    I remember that feeling of complete sadness. It was the baby blues they just didn’t go away. It kicked me only the day after I had my first child. I felt so sad like I was grieving. I never had this with my girls but I have with my two boys and I’m now having another boy. I’m so scared but also aware and that’s why I’m here.

    i left my PPD untreated with my first child, and it has made bonding with him nearly impossible i STILL struggle to bond with him and he is 3.5.
    now with my 2nd child i immediately sought treatment as soon as i noticed the symptoms!

    I suffered from PPD when I had my son. I was already being watched by my mom as she was worried I might be suffering from it and when I went to the first drs appointment after he was born they told me that I had a high likelihood of having PPD based on being diagnosed with severe depression 3 years prior after attempting suicide. And they told me it usually hits its peak around 3 months after giving birth. Well it was right on schedule! I was all of a sudden just sobbing for hours after I would wake up for no reason at all and the scariest thing was I was literally having these flashes where I could see myself smashing my son's head off the coffee table. It was like several times a day I would just have that happen and it was terrifying. It never happened thank goodness. I didn't tell anyone except one friend about the flashes for years and her response was that is something you don't want to tell anybody. Her concern was child welfare might get involved and put him in care as she had lost custody of her 2 when they were little because her family reported her using drugs. I didn't tell anyone else until years later about that but I did mention to my Dr that I felt like I should definitely go back on my antidepressants because of the crying and some other symptoms. I'm just glad that they mentioned I was high risk at that first appointment so I at least had it in my head that something was definitely not right. And it's so weird that I was even having flashes of hurting him. He was such a good baby. He wasn't colicky or anything. He was a calm and happy little guy and I still was over the moon over him and would just hold him all the time even for hours after he would fall asleep sometimes because I just felt like he was a miracle or something because I didn't think I could even have kids. Hormones are terrifying.

      How are you doing now?

    • @jenniferspence7092
      @jenniferspence7092 Год назад +2

      @@latoyamitchell8934 oh there have been struggles. I'm a single mom of a 10½ year old with severe adhd and mild autism as well as learning challenges and I myself was diagnosed with severe adhd in October 2020. So there are challenges there. But my PPD went away right away after going back on my antidepressants when he was just a few months old. Thank goodness. And before I went through that I'm sure I thought PPD was bogus anytime I heard it being discussed in the news. Just the same as premenstrual cramps. I never experienced them as a teen and there was a friend of mine that lived with my family for a few years that regularly missed school because of premenstrual cramps. I totally thought she was faking until I was 21 I think. I was always extremely irregular with my periods, like I would have one every 6 months or even just once a year. And while living with my boyfriend I went on the pill and I got it every month really nasty and heavy flow and then I experienced premenstrual cramps for the first time and began to eat my words about my friend faking it. Man those were the worst. So I can totally understand that there are people out there that don't believe PPD is a real thing and whenever possible I speak up and let them know I was the same way until I went through what I went through and now I know better. I didn't even tell my mom about those flashes. I told one friend and she was shocked and said that is something you don't want to tell anybody ever, because she didn't want me to end up having my son apprehended. And I didn't tell anyone else for years. Even when I had that appointment with the health nurse when I explained that I realized I needed to get back on my antidepressants. I just basically said I was crying uncontrollably all the time. Which I was, but it wasn't all the time. Probably a few mornings a week I would cry for several hours but the flashes of me smashing his head weren't even happening when he was crying or if I felt like I was having a tough time. Which I think scared me even more. I would be having a great time maybe have a friend over and my son being as adorable as ever and seeing that randomly flash through my mind.

    Not getting enough rest is part of the issue I am guessing. I think if you're feeling overwhelmed get help and get a break. A husband should not shame his wife for getting help. It's okay. We all need help sometimes.

      My oldest only slept for 45 minutes at a time for 9 months and cried constantly, I also had a very difficult labor and birth and struggled with a vaginal injury for close to two years.. even into my second pregnancy. I do think it can last for years :(
