I was looking at guitars at Sol Betnun Music here in Los Angeles back in the early 70's when I spotted Mr Kessel in the store, I had a chance to meet him. I asked which guitar on the wall is a good versatile guitar to keep, he recommended a Gibson ES 335 hanging on the wall. I'm 74 now and still play and own that ES 335 plus 2 more Heritage H 535's. Barney was very pleasant and just a regular guy. I have a lot of memories of my musical past. Los Angeles Blues musician
The comment wrongly credits for "Manha de Carnaval" Bonfa/Jobim. It's Luiz Bonfa/Antonio Maria BTW, I attended in 69 a concert in Paris, where he played this. He played alongside Kenny Burrell and Grant Green...
this is before the dispute with Gibson; we still see the name on the headstock. He did want to get paid for endorsement; Gibson said no, Kessel then masked the name.
This piece oughta keep just about all of the rest of us who "play" guitar very humble!
It's an astounding level of musicianship..such a pleasure to watch and listen.
One off the best guitarist all time! Genius!
He was such a fine guitarist. So melodic and his time was just impeccable!
His timing also top.
Beautiful. Melody is always king.
What a great guitar 🎸 st
One of the best jazz guitar videos ever.

My favorite jazz guitar player. Everytime I saw him preforming, il was unforgettable
Look at Jan Akkerman. Clear, Barney forever.
@@sommelierramon Jan who ? Wim Overgaauw, maybe. Harry Sacksioni, perhaps. No, just Barn is the one.
Beautiful. Acceeeeeeeeeeeeptableeeeeeeeeeee! *Lemongrab voice*
What if I just believe in myself and try real hard?
First guitarist I knew by name playing with Van Alexander. I was about 9 years ago.

I think this man is a genius, i was so late hearing him
Si beau!

I saw him in the late 70s. Just amazing.
Benson said Barney loved to tell you he was the greatest player in the world, but he always said it with his guitar.
Its clear yeah ? Ever Barney. forever. no doubt.
Absolute the top notch, ever. forever.
toca muito muito bom
the best!
One of George Bensons favourite Guitar Players
Lo voglio come maestro
The melodic chord part is insane. :-)

I wasn't aware of that. Interesting...
Spettacolare con la sua Gibson
Afinidade Álbum - Bossa Nova - Composer Brazilian Fabio Valente
Enjoy New Generation Bossa Nova too Thanks.
great!
Grande chitarrista
😀😎✌🙏👊
The news anchor on drums surprised me.
Way to cover up the fingerboard with text
Fretboard geometry above all the rest
weird drums? or is it just me? xDD
He’s playing a samba with a swing feel in the ride cymbal. Doesn’t sound right
Yeah something not fully tight on drums... guy seems to be getting paycheck
Sheeeesh
The description says "Samba de Orfeu" but this is Black Orpheus. had my hopes up there for a moment. Still a great listen though
This song gets 3 names...
Theme from black orpheus
A day on the life of a fool
And the original "mahna de carnival"
black orpheus is the movie's name, here Kessel plays Manha de carnival then Samba de Orfeu, the song played at the end of the movie by the kids
É samba de orfeu mesmo
Very well played, syncopated, out of discussion, but also no Bossa Nova (rather Bebop).
