That is how you back up your friend while they are soloing, kids. And that is how the solo and the rhythm guitar can compliment each other. VERY valuable lessons right there! Thank you for the music, you gentlemen. Rest in peace.GOD bless
I attended a few of Barney's seminars and I remember someone asking him why he had obliterated the name 'Gibson' from the headstock of his guitar and he said that Gibson had declined to pay him for endorsing their guitars.
I've heard Barney live with trio live. First time when I was 17 heard ond and had'nt yet played guitar that long. Unbeliveble how he made all those chords and voicings.😀🎼🎵❤
BeatBay Yes, 4 beats to the bar, Freddie Green style if you prefer... I'm a big Kessel fan but I feel that Herb leaves Barney more room for soloing. Listen how well Herb keeps his comping tight in the background. He's not pushing it too much and keeps the volume lower. They're both wonderful by all means. It's just a subjective, personal preference.
Barney Kessel played a modified Gibson ES-350 (CC pickup instead of the usual p90, dotted ebony fingerboard instead of the original rosewood-trapezoid). Herb Ellis played a signature guitar by Aria - Aria pro II PE-175HE.
good morning sirs, this is the best guitar-version about lady begood, i ever heard.someone can listen to my piano version from this song: hifi stereo.thanks for uploading an all the best for your future. j.
There was no one like Barney Kessel. No one, no one. My gosh, what a player.
I well remember the Great Guitars with Kessel, Ellis and Byrd. And I can't make one of them the best - they are all great.
Some cats dont get it. He swings his ass off
love that quote in Herb’s solo!

He repudiated the model they made with his name on it. I've played several and none was very good. He was right!
LOL...He told me that, too!
I love the "Eleanor Rigby" quote at 3:27.
Burning. Herb Ellis is great, but Barney Kessel just does it for me. Soulful and fiery.
billyzoom1 Herbs picking is awesome though!
It's a treasure no matter what.
it don't get much better , pure genius .
Two jazz legends. No longer with us.
Herb's picking is so clear. great playing.

When the Gods walked the Earth...
Saw Herb and Barney at Sweet Basil's in NYC......great players!
I usually don't really like instrumental music, but this is so fucking good i absolutely love it!!!!
FANTASTICOS!!!
Texas & Oklahoma represented here, both played with Oscar Peterson!
They toured together back in the late 70's. Saw them in Chicago and from then on started (trying) to play jazz like this.
Amazing, 2 of my favorites.
Herb and Barnie (RIP) be burnin'.
Gorgeous!!!
Thanks for this video.
Magic!
He's playing Aria here...never heard him play this fast...
Herb Ellis model
The more I listen to Barney man he is good I am kinda lost for words only players to do that to me are Grant and Joe
THIS is Jazz !!
Happiness :)
very good!
Bravo!
In some of their performances I feel Kessel is the stronger player, but here seems like they are evenly matched.
Trust that feeling...
Redeu!!Quin parell de gegants!!Quina elegància!!!
My mind is currently broken due to whatever happened at 2:46.
😉👍
anyone can tell the progression barney is playing?
Im trying to figure it out also
Maybe if I could get a red silk shirt I could play like Barney...nah!
Looks like Herb had to much coffee, or something... He didn's used to play fast lines like here. Gem :D
someday ill cover dis by my own...counterattack mode
lol :)
Quite rare "4 to the bar" comping by Barney - very tight! Still I think Herb handles this type of accompaniment much better.

What guitars are they playing???

Terrific treatment1 But why did Barney cover up the GIBSON name on his headstock?
Anyone know the chord progression?
我覺得還是古人比較厲害!彈那麼多彈那麼快但都感覺是有意義的沒有任何贅述
