not. I have a gremlin, and I hope this works. Wish me luck! Sorry, to answer your question it’s three prongs, I see yours has two... and the hoses are directed differently, also I don’t have a vacuum valve like you. On mine there’s no purge valve I believe it’s called, on the passenger fender...

    • @tenpermental
      @tenpermental 5 лет назад

      Yo it worked, check engine light gone. I don’t know if it’s a common problem for the 98 vettes but they have three wires, one for the fan (red), ground (Black), and solenoid (forgot the color). I jumped red and solenoid to touch each other and it solved my problem. I would try taking out the pump and giving both 12 volts individually and then together to make sure they work individually and then together to kick out the air. Again not sure if it’s a common problem so do at your own risk.

    • @HelpingHandAutoRepair
      @HelpingHandAutoRepair  5 лет назад

      jose saucedo So I assume you fan must run all the time now?

    • @tenpermental
      @tenpermental 5 лет назад +1

      No it only kicks on when 12 volts is given to the fan, this is my situation might not be everyone’s. But I figured I might not be getting air because the solenoid wasn’t getting power... sure enough. I might have a short or something but not it throws air when it’s supposed to and lights off. Again, might not be everyone’s issue, but it seems to have solved it for me... I’ll keep driving it and see what happens. But a week in and I’m golden.

      Sorry no it won’t. The mounting tabs are probably different. Shows that is for various Ford vehicles and a chevy S10 as well.

    This video is good however i'm doing my pump now, anyone watching this should no that you can take out the 3 bolts on inner wheelwell and the 3 or 4 screws underneath where his was missing, my guess someone already hacked and broke what was under this car, you don't need to take the wheel well out to access this you will break everything doing it!! you can get your hands up in there and move the pump, also there were no bolts holding the pump on with my c5, just the rubber gromets from the factory which makes me believe his pump has already been removed, just push the pump brackets off the rubber gromets and disconnect hoses and lead wire and your done

    will this solve code P0410 on my 2000 c5 corvette ?

    • @HelpingHandAutoRepair
      @HelpingHandAutoRepair  3 года назад

      It is a place to start as that is a generic code meaning there is a problem within the secondary air system. If you want to check the pump for operation, you can cold start the car then put your head down there and listen for the pump to see if it’s running.
      If it’s running then there is no need to replace it. I would replace the check valves that the pump flows into.

      @@HelpingHandAutoRepair Does the check valve make noise when it goes bad? I have a flapping air sound (kinda like a leak) only on acceleration. Got the same code.
      Thanks for making this vid btw

    • @HelpingHandAutoRepair
      @HelpingHandAutoRepair  3 года назад

      If the diaphragm completely tears then I could see how that sound could develop yes. There are two that you need to check. One that is very clear on the driver side of the motor in plain sight. And the other is a PITA to get to under the windsheild cowling behind the motor.

      @@HelpingHandAutoRepair Jeebus. Thanks dude. This vid was helpful. I almost want to delete the system but then that would probably be a code all the time.

    • @HelpingHandAutoRepair

      If you live where smog isn’t needed, you can delete it. However, you need to buy block off plates for the headers or else you will need to get lean codes.
