I would not have fear for our horse-friend Magcargo, for surely Mudsdale has instructed him on the importance of EVmaxxing
    252 SpA Horsea Bubble Beam vs. 224 HP / 220 SpD Magcargo: 268-316 (84.5 - 99.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Even without any SpAtk investment, an Earth Power would one-shot. However, to avoid any unexpected Horseplay, Magcargo should activate his Shell Smash after being hit to unleash his Horse forme and be able to guarantee a OHKO on Horsea the next turn. All he would require is a Speed EV of 56 a speed boosting nature.
Unfortunately, there is no way to defeat Horsea using the flagship move High Horsepower unless Magcargo was willing to dirty his hooves by acquiring the illicit Groundium Z Crystal. For the sake of the Horse Council, I pray that he has not resorted to this knavery.

I actually agree, honestly. Fairy's seen as broken because it's a prime counter to three other incredible Types, and its existence validates a bunch of Poison-Types that otherwise would have rotted in NU.
Ghost on the other hand is a LUDICROUS offensive Type, only balanced by Shadow Ball's low BP.

About the use of Scald on Tapu Fini in Gen VII that you mention at 28:54, another scenario where it becomes a much better click is when you come back in right as the misty terrain is about to fade (more common when there's a Fini on the opponent's team as well). In that sense, Scald kind of feels like it creates a win-win situation, because you are either safe from status yourself or threaten to spread it. There's also Gen VIII, where defog removes terrain effects, and opposing defoggers suddenly have to fear the burn. Granted, that barely comes up, because the common defoggers all happen to fly anyway (unless they switch out to a grounded physical threat afterwards). But I always thought this was an interesting little interaction, where they might become less inclined to remove hazards in fear of the status. Of course, people probably wouldn't run it based on these fringe cases alone.

I feel like there’s a Pokémon that appreciated the addition of Fairy-Types so much that even Game Freak effectively referenced this in The Indigo Disk. Players may recall Lacey having an Exacdrill on her Fairy-Type team, which at first glance only looks like a reference to who her father is. But credit where credit is due for Game Freak making us aware of this type synergy- this thing has winning matchups not only against most Fairy-Types, but also Poison, Steel, and is even a Steel-Type itself that can lure out Fire-Types with its own Ground STAB. The only other Pokémon who even comes close is Heatran, who does quad-resist Fairy and has good matchups into Fire (thanks to Flash Fire), Poison, and Steel, but is also noticeably slower and doesn’t have some of the extra utility Excadrill does, such as Rapid Spin, Sand Rush, and Swords Dance.

It's very interesting in Gen 1, what with so many of the types Fairy interacts with not being around or being near non-existent. Only one Dragon family (and only Dragon Rage to be inmune to), no Steel or Dark, Poison and Fighting practically not being real types... Goes to show how much the game has changed.

@@masterplusmargarita It's fascinating to consider. No real need to counter dragon or fighting, with how powerful Blizzard and Psychic were. Fairies at least don't worry about poison, since none of the poisons could handle psychics. Normal and Psychic would still dominate, but fairy can hit the stride in gen two when dark comes around and none of the steels coped well with fire coverage.
Depends if they got good moves too. If Moonblast was there from the start, they'd be fine when gen two rolled up and darks and Kingdra needed a hit, but if they only had the likes of Draining Kiss or Fairy Wind, be a bit of struggle XD

in gen 7 due to order change being on the same turn as mega evolving and the slight nerf to sucker punch and extra counters made it more challenging for mega mawile but having good defenses intimidate and the highest attack in the game by far (more even than a choice band deoxys-attack) did still make mega-mawile possibly a bit too much especially with having an amazing move set with coverage for every single one of your weaknesses and swords dance and alright utility for doubles via a powerful rock slide. though the slow speed is a bit weakness for sure.

Normal bc it cant be hit super effectively but can hit through movepool everything else supereffectively and steel because it resists everything and must therefore be supereffective on everything. Fighting types wouldnt have enough resistances to be worth it but the moves would be on every single normal type pokemon.

With team support and its good stats, it was more like a gen 3 top tier in its versatility and EV tweaking, it could literally do whatever it wanted in a team slot and get away with it, while all the other mons struggled to manage their own niches in comparison.
I personally think its peak modern competitive design, because that versatility makes for a very interesting pokemon that can cover many archetypes and roles with the right stat spread and items. If more mons were designed like Mag, I think the meta would benefit from it.

I do think Steel/Fairy is still probably the best type combination although Steel/Ghost is pretty ridiculous too.
Edit: Also, I don't think Magearna being banned in Gen 8 was just because the power level decreased (although that was a factor as well). Magearna gained Stored Power and I believe Draining Kiss as well. Its double boosting set with those 2 moves basically made it the perfect sweeper.

Although I really appreciate the offensive buffs to (particularly) poison and steel, GF's logic to balance the type chart just wasn't sound. They really needed to introduce a couple new types (round it to 20 we'll say) to craft a better dynamic, because the way they went about it by giving a single new type resistance (or immunity) to the best attacking types and weakness to the worst was just a bad/short sighted band-aid fix to the situation. I think at least the fact Fairy is neutral to itself was a good decision though, better dynamic than dragons flailing their meteors at each other or steels not being able to dent each other with their iron heads.
I do agree with you that a type being busted doesn't necessarily mean it can't be balanced around other factors like BST/abilities/moves, and honestly with how insane power creep has gotten I appreciate that mentality more than ever, it's just a shame that for the most part they've gone in the complete opposite direction with Mons like Tapus, Zacian, Xerneas, etc.

Only those with a high enough power(of the horse variety) were able to join and control things from behind the scenes. I think it would behoove everyone to reign things in and take a look at the larger picture. They shouldn’t be fighting each other, they should be fighting so seahorses and snailhorses and even ryhorses can get along and control the world from the shadows.

fairy is the best type in competitive Pokémon there are some other types you could make a case for but fairy has been
incredibly consistent and Powerful ever since its introduction in Generation 6 in gen 9 when the new talize mechanic
was introduced allowing Pokémon to transform into any type they want we really saw just how good and desirable
fairy typing is the number one type that most Pokémon will choose to transform into is fairy so many Pokémon
desperately wish they were fairy types fairy was introduced later into the franchise as a response to how powerful
dragon types were becoming this new type had a complete immunity to dragon type attacks which was an absolute
GameChanger the previously spammable dragon type was now a liability to lock into Choice band outrage or Choice spec
draer meteor are no longer completely safe to click Dragon immunity is fantastic since dragon types tend to be
really strong and rise to the top of competitive while fa only has three resistances these are three fantastic
ones to dark fighting and Bug dark has been perhaps the most common offensive type since Gen 6 following the buff to
knockoff and the Nerf to Steel types who no longer resisted dark anymore so dark resistance comes in handy all the time
as does fighting resistance a very common offensive stab and coverage type bug resistance is nice too with the
prominence of U-turn in competitive singles as a pivoting move and the occasional bug type threats seen from
time to time faery has only two weaknesses to steel and poison which are extremely manageable and easily covered
by teammates and these two types aren't particularly common offensive the main reason these two types rose up so much
in usage is because they hit fairy types with only two very easy to cover weaknesses fairy is a fantastic neutral
defensive type fairy is also quite good offensively dealing super effective damage to dark fighting and dragon types
this combination of great defensive and offensive advantages is hard to beat and even a simple mono fairy typing tends to
be really strong and consistent let's explore all the examples of relevant fairy types in competitive singles ever
since its introduction in Gen 6 but first an update reports have indicated that horsey has used the move bubble
beam as a first strike against Mako in their 1v1 battle at the Trident it is
not known what happened next urgently subscribe to the channel so that we may uncover the Earth shattering results of
the most important battle in our Collective lifetimes thank you in generation six the fairy type was born
and they made an interesting choice to retroactively make certain Pokémon fairy types there were different types
previously the most notable of which was definitely clefable who was converted from a normal type to a fairy type and
people would quickly discover that this was a massive buff normal typing has its problem doesn't have any resistances
weak to fighting fairy on the other hand has that wonderful Dragon immunity those incredible resistances to dark and
fighting which come up all the time generally good neutral defensive typing and even fairy stab coming in handy all
the time too Moon blast is an all new fairy type special attack attack introduced in Gen 6 and this is just a
really solid attack 95 power 100 accuracy and a really good secondary effect 30% chance to lower Special
Attack by One this saves your life much more than you would expect what's interesting about kable is that its
stats are not very good but you don't need stats to be good all the time with such a great mono fairy typing the
ability Magic Guard which is an outstanding ability granting a complete immunity to all indirect damage status
hazards Le seed whatever you can imagine kable side steps all of that and just an
truly wonderful move pull offensive options defensive options utility options you have immediate healing in
soft boiled or wish if you prefer to provide your team with healing you have
Stealth Rock I don't know why but you do you can make the best hazard in the game with this thing you have Thunder Wave
for a fantastic status ailment to apply you have knockoff which now doubles as
dark coverage not that you have a very high attack stat mostly used here for item removal which is really strong of
course and you have Calm Mind you can be a win condition on cable you also have every coverage move you could ever
desire in your heart's dreams with Thunderbolt Ice Beam stab a moon boss
usually does the trick but you know against the steel types that resist fairy you have flamethrower because of
course you do cabable gets it all one of the most solid Pokémon of all time has remained OU generation to generation and
in gen 9 is still really solid despite losing some of these options it just has so much going for it doesn't it the
perfect example of the idea that stats are not always everything cable is blessed in every other regard besides
stats and that all adds up to a truly fantastic competitive Pokémon mega Deany
on the other hand does have some stats I mean look at this 160 attack and special
attack as well as 110 speed and really really good defenses too this is a stats
machine and blessed with fairy typing I will say that rock typing is not the world's best secondary type for Deany
but this is more of an offensive Pokémon anyway and you really appreciate the rock stab on diamond storm fairy gives
you some defensive entry points with its valuable resistances and immunities offensive Pokémon always appreciate
fairy typing for that reason allows them to hit the field in more situations stab Moon blast goes crazy and you also upon
mega evolving gain magic bounce which is a really really excellent ability bouncing back various advantageous
effects to the enemy most notably hazards so the enemy is scared to ever create hazards when you have a mega DNC
on your field but it also bounces back status ailments leech seed taunt Roar
most status moves really just get bounced back to the enemy this is kind of a ridiculous
Pokemon this guy is very blessed with truly outstanding stats ability good
enough typing the typing fit fits the Pokémon well and really good move pull too with options like Earth power for
coverage really great stab options for its two types here and we have calm mind
if you want protect is common because it allows you the free turn required to Mega Evolve safely which is often
necessary but uh you have other options like Calm Mind to boost yourself up randomly has heal Bell for utility I
don't know if that's something you would see too often and a lot of coverage has Stealth Rock as well you create hazards
with it An Extremely Blessed Pokémon and one of the best Pokémon in Gen 6 and 7u
aeril is yet another retroactive fairy they granted this guy a secondary fairy typing when it was previously just a
mono water type and water is an outstanding type on its own but water fairy is a monstrous combination fairy
is pretty much a net gain overall you get some weaknesses to poison your neutral to steal though so that's okay
but a poison weakness is nothing compared to the advantages you gain dark resistance fighting resistance Dragon
immunity allow you so many more entry points which is what aeril wants it is a
breaker with huge power allowing it to achieve absurd attack stat despite having low base attack doubling your
attack including EVS just has multiplicative value turning aeral into
an extremely powerful wall breaker with a choice band equipped stab fairy really
comes in handy great offensive type too it's crazy how good fairy is both offensively and defensively truly.
