- Fancied trying Potato Cakes in the Airfryer today and I have to say I am stoked at how tasty they were. I froze 8 (Jimmy tried one after school and liked it which was great) so 8 for the freezer for future weekend breakfasts with bells on. Recipe/method below.
I made an airfryer poached egg to go with the taste test potato cake, here is a link to the poached egg vlog

Breaded Potato Cakes (makes 10)
560g Mashed Potato
5 Spring Onions (chopped)
Chives Free (from the garden)
1 egg
Salt & Pepper to taste
150g Flour (plain & seasoned)
Breadcrumbs (optional)
(2 slices cheap white bread or shop bought breadcrumbs)
Method:
Pop the cold mashed potatoes into a large bowl, add the spring onions, egg, chives (bacon cut up into really small pieces
would be a good option) and the flour. Mix. Have the breadcrumbs ready in a bowl/container (breadcrumbs optional) If still quite sticky add a little more flour.
Using your hands, add a small amount of flour to fingers, it helps when forming a small ball, gently flatten and pop into the breadcrumbs bowl, gently move about until covered then place on a large plate.
Spray crisper plates with a little oil. Carefully pop 4 into each drawer.
Press Match. Airfry 200c/392f for 10 mins, gently flip and cook a further 5 mins (times may vary depending on size, keep checking and adjust accordingly)
Either enjoy with a simple poached egg, or a cooked breakfast. Can be frozen for another day. Хобби

Hi Kerry, I've recently discovered your channel & I find it amazing & very helpful. I'm a 75 year old lady, & have just started to use an air fryer I love watching you prepare you food & taste test. You have given me the confidence to start to use it more & not be frightened of things going wrong. You are very informative helpful & describe each thing you do perfectly. If I was to be able to choose my nextdoor neighbour I would choose you first time. You're amazing so down to earth, thankyou so so much for what you do please don't ever stop as your are encouraging me to get stuck in there. Oh Ive recently ordered so.e of the little pie dishes you cooked your steak pies in am definitely going to do those & much more. Lots of love & good wishes for your continued success I will be watching thats for sure.
Sarah Wigan xx❤
Oh that's so lovely Sarah, thank you so much😀💕💕so sorry my reply is late! Catching up. Hope you have a lovely Christmas 🎅💕💕
Hi Kerry, Roz here. Enjoy watching your videos. I also have the Broons cook book. I am English and married to a Scotsman living in Aberdeenshire, I also don’t always understand the recipes 😂 I went and bought a shower cap for proving the bread. 👍
I just watched Rick English chap living in Thailand. He said you could use the bigger ones as a pizza base.
My mum made them half your thickness and when cooked we just had them with a little butter that would melt on them as you were eating them. We had bread & butter to make it a larger meal for a family of 5. 🎉Delicious.😢
Made these several times now, I've found that if you whisk the egg on its own and add that gradually you don't need to keep having to thicken it with more flour xxx
Aah top tip thank you George 😀👍👍
Nice five stars Could see you was enjoying that .Great stuff from me and again five stars.
I've come across your and watched about two videos before. I thought I had subscribed and liked which I have done now on this video and I will be sharing your videos with. You're doing a really video you get a 💯👍. Smashing keep up the good work thank you
Thank you v much for subbing Savi, really kind to share as well, it's much appreciated 😀👍💕💕
Hi Kerry, love your "Sod it, give it a go" attitude... ME to a tee !!!... Your total amateur approach is SO refreshing. I've copied loads of your recipes THANKS!!! LUV IT!!!!
Awww thank you George😀💕that's really lovely. I love the total amateur approach description, it's so true lol😄
Hi Kerry
Letting you know I found a beautiful basil plant. Love your videos. Have had airfryer for years and do so much with it but never potato cakes. Will certainly be doing them soon.
I love bowls and the blue one is beautiful. I have a tip for you and others who buy 😮spring onions. Put them in a glass with just a bit of water roots down and they will keep for a couple weeks and the tops will continue to grow. When needed just cut the tops off if you only want the green and they will grow again. I also use the whites as well. Thank you.
Oh that's fab thank you Patsy💕 bought some spring onions yesterday! Off to the fridge to get them out and pop in a glass of water👌💕top tip, will be sowing some seeds at the allotment soon
Just enough water to cover the roots. I do this for mine and able to keep them a good while until needed.
Totally agree with you about stretching the limits. I have made stuff that I wouldnt normally make. Enjoying the Ninja journey. Thank you again kerry
It's great, love the ninja/airfryers for that Beth. Its made even more special having YT fam along for the ride as well💕💕
Sadly I dont have a Ninja but a Lakeland Dual Air Fryer, however I agree, they are stretching me with what I cook in there and I'm loving it - I will get a Ninja one day and am loving the videos
Going to make these. I usually make breadcrumbs by 'cooking' a sprayed slice or cubed bread in the microwave for a min or two. Lovely and crunchy and can be broken by putting into a placky bag and bashing with a rolling pin. I suppose putting the mixture in the fridge for a bit helps firm it up before shaping too. Thanks Kerry another great vid.
Love your breadcrumb method Emily👍💕 top tip too putting in fridge to firm up 👌💕💕
I am enjoying your RUclips. I am in the USA so have to convert some things but I like your comfort foods. I recently received an airfrier and have enjoyed making some things but have wanted to expand my uses and you give nice easy recipes that don't require a lot of strange ingredients.
Bubbles and Squeak must put on my new reading Glasses Xxx
Will try this for lunch, thanks for sharing.
Hi Kerry, I have turned these into lndian potato cakes with the addition of cumin, ground and fresh coriander, mint, chilli powder or flakes, spring onions, garlic, turmeric. Don't add milk to the spuds, makes them too wet. A little rice flour added will also make them more crispy. Had my tomato sauce bottle and knife and fork ready there , waiting.🥰👍
Oh that's sounds tasty Trish I need to try yours, plus love the tip re omitting the milk and adding rice flour thank you 💕💕
Potato cakes look so yummy and crispy I’ve gotta make these thanks for sharing 💕
Just joined you as I have just bought an air fryer and I like your easy approach. 😊
That's lovely, welcome to Airfryer cooking!👋😀💕
They look great. We used to be able to get frozen bubble and squeak patties but can’t get them anymore so I tried making it myself in the frying pan (way before I had my air fryers) but they just fell apart, totally didn’t think about trying them again in the air fryer. I will definitely be giving this a go and having some to freeze for cooked breakfasts. 😋❤
We LOVE homemade Potato cakes Kerry.
Another brilliant recipe to try in the Ninja xx
Thanks so much Janis!💕💕cannot wait for the weekend, so I can cook the frozen ones for our Saturday breakie
Excellent as always 😊
Aw thank you Lorraine 😃💕💕
I’ve just found your channel and love your recipes and the way you chat
Aww thank you Janet💕💕
Looking yummy.
I have a spray but, recently I've started using a silicone brush dipped in oil to brush the oil onto the rack. I find it covers more evenly.
I'm going to try those cakes with some corned beef mixed in too.
That's a top tip with applying oil onto the surface (rather than spraying) thank you 👍👍
Mmm gorgeous can't wait to try them x
Thank you Joan!💕💕
I must try this one thank you, it had my taste buds going
They look superb and something I’m definitely going to try. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you Ian👍💕

My late Aunt used to make this every Sunday after lunch, was lovely. Only difference was she used a flat baking tray and cut it into squares after it was cooked. She sprinkled sugar on top afterwards
Kerry, really enjoying your video's please keep them coming. Thanks for sharing.
Oh that's lovely thank you Sheila 💕💕

Kerry, another great idea. I'm definitely making btch for my freezer. Living long means these will make quick and easy meals. I love it hen you forget to do things like soraying the oil as we all do the same its so refreshing you don't edit these bits out. Loving your channel, thanks
Aww thanks Debs, it did tickle me when rewatching while editing, how I told myself off when I forgot to spray🤦♀️😄
Looks delicious 😊

So glad I came across this , I’ve been trying to recreate my grannies tattie scones for years and they are tragic and never work . So this is a revelation . Liked/subscribed as you clearly have a talent here . Respect 👍🏴
Aw thank you v much Jay💕my gran made the best mince n tatties😋😋oh and I loved a scotch pie with baked beans as a kid - foodi memories lol
@@budgetcookinguk maybe try home made Ham, Brocolli and Cauliflower cheese ? Cheap , easy to make and super tasty . Ideally with a home made breadcrumb topping , 40 mins in oven then bosh ! Good to go . Love your style and your easy going vibe and will continue watching . Good luck 👍🏴
Mm they look tasty . Be. NIce with your weekend breakfast I think.
i make these in the air fryer, i put smoke mackrel in, also i tried them with bacon and also smoked ham with panko bread crumbs. bootiful
Oh nice Harry, I like your additions😋😋
Brilliant video. They looked so tasty love Barbara
Thank you Barbara, they were lovely. The rest are in the freezer waiting for Saturday breakie 👌💕
These look really nice ☺🥰
Thank you😃👍💕 checked your channel out - lovely cooking - I've subscribed! 👌💕
@@budgetcookinguk 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Kerry that looks delicious with a poached egg, must try that. Better than supermarket hash browns and a good idea to freeze a few. Thank you for the idea Eileen x
Potato cakes bear little resemblance to hash browns.
@@janetpendlebury6808 think the similarities are that they're both potato products Janet😃👍
Thank you Eileen!💕💕
looks yummy as so does the potato cake .lol cheers
Thank you Dave!👍👍
I know what I’m making with my leftover mash. Looks delicious 🤤
Thank you Barb!💕💕💕
My does exactly what you did sometimes mixed with cheese and finely chopped bacon and onion 🌰 the only difference she freezes 🥶 them without cooking them first and they always turn out brilliant as always absolutely brilliant and looking forward to the next one 👍 soon be 5000 subscribers 👍.
That's such a good idea to freeze before cooking Jim👌💕your wife is the bees knees. Next time I might cook half the time because mine were really squishy, to firm up a bit before sticking in freezer👌💕I cooked a frozen one last night as Al wanted to try one after the watching the vlog😄 10mins on airfry no flipping, hot throughout, it looked well cooked thou, would have liked it lighter in colour (it tasted great Al said and he'd say if it didnt lol) so not cooking fully (or at all) before putting in freezer a top tip😘👌💕
OhKerry you are so funny and normal! Love your approach to real cooking. Thank you for this particular recipe - bit of cheese/garlic ? It looks delicious ☘️🇬🇧🥰🥰🥰💐
Thank you so much Molly, that's lovely of you to say so🥰💕definitely will add cheese😋😋
Hi Kerry. I really love your channel. I did feel sorry for drawer two as max crisp cooks at 240 and drawer two at 200 (air fryer). Nonetheless looks awesome and thank you once again for sharing your amazing home cooking with us. ❤️ xx.
Thank you Shazza💕 was trying to see which method was best, max crisp or airfry, next time will cook just with airfry setting👍👍
These look delicious! If things are soft it helps to pop them into the freezer for half an hour before breadcrumbing. Bacon or cheese sounds great as additions.
Thanks Jake👍👍top tip as well, will do that next time
Hi Kerry, That looked delicious with the poached egg dripping that lovely yolk. I have made similar potato cakes myself, I put leftover veggies in mine, just a way of using everything up. My family loves them.
Aww thank you Toni 💕I made some more on Friday with leftover mash, so quick and easy, my family love them too👍
@@budgetcookinguk I only stumbled across you today, have enjoyed back videos but, so glad I caught up with you. You're down to earth and very real, great qualities. ❤x
@@toniswift6058 thank you Toni, honestly that's lovely of you to say so, it's much appreciated 💕💕
These look scrummy. Your suggestion of bacon bits and cheese. Ohhh yum. I'm going to do extra mash on Sunday and make some of these. Still not managed to master poached eggs though. Might revert to my microwave poacher doofrey. Thanks for yet another great video Kerry x
Aww thank you v much Jane💕love the "doofrey" 😄
I had some corn beef and potato left over so I made potato cakes and put them in the freezer before cooking
Who nice think I would add grated cheese carnt wait to try Kerry x
Think I will too next time Janet👍😋💕💕
You are so right, crisp little bacon bits, or a little cheese, a few shreds of cabbage, or mix in a bit of leftover sausage, or a few shreds from the joint! All good filling food.
Thank you Jake😃👍💕
Very good Kerry, you'll be able to make fishcakes now, hope you all like fish, thanks for that from me in Scotland .
We do, I need to try making fish cakes 😋 great idea thank you Grace🏴💕I'm half scottish, family live in ayrshire and glasgow💕💕
It looks lovely that would be a lovely dinner for me l don't like big heavy meals.. .thank you.
Thank you Marguerita 👍💕
Absolutely delicious. My mouth was watering. Now all I have to do is reduce the quantities to see if I can make a latke for just the one person here -- ME! Thanks. PS, I love the idea of nesting a poached egg on top.
Thank you v much John👍💕 the poached egg on top was flippin lovely
Maybe it was the egg you added that made it sticky. Thanks for the video. Interested in the air fryer cooking of them.
They looked lovely I made some with cheese and spring onions but never put an egg and flour in the mixer but after shaping them I then dipped them in egg and bread crumbs. I found when frying them (never had an air fryer then) they seemed to break up but they were delicious. Your poached egg looked lovely.
That’s what’s always happened to my attempts to make old fashioned tattie scones in a frying pan , they just break up , so I was delighted to see this and will be trying it at lunch time tomorrow 👍🏴
Thank you Dorinda💕💕hope the pickyup thing has arrived!🤞 cor your fried ones sounded lovely broken up or not😋
@@jaymacgee_A_Bawbag_Blethering good luck Jay!👋😃🏴💕
Hi its better to chill in the fridge untill firm handles easier yes cheese or seasoning in the bread crumbs adds taste Angie
Need to make some more soon - will do that Angela😀👍
Hi Kerry. If you’re open to suggestions, would you do a rice pudding in the Ninja. I think it would make a popular video. Keep up the good work. Love your vids
Hi Mark, love foodi suggestions so yes will definitely give it a go. Unfortunately for me I have an old rice pudding phobia (for want of a better word not really a phobia lol) school dinner rice pudding I hated it but we had to eat it, ugh it was horrible so I haven't ever eaten rice pudding since I was at primary school😄☺️
These would be nice with a bit of smoked mackerel, which is quite cheap for 1 whole fish, maybe some air fried bacon.
Looks scrummy that egg
Thank you👍👍love a poached egg😋
They look tasty.... Imagine it with bacon sausage n beans.....yummy😋
Oh yes, Saturday breakfast Joe - not long now😄😋👌
Lovely way of using your left over mash up you could freeze them and use them with bacon and egg or with an egg like you have
Thank you Francis💕💕
Yum! Please be sure to let us know when you take them out of the freezer and reheat them, if they keep that slightly crunchy exterior.
Thanks Terri👍👍 I reheated one from frozen in the ninja, airfry 200 for 10 mins, it was hot and crunchy and flipping lovely. The only thing I would do differently next time is not fully cook the freezer bound ones (6 mins instead of 10 maybe) so on the reheat they don't go too dark brown👌
They do look yummy I’m going for adding cheese and making a croquettes type
Thank you Chris💕definitely will add cheese next time😋
I dint put egg in potatoes mix I simply brush the patti with egg then roll in breadcrumbs.
No sticky.
Add flaked fish too for fish cakes
🤩🤩🤩
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰👋😘
Yummy 😋😋 xx
Thanks Sharon!💕
